Meguru belongs to the "seijun" type of gravure idols (ie. pure and innocent looks) ... just the type that I like best! She has also been described as being in "ane-kei", meaning that she reminds people of their elder sister (must be her goofy smile?) ... but I never had an elder sister anywhere like her at all!! :x :evil: I mean, she practically redefines the word "Pure Smile"... But you really have to watch her DVDs to find out for yourself.

Well I'm not aware of the thing with the random pics because (for me anyway) my layout was not distorted at all, so I don't know why it happened to you...:? I'll try and look into it next time then...

I have her autograph, yes, but I haven't met her..... (I wish...) T_T
(I also have Nao Nagasawa, Yu Hasebe and Mari Morishita's autographs... it's pretty easy to get cheap autographed items from Amazon or Yahoo Auctions...)
If you like her I recommend getting her "Meguru Kisetsu" IV ... it's simply the best IV I'd ever seen! It's more expensive than usual IVs (being a 2 DVD set) but the effort put into it creating the 4 seasons theme and all the background technical work creating all the visual effects, the superb camerawork and sound was like nothing seen before in almost all the other normal IVs being churned out all the time (and I've seen a lot of them... I think the only other IVs with comparable concepts are some of Nao Nagasawa's...) And you get 1 DVD full of interesting offshots...
Alas, her latest IV (Merry-Go-Round) was by comparison a lazy, budget production.... although I shouldn't complain because that was the one she autographed. XD

I have some pics that come from this set... but I downloaded them off a photo upload site that is now dead so I'm quite sure I don't have them all, or indeed which pics I have that belong to this set, sorry...

I've spent a bomb buying her DVDs and old magazines (in fact any magazine that has her inside their DVD) and her stuff recently, but I feel that every cent has been worth it, I'm loving her more and more... I can't wait for her DVD (she just finished shooting one in Okinawa) to come out in probably October I think.

Really? I'm a shopaholic though, so... I've bought quite a few DVDs and pbs so far. :blush: I've been a dedicated Meguru fan for a year already. (my obsession had to happen AFTER I come back from Japan argh making it that much harder to buy her stuff XD) There're some great deal of her stuff off Yahoo Auction JP, if you bother to look. I managed to nearly complete her HIPPS trading card collection by buying just 300yen worth of cards off it. And I have 2 autographed DVDs for lower-than-retail price (about 3000yen each) too!
She's got quite a few DVDs though and I still have a few more to go before I can complete my collection. Plus, one of her IVs was only released on UMD... and I do not have a PSP.... :evil: I'm on the verge of buying her drama DVD box set though (For Shinrei Tantei Yakumo)

Haha yah I try my best to read her blog every few days for more than 1 year now. It's my most visited blog, because it's always interesting. I'll even post a message in reply once in a while. And she has said that she appreciates all the messages of support or reply that comes with any of her blog posts and she'll read all of them (even though there are of course morons who post perverted messages once in a while). She's one of the very few celeb bloggers I know that allows for readers to post replies to her posts -unmoderated at that. (maybe coz she has no enemies?! I've heard some celebs who shut down the reply functions of their blogs because rival fans spam them..)
Plus, she's also the only celeb blogger I know in Japan that don't just talk about mundane things like the food she eat, but also about serious issues close to her heart in her "Meguru no hitorigoto" section, like ijime and so forth. It belies the simple/ditzy image that she can sometimes give you, but it makes me like her even more to know that she's not some brainless bimbo.
Anyway, I find that her sister can definitely be an actress. Even her mum looks pretty good, in my opinion! (it's the good Ishii family genes, I guess)

The "Kokuhaku" version is quite funny, I thought. She said in her message that she'll be playing the game and you should let her know if you think you see her inside! She says she might even introduce herself sometimes. But I think playing Maple Story just to find her will be more difficult than finding a needle, not just in a haystack,but in the Pacific Ocean!
As for her recent appearances, you could have caught her in episode 6 of "Jigoku Shojo" where she was the special guest star. (pretty good episode if you asked me). I also bought the DVD set for "Shinrei Tantei Yakumo" where she was the lead actress recently and the dorama is really fantastic, if you asked me, for such a small production, although her acting could do with a bit of polishing, but I really liked the story and the music/directing.
As for her latest gravure dvds, "Natsumeguru" and "Koimeguru", they're not that great though. Just pretty run-of-the-mill budget IV stuff, although she did get to kiss a killer whale in Natsumeguru which was cute. I wish she could get the company which did Megurukisetsu to handle her next IV (her IVs all seem to be produced by different companies) again because Megurukisetsu is still by far probably the best produced IV I've ever watched.

