Actually, we can manage select national teams in Football Manager, and I know the World Cup is in that, so we could run a WC simulation in that I believe :twothumbs
-
Oh as I have been waiting. People make fun of me coz of how high I hold the WC, that's fine, they're just not seeing the whole picture to understand.
Here we go!

I've never actually been excited about the world cup before..... don't get me wrong, I love football/soccer
I want to see this!

As N.Ireland didn't qualify the team I'll follow is....anyone but England of course :P
I usually say Holland, but they follow a pattern as regular as England do. Impress in the group stages, do well to progress until they get found out in the quarter or semi-finals. Won't be following France either.
-
Spain or Brasil for me
also i doubt Argentina reaching the quarter-finals
-
Downloaded the ESPN World Cup App on the iPhone....so I can keep up with the action I don't get to see.
-
Ballack and Traesch already out.
Now Westermann is out too.
Can't wait to see who's next? :smhid

oh man did anyone watch the england and japan match? Japan had this game in thte bag with their goalie on fire. then the Japanese Ds scored twice on their own net. FAIL!!!! 2- 1 final!

Kawashima almost have a great game but Tulio and Nakazawa ruins it.
-
And yet despite England's victory coming at the expense of 2 own goals, the media is proclaiming this as a great victory.
-
^ winning without scoring must be epic XD
-
Feel bad for those guys, that's ridiculously unlucky. The first own goal was pretty stupid, though.
Hopefully the Japanese keeper can keep that form up for the actual WC :yep:

AMSTERDAM — Netherlands winger Arjen Robben limped off the field with a left hamstring injury Saturday in the team's 6-1 rout of Hungary in a friendly, casting his World Cup participation into doubt and delaying his departure for South Africa.

OMGASS OMGASS WORLD CUP INCOMING
Preparing for riots if South Africa loses to Mexico :cokecat:
-
haha possibly. I'm more interested to see if this Al-Qaeda threat on the England vs USA game ever goes ahead. Not that I want to see it happening, God forbid, but the newspapers have been building up that story quite a bit over here that you think that's the actual event everyone's interested in rather than a football match.
Was listening to the local radio this morning and this woman rang in to argue with the host about how everyone in the UK should support England (aye right). Anyway, she made her point, said she's prefer Spain to win because she thinks they play good football and she claimed to have followed Spanish football quite closely. She was asked for her favourite player and she replied, "Fernande Torres". When he asked why she said "Because he's the best looking."
-
^
Didn't read anything about that threat, that's kinda wild.
Ivory Coast boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has said star man Didier Drogba is in with a shout of playing in his nation's World Cup opener against Portugal on Tuesday.
 Sven, man..
So close to the start.. :jerk:
-
Didn't read anything about that threat, that's kinda wild.
Yeh man, in particular the news reports focus on a video where a masked man is going on about 'Death to the infidels' etc and as he's doing it he's got a ticket to the match itself, and covered it in blood. Crazy. Though I bet he will feel silly when he realises that was his only way of getting into the stadium lol
-
The only time anything ever happens is when there isn't a threat.
Anyway only a few more hours to go! LET'S GET THIS SHIT STARTED!
Who you got in the opening matches?
South Africa 1 - 3 Mexico
Uruguay 1 - 1 France
-
+3 Mexico
+2 Uruguay
GO AMERICA GO
-
South Africa 1 - 3 Mexico
Uruguay 1 - 1 France
kinda agree with that
GO FRANCE ! :panic:
-
South Africa 0 - 1 Mexico
Uruguay 1 - 1 France
So excited! I got my wallchart ready and everything! XD
-
South Africa 1-1 Mexico
Pretty dull game from both ends, I thought. Hoping France and Uruguay put on a show
-
-
Anybody here knows anything about the rules of football? About that Mexican disallowed goal, wasn't there a South African player on the GK's line? That means the Mexican player was behind the defense, aka, not offside. If the guy on the GK line is judged "not in play" then what happens if he blocks a shot? Can't have it both ways can you?
As for the game itself... I hope to see better finishing from now onwards please.
-
SHIT!! What a showing, I bet South Africa advances.
GO NORTH KOREA!!
-
This game had the same amount of action as a F1 race :nervous
and the horns are truly annoying, I'll still be hearing that sound when I lay in bed tonight.
-

A player is in an offside position if he is in his opponents' half of the field and is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the next to last opponent.

-
^ thanks. didn't help much at first but after alot of dissecting and analyzing came up with the answer; never assume that the GK is the last defender.
-
South Africa deserved to win... and i agreee that the horns thing are super hyper mega duper fucker annoying
-
holly fuck, south africa wasn't that bad  and Mexico wasn't that great (especially the goalkeeper)
1-1 is a good result for France :yep:
-
BLOW ME (http://www.spitorswallow.co.za/blowme.php)
-
I was fearing that the horns would make a reappearance because they were incredibly annoying during the Africa Cup of Nations. Like Stryfe says, it's like listening to it with a beehive around your head. It's not quite so bad in the France v Uruguay match, probably cause the fans are from overseas. I'd expect to hear them to be a lot more prevalent any time an African team is involved. What is it about those horns anyway? Does anyone know why they are they so prevalent in matches with African teams?
Wouldn't expect to hear much of it during England matches though, instead you have to listen to 'The Great Escape' or 'God Save The Queen' ad infinitum. Fucking does my head in.
-
The horns are just some traditional thing fans take to games in South Africa, apparently, I guess elsewhere in Africa too. :bleed eyes:
France, son, you should have played better.
>>>>>>>Henry appealing for handball

