Figured this would be a simple enough topic. Just post pictures of some of your favorite character designs from videogames! Preferably actual concept art, though CG art or screenshots are fine if the it's unavailable. Maybe with an explanation about why you like them.

Original and stylish, it's one of the more striking and unique character designs I've seen in some time. Besides, how many female game characters do you know of that have beehives?
Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2

As gamers we're well equipped to deal with monsters with snarling teeth or megalomanics hell bent on world domination. Give us something as enigmatic or as mysterious as Pyramid Head however, and we don't know what to do with ourselves. Something that initially comes off as a dumb idea, actually turns out to be one of the creepiest designs in anything, ever.

Gabranth - Final Fntasy XII

You can include all the judges from FFXII under this. The armour creates a very imposing character who you could tell meant business, in the same vein as say Darth Vader (which is quite an easy assumption to make considering FFXII attempts to follow a number of cues from Star Wars)

What I like in particular about Lady, at least from her appearance in Devil May Cry 3, is that she's not this perfect, large chested woman who can kick ass without a scratch. She's rather flat chested and there are a myriad of scars on her legs, and one on the bridge of her nose. I think it gives her character.

I always like Ueda's stuff. The ambiguity of his characters/Designs makes them so much more fascinating than normal stuff.

Sora - Kingdom Hearts
The crazy spiky FF haircut, the colorful "mickey" duds and the cute keyblade (did anyone else ever think of whacking monsters with keys). There's just no reason you can dislike this kid. 0 dislike. :thumbsup

Faith - Mirror's Edge

I like Faith's design for two reasons:
a.) Her clothing was designed to be entirely functional, with very little done solely to add "flash" to it. It's a completely realistic design for someone who'll be partaking in the kind of physicality the game is based around.
b.) Faith is an Asian female in a western game, and they actually didn't oversexualize the way she looks. Almost any other developer (even an Asian one) would have given her big boobs and a baby face, and the clothing probably would have been more revealing. Instead, DICE designed her to be a realistic Asian woman, with a slightly angular face and a slender athletic body. Rather than looking like a model or movie star, she looks like the kind of real Asian woman you could meet in normal life. DICE deserve major credit for that.

fucker have fully personalized sets of gunblade, keychain, rings... even his own guardian force... WTF he must be awfully rich (no wonder he make it to leader of the garden in no time xP)

I rarely play a JRPG that conforms to so many cliches. In my Dreamcast days I got a masterclass in this from a little known game called Skies of Arcadia. Think of any convention you're likely to find in a JRPG or in anime, and you're likely to find it here. Different areas and dungeons in the world relating to the 4 elements? Yep. Mythical stones you need to collect? Yep. Spunky teen who's eager to fly away (literally) from his dull home town and explore the vast world only to become an integral player in saving the world? You betcha. But it was enjoyable nonetheless, a very charming game. Certainly in the case of it's cast, in particular the main three shown below from left to right, Fina, Vyse and Aika. I thought the design fit the characters so perfectly in their personality and charm.

No serously, Old Nier was a bold design for a japanese game character, where ususally affemminate males are dominating, but in the end they were forced to change it for the japanese market, which is sad.
I mean, there are so many western gamers who love JRPG's for those affemminate male characters, why shouldn't there be an japanese audience for western designed characters, too?

Mega Man - Mega Man Series
I honestly haven't played that many Mega Man games.
The first thing from the series that comes to mind for me would actually be be Cut Man! :lol:
It kinda shows that many enemy designs in the series were just as iconic as the hero himself. :heart:

Shanoa's my favourite character in the series, a cold femme fetale that impales giant crabs with elevators. I like that her dress was open backed, which is pretty sexy, and a rocking tattoo as well.
Also really liked the way Dracula looked in that game. Pretty sinister.

Yes, Sephiroth. The first time I ever fought him was in Kingdom Hearts. What's worse is that I didn't know I was going to fight him. I believe he was the Platinum Match in Hercules' world, which is just a bunch of question marks before you actually attempt it. I went in there, oblivious to what I was about the face and, oh god, I almost shat bricks. I was scared of him simply because I had read about him in a gaming magazine before. I got beaten pretty quickly and I don't think any part of any video game has ever made my heart beat so hard.

Alex Vance - Half-Life 2

Along the same vein as Faith from Mirror's Edge, Alex just looks like a normal woman. Her face also displays a range of emotions throughout that makes her very believeable. She's also a wonderfully well written character. Part of the appeal to Half Life is that Gordon Freeman is such a blank slate of a character that it's not hard to think that Alex is talking to you, the player, which also makes her easy to relate with. It's not really a surprise to see her high up on the list of attractive women in games.

Not a character with any great depth or complexity, but he does look like a cool badass samurai.

Adam Jensen - Deus Ex : Human Revolution
At first I didn't think much of it, but something about the design of Adam Jensen just works so well when you see it all in-game, like crouching to cover before knocking motherfuckers out with a metal fist to the eye socket. Plus the retractable shades, those are pretty awesome. Really like the glow that his augmented eyes give and his arms look hi-tech and badass.

I thought the character designs in Kirby's Epic Yarn were delightful and clever. The look also tied into the gameplay with the way Kirby would morph into a car when you dashed, a parachute when you floated ect.

I was just looking at some Asura's Wrath videos and couldn't help but notice it has a pretty awesome art style and character designs. Super colorful and everything looks like it came off of a wood engraving.

It's not out yet (somehow a release date in anounr April/May still constitutes as 'launch window' for the PS Vita :lol:), but you can say even looking at this stage, that Gravity Rush has a really nice art style. Very clean, simple and distinctive.

Sarevok - Baldur's Gate

The first thing you see when you play Baldur's Gate is a CGI video that introduces you straight away to the antagonist, Sarevok. And what a beginning. An incredibly imposing figure who kills a knight without remorse (he's laughing as he does it) and with no real effort at all as he casually picks up the knight with one hand by the throat, slams his body through a steel fence which breaks it open and crushes the life out of him (you can hear the bones snap and the blood rising up, choking the knight). Plus that armor looks pretty damn cool. It leaves a lasting impression, and one where it leaves you with dread knowing you'll have to fight him at some point.
