Talk about one of the best RPGs for the Gameboy Advance of the Video Game World!!
It could be about the awesome (epic) OST or the Gameplay or the story or the characters... Tell us your favorite GOlden Sun character and why he or she!

AND of course... let us talk about the upcoming DS Game Golden Sun: Dark Dawn that will be released in a few months!!

I'm afraid I can't really talk about Golden Sun. By the time the first one came out, I admit I was rather elitist and foolishly thought it was a poor man's Final Fantasy after an hour of playtime. It's a decision I regret now because they sound awesome. Curse my immaturity! I'll be looking on in interest at Dark Dawn, looks pretty good.

Yay! XD Wanted to open the thread days ago but got not the right time for it! xD

I suggest you to play the first two games before you start with Dark Dawn. Because the Story of Dark Dawn plays 30 years after the second game! The Heroes of this game are the children of the protagonists from the GBA games! 8]

XD Although they've been quite lazy with the character design as they look quite similar to the previous character design.

Can't wait for it regardless though. They just need to announce an EU release date now.

Yep, that's right! The first game is not that long xD But the second game is very long...
The game itself should've been an one game with the story complete... But it must've been into two parts because of the poor space capacity of the Gameboy Advance! That#s why, we have two Golden Sun games with two Protagonists! xD

What I like about this game is that you can send all you Coins and DJinn's and all that stuff from the first to the second game, so you have them there too. (But only after you meet Isaac's party and they joining your party!)

The first game I completed (on a recent run through) in 16 hours 9 minutes XD That's having obtained all Djinn and done the optional Crossbone Isle. Plus it'd been at least 3 years since I last played it. Oh and I was only Level 29 XD

For a loner back then it was super annoying transferring everything across. That Gold password...UGH!

Ain't that weird when it happens? I recently completed Metroid Prime after 5 years or so of not playing it, and yet I cleared it in 15hrs, the fastest time ever. Must be because there's some games out there so well designed and which you love that it leaves a lasting impression on the memory :D

Gaia was a skill. Don't remember Gaia Blade XD Ragnarok was goddamn useful to me.

Yeah it's strange

I'm just playing Heartgold for now but do plan to transfer across my GS1 save to GS2 when I finally start playing it.

My Isaac was the fastest on mine. Ninja shirt and another accessory and he was wham Ragnarok. XD Was fun.

Yeah the password annoys me. I thought I'd copied it perfectly onto my laptop then onto my GS2 game but no luck there :/ Gonna have to try again soon.

That sucks, really! But if you're successful, then you can play so long until you meet the old party again! xD
My plans are, that I'll play GS2 until I meet the old party and play the rest of the game with them! And yeah, I'll do everything to get them to the Level -in GS1- that is requiered on that status of the game, where you meet Isaac's party!

Yeah, the first game was only half of the story.
At least I assume it was half because they only got to 2 out of 4 lighthouses in the first one and I didn't get a chance to play the second one.

You're absolutely right on that.

The first game follows Isaac and his party as they attempt to stop the Mercury and Venus Lighthouses from being lit, whereas the second game follows Felix and his party as they attempt to light the Jupiter and Mars Lighthouses.

The complete story to all four lighthouses through Isaacs party (like in the first game but only with the other two Lighthouses, Mars and Jupiter) and the other way through Felix' party (Merkur, how they kidnap Sheba, Venus, Jupiter and Mars...) That could be awesome! :inlove: But the game is still awesome like it is now xD

Well... You CAN wait for the DS release... but I would recommend you to play the GBA games (both) until the End, so you can understand the story of Dark Dawn...

I really can't remember much about this game, except the beginning where you walk around in the village, and then I remember something about some light houses... :lol: but that's it.

I never bought the sequel, since I never made it through the first one... but yeah, we'll see xD; I've got plenty of games to play at the moment, but I'll go dig it out anyway 8D!

But I think, they'll have some kind of side role in the game... Like helping their children in some way...

The trailer shows off the Abilitys, called Psynergy! :DDD And you can see, how the gameplay in the Touchscreen with the Psynergy works! The battle system is showed too!