-
>>>>>>>Henry appealing for handball
Highlight of the match!
-
Uruguay played to draw and succeed... FUCK YEAH this group is getting very interesting
-
fuck -_-
we don't even know how to score ....
-
I blame the ball, the altitude, the referees, the injuries, those damn horns, the crime rate, the terrorists that shot up the togo team bus, fan stampedes and non-full capacity attendances for the poor opening matches... It's never the players' fault.
FIFA should just laugh off this blip and reboot the opening day. "Haha, gotcha! We assure you that the WC is a showcase of top quality football"
-
Well done to France, you certainly look like a great addition to the WC with your 6 man defence line up and taking off one of your more prolific goal scorers for another one with 10 mins to go and against 10 men. Though to be fair there were times were Uruguay did the same, it was both teams erring on the side of caution. Expect a lot of group games to end up as draws. Complaining about the handball decision was hilarious. What a legend that man is.
-
Korea Republic 2- Greece 0
-
Korea pwnd! They definitely deserved to win. Saw some cute fangirls in the audience too XD
-
Well I'm gonna make a prediction and say Greece aren't gonna qualify  Assuming Argentina win all their games, it makes the Nigeria v South Korea game quite interesting. If Argentina slip up along the way, it makes the group all the more interesting.
And I saw cute fangirls too!
-
south korea totally deserved it,
they were quite tired in the 10 last minutes tho
it's gonna be hard versus Nigeria...
ok, now let's see how Messi will play :panic:
-
Those fangirls :fap
Argentina - Nigeria at half now. Doesn't seem like Nigeria has much of a chance at this point :O2
-
Nigerian GK must have seen lots and lots of Messi goals and done his homework... for now.
Korea should had been more cut throat against a bad, bad and poor, poor Greece team. Still waiting for a on-form striker from any country!
-
waking up and seeing Argentina heading it into the goal was great for me :)
also the comradierie(?) that they show wanting to help Nigerian players up when they're on the ground shows a lot to me
-
also the comradierie(?) that they show wanting to help Nigerian players up when they're on the ground shows a lot to me
it's easier to be fairplay when you're leading the match :3
seems Argentina didn't really show 100% of their talent
a bit deceived by Nigeria, it was like they were ok with this score -_-
-
Argentina looked sloppy in the 2nd half, Nigeria should have at least got a goal. And who would have though the man of the match would be the Nigerian keeper XD
Who else thought that the person shining a laser onto the players was from one of the Nigerian criminal gangs? :P
-
boring ass game.
Let's hope England vs USA will have some firework in it :)
-
seems Argentina didn't really show 100% of their talent
a bit deceived by Nigeria, it was like they were ok with this score -_-
Argentina will never reach full their potential with Maradona on the bench...S.Korea played a better game imo
Man that goalie played very good, i bet his manager is very happy XD
-
FUMBLE!!!
Green fumbles the ball in the back of the net...only reason why the US is 1-1 with England right now..and England scored in the first 5 minutes
-
U! S! A!
U! S! A!
U! S! A!
Half-time now, 1-1. My boys can do it!
-
And the English commentators were
a) talking about how England can lead a rout through this game
and
b) talking about how good Green was
I don't know if you guys get the same, but is there really a need for so much slow motion footage? It's like every ball that goes out for a corner or throw in, and there's a super slow motion instant replay of the ball going out or of a players reaction. It's distracting, just focus on the game now!!
-
Yeah Tuffty, we get the super slo-mo replays on ESPN, at least. Fine American tradition, no doubt. :cokecat:
Onyewu confirmed for Beard Struggler
-
poor Green that was like the worst case scenario that could happen for england... well i still bet a 2-1 for England
-

-
Onyewu & Donovan were great too :O2
congrats USA \o/
-
U-S-A!! U-S-A!! U-S-A!!
Silly England commentators. Apparently England supporters can take comfort in the fact that the 1966 WC winning team drew their first match as well. Jesus, do they or will they ever stop talking about 1966?!
-
USA! USA!
My prediction was right lol.
-
Alright, a tie! Go USA?
I wish ABC would show more matches...I don't have cable anymore and online streaming kinda sucks.
Here's to an exciting tournament!
-
Hopefully the USA will win their next two matches big and finish on top of the group.
Winner of the group will probably avoid a round of 16 match with Germany. Let the English deal with them.

-
It ain't easy being Green XD
-
Thing is, at least in my eyes, the English pundits and media talk so goddamn much about a 'goalkeeper crisis' when they have at least 3 top tier keepers to choose from. Yet they still talk about how none of them appear to be reliable enough and they also keep going on about say Rooney's injury prone state, that it's all bound to be a self-defeating prophecy. Already, the goalkeeper made a calamity of a mistake, I'd be willing to put money down on Rooney being injured at some point during this tournament. It just has to happen. If you ever wanted to believe in karma, there's your proof. I'll tell you what else is going to destroy England's chances. Heskey. Completely useless.
Now the media's talking about replacing Green!! Way to inspire confidence in the team.
-
Grats Ghana
That handball
(http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/8587/1276444530990.th.jpg) (http://img813.imageshack.us/i/1276444530990.jpg/)

