Quote from: Wikipedia - Plot
BioWare have described Dragon Age as being a "dark heroic fantasy" story that will be told on an epic scale with mature themes.[29]

The player begins his or her journey from in one of the six origin stories which serve as an introductory point for the players and present the world from their personal point of view. The origin story chosen (the choices being Human Noble, Human/Elf Mage (dwarves having an immunity to magic), Dalish Elf, City Elf, Dwarf Commoner and Dwarf Noble) determines who the character is and how NPCs react to the player. Elves, for example, are often viewed as second class citizens.[29] The developers have cited 'realistic' fantasy fiction such as George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and fantasy paintings by artists such as Frank Frazetta as inspiration for the game.[30]

I finished it in about 50 hours. It's a good game. Completely unbalanced tho, not just the difficulty of enemies, but between classes as well, keep that in mind when you play and make sure you save OFTEN.

I Heard a rumor they patched it to make it easier too? Shouldn't they start with addressing the unbalance issues?

A pro tip: Make sure you have 2 mages in your group. Mages are heavily overbalanced compared to the other classes. 1-2 tanks, or a tank and a rogue with 2 mages should be pretty perfect.

You can on Xbox, ionno about PC but I'm sure there is one.

The patch didn't address the issues with the whole Mage Age thing. Basically just made the game easier:

Code: [Select]
# - made Easy difficulty easier
# - slightly increased attack, defense, and damage scores for all party members at Normal difficulty

However, from what I know the patch certainly takes it in the right direction. Someone apply and report if they experience any difference? Moog?

i played in the normal difficulty. but yea i saw some improvements, my guys wont get assfucked easily when facing against a  decent sized mob (3 melees 3 archers) now its just one person just dies in my own party instead of all 4

oh yea i dont think they gonna fix the mage stuff. i read it somewhere the developer said they are satisfied with the mage's thing. i guess they just gonna balance out the other classes

BioWare goes in-depth on the combat system of Dragon Age: Origins. Not only does it offer the breadth of control players need to tactically position and use their characters. Combat also works to help define the game as a visceral, dark and mature fantasy role-playing game.

Finished the game. Some notes:

Played the game on easy difficult level with patched game. Some battles were bit challenging even on easy, atleast for me. The final battle and the Denerim battles were too easy so maybe I should have raised the difficulty to normal.

The new D&D rules allow mage to wear armor and use swords and other weapons. Combine that to specialization class "Arcane Warrior" and you have a pretty damn good character (..I would think). In general the rules are so different compared to the old rules that were used in Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale that I wouldn't say DA is a succesor to the BG. It's similar to how Bioshock was a 'spiritual' succesor to System Shock. Different games all together but they share some small parts.

Can Dragon Age compare to Baldurs Gate? My opinion is no. I like the old rules better, there's clear differences between the character classes and the npc's were better.

All in all good game but I think Bioware could have done better.

Nice way too put it Nazu. I think the patch for PC might be good, coz the final boss on Normal on the Xbox wasnt even possible. I had to do it on "Casual". However there's a trick.. Read below.

End battle spoiler:
[bgcolor=black]Ionno if this always works, but using the huge mounted crossbow things, you can time the shots and make the Archdeamon freeze, stopping it from shooting those dark thingies at you. Until it completely is out of life. Just make sure you kill all the minions or carry around a shitload of potions. My entire squad was dead so I had to do this on my own, but once you got the hang of it it was as easy as stealing candy from a kid in a diaper.[/color]

But somehow I stopped playing it  :?

You know when you feel like you should finish at least one game before jumping into the next ? I'm near the end for Persona 4, so maybe next month I'll start DA.

Started playing the game today (for real) and it's great !
I'm still in the beginning. I started out as a mage, and just got out of the mage tower to the first city of the game. Now my adventure is really starting.

For anyone who has beaten the game, do you think it can be done in one week ?
Not that I like to rush through my games, especially a good one like this one, but I'll be traveling Saturday and when I arrive it'll be time for my Final Fantasy XIII.

Depends if you do all the side quests and the like. It's 40-50 hours give or take, so doing it in a week would be pretty hardcore.

On my 3rd day with the game I've already played 14+ hours. The good thing is that I'm not rushing it. This game is just so good that it sucks you in and I don't really want to stop playing.

I was pissed last night because I had to sleep (because my body couldn't hold up) but my mind wanted to play more.
And the characters are awesome, Morrigan is so cool, and even Alister with his not so funny jokes  :D

I haven't even touched the surface on this game and my recommendation is: If you can get your hand on it, do it !

On one hand, the story is vaguely interesting, and I'd like to keep progressing with that.

On the other hand, the combat is so unbelievably clunky and frustrating, I can't be fucked to see what happens next. After KOTOR and Mass Effect, this shit just isn't acceptable.

She vanished into the shadows, and while rumors claimed she crossed over the mountains into Orlais no trace of her path could be found. She was never heard from again... until now. Nearly a year has passed since the Archdemon's death, and word has reached the Wardens that Morrigan has returned to Ferelden. She has been sighted in the southern wilderness where she was first encountered. Is it truly her? If it is, then why is she here and what secret does she carry with her? The Warden heads into the forest to find out and tie up this last loose end once and for all.

Key Features:

How about that Dragon Age 2? Played about two hours now, as a warrior. I'm interested to see how the story can play out, but the gameplay itself is still clunky like in the first, and only Varric is interesting as a character at all,  so far. The dialogue has been pretty mundane thus far, when compared to Mass Effect. The talent trees and abilities I've seen are nice though, and there's plenty of gore to go around.

7 hours in, still not really feeling it. I want to see where the story goes, so that's why I'm still playing at any rate.

Too many of the environments are re-used. There's a severe lack of detail in the entire world, Kirkwall and otherwise. For supposedly taking in a flood of refugees, Kirkwall is pretty empty too, and the constant changing of zones required is just tiresome. I'm not sure why they make me bother with equipment even, it's all so boring to manage. The dialogue is shameful compared to what was in the first game, let alone ME2. And if I see another magically exploding dude..

Bioware, son, we need to have a talk. I want to believe it will get better after I pass the first big milestone, but I'm starting to think otherwise :catglare:

Still playing a bit.  Still working on wrapping up busy work quests before passing the big milestone. Trying to be super righteous and all, like I always go for in Bioware games. There's only two characters in my crew that are interesting, the others are just.. there.

I'm starting to wonder why they didn't model the entire city of Kirkwall out. Just don't make sense. The combination of small, lifeless areas, and frequent zoning is really dragging the game down itself.

Started playing Dragon Age 2 yesterday. I'm a warrior also. I don't want to say its better or worse than Dragon Age Origins, the game feels pretty different to me. Gameplay seem faster and more action-oriented than the first one, which I like. Thought the first one was a little bit slow.

That said, I don't completely agree with the area of play. Running around one city seems a bit dull compared to a whole kingdom with many unique areas like in the first game. I don't know, maybe things will open up when I progress further. Equipment is disappointing. Not fun when you can't change your party's gear. Basically all the armor is restricted to me -_-'

Romantic opportunities don't seem very interesting yet.

I just finished the game. Gotta say, I enjoyed Origins much more.

I was hoping for it to get more interesting as I progressed, but Dragon Age 2 was just.. flat. Not nearly as much depth as Origins and pretty much just less of everything. Overall disappoint, son.
