Title: Man marries a videogame
Post by: THUNDERDUCK on November 25, 2009, 04:11:21 AM
I now pronounce you husband and what?!

In another sign that the world is about to collapse, multiple blogs are reporting that a fan of the Nintendo DS dating sim Love Plus (you know, the really creepy one) liked his virtual lady so much that he decided to marry her. For real.

Apparently, a Japanese gamer known as 'Sal9000' was officially wed to Nene Anegasaki, one of the game's three virtual girlfriends, in what must have been the weirdest ceremony in the history of ceremonies. We can only assume that Ms. Pac-Man was the maid of honor.

While the two aren't planning a honeymoon -- after all, one of them is a VIDEO GAME -- they did hold a small 'reception' in Japan for friends, family and the media, indicating that this is most likely little more than the looniest video game publicity stunt we've seen in some time. Check out this video recap by Boing Boing, complete with footage of the happy, er, couple:

First-ever marriage between man and videogame character in Japan: Nintendo DS "Love Plus" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsikPswAYUM&feature=player_embedded#normal)

I just hope they signed a pre-nup...

I read that on Yahoo! I was just stunned by it...

I feel sorry for the people who had to come to the "ceremony"

well, i guess, congrats to him for really actually marrying someone who he's really 'met'...

and not just hallucinating that he's married to someone who really exists but doesn't know he does...

Fortunately, a shred of hope for humanity was preserved when it was revealed that Sal9000 orchestrated the event as a piece of performance art—although it is unclear how serious he is actually taking the relationship. Apparently, he has sexed up his fair share of virtual girlfriends, so it is probably only a matter of time before technology progresses and he finds himself another woman with bigger and better...rendering.

nowadays they call art to whatever the fuck they want!!!! is ridiculous

Art's stupid. I could piss on someone's grave and call it art if I wanted, and there would be people out there who would agree.

I wonder how the guy must feel when he sees gameplay videos of his 'wife' kissing other game characters. I don't know how you can get your kicks off dating sims like that, but to each their own. I just hope he hasn't consumated the marriage at any point.

Still, at least he isn't as bad as this guy (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/26/magazine/26FOB-2DLove-t.html?_r=1&partner=rss)