-
^ also Serbia played with only 10 guys. only the second red card in this Cup.
-
WTF was that handball all about?!  But yes congrats to Ghana, clearly the better side and certainly deserved to win 1-0.
And for those of you who missed Algeria v Slovenia...be glad  Non-event but then, it was always gonna be. Slovenia won 1-0 which means England have to beat them when they play their last group game against them.
^ also Serbia played with only 10 guys. only the second red card in this Cup.
Third. Ghezzal was sent off from Algeria, and there was another red card to Lodeiro from the France v Uruguay match
-
too bad for Serbia, now they have to beat Germany
Australia for the surprise :australia:
-
I kinda see trends happening all of a sudden. Bad finishing in the opening match has crept into all the matches so far. Now Green has just 'influenced' the Algerian keeper then followed by their red-carded striker who handed the ball which was mimicked by the Serbian defender for a penalty which I believe now will be given out in the Australia/Germany game later, if above stated rules apply.
-
^ Well there's been a red card at least! Though it shouldn't have been one IMO. Guess the next trend then is unfair red cards? lol Hope not
Now it's 3-0
-
After 75 minutes : 4-0 for germany :pimp:
I don't watch soccer , but outside the house they are celebrating already really noisy :smhid
-
FFFFFFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~
-
German Blitzkrieg!
Aussies down-under-wraps!
Mexican sent-off!
That was an incredible newspaper-making headline match! More please!
-
I'm not interested how germany or any other country plays! I don't really like soccer and I don't watch the games. I just hope this shit around this ends soon.
I hate ripped off flags on my bike or my helmet. I nearly beat up an asshole with EIGHT!!! damn german flags on his rusty VW Golf. He lost one in front of me and had afterwards a big mouth when I stopped him.
To all here who has these f*** windowflags. Check these regularly, they are damn dangerous flying off and blindfolding the traffic behind!

There's a lot of hate flying at one of the TV channels here in the UK. The reason why is the channel, ITV, were showing the England game live and then this happened:

-
nice goal from north korea ! Arsene Wenger enjoyed it too lol
Brazil wasn't that impressive :/
seems like Portugal - Brazil won't be exciting finally
-
NORTH KOREA WUT WUT!!!!
-
I really enjoyed the Brazil - North Korea game. Brazil had to work! And Korea did their best. I'm happy they managed to score!
-
North Korea confirmed to be the best team in the World Cup
SWITZERLAND GONNA CLEAN UP TOMORROW, NO DOUBT
-
I was really pleased for North Korea to at least get something from the match. As the commentator said, probably the most dignified defeat you're likely to see in a football match. Kim Jong Il won't see it as a defeat though. He's likely to project that goal as N.Korea beating Brazil in the final 1-0 XD
-
Koreans played a very tactical game, it reminds me Mourinho and Inter vs Barcelona so i'm sure it won't be any easy for the other 2... also i'm not surprised with Brazil game, they play like that the whole time and no wonder many brazilians dislike it
KOREA FIGHTING... very touching

A commentator said that the North Korea match would only be broadcast in North Korea if they won, then later said that was an unconfirmed rumour. Do we have any forum members in N.Korea (or anyone who knows anyone) who can confirm that?
-
peruvian commentator say that s.korean SBS owns the broadcasting rights for that zone and is pissed because n.koreans (no info about if is a tv station or just a bunch of fans) are using their signal for free (meaning they are pirates)

This match will be interesting. Chile are a decent side, came 2nd in the S.America qualifying campaign, only 1 point behind Brazil. Youthful side, and plays well. Currently winning 1-0 against Honduras. The most interesting match is surely their last one against Spain. Should Spain struggle a bit they would have to come against Chile in the final game of the group, and I'll tell ya, that will be a cracking match if true.
-
Didn't really like the game that much. Chile was definitely the better one, but couldn't really turn that into goals.

BEST GAME OF THE WORLD CUP! :hump: :hump: :hump:

Dude, what? WHAAAT? :shocked :shocked
Brilliant play from the Swiss. It was purely substance over style, but you can't fault them. I'm telling you, Spain v Chile is gonna be an awesome match! :twothumbs
-
congratz switzerland \o/
1st round over.
-
The thing that annoyed was the 5 minutes extra time. What a bunch of crap.
Yay for Switzerland though :cow:

The thing that annoyed was the 5 minutes extra time. What a bunch of crap.
My face when that happened: :banghead:
Spain, who were by no means poor, suffered just their second defeat in 49 matches

GOD JOB SPAIN!!!
Uruguay is going to win and so all the southamericans will reach next round XD
-
What a penalty. Can't stop that. I guess South Africa's chances of qualifying are all but gone now.
-
3-0; that's quite harsh
and not a good thing for France :panic:
-
Uruguay cleaned up. Feel bad for the South African fans, though.
Also: Argentina tomorrow -> :cokecat:

predict score between argentina south korea?

