Many of us get AKB48 goods through auctions, whether it's from eBay or Yahoo Japan, so it might be worthwhile discussing.
There is one rule: do NOT post links to live auctions!
What can we talk about?
- For bidding on yahoo auctions you need a deputy service. How do they work? Which ones exist? Do you have good/bad experiences with these? etc.
- Funny auctions
- Items which sold for insane amounts
- Bootleg items; want to bid on something, but not sure it is legit? Post a pic and we'll find out together.
--------------------
I'll get the ball rolling.
Some sellers provide a direct translation of the item, which is pretty funny. For example:
Corridor running team - Dash first love (http://cgi.ebay.com/CORRIDOR-RUNNING-TEAM-AKB48-DASH-FIRST-LOVE-CD-DVD-/110600295561?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item19c04a9489)
Another example is the "10 years cherry" (10nen Zakura) which you'll see from time to time.
-
On eBay there was a guy selling Heavy Rotations pictures and listed Lovetan as TADA AIKA.
I lol-ed and had a flash back to one of the early AKB48 1ji 59fun (or 0ji 59fun?) where they accidentally called her Tada XD
- Items which sold for insane amounts
The damn Amina bearbrick that had a starting price of $80 and then $60 + s&h on eBay.
-
- Items which sold for insane amounts
I saw this Beginner photo of Takajo Aki on ebay which ended up being sold for $60.

I have a question for those who use auction services. Are the prices going on eBay (Beginner senbatsu photos at a starting price of $20 and UG/Theater girls starting at $10) reasonable when you take into account deputy fees and s&h? And is $60 for Akicha reasonable? o_o I'm just trying to see how much fees and shipping would be and if I should jump into the Yahoo auction spree haha
-
Personally for me, the prices going on eBay are way more affordable than using a deputy service which has killer fees and S&H. Some of the Beginner senbatsu photos on eBay like Tomochin, Takamina, Kojiharu, Mayuyu, Jurina and Rena are available for as low as $10, which is really reasonable. But $60 for Akicha is definitely way way overpriced... :panic:
-
^+1.
The extra fees and extra shipping is what makes Yahoo Auctions so expensive. For example, let's you can buy a theater pic for 400yen. That's cheaper than on eBay, but you'll most likely have to pay another 500 yen to the deputy service, you have to pay shipping from the seller to the deputy service and from the deputy to you. So in the end you'll have paid much more than on eBay.
It's just a matter of keeping your eyes open. Yahoo Auctions have a larger selection than eBay, no doubt about that. But if a cool item appears on eBay, I'd try to get it of eBay.
I'd only use Yahoo auction if i wanted something really specific or maybe some signed pics or something like that.
-
This amuses me: two packs of theater cds, a 4 pack and a 5 pack which includes river.
First of all, the theater cds can be found pretty cheaply (around $5 and maybe a bit more for the recent ones). So even if you buy all 5 the singles separately, there's no way you'd have to spend $54.00.
Secondly, these auctions ran at the same time. Why did the 5 pack go for so much more than the 4 pack?! I don't get it. Didn't they see the 4 pack? Didn't they realize they could've picked up a copy of River separately anyway?

A reason why I love eBay; great deals are to be had. You gotta be patient and pay attention. For example:
These auctions for a set of Acchan cards ended with only two weeks or so between them.
Both auctions came from sellers with excellent feedback... so why did one go for so much and the other for so little money? We'll never know!
FYI, my Acchan cards are still available (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=23960.msg777207#msg777207)

Overpriced:

It's been discounted to $420. :ph43r:
Another factor to deal with (unless you buy items of unpopular members only) are multiple auction time extensions that add to the already existing unpredictability of YAJ.
-
(http://picroda.jphip.com/akb48/t/jphip57171.jpg) (http://picroda.jphip.com/akb48/jphip57171.jpg)
I wonder how much it will go for... :panic:
-
The automatic extension in YJA is really ingenious imo. Basically, what happens is that if you place a bid when <10min remains on the auction, it will automaticlaly extend the duration back to 10min. This pretty much makes it really beneficial for the seller, if his item is in high demand. It’s a good strategy to keep sellers happy, but it’s really really really fucking annoying whenn you’re trying to win something and some Japanese guy with deep pockets decides to fuck with you, beating your bid by 100yen every time. Know someone who paid 3k for one photo. Was lulz.