What I love about Dark Dawn is, that the old sounds, like jumping, is in there too! 8DDDD OMG WTF, can't wait! :D

Or......Isaac's child.....IS JENNA'S CHILD TOO? :panic: (or Garet's sister's, whichever you feel is more appropriate)

..Another crazy thought: What if the protagonists had dual elements? I mean, naturally they had dual elements and not because of Djinn combinations.

I found Ragnarok too much of a PP killer; for random battles, I stuck to using Djinn..Flint kicked so much ass in random battles. XD

In any case, the summons are AMAZINGLY PRETTY. The intro 'arc' is pretty great if you're a complete newbie to the system since it lets you mess around with different styles of play.

What you need to do is relatively straight-forward; there's only so many places you can go anyways, since if you're not meant to be in a certain place yet, chances are you don't have the Psynergy to complete the puzzles.

Oh, and I'm quite happy with the 'area' effect of field Psynergy. What that means is that when Psynergy is used in the field, it no longer simply affects directly in front of you. For example, if you had a pillar you wanted to move, you can face your back to it, use Move and the cursor will automatically spin you towards the pillar and move it in the direction you choose, even if you were at an angle from the pillar. Plus, no PP (or EP as it's called in the Japanese games) is wasted if you use the field Psynergy and decide to cancel it or the field Psynergy is unable to complete its task. :D

Edit:
There's quite a number of new field Psynergy in this game:
- Smack; literally smacks an object
- Smell; finds someone's path based on smell
- Thermal; creates a path of flame that you can ride up
- Premonition; displays what kind of Psynergy can be used onscreen (very useful!)
- Grip; literally grips a distant object

/me loves his OHKO Djinns :D

Post by: jafeijai on November 09, 2010, 12:10:19 AM: So after 37 hours or so of gametime (including 3 optional bosses and grinding time), I have finished the main story of Ougon no Taiyou DS (Golden Sun in Japanese :P )!!!

My thoughts:
- Definitely a great game considering how the story development was in the previous two. Each additional character after the starting four (Matthew, Terry, Karis, Crown) had their own little section of gameplay which led up to them being included to your party. Though I have to say the game could have been longer; there was a lot of potential to explore more on certain characters which could still have tied into the story overall.
- I love my OHKO Djinns. ...I think I've mentioned this before.
- The graphics are AMAZING. I'm sure those viewing this thread have already seen some previews from Youtube and whatnot, I'm not going to try convincing anyone of the graphical quality of this game.
- The weapon system has gotten an interesting boost; instead of simply obtaining the weapon, equipping and unleashing special moves as much as your character's luck allows, each weapon now has a leveling system. What I mean by that is most weapons (regardless of whether you find it normally in shops or it's a weapon found in the field) have at least two special moves (the Sol Blade that you get towards the end of the game has a whopping four)! However, the chance of the stronger special moves activating is quite minimal when you first obtain the weapon; you have to continually use that weapon (through normal attacks) in order to 'level up' your weapon (to increase the chance of activation) and 'master' the special moves. Remember, this applies to all weapons: continuous usage of the weapon ensures a greater chance of special moves activating. Of course, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to pull off the strongest move every time your weapon activates; mastering the moves (and consequently, the weapon) simply increases that chance and enables a greater variety of special moves.

tl;dr This game is teh awesomez!!!! :grin:

Will definitely play this again in English.

/me is still trying to kill Dullahan .... T-T

This is what happened to me earlier:
- standby 8 Venus Djinn and 2 Jupiter Djinn to summon Charon on the first turn
- standby 3 Mercury Djinn and 3 Jupiter Djinn to summon some healer on the first turn (the name escapes me atm)
- enter battle
- Matthew uses Void (similar to Flash from the previous games, where damage is reduced to pretty much 10%)
- Dullahan summons Charon
- 3/4 starting characters (excluding Matthew) die due to Charon secondary effect
- ragequit.

My only gripe is it's a bit confusing to keep all of the names that are flying around straight.

Though on a sidenote, the difficulty of some of the puzzles in Dark Dawn are a lot higher than the usual Golden Sun puzzle. That Aries puzzle ;_;..

What are your levels like right now? I don't suggest attempting Crossbone Isle until at least lvl50 ^^; ....at least, not Dullahan. The rest of the dungeon is pretty good training grounds though.
