James Bond in Egypt + a little ska + °C-ute... XD
-
Oooh, I really like it  Sounds like there could be a great PV with this one.
-
eww... again a song by °C-ute which I will skip :smhid. °C-utes songs have gotten worse after Edo no temari uta part II. Edo was the last song which I really enjoyed :( ...
-
Hmmm. I'm undecided right now. It sounds fun from this, though.
-
I usually don't listen to previews/rips because you tend to get a false impression of what the song is really like. I usually wait until the PV comes out, since the dance is usually an integral part of the performance, especially for C-ute.
If you're disliking the song from this, I'd advise waiting for higher quality previews, or even what the dance/PV looks like, since it'd be a shame to miss a good song because you haven't heard/seen the full effect. This preview has absolutely no bass, since it's probably fan-recorded from a live, so keep that in mind listening to this. Some pop songs are popular mainly because of their bass and their beat, which you don't get a full appreciation of when you listen to this.
That said, I like what I'm hearing so far, but I'm pretty much predisposed to like almost anything they put out.

How can you decide that you dislike this, even if you before hear a better Quality rip, don't get it, but whatever i Love this Song so much!
-
I like the sound. Hope this will be a good pv, not only dancing on a stage. I miss pv's with story.
-
I love the song... *_*
I like the melody and the singing...really cool *_*
and I hope the PV will really good
-
Kiragume Princess + °C-ute... :shocked
i wonder if they will use very western hats for the PV
-
I really like the preview D:
Interested to see what the choreography's gonna look like - it gets pretty fast there at a couple of places, so :p

Maimi's hair is styled kinda weirdly but all in all FIERCE covers
And I'm glad that they're not obvious at all about the pecking order in C-ute *sarcasm*
-
The covers are frigging HOT!
Finally, Airi in center again! :inlove:
-
wow, only 5 people left..
Excellent covers! Love the outfits.
I'm resisting the preview... but the description of James Bond in Egypt sounds interesting
-
... *speechless*
-
The outfits make them look like OtomeGumi 2.0
-
In the small prewiews of the cover I was like, what's koharu doing in cute!? and maimi looks like megumi in a way... ... really wierd.
-
-
I LOVE all the girls in this SO much. <3 But to me, Airi is perfection. Ohhhhhh god.
-
I can't wait for this i want to see what 5 nin C-ute can do with the ball here it's time for a rebound and this is it.I can't wait.
-
if anyone gets the podcast of Maimi's radio show, they would have heard shock on the last 2 shows
-
WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT. WHAT. WHAAAT. WUT.
Chisato's Tanpopo hat. Maimi's popped collar. Mai being ebil-bitch Dorothy from emo-Oz. NakaSaki's "sultry Iida" face. Sayummy--I mean Airi. These covers are awesome in the same way some Youtube poops are awesome.
Chisato's got another fail!tie, and Maimi's entirely too girly for their trying to make her the next Mr. Moonlight. Even Jo Kwon couldn't be that fabulous in that getup. NakaSaki's emulating a different H!P girl in every cover. (including SAiriyummy on the first one XD) Mai is wearing a tux shirt under that dress? D: WTF?
And Airi, oh Airi. I knew you had it in you, but it's still hilarious. She looks EXACTLY like that one Sayumi picture from the ONSA set.
Come on Maimi, are you really going to let her get past you in the sexy department? I think that haircut destroyed her ability to display multiple emotions.
...The winnar of this set is either Airi or NakaSaki. :twothumbs Fuck, I feel so old.
-
I dunno, I kind of like Maimi's outfit. It's not as flashy as Airi's, but it's got a kind of classy look with the vest and coat.
C-ute - SHOCK! Preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1okdbUfVqM#ws)
Is it just me, or is the group becoming more and more like early 1999 Morning Musume, except Airi is Nacchi?
It was pretty unbalanced before, but if going by the CM is any indication, it's just ridiculous now.
May as well call it "Suzuki Airi feat. C-ute".
Dance moves look a bit repetitive, but since most of the CM is closeup shots I'll have to withhold judgement until I get more context.

-
yeah, this one is all Airi... pretty much like their first major single but with way less Maimi or any other girl
-
I'm looking forward to this PV.
Maybe I'm biased because Airi has been my favourite Japanese idol since Tsunku discovered her, but I think she deserves the spotlight. She is where she's supposed to be, the frontrunner of the group, the heart of it, the idol.
But this is getting a bit ridiculous. There are four other girls who all have amazing (well, mostly) voices. I'm really getting bummed out that they aren't given a chance to shine, too. Maimi shouldn't be pushed back so far, I love Saki's voice, and Chisato has the best in my opinion 8|
I love my Airi, but I love the other girls two. Arrrrgggg. I want a group, not Airi with backup singers/dancers. XD Sigh.