S.Afrika lost their goalie and the new one is no good so now they have a chance to win... too bad that Mexico is going to win tomorrow XD

Can't believe spain is lost :shocked
-
I was actually really happy that Spain lose XD
Hope Mexico win tomorrow ............ but i don't see that happening XD
-
4-1 already for Argentina.
Korea's goal was pretty cool. Argentina got lazy/cocky for a moment :P
-
^ A seriously silly slip up by Argentina, but Higuain easily made up for it.
Half in the Greece Nigeria game. Greece has been going crazy in front of goal before the break. That guy that got the red was just silly himself.
-
Argentina gonna qualify without a problem. Was kind of hoping S.Korea would get an equaliser. Once again, commentators sounding like they're busting a nut over Messi. XD
Dude who got the red card in the Nigerian game was a silly boy. That pretty much sealed the game for Greece, but not impossible for Nigeria to do. Argentina is likely to plow through Greece but they have to play S.Korea in the final game which will be tough. Should be an interesting match.
-
SHIT! France fucking up!
-
Mexico cleaned up. What exactly was France doing?
And the penalty that Abidal gave away? Along with missing Toulalan in their next game, I'm guessing France isn't looking too hot ATM.
Assuming France would beat South Africa, they could still go through, unless Mexico and Uruguay draw their game.
-
HERNANDEZ!!! More like that next season son! :w00t: :w00t:
-
Oh lol France ...
GG Mexico !

We are the best. Thank you for all Raymond !

A goal down at halftime.
After Spain and France, now is Germany and next is Netherland?
-
Halftime: This game is a load of shit and the ref is bad and should feel bad :tama-mad:

BUNCH OF SHIT
(http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2989/t7jfp.jpg)
-
Oh yeah the ref was super annoying on that match.
Though Germany's defense was also not very good this time, but maybe that was also due to being scared of getting more cards.
Now half of both teams are probably having yellow cards on the next match
-
slovenia - usa ... again the ref was bad -_-
congrats usa though :thumbsup
-
Wow, my thoughts are exactly the same for both games so far today.
USA got screwed over hard by the referee, and won that fucking game. FIFA, fix this shit. :tama-mad:

lool wtf with this world cup xD ?
well done Algeria \o/
-
wow England played like shit. Especially Rooney. Wtf is wrong with that guy. No hustle at all!
-
My God England are pathetic. Wait til you see, next step is for the public outcry to sack Capello. Commentators said it was because of his strict, dicliplinarian approach that caused a divide between the manager and the players. Well fuck me, if England played bad pre-Capello because they had a manager who wanted to be their mate and had a casual approach to training, how can you say the same when you go to the exact polar opposite, something which btw, the players and football pundits apparently praised Capello of before this started.
-
Great, great games these few days, then suddenly England had to stop the rot. Well done. While teams are either improving or imploding, you guys stay true to your abilities...
Also, really bad refereeing all of a sudden! Nitpicking and invisible fouls galore!
Goal of this match day? Donovan going "where's my backup? oh fuck it!" -BOOM-
-

LOL at beckham bitching out at Rooney.

America is gonna win this World Cup. You all know it to be true. :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:
I do fancy our chances of making it to the Group of 16 now, either facing Germany or Serbia. Given the card fest that the Germany-Serbia game was, looking like some players could miss the Group of 16, if they screw up in the last group match, because yellows aren't wiped until after the QFs (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1250070/index.html#regulations+cautions+expulsions). Though, having to face someone from Group A/B thereafter doesn't sound too awesome

ahhh~ french team is awesome
too bad coz Toulalan, Lloris, Gourcuff, Diaby etc... are great guys.

Rooney mouthed to the camera "It's nice to see your home fans booing you" when walking off the pitch last night. Rooney you legend. XD

I wonder if he was the real Rooney ... :huhuh

World Cup 2010: England fan enters team dressing room
An England fan attending last night’s World Cup game caused a major security breach when he was able to enter the team’s dressing room just moments after Princes Harry and William had visited the players.
The supporter managed to get past security at the Green Point stadium in Cape Town following England’s lacklustre goalless draw against Algeria in order to berate the players.
It is understood he gained access to the team dressing room after the players had left the pitch.
An investigation was immediately launched and the FA made a formal complaint to Fifa after it emerged that the security breach occurred shortly after the Princes, who had been attending the match, had paid a morale boosting visit to the team.
The disgruntled fan is understood to have confronted former England captain David Beckham over the team's poor performance.

also it seems like Anelka's gonna be fired ...
-
The Netherlands is always pretty boring to watch, but this match was particularly boring  They slimed through it once again.
-
Sounds like they should just ditch Domenech.
Grats to the Netherlands. Don't really care about the Australia game :cokecat: but here's hoping Denmark wins their match

not the exact words, but something like that.
Evra (the captain) said so. And he added "The problem is not Anelka, the problem is the traitor who gave these infos to the media because it causes a lot of troubles to the french team" (roughly translated)
Anelka has been fired just because his words have been published ...

Denmark VS Japan should be cool, the winner gets through to the next round!
-
Denmark pulled through! The game was hilarious, had some many forehead slapping moments. Hopefully the Danes pick it up against Japan.
I loved that manlove with Eto'o! I feel bad for Cameroon, sucks to be confirmed out already. Rough group, though.