Just a little bump for my favourite girl ... So happy that I managed to finish buying every single one of her solo DVDs during my Japan trip last month... :heart: She didn't have an event though, so there was no way I could have met her, although nothing could have stopped if there was (come to think of it, I should have just spent some time staking out her management company in Shibuya, in case she goes there to report for work, lol). Oh well, to celebrate I finally updated my ava and signature as well... hahha...

she really beautiful, she really does have this "pure smile." a very warm, goofy smile and "lights up ur day" kinda smile. she the kind of person that'll ask u how's ur day when u come home and you'll feel protected and comfortable whenever she's around. that the kind of vibe i got from her. wonderful. i could tell why people call her "ane-kei", but i don't think i would call her that though, too weird, although my sis is nothing like her.

yahhhh ... she looks so friendly and genuine especially when she flashes her "innocent" smile, doesn't she? Like a person who can be a really good friend to be with, or someone that you want to protect if she's your girl (she's really short by the way...). She doesn't seem like the type that would quarrel with anyone either (she mentioned last time that she wouldn't want her sister to be in the gravure industry too, because she doesn't want to invite unwanted comparisons and to create opportunities where she might end up competing with her sis and maybe end up quarreling) If you read her blog, she went to Yokohama with her sister over the weekend and caught two really big stuffed toys ...

In this program (aired about 2 years back), she went over to Atami, a small sea-side town near Tokyo famous for it's hot springs. She introduced the sea side area abit but spent most of the time at one of the hot spring/water resorts doing gravure stuff....

There are 2 different versions of this show floating around the net, one is the full version and another version consists of 4 parts which excludes the beginning and ending. Unfortunately I only managed to download a little bit of the full version so I won't be sharing that but I did manage to download the first 2 out of the 4 parts which she did at the resort so enjoy guys!
By the way, I actually went to this same Atami Spa Resort when I visited Atami last month.... without knowing that it's the same resort that Meguru went to!!!!! I just thought it looked awfully like the same one and only when I came home to check did I realise that I was right and it was indeed the same resort... it's a fantastic one, in any case, but the fact that Meguru was there as well once upon a time made it that much better an experience.

She had a Maple Story event on Saturday when she appeared as a player in the game (I wanted to join in too but the timing slipped my mind damn... I don't play Maple Story though but I figured it would have been hard to find her anyway since she mentioned that there were like a few hundred other fans in the same place?!)
Anyway the Maple staff celebrated her birthday with her... well I estimate that it's at least the 4th cake she'd eaten the past week... aaah it's tough turning into an adult when you're an idol. You can get sugar poisoning way too easily.

She's been really active lately, Meguru, with the release of the DVD next week. She even went to get a diving licence in Okinawa recently that sounded really interesting but the whole project was up on a keitai-only site.... By the way, Meguru's new DVD "Meguru no Sebuyukai na Nakamatachi" will be released on Jan 25! It's looking very good judging from the cover anyway. Here's the DVD cover and some pix. Yes I know that the shots aren't fantastic, I'm not a great camaraman and i don't own a huge SLR like most of the fans there, unfortunately. And rather than going for quantity like above I admit that I could have gone for quality instead and actually maybe adjusted my focus and gone for the "looking at cam" shots more rather like clicking the shutter button like an epileptic madman but I was kind of nervous enough as it is.
Basically, I had planned my whole trip to Japan in February to coincide with Meguru's DVD release event which I knew will be held around that time, thankfully just after the Sapporo Snow Festival which was another of my aims so i could pop to Akiba just after I finish with Hokkaido.
This is just the second idol event that I had gone for in my whole life (since I don't have the luck being a Tokyo-jin). It would have been the 3rd time if not for the fact that an emergency made me miss one a few years but there was no way I could miss this even if Godzilla decides to hit Tokyo that day. The first time was in April last year, when i went for Noriko Kijima (http://blog.livedoor.jp/kijimanoriko/)'s event (I could share the pix for that one if anyone is interested), but this one was very different.
Simply put, my attendance for Noriko's event was a mere act of inconvenience if you may (I knew I would be in Tokyo that day and i scanned through the list of idols having events that day and she was my favourite from the bunch) unlike for Meguru which needed pre-planning (including checking the Air Control website every day to find out the event details-- they always release them just a couple weeks before if you are lucky so it doesn't leave much time for planning).
And the attendance!!!! While Noriko Kijima's event had a pathetic attendance of barely 20 odd otakus (including me and my travel buddy which i dragged there) Meguru's event had a room-bursting 140-odd fans. The room which the event was held in, (top floor event space of Sofmap Amusement-kan) had barely enough space to accommodate us all. Before the event started, there were already so many fans with gifts loitering outside Sofmap waiting for it to start, I guess particularly as this would be her first solo event for half a year or so, and her first since she had her coming-of-age ceremony in January. As far as minor idols go, she seem to be doing rather well, happily enough, of course she is the top girl in PBB (her talent agency) as well.