65 bids, 22,000 yen :panic: (almost 200 euro / 270 usd)
-
is that W Matsui? Damn, they got some steep pockets
-
(http://picroda.jphip.com/akb48/jphip59612.jpg)
Even after all these years it still amazes me someone would pay 35 usd (inc shipping) for one pic.
-
^ that pic cost max 8-10 usd with delivery on yahoo japan auctions LAWL
-
Makes me think about how much I could make selling my full sakura no ki set on ebay ....although the lesser members will probably never get sold

This set of 10 Tomochin costume cards just sold for...
...19000 yen / $231 / 168 euro!
I gotta admit that's a little bit more than expected. Probably because it's a complete set of 'regular' costume cards.
-
There is a set of 27 SKE48 costume cards with a buy it now of 100,000 yen / ~875 euro / ~ $1235
(http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/1219/takayo10012000img600x33.th.jpg) (http://img694.imageshack.us/i/takayo10012000img600x33.jpg/)
It's not even a complete set!
-
^ be honest girls never wore that, it's just pieces of cloth from chinese textile fabric :nervous
-
They wore it, but for like 1 minute to take the picture for the card
In addition to the picture, the girls also decorated the shirts. You can see pieces of their drawings in the costume bits in the cards.
A lot of people question if these costume cards are genuine. I'm convinced that that they are real.
1. The clothes are specially selected for a certain photoshoot. I mean, it's not their actual stage/concert outfits or their personal clothes, so it's expendable. In some cases they re-use the photo's for the card collection, a PB, DVD and sometimes even a calendar... it's not like cutting up a couple of dresses is a big expense. In other words, they have no reason to fake it.
2. If it ever got out these things aren't real it would destroy the market. They would be stupid to take such a big risk.
-
As of posting Acchan Oogoe theater photo at 30000 yen :(

^Seems it 'only' went up another 1000 yen. That's $380 well spent!
-

---------
My first transaction with From Japan has been completed and I just want to give them my thumbsup.
- Super easy to use
- Fair prices/fees
- Good communication
I opted for SAL shipping, which is the cheapest and slowest method available... They shipped the package on the 5th and it arrived today. Only four days! With SAL!! Truly amazing.
Pics of the goods soon/tomorrow.
-
^ what about bank transfer fee, it is 168 yen for each item. For example you can buy 100 yen item and it will cost 100+5(from japan fee)+168(bank transfer fee)+80(the most cheaper delivery to deputy)=353 yen
168/353=0.47 (47% of cost)
Yeah, thera are some ways buying shit from one seller, but it's hard/impossible to find all stuff from one seller
-
Can I ask how FromJapan will declare values of items in custom declaration form? Will they declare the actual value or lower the value?
-
^I'm not 100% sure, but IIRC they can mark it as a gift.

CDJapan also offers a shopping service now: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/request/shopping.html (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/request/shopping.html)

Perfect example of why eBay is awesome. Two auctions from different seller, both selling a complete set of Flying Get bonus pictures.
More than a 300 usd difference in the final selling price! LMAO.
That means one buyer HUGELY overpaid or that the other buyer got a GREAT deal XD
-
This thread is really just a way for you to pad your postcount, isn't it?
If that bottom auction is just the senbatsu, then it isn't actually complete. But it is a great deal.
-
^No, that's just one pic. The auction did include all 40 pics!
and hey, I can't help it if people don't see the magic and fun of auctions yet :P

Stolen AKB48 stage costume appears in online auction; police investigating
A stage costume worn by Yuki Kashiwagi, a member of the all-girl pop group AKB48, was stolen from storage at the group's production company and put up for sale online, it has been learned.
The company, AKS, has submitted a theft report to police, and the Metropolitan Police Department's youth crime division is investigating.
According to the division, an AKS employee noticed in November last year that the costume had appeared in an online auction. The employee won the auction with a 300,000 yen bid, and confirmed that the costume was genuine.
The costume had been put up for auction by a 17-year-old high school student in Shiga Prefecture, who claimed that he had purchased it over the Internet.
"I put it on sale without knowing it was stolen," the teenager was quoted as saying. Investigators are now attempting to trace how the costume came to be in the boy's possession."