FREAKING ENGLAND, JUST ONE MORE MATCH TO GO!!!! DON'T FAIL ME GODAMNIT

Let's go onto something much more easier on the eye than England's play style, how about Paraguay's hottest fan, glamour model Larissa Riquelme

She inspired Paraguay to their win, no doubt.
Take down Italy, New Zealand! DO IT
-
-
WTF ... ?
French footballers refuse to practice ... and are upset about Anelka's departure... :O
As some of french newspapers are starting to understand, Anelka and the french newspaper "L'Equipe" could be just a firewall to prevent Domenech's responsability in the bad results.
Almost when we know that Domenech's wife is a journalist with friends working @ "L'Equipe"...
Finally, I find them as interesting to watch as in 1998 ...
-
Yeh Anelka's retired from international football. Mad. Don't like the guy at all so it's rather good news. Apparently they refuse to train because it's the straw that broke the camels back.
France World cup refuse to train (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2010/article-1288096/France-World-Cup-squad-refuse-train-bust-Patrice-Evra-fitness-coach-Robert-Duverne.html?ito=feeds-newsxml)
There was a bust up between Patrice Evra and the fitness coach as seen in the video below and as you can see, the latter threw his accreditation badge away. The team director has also apparently resigned.
Exclu : Altercation entra Evra et Duverne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTjEQrge98g#)
France would have been much better by getting Blanc in earlier. Domenech is just not interested, his body language says as much. What was he doing when France were a goal down? Nothing. Looked like he was waiting for the next bus.
Congrats to the Kiwis! Man, England, France and now Italy want to join in on disappointing campaigns XD Italy's kind of different though, Lippi did make early substitutes, he did change the formation round. But it just obviously wasn't enough.
-
Too bad France is only there by dumb luck, and kept Ireland out.
Here's hoping France doesn't even play the next match
-
^ Exactly they shouldn't even be there in the first place. Knowing that they are there by the skin of their teeth, you would think they would give it their all, but no, contributed nothing to the tournament other than the lols. I find it funny and really frustrating. Not saying that the Republic of Ireland would have been so much better, but at least it would be fair and I'm sure they would have at least put more effort into it.
-
OWUT! KAKA kicked out. Fucking Ivory Coast guy dived like a bitch!! :tama-mad:
-
HAHA the Brazil - CIV game was awesome. CIV played like shit, fouled like shit, Brazil earned that win. :thumbup
Was bullshit that Kaka was sent off
-
OWUT! KAKA kicked out. Fucking Ivory Coast guy dived like a bitch!! :tama-mad:
SERIOUSLY!!!! that french was a fucking disgrace... but Brasil owned it with a good display and congradz to Kaka for leaving the field right away instead of making it more "noise"
-
What. The. Fuck. :o
Worst referee in the tournament by a mile. Misses the double handball by Fabiano for a start, and to give Kaka a second yellow is ridiculous. Didn't even hit his face! If you get a yellow for that, then every player is screwed! Silly ref.
-
^ French referee btw... what's wrong with France in this world cup that even the referees aren't doing it right?
-

Portugal 7-0 North Korea

-
-
Poor N.Korea XD Next groups games should be interesting. Spain obviously have to win this, should Honduras beat them, then they're out, a draw isn't even favourable. The dream scenario would be for a win against Honduras and Chile to lose against the Swiss. If those two draw, then they would sit on 4 points each, meaning that Spain not only have to beat Chile in the final game, but by a comfortable margin to get through on goal difference. Exciting!
-
This Chile - Switzerland game is pretty horrible.. like 9 cards within the first 60 minutes :nervous
-
-
So full of hate ;_;
-
what's wrong with the referees flashing cards like a unemployed send apps... I doubt this Chile can handle Spain and Honduras is no match for them so i'm thinking in 3 games with 6 points O_O anything can happen.
ps: N.Korea goalie ;_;
-
lol kim jong il gonna kill them!
NK goalie just flopping around
-
Great tweet in my timeline: Did North Korea really give up 7 goals or did they escape at halftime like the plan in "Victory"?
-
Too easy for Spain. Would have kept Torres on a bit longer, the game was already won at that point, and a goal would have given him a bit of confidence. Shit hits the fan starting tomorrow! Squeaky bum time for a lot of clubs. I wonder if France will even show up lol
-
Spain should have had more than 2, so many forehead slapping moments
Time for France to go home, I reckon

patheticness is finally over
go home France, shame on you players, coach, federation

I'm kinda sad to see France out, mostly because of some quality players like Lloris and Gourcuff missing out already.

Should be interesting to see how Italy do today. I imagine they'll get through, just. Along with Paraguay perhaps. Holland and Japan should make it through the other group.

Pick. It. Out.
Admittedly Sorensen probably could have done better, especially for the 1st but doesn't take away from the fact that they are both excellent strikes. Japanese are running the Danes off the pitch.

Portugal - Brazil
Korea DPR - Côte d'Ivoire
Final group stage matches coming up. Hoping for a Chilean/Swiss victory :thumbup While the DPRK - CIV game is almost pointless at this rate, it'll be interesting to see what they put out. I'm really hoping Brazil and Portugal go balls out, expecting a good match up.
Honda confirmed for move to La Liga :yep:
-
3 great goals for nippon... sadly the next game is their last because they are going down thanks to the southamerican power XD
and now i wish Chile can make it to the next round... i'm still thinking that a team will say good bye with 6 points

What a shit game. Brazil, Portugal, neither of you deserve to pass the Round of 16 for that.
:on redcard: :kickass: :knee: :punchballs:

Portugal vs Ivory Coast - One of the most disappointing matches of the tournament that failed to live up to expectations, neither side looking to break the other and has more diving and yellow cards than goalscoring attempts.

