The DVD of the two versions will feature either Team PB or Team YJ, so I guess we get two different PVs as well?!
imo, that whole team PB vs team YJ isn't that alive... I mean, I like that they're featured a lot in the magazines, but other than that it doesn't feel like any sort of competition. I still have no idea who is in what team. I guess they created this 'competition' so that everybody will buy each evasion of the single :nervous
In addition, CDJapan mentions 'graduation song' ...which means ballad and low sales? :nervous :panic:

I swear I saw Erena in one of the "filtered" pictures of the PV recording.
Rumors are rumors, just the ones that talked about the RIVER story (saving private Maeda).
I mean, it wouldn't surprise Sayaka being out of senbas, but Kasai, Erena and Miichan out? The guy who wrote that is nuts.

She was the only one from river not to be in river for kouhaku and various other shows she's not been on and such. Her fans have been questioning it on her blog and she says everything is fine. fine.

I know she wasn't in the RIVER perf. But the reasons are still rumors. Aren't they? Plus, the single was recorded long ago, much before the alleged Erena issue. Would the dare to freeze the activities of one of the popular members? I don't think that would be smart from the management, really.

Ok, I'll try to explain how this song works.
The senbatsu members are less than in the previous single (11 if I'm not wrong), that means 11 girls are featured, they will be always in the front row and will probably go to TV shows. They are "the visible face" of the single. It's as BINGO or Sakura 2008. Lots of girls were there, but just a few got close ups, solo shots, solo lines and so on. That is senbatsu in THIS case.
The non-senbatsu members will be at back, will probably get random shots in the PV and won't really be song flagships.
If you see the AKBINGO video, the senbatsu girls have different clothes and the camera focus on them. The other ones are... chopped liver. :P

Oh yeah. I do remember reading somewhere that it was going to be like SnH 08 and BINGO, in that it actually had all the girls in it.
I must have had a brain fart when I was reading this thread. I blame it on the fact that I have to leave for work in a few minutes, and I really don't want to go in today. :D

^according to people on 2ch who saw the video at the theater there aren't any new additions to senbatsu, just the taking out of miichan, sayaka, erena and kasai plus sasshi wasn't ill and so would have no reason not to be in the photo on the previous page.

I've listened to the song more and more and... I still think it's a bit lame :P But it is not a bad song! Perhaps I find it lame because it's not AKBesque. I'll try to think of it as a non AKB song. :cow:

It's beautiful. I like it. Well, even though I don't like it, I'll buy two versions of this single since my favourite girls are on both teams which of course I like both songs. :heart:
Anyway, I think Sakura no Hanabiratachi is better than this Shiori. :nervous
Also, I still can't imagine them singing this song in their concerts. Maybe it's because ,like Sayange said, I feel that it's not an AKB song.

Okay, I just listened to the song for the first time. All I can say is, what in the world was that? :?
But... it's not bad. In fact, I actually like it a LOT... but seriously, where did that come from? :lol: Anyway, it's a really beautiful song and the departure from the AKB48 normal sound is refreshing and we have the PB/YJ songs anyway. I'll be buying this. :thumbup Although the covers are pretty bland. I'm not sure which I'll buy. Depends on how the wallet feels next month. If I have to pick one, I'll likely get the B type.

That PV was..different.
It sort of played out like one of those tourism ads you see on TV. I like the filtered look of the PV, especially compared to some of the other PVs that were more vivid and bright. And I think it suited the song pretty well. Needless to say all of them looked great. Although I must admit the wings sort of creeped me out a bit, for some reason..
And Yuka got a cameo! So it's a win PV right there. Oh but, what were all those LBS48 and ASKS48 labels? Is it just locations (ie ASKS = Asakusa)?

I agree that those are locations. ASKS definitely looked like Asakusa as did SBY looking like Shibuya. Lol, I searched around looking for the districts of Tokyo but couldn't find anything for LBS. LBS is when they are on the bus (I guess).
Anyway, I liked the PV a lot as well. This was made really well. Started getting a little teary myself :P Damn the girls were looking so pretty! :wub:

Pay more attention to Yuko! I remember her being cute for a split second and then she might've been doing something silly later on, some sort of dance. I also remember a lot of Mikapon and Kitarie.

this is completely different from their past singles. i thought it would have a great tune but.. all i hear is nothing but sweet voices. sounds like a choir group. its quite soothing for a good melody.. and it makes me want to go to sleep.