I... like it? Everyone seems to hate it though (I have no taste though, so my opinion is irrelevant). I like Airi, and as long as this solo single is a one-off, I'm not too bothered by the lack of other members.
-
I love it! <3
-
I totally agree with Nevi... edit : and Slack (sorry, I didn't read your post)
I like Airi a lot too but this PV is so wrong... :(
-
Pros:
The dance isn't as repetitive as the CM made me think.
Cons:
I thought this song was supposed to be by a girl group.
I don't remember songs dominated by one girl this much since Akai Freesia, Kousui, or Furusato. Heck, the only one of those that beats this is Furusato, where you had Abe Natsumi + 6 backup singers.
Like I said, this song is from Suzuki Airi feat. C-ute.
Are they punishing Maimi for cutting her hair or something?
Still, nice song.
-
^maybe it will change their fortunes
I think it was just meant for balance and differ from their past songs
I like it though
-
Seriously. Good song, but only airi? What a waste.
-
i don't like that PV, is bad... the song in the other hand is good, could be better with some other vocals and not only Airi... please!!!
-
This could have so easily been my favourite song and PV, over both Tokaikko and Namida, and I was prepared to let it be even with Osuzu being the sole singer.
But she's also the sole person in the PV as well. I'm sorry, but as I said on my twitter, this needed a whole lot less Osuzu and a whole lot more everyone else. I feel like this was punishment for Maimi cutting her hair too. If I wanted a solo Osuzu PV, then I'd watch a solo Osuzu PV. When I'm watching a C-ute PV, I kinda expect to at least see other people, especially with only FIVE girls now it's not exactly hard to do...
That said, I do like the song, and I will come to like the PV once I get over the annoyance at everyone being shoved into the back and told to dance and do little else.
Also this needs saying, but Chisa looks amazing. Love that hat.
-
Man should've known that UFA would always do exactly the opposite of what you expect!!!
I thought losing two members would result in more evenly spread lines & pimpage, but instead they rely on Airi even more than before. Which I thought was impossible. LOL!! WTF
-
I feel like this was punishment for Maimi cutting her hair too.
Now that you mention it, makes sense... well i just want to understand why is all about Airi in this one... yeah, whatever.
-
It was inevitable that there was gonna be a C-ute song sung entirely by Airi but I think what shocked everyone was that it was released after one of their member's graduation. A 5-member group is indeed more manageable and the lines could be more evenly distributed but I guess the composer/arranger didn't see it that way. And Airi gets the hate.
I like C-ute. Each of them have talents yet some of them are underutilized but personally, I prefer Airi to sing this song by herself than force the other girls to sing lines that could potentially butcher the song. If that happened, we'd prolly be reading comments like "Oh damn, they shouldn't have let (insert member name here) sing! She killed the song OMG!", or "They should have given that line to Airi instead." And that's what they did. They gave Airi all the lines and she made the song happen. She got most of the praise and at the same time she got most of the hate and spared her groupmates from any. I don't think the other members mind her singing it alone because they know that Airi will always be their ace and they support her all the way. She's been carrying most of the load since day 1 and more after Megu left. I can't even imagine the pressure she has on her back right now.
Having 2-3 members at most singing the majority of the lines has always been C-ute's weakness and now it's been totally exposed that their roster has decreased again. If the management thinks Airi and Maimi need help that their other members couldn't provide, they could always put some new members in, rather than letting them have all the lines. But that's going to be another story.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just tired of reading the Airi and/or Tsunku hate from other sites.
-
I can't say I've seen too much hate on here, but that's cause we're mellow. That's why I like it here best. :)
Still, I think you might just be underestimating the vocal abilities of say, Chisato, when you say that the others would have butchered the song.
What I've noticed with singles is that they tend to use the B-side to balance or offset the A-side. For all I know, the B-side for this has Airi not singing at all or something. That wouldn't be much consolation for the other girls though.
I was listening to Cutie Queen the other day and I started wondering how the different the group dynamics and line distributions would have been if Megumi had stayed on. Would it have been more like what we have in Berryz where there's three and a half front girls? (Yurina counts as a half of a front girl)
In general, we've gotten used to roughly 2 and 2/3 front girls in C-ute (1/3 each for Nakky and Mai), so it's not surprising that this is causing such an uproar. It's kind of like they graduated almost 2 whole members without any forewarning.
For all I know, Tsunku wrote this one specifically for Airi. Problem is, that kind of song is usually on an album, not a single. But since when has Tsunku NOT been batshit-insane? I love the guy for it, but if this is going to become a pattern with C-ute, I just feel sad for the other members.
-
XD Yeah, I feel like we don't have much -hate- here. I find that most people here love Airi. We just love everyone else, too. And every time I've watched SHOCK! (or, let's face it, anything C-ute) I've always thought of how Airi has so much work to do. Between this and Buono!, just think of the pressure that she must have. D:
And now that wordsworth pointed it out... I can't really think of any of the other girls' voices fitting this song all too well -- maybe Chisato's. Perhaps Saki's if she controlled it well enough. But wordsworth was right, this isn't exactly a song suited for the others.
>: I just miss the group dynamic, s'all.
-
I think Chisato has the best voice in the current lineup. If I could choose anyone from C-ute to sing SHOCK! all by herself, I would have picked her. Though I prefer her in more songs like Akai Sweetpea :P
-
What I've noticed with singles is that they tend to use the B-side to balance or offset the A-side. For all I know, the B-side for this has Airi not singing at all or something.
The b-side rip has been out a while and it's pretty much just entirely Osuzu/Maimi as well. Well at least Maimi gets to sing in that one, still sucks to be anyone else though... they could have at least made up for it with some generous PV time, it's really not that hard with only five of them now.
-
I agree Airi deserves getting a lot of lines, but it doesn't make me miss Maimi being in the spotlight any less.
Overall, I think the song itself is just average though. Nothing actually memorable.
-
Tsunku's comment (http://www.tsunku.net/pw_Music.php?@PS@=none&@DB_ID@=469) where he explains how he designed the song so it sounds good in headphones ( :wth ) and how it's pretty much all Osuzu because she could convey the message the easiest ( :wth ).
I dunno. After repeated, repeated viewings of the PV I'm just sick of only hearing one voice and dying to hear a little Maimi or Chisa thrown into the mix. Not that Osuzu is terrible, but variety is the spice of life :pimp:
-
^ basically you are right about only listening to one voice is not the greatest thing especially since Maimi has been leading with Maimi and Airi. Maybe next single we won't have Airi and C-ute
-
I don't hate Airi either, at all. And I'm no longer much of a C-ute fan, but it's such a shame to see the vocal talents of someone like Chisato, for example, 'going to waste' seemingly more and more. I'm hoping they can at least switch it up once in a while with member emphasis when it comes to singing. Like Airi mostly sings this time, Chisato next, etc. I think that would be kind of nice and unique, and everyone's happy.