U S A!!!

i hope thay can win... Ghana is a very good team but there is nothing to fear

That Uruguay v South Korea match was pretty good! Korea perhaps should have had perfect goal scoring opportunity towards the end, if only they made better use of it.
I'll be the only one in the family watching USA v Ghana, they think it will be boring but how can it be when you're in the knockout stages? Rooting for the Yanks in this one.
*EDIT*
Unlucky USA. Looked a little tired in Extra Time. Great goals from Ghana to be fair.
-
KINGSON IS KING!
-
Well played, Ghana
I still love America, though :usa:
Don't let me down, Japan, Germany! :japan: :cokecat:
-
Being that the World Cup was on African Soil this year, I was actually in favor of an African Country (over my USA) winning this year. Sucks that we lost, but now I'm gonna route Ghana all the way to the Cup :)
-
Too bad for the USA ... I really hoped to see them in 1/2. (http://yelims.free.fr/Groumph/Triste11.gif)
-
Mexico is the team many people here have been cheering for.
-
That second defender looked like he was trying to get a foul, if he kept on going he coulda altered the shot or smth but DAMN good goal Ghana! - lol @ Dempsey being splattered all over the field.
WHOA! Postmania, tough luck Koreans :/
I dunno TDUCK. I'm cheering for some Latin American countries! CHILE!!!
-
Fuck yeah, ENG 0-1 REF!
Shitty refs aside, finally some World Cup quality.
-
-
^It's no worse than what happened to the USA in every game they played here, or to Ireland by France.
Germany has this under control if they keeper their cool, no doubt.
-
-
Oh God please Germany score more! PLEASE! Stryfe is absolutely right, the fans and press would never EVER let this go. And because of it they'll think they were robbed, and they would have won the World Cup had this not happened. Nevermind the fact that Germany probably should have been 5 goals up because the English defense right now has been absolutely terrible.
-
It's strange to see a good game... :O

A "psychic" octopus is said by its aquarium owners to have predicted the country's football team will knock England out of the World Cup.
BBC News - 'Psychic' octopus predicts Germany victory over England (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/10420131.stm#id10410000/10419800/10419891)
I guess the octopus was correct, then.
-
England ist kaput!!
Oh this is what I wanted. Just to clarify, the English press and pundits had massively underwritten Germany before kick-off, claiming they're too inexperienced to win. And they must have watched a different game last week because when I saw Germany v Ghana, Germany were playing well and in control without really trying, but all the english press seemed to watch them get dominated and they were terrible :o Again, shocking defending from England, I'd never seen them so stretched apart and they were just beaten for pace by the likes of Podolski, Ozil and Muller.
What do you guys think about goal line technology? I doubt much anything will happen but the debate will surely go on. Personally, I'd like to see it introduced just for instances like that, offside decisions and debating corners is too far.
-
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7672/1277651530587.jpg)
:bingo: Sorry England
-
Another team harshly done over by half time. Bet Blatter is feeling the pressure! Though there can be no excuse for the 2nd goal.
Heinze

From the Official Frustration thread:
Times like these I just want to abolish the whole refereeing system and make it completely reliant on technology.
OH MY GOD A MILLION TIMES THIS. It's not just a football/soccer thing, but pretty much all the major sports have had issues with inconsistent/incompetent officiating, and it's one of many reasons why I don't follow sports as much as I used to. It's just unfortunate that a lot of "fans" would be against such a logical idea on the grounds of "maintaining tradition" or similar retarded bullshit.
Yes, England lost plain and simple...even with the goal counted, Germany just kept pouring in a bunch of their own. But as far as I'm concerned it's a principle thing, and ESPECIALLY on such a grand stage as the World Cup does officiating need to be on top of everything to make sure the right calls are being made.
I agree that instant replay on everything would be going too far, but situations where the game is on the line definitely need the extra help. People are gonna complain that extra technology will just "ruin" the "great game", but seriously the game is already ruined when stupid things like this are allowed to happen. When a player messes up, he either gets punished by getting benched, or his team helps him out by covering his weaknesses; the same needs to happen with referees. The NHL has a goal review system, the NFL has red flag challenges; FIFA needs to join the 21st century already.
And don't give me any shit about "we might as well get rid of all the humans and let machines do all the work", because that's not what I'm saying; the human element can still remain, just with some necessary assistance.
Of course, this could also still lead to bad calls being made (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuck_rule_game), but that's a slightly different issue.
-
so many controversial calls and goals not allowed..makes you wonder who really is to blame:the refs or the ball
back to the French team for just a sec. if you're going to walk out and lay an egg after making all that money, then they don't have a place in the World Cup. FIFA may suspend the group, which is fine anyway since they want to act like spoiled brats with all that money and publickly embarrassing the country by wearing the colors
-
I agree wholeheartedly with what you said J. Look at the NFL, NHL, even Tennis, they have technology to introduce this stuff, but the need for Referee's/Umpires still remains. I think Blatter's reasoning is a load of bull as well. Apparently as you said, he worries it removes refs entirely, and he also said it's because it removes any talk or debate about it afterwards which fans love. Ugh, no? Fans like talking about a brilliant piece of play, the skill of an individual during a match or a mistake from the opposition, I don't think anyone likes the debate of did the ball cross the line or not. Like I said, there has to be a line drawn on how far it goes but surely situations like what happened in England's match today can be removed entirely from the game, making it fairer for all?
ckd: It's all to do with the refs mate. That ball, or any ball for that matter, would have crossed the line the way that Lampard hit it and where the ball hit the underside of the crossbar. The blame is firmly upon the referee and the linesman for failing to see such an obvious goal. Even in the Argentina match, Tevez was in the most clear offside position that you'll see at this tournament, yet again the ref didn't see it and Mexico got punished for it.
The French team probably shouldn't even be at the WC in the first place. If you want to know more about disgraceful behaviour just look up France v Republic of Ireland for the 2010 qualifying campaign and read about what happened there.
-
^ I know about the handball incident..what else happened?
-
Oh that's all XD Still, they got through to the World Cup because of it, and they didn't even play well when they should have been counting themselves lucky they made it.
Check this out, Eboue getting some instructions from the Ivory Coast v N.Korea game except, it's not from the same coach!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Aw man Ange!!! That was a helluva run for CHILE!!!
Brasil just too many weapons SHIT!!