The number for my event coupon was 72 (I wasn't able to grab the DVD on release date unfortunately so there was no way I could a much better number), and that got me a seat somewhere in the middle, with a relatively good view, but unfortunately we
could not take pictures of her at any time other than the designated camara-time, otherwise i could have taken a hundred more shots and maybe a video as well lol.

As usual, before Meguru appeared on stage two hosts came up and made some jokes/introductions to kill some time. To their credit they were pretty funny but of course no one was really that interested. And then the moment --- Meguru ran onto stage with a little boy, holding his hands, to a huge roar from the audience. あれ？！ Did she suddenly adopt a little boy, or got pregnant without me noticing!?! Turns out that the kid was just the child of the camarawoman responsible for shooting the DVD, Aya-something. You can see that Meguru really loves little kids, from the way that she plays with this one as well as her little cousin who she always showcases on her blog.

Then comes the first part of the event -- the talk. She isn't a really great talker and seem slightly shy in front of the audience but
that's part of the appeal, i guess. Basically Meguru talked about the "mystery" of the title (the "yukai na tomodachi" referred to the kids, naturally), the shooting of the DVD and her experiences, how she really enjoyed playing with the Cebu children when she was there (she played baseball with them). She joked that the scene at the end of the DVD when she jumped into the sea from the pier was like that of the Calpis CM (the one with Haruka Ayase) and i had to agree! Unfortunately, no thanks to my half-baked Japanese i could not understand a fair bit of the dialogue, like when she talked about the second meaning of the title as well as when she said she did not really want to go back to the island again, for some reason (i think she might have hurt herself in some way there or something).
And then comes the exciting time, the photoshoot! Row by row, the audience had the chance to go up and shoot all they like for one minute while she did all her poses. (my favourite is still the "heart" pose) When my turn came, I immediately shot as though my life depended on it, but my @#%%^ camara was still in virtual slumber mode and hence there was a few times when she looked at me but I was unable to take a shot due to the lag time, argh!!! And unfortunately, I only remembered to actually to do a close up in the last few seconds and wasn't able to take a proper half-shot...... T_T one minute was just too fast.

The third part, and the highlight of the event for everyone naturally, was at the end, when everyone gets to shake hand/talk to/take a pic with Meguru. As with most idol events, buying multiple copies enables you to a privilege. In her case, 2 copies got you a polaroid shot of her and 3 copies got you a pola with her. Which is virtual robbery as you could get a pola with most idols just by buying 2 copies, but I guess they wanted to milk her popularity for all it's worth... being the baka that I am, I happily bought 3 copies, spending 10000++ yen in the process just to get that precious twin shot.
But for all the money spent, i reasoned that at least I got something good in return, because as she had previously announced on her blog she turned up with a Valentine's Day gift for everybody! Home-made chocolates for all, as it turned out, and she got a whole basketful. Horror of horrors though, there were so many people attending the event that she said that she wasn't sure if she had enough chocolates for all -she made just 140 little packets or so-!!!!

What's worse, because i bought 3 DVDs i was at the end of the queue. The people who bought one got to go first to shake hands and get their signed DVD jacket (everyone gets one of those), followed by those who bought two who get an additional pola (she took those on the spot). By the time it got to the 3-ers, there were only 30 odd(?) people left and i was among those at the back, so i was really fearful, but luckily as it turned out she had just enough for everyone.
From my observations of the people before me, it seemed that you could choose what pose you would like to take with her as you sat on the chair. Most used the peace sign but one or two crafty buggers asked for the "heart" instead.... ah hah! That would show my undying fandom all right.... (lol) When it came to my turn, she actually prepared the "peace" again so I had to encourage her by holding my half-heart out first... slightly surprising her.... her part of the shot turned out well but I spoiled the picture by not only being non-photogenic (can't be helped) but by somehow not looking at the camara as well!!!!!! *bashes head into wall* blame it on my nervousness....
After i got my picture taken, i got to shake her hands and present her with my gifts which I carted all the way from home.... including one merlion soft toy (I am from Singapore after all) and also that of her favourite animal, the capibara which i bought from the famous Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido (pix below, capibara on the right, danpa on the left), a little key chain as well as photos of Hokkaido's ice capibara and of course my precious fan mail.

