Foreign Minister Taro Aso said Saturday that Taiwan's present high educational standards resulted from compulsory education implemented during Japan's colonization of the island and that he believes Japan "did a good thing." (http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20060205a8.html)

Yes. And raping and pillaging was also a good thing. Fuck these ignant ass government idiots.

Well he isn't totally wrong. Taiwan was supposed to be a model colony and japanese really improved railroads, education system and sanitation, alhough taiwanese were still categorized as second class citizens.
History is never so black & white.

What Aso says is true and Taiwan should stop thinking that their Taiwanese and start thinking that their Chinese, but I guess Taiwan is too Japanese washed during colonization. My friends were really pissed off when they wore kimonos during Chinese New Year, saying that it's "trendy." I'm like, it's CHINESE New Year for christ sake!
Taiwan lost so much face because of that comment and there's nothing they can say about it.

taiwan not part of china, so why we have to think we are chinese???
like it or not, the japanese colonization helped taiwan more than china ever did.

Japan's foreign minister is minimizing its role in World War II and its basically lying to the youth in their country that their actions were good.