Two boring games today. Hopefully the games tomorrow have some excitement.
Bring the action, Japan, Portugal! :cokecat:
-
Poor Japan! I still love you! :japan: :japan:
-
Huge yawn fest in general, but either team would've made history by advancing so the PK shootout was so much more intense.
Komano better run off to some cottage in the mountains for a while.
-
Poor Japan! I still love you! :japan: :japan:
Japan did a good game but GO PARAGUAY in penalties that are always very exciting and filled with luck
ps. Portugal- Spain zzzZZZZzzzZZZZZZ the FUCK... i can't care less who win this one
-
VILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
-
WTF was that red card about? Fuck me.
Must be frustrating for Ronaldo when you're playing for a team that just wants to defend all the time.
-
thanks Spain, 10€ earned lol
Villa, you're da man!
Portugal can have regrets by playing sooo defensive. Awesome goalkeeper tho
and lol @ the red card
-
LOL Portugal.
(sorry, nothing against the team but hell, I have (so many) personal reasons to be happy ^_____^)

Uruguay
Netherlands
You know it to be true :yep:
-
Melo's confidence went to trash after that own goal and with him all the team ;_; sad that there is no plan B
-
Netherlands deserved their win. Thought Brazil was over-rated, and I'm glad they're out now.
Come on Uruguay! :yep:
-
That 1-1 goal was just unnecessary.
Oh well, a semi-final without Brazil.
-
WOOOOOOOOOHH :cow: :cow: :cow:
Brazil pwnd in the first half, but somehow the NL weaseled through once again
edit: lol, just realized I'll be at the Versailles concert during the semi-final :nervous
-
Wesley Sneijder, what a beast of a player! Real Madrid severely underrated him and for Inter to have got him at the price Real sold him for, they made an absolute bargin.
So Argentina v Brazil final is out of the picture. And Holland are doing better than I expected. Which is weird considering I would have supported them any other time XD
Interesting game this Uruguay v Ghana. 1-1 at 70 mins. Think Uruguay will just take it. Diego Forlan, what a legend.
-
Wesley Sneijder, what a beast of a player! Real Madrid severely underrated him and for Inter to have got him at the price Real sold him for, they made an absolute bargin.
at first Pellegrino wanted him on the team but "you know who" forced the move to Inter...
ps: 1-1 in regulae time, my guess was right :D take that you experienced commentator that wanted a goal galore
-
Uruguay v Ghana going into overtime... got bored of it, so I'll check back in half an hour to see if there are penalties.
-
OH SNAP!! :o :o :o What a crazy finish to Extra Time!

U R U G U A Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I KNEW IT ALL ALONG

Congrats Uruguay!
All my knockout predictions have come true thus far. Don't let me down, Germany, Spain :sweatdrop:

Gyan you choking bitch. :tama-mad:

What a team. Funny how none of the big players throughout the tournament like Messi, Rooney etc didn't make it on the scoresheet. I can say a few German players have certainly had their value raised dramatically.
Spain should win the next game fair enough. Germany v Spain will be some match. :fap
-
even if I've lost some bucks, congrats germany ! what a great team !
-
germany just outhustled everyone in the tourney lol
-
WTF is this Paraguay - Spain game, seriously?
-
funny game
once again Spain did the minimum to pass
-
Wow Spain got so lucky there. The Paraguay penalty and the ball hitting both posts before crossing the line for the winning goal. Need to play a lot better when up against Germany.
-
Why people still say that Casillas shouldn't be on goal? clearly he is superior and is the captain... oh yeah and for me he is the MOTM just because that penalty and that last save he did.
GERMANY - SPAIN WILL BE AWESOME... i expect goals
-
Paraguay should have gotten to take their penalty again, given that there were several Spanish player meters into the box. It was a lucky goal from Villa, definitely not impressed by Spain's play. Do they really think they can beat Germany?

At least if Uruguay can move on, Suarez can play in the final. Shitty move on his part, but awesome at the same time. Uruguay would have been toast without that. I don't expect Uruguay to beat Netherlands either way, sadly. :sweatdrop: Maybe Suarez should have been a keeper instead?

