Title: Picture found, can so translate for me?
Post by: BX_LeMans on November 25, 2009, 11:44:20 PM
I hope, I'm in the right forum for this...

I found a few weeks ago a picture. Problem : I can't remember where :(
I'm searching for some days now with different keywords but no chance.

The pic is showing a girl with a tattoo. It's a japanese writing like buddhist sutras are written. black with red glowing outline from the shoulder down to the ellbow.
Maybe someone here knows that picture or finds it by chance.

I'm using opera, and i'm using ist good, so no chance to find it this way.

Its also possible that I saw it over the net in business school, where i'm teaching some hours the week.

I'm always so damn busy I can't remember where I saw that f** pic  :bleed eyes:

Can you describe what the girl physically looked like? Do you remember if she was a celebrity/someone famous or just some random model?

Big chance, that it was an anime pic  :huhuh

From my memory the girl was from half behind, tattoo on the left arm.

Maybe it would help if you posted up a crude "artists conception" of the picture.

Good luck on your search. :)

I'm not sure, but I think I found it. Sometimes my memory is so  :dunno:

Has the writing on her arm a meaning? And wich?

Nice, I think I seen that one on these forums before. Reminds me of oneechambara.

I need some translations. First the writing on her arm. But I think it means the title of the movie.

So I searched a bit in the web and found the following:
Are these kanji right? And there are two rows, two times the same with different writing oder the whole pic one sentence and in wich direction to read?

http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index6-010.html (http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index6-010.html)
http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index5-008.html (http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index5-008.html)
http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index7-001.html (http://www.webvider.com/kanji/index7-001.html)

Thanks in advance for the stress.

Looks like it's only three characters written in a brush style.  Can't make out the first one, but the middle one looks like "road", 道, and the last one looks like "princess", 姫.

Those three characters are written again horizontally under the "SAMURAI PRINCESS" title, around where her calf is.

its 外道姫 (Gedou Hime), roughly translates as ... Princess of darkness (?)

外道 【げどう】 (n) (1) (ant: 内道) {Buddh} non-Buddhist teachings; non-Buddhist; (2) heterodoxy; unorthodoxy; heresy; heretic; (3) (derog) demon; fiend; devil; brute; bad person; (4) type of fish one did not intend to catch

So I guess, "heretic princess" or "demon princess" would be it then?

OK, so bad idea for a tattoo :D

What with the three links?

Is this always the whole sentence in the link? in wich direction? from right to left?

Is their translation right?

Each page you have there is one saying.
Characters written like that are read top to bottom, right to left.
(English is left to right, top to bottom)

先手必勝 【せんてひっしょう】 (exp) victory goes to one who makes the first move; being quick to take action leads to victory

諸行無常 【しょぎょうむじょう】 (n) the impermanence of worldly things; All worldly things are transitory

"Bushi"
武士(P); 武夫 【ぶし(武士)(P); ぶふ(武夫); もののふ(武士)】 (n) warrior; samurai;
"nigon"
二言 【にごん】 (n) (1) double-dealing; double tongue; going back on what one has said; (2) repeating oneself

So yes, those are accurate translations.  Since the first two are 4-character idioms, they may also be the same in Chinese as well.

Wow, that was fast. I really need to learn japanese. But first I need more hours a day :D

My only question is now, first or second saying? I like both. I think the first one fits me better.

The style will be like the one on the movieposter.

Hmmm...I wonder if there is a way to get this saying in a brush-style like the letters on the poster.

The first one seems more proactive, more like a personal motto to be decisive.

The second one is more passive and philosophical, more like a reminder of something lost.

OK, more time now, contact with a good tattoo-artist is also made. Its the girlfriend of a friend from work.
Half of the shops employees are tattooed by her :D

Timeline for me now is, the tattoo has to be redy for the H&A concert in may. And since I go there by bike(very tight protector-shirt for riding) I think I make a date fo beginning or middle of april.