C-ute's new year message (http://tv.oricon.co.jp/pv06.php?PV_URL=2119) from Oricon.
-
The song is good, but I hate that only Airi gets to sing. The other members are only used as back up. :banghead:

looks like Osuzu-only was what they needed to break some nice oricon chart
-
#1 is nice but only 8,410 copies? D:
-
see. tsunku knew what he was doing.
osuzu for teh WIN, apparently.
-
I doubt people went "Oh wow, it's only one girl singing, I'LL BUY." O.o
However, congrats on the number one spot, even if it's only for one day. It really is a good song, monopoly aside. I hope weekly sales will at least do better than the last single.

Daily chart

The weekly chart is a bit complicated. Due to the New Year's holiday Oricon combines the last and first weeks of the year into one two-week chart. SHOCK! was released in the second of those two weeks. So it may not chart high at all in the weekly chart.

They're giving away signed posters at the concert today if you buy the single, so sales should get a bit of a boost from that.
-
i would buy many copies of this if i had a chance. XD WALLPAPER my room with SHOCK!
but buuu. that's a messy way to do sales...
-
Most H!P groups have been doing signed posters at events/concerts for years now. It doesn't really seem to make that much of an impact because it's the same few people buying them all anyway :P
-
Waa? XD I meant messy as in how they charted it! If that's what your referencing to. :P I figured H!P groups hand out signed posters like CANDYYY.
-
Looks like they placed fifth in the weekly rankings.
Anyone have the actual number of singles sold? If I'm reading right it was only 18665. Damn... that's ridiculously their worst yet...
-
:( :( :(
Only plus side is, maybe this makes the management realize that just Airi isn't enough D:
-
This single was released in what I call a difficult week. There were only two other releases on the same date for a reason. It is just after the busy end-of-year period with many music shows. At the time when everyone is looking back at the hits of the past year it is difficult to introduce a new song to the general public. I think management knew this and thought it was a good time for a little experiment with the Airi solo. The traditional H!P concerts at the start of the new year are a great time to target this single at the main group of potential buyers. The signed poster lottery certainly helped to lure them in. But the general CD buying audience is not reached as much. As a result this single is one "just for the fans".
Just my 2 cents.
-
^ Now that you said that, I agree.
-
I think Suzuki Airi should be made a solo singer. The current situation is not fair to her or the other girls. She is the main talent in both C-ute and Buono! She should just go solo. That would give the C-ute members the chance to shine and show what they can do without Airi.
-
thanks for the info