As there were still people waiting, I didn't get to talk long to her, except to tell her that I'm from Singapore and how I loved the dorama, Shinrei Tantei Yakaumo, the only one which she starred in so far, so much. Besides, I was so nervous i was positively stammering. Thank god I wrote all the important stuff in the fan mail... Of course, i got her pack of home-made chocolate as well, and i certainly didn't forget to collect my pola and signed jackets.

And the event was over just like that. just about over a hour, too fast if you asked me, but it was possibly the best/most unforgettable experience of my life. She had a second event later that week with a few others to promote the release of the Keitai Shojo series but unfortunately much as i want to i could not attend that one, since my boss could most certainly sack me if I extended my vacation by another week during the busy period!
Epilogue: When I went back to my hotel, i ate one of the chocolates and it was delicious, as she actually put cornflakes into them so it was crunchy. If it is really homemade as claimed, her Valentine will be really lucky to have her. Unfortunately, it was exactly the cornflakes bit that tricked me into thinking that it was actually a cookie, so the second one melted when I neglected to put it into the fridge...... T_T Wanted to save it for later.
And...... most excitingly of all...... she actually sent me a handwritten letter a few weeks later.... all the way to my home!!!! Thanking me for my gifts and for religiously reading her blog daily -- not a chore as she is an excellent writer unlike most other idols-- Although she is just a minor idol in the entertainment scene but I am sure not every one bothers to send mail to fans, and those from other countries to boot. From her fan BBS, i do know that she sends handwritten mail to fans and even a birthday gift to a female fan!! I have to respect her for the fact that she really does treasures her fans to this extent, and i certainly don't regret being hers. In fact, her birthday is coming next week and I already have a present for her.... (first time I am actually sending a present to an idol) ... I think she deserves anything that she can get and hopefully more success in the future, especially for a dream of being a successful actress.

Epic report, dude! Sounds like had one helluva experience. I gotta admit that before reading your story I thought that Meguru was just another pretty gravure idol but she seems like a genuinely sweet girl :)

Also, I'll be going for her last release events in Akiba next month! There's no way I can miss that, at the very least I have to thank her for featuring the capybara toy I gave her in her last DVD (Dokki!Mentary). (Proof below! You can see the picture of my capybara toy in my previous event report too) She actually mentioned in the DVD that it was a gift from a fan so it would almost certainly be me... Not many fans can have their gifts treated with such regard, i would think! And i'm so glad that she really liked it, she was impressed by the likeness...

I'll definitely write a report on that as well when I get back, or maybe the question is if I get back, since I probably have to blow a lot of $$$ buying the same DVD 5 times... (once from Amazon, twice for each event that I plan to attend)... I just hope I can get the event tickets because I don't plan to get to Japan before Jan 10 and the events are on Jan 12 and there is no way to get the tickets from anywhere except the Akiba stores.

Retiring from the gravure world, I'm afraid... :( It's likely that her new aim is to "make it" as a serious actress as she had said before many times that acting was her ambition, and she probably feels that it might be harder to be taken as a serious actress if she still did gravure. (after all the other top actresses like Masami Nagasawa and Erika Toda also gave up gravure work once they became popular)

LOL I should say that all fans should have an idol like her that takes care of her fans so well! She's the only one I know (other than her sister) who actually organises Q&A sessions on her blog once in a while to answer questions from all her fans.

For sure, I hope I can produce another one, i am still worried that I will not be able to get a ticket for the events. (what will I do with my gifts this time then? Hand-deliver to her management office I guess?) Fingers crossed!

Talento and gravure idol Meguru Ishii (23) announced in her blog on December 31 that she is retiring from show business. At the same time, she revealed that she is getting married to a man not in show business, who is three years older than her. Ishii made her debut as a gravure idol in 2004. She also began acting in minor roles in television, film, and theater in 2005. However, she has had very little work since 2008, and during the past two years she decided to leave show business. Ishii is the older sister of Koune Nakazawa (21), another gravure idol managed by the same agency.