At the end of the first half, I thought Uruguay still had a reasonable chance, but then the Dutch just steamrolled them. Too bad for Forlan, he's such a quality player.
AND IF THAT OCTOPUS HAS RUINED THE GAME FOR GERMANY TOMORROW . . .
j/k, still wagering on a German victory :germany:
-
WOOO HOLLAND! one step closer to the jackpot!
i hope spain wins, netherlands prolly have a better chance beating them than germany

good game uruguay but holland killed it in 5 minutes... now germany must beat the octopus (and eat it coz is delicious)
-
i hope spain wins, netherlands prolly have a better chance beating them than germany
Not sure about that. If they play against Germany they'll be a 1000x more motivated
-
Fuck you, Paul.
Question is what difference Müller would've provided if he'd played.
-
Boring game tonight...
-
-
Spain or Netherlands FTW then? Personally I'm going for the Netherlands. May as well go for the underdog.
-
Fuck you, Paul.
Question is what difference Müller would've provided if he'd played.
The difference between winning and losing, almost! Germans probably realized they couldn't match Spain when it comes to possession-play because like Arsenal and Barcelona, they're just geared mentally and physically to play like that. They tried the clever tactic of hitting on counter, and they had a few decent chances. If Müller was there, they would have had that extra dimension in counter-attacking and wing-play and of course that guy can easily score goals too. Everything worked fine, till they left Puyol unmarked outside the box. Tough luck for Germany because from then on, Spain would still have kept 70% possession. With Xavi and Iniesta in ANY team of the world, they're always gonna keep 70% possession.
I think the Spanish would win the world cup. Stekelenburg didn't impress me against Uruguay and he could be exposed again against Spain. Damn the Spanish are as tough as Barcelona and it would another "special one" to unlock them I guess :nervous

Paul predicts another one for the Spanish.
GERMAN TRAITOR! I'd like an octopus platter once the world cup is finished. 8)2
-
Congrats to Germany on 3rd place! I was still holding the grudge against Uruguay/Suarez. But my brother supports Germany, so I follow after him anyways.
-
Intense game! Congrats to the Germans.
A part of me wanted Forlán to score that last free kick, though.
-
I was like ripping my hair out throughout the whole game lol
3-2 X__X yikes. it was nerve-wrecking.
SPAIN V NETHERLANDS TOMORROW! WOOP WOOP
Is anyone else kinda bummed out knowing this is the last game? T__T lol
-
the only awesome in this world cup is Uruguay in the top 4, the rest was kinda expected... OH and the 3rd game was very amusing, glad i watched it
FUCK if Forlan score in that last play... oh and i bet Ghana's coach is still super mad with the way they lost against Uruguay (Suarez isn't a cheater my dear mr.)

The only bums we know of is this:

Spain will win, Paul said so :thumbup
-
I'm watching this game right now, live (and doing laundry). I'm trying, the announcers aren't over the top and I am fully aware of the magnitude of it all.
But a game like this, no matter how gripping to The True Fan, is lost on a novice as myself. Duhhh....
-
I had my doubts after yesterday's game, and as expected there's no way the final will top it.
This better not end in PKs.
-
Robben is gonna go Zidane!!
-
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLlllll
-
FUCKING OCTOPUS
I'll be honest, Spain has an incredible team, and if they hadn't won this, they never would have. Grats to them!
-
Lol, octopus wins.

It's time to now head straight to Poland and Ukraine. Euro 2012 is now the focus and time for the European and world champions to start defense of its title. With Laurent Blanc as the new manager of France, I guess it's time for them to do to Spain what they did in 2006. Allez la France!

The best thing for me was watching Torres hurting his hamstring again  If I were in charge of Liverpool I would maybe consider getting the money for him while they still can.

lots of spanish babies 9 months from now
Half of them would be named Iniesta. Anyone up for Sara?
I am very happy for Mueller. There's another Juergen Klinsmann born for Germany. Only twenty years of age, barely in senior football for a year or so, and now amongst the best players in the world with Diego Forlan. Good thing that Mesut Oezil also got nominated for golden ball award. Two years from now, who can bet against Germany conquering Poland/Ukraine, except that I seriously think Laurent Blanc would rejuvenate the French side and restore their pride with a few trophies XD

Spain has a new ambassador to Germany in the form of Paul the Octopus.

Surprise, surprise! Story jacked from OMNTD.
North Korean Footballers Publicly Humiliated
North Korea's national football team were given a marathon public reprimand after losing all three of their World Cup matches, including a 0-7 rout at the hands of Portugal that has been blamed on leader Kim Jong-il's inept orders, Radio Free Asia reported Monday.
Citing unnamed North Korean sources, RFA said the team were made to stand on a stage at the People's Palace of Culture on July 2, just three days after they returned from South Africa, and subjected to ideological criticism for six hours. The team's two Japanese-born players, Jong Tae-se and An Yong-hak, were exempt from the session.
Around 400 officials including the vice minister of the Workers' Party, Sports Minister Pak Myong-chol, other athletes and sport students were apparently part of the audience. Ri Dong-kyu, a sports commentator for the North's state-run Korean Central TV, pointed out the mistakes of each player.
'Coach Kim Jong-hun and the team's athletes were made to stand on a stage and other North Korean athletes and students took turns criticizing the players. At the end of the session the team members were made to criticize their coach,' RFA quoted a source as saying.
A source in Sinuiju said the theme of the session was 'criticizing the betrayal of the trust of Kim Jong-un, 'Kim Jong-il's son and heir apparent. Coach Kim was probably reprimanded because somebody had to take the blame.' The source added there are rumors that he was expelled from the party or sent to work at a construction site in Pyongyang.'
A South Korean intelligence source said, 'In the past, North Korean athletes and coaches who performed badly were sent to prison camps. Considering the high hopes North Koreans had for the World Cup, the regime could have done worse things to the team than just reprimand them for their ideological shortcomings.'
North Korea made it to the World Cup for the first time in 44 years. In November last year, North Korea gave the entire team special honors, while Kim Jong-un paid a personal visit to the team's training camp to cheer them on. Earlier reports said the rout by Portugal was due to direct orders from Kim Jong-il for the players to switch to a reckless offensive strategy.