AKB's ballads have a past tendency to not sell as good as the regular pop songs, but I'll do my part to make sure this one does good, and I really hope that it does sell well. Naturally compared to RIVER it will be much lower. After all, RIVER had a ton of events and 2010 best 100 voting tickets going for it.
Finally caught up on AKBINGO, I saw the PV last night and I really like it, too. Much like the song, I like how it's just very different from anything we've seen before from AKB, and in a good way. :thumbup

When I first heard SNS, I thought.."wtf, how is this ever gonna sell?" However, when SNS was played in Majisuka it got a bit of a creepy vibe which is cool. I quite like the song now.
In addition, I almost forgot it also comes with the Team PB or Team YJ song as well!
Finally, that Majisuka Rock 'n roll version is also very catchy!
So in the end, this single is looking great: we get a ballad, a typical pop song and a bit of a rock song :twothumbs Bring on the 200k sales! XD

I like SNS since the first time I heard it. It's kind of a heart-warming song which is my type. Yeah, it's even cooler when it's played in Majisuka.

My theory on the first day sales:
AKB48 was already majoring focused on after the #1 Weekly Oricon Chart for RIVER. And so it wouldn't surprise me if some random people on the street bought the new single just to see what AKB48 was about, especially with the news coverage from RIVER; the younger generation would probably notice the numerous cute girls (like most other idol groups); the older generation might draw back on the days of Onyanko Club and wonder what the hype is with Aki-P's latest idol group.
After that, there's the different genres that the single offers: the graduation song 'Sakura no Shiori', the song to rock out to 'Majisuka Rock n' Roll', the song with the "idol" feel 'Enkyori Poster' and the upbeat but sad song 'Choose Me!'; each catering to a large variety of potential buyers. Each song also has its own reason for drawing people in:
- March/April is graduation season in Japan, which is a rather big thing. It signifies that you're moving past the 'student' stage of your life and becoming a true 'adult'. For those people, 'Sakura no Shiori' may feel more important as a song.
- 'Majisuka Gakuen' is a drama in which idols become yankii-fied. How often do you see that?! Plus, the timeslot places it as a relatively optimal showing time, considering it's being shown overnight on Fridays. I mean, after a long week at work, what better way is there to kick back and relax than watching idols slur their words and beat each other up? Alright, I might be exaggerating there, but the rarity of the situation still stands. And as the opening theme song of such a rarity, we get 'Majisuka Rock n' Roll'. 'Cuz I'm sure that whoever has watched an episode of 'Majisuka Gakuen' can at least hum parts of 'Majisuka Rock n' Roll' (assuming he/she doesn't skip the theme songs).
- Finally, Weekly Playboy and Young Jump are popular magazines. And the contest between Team PB and Team YJ has been advertised for quite some time now. I mean, it's basically a joint event between Weekly Playboy and Young Jump if you think about it. And the winner gets to do gravure for both magazines! Even if you have no clue about the contest, you'd still notice the (usually) bikini-clad girls on the pages and that might grab someone's interest. And seeing those girls again singing and dancing a song written just for them may lead to buying that particular single (maybe?).
I'm not gonna go into the details with the handshake/2shot events ('cuz I have no idea about them to begin with..) but I think I've laid out a few reasons for the popularity of the new single. Of course, I doubt anyone could have predicted such an increase of sales between singles (clearing RIVER's total sales in the span of 24 hours? That's unbelievable) and I really don't care, to be honest. I'm just glad that the girls are doing well and hope they continue to do so.

I think jafe makes great points. Even with the usual idol music marketing ploys these sales are extremely impressive, and I think we have the variety of this single to thank for it. I'm thrilled it's done so well. What's good for AKB is hopefully good for us in the end. Also, for this unique of an A-side to have done well means that they might not be nervous to switch up the style of songs in the future, which I always appreciate in an idol group. The bubblegum pop definitely has its place, but it's nice to get something like Sakura no Shiori once in a while.
Hell, what other CD can you go from Sakura no Shiori straight into Majisuka Rock'n'Roll? :lol: I laugh almost every time it goes to that on my iPod. Such a crazy sudden change. :rockon:

Why is it that I'm never near a computer when AKB makes history? I'm back (for the xth amount of time...) and all the reports of their 250/300k selling single will make for a very nice weekend.
Adding to theories of their success I'm gonna take a big left on this so bear with me. Over the past week about 1/10th of the world's population celebrated Chinese New Year. As per tradition on this holiday, married couples would give out red packets containing money to unmarried relatives and friends. My theory is this, what to do with that extra money? Go get yourself a copy of AKB's new single! Looking at their success and the reports of online retailers having stock problems may point to some new fans overseas.
And it's the year of the tiger according to the Chinese Zodiac and wiki states that the motto for this particular year is "I win".
