Asian man boards plane disguised as old white man

An Asian male disguised himself as an elderly white man using a silicone mask and successfully board a flight from Hong Kong to Canada.
The unnamed man boarded the Vancouver-bound flight on October 29. At some point during the flight, he went into the bathroom and took his mask off, emerging as the young, Asian man.
Authorities said they were tipped off by the man’s hands, which looked too young compared to the rest of him.
At first he reportedly denied the Mission Impossible-style disguise, before admitting the ruse while being questioned. He left two carry-on bags on the plane, one of which contained the mask, described as “a silicone-type head and neck mask of an elderly Caucasian male”. He has subsequently claimed refugee status in Canada.
The Canada Border Services Agency said: “The subject donned the 'disguise' for Border Services Officers and they noted that he very much resembled an elderly Caucasian man, complete with mimicking the movements of an elderly person
“The subject admitted at this time that he had boarded the flight with the mask on and had removed it several hours later.”
The statement added that the man had swapped boarding passes with a 55-year-old US citizen before getting on the plane, later using a frequent flier card as ID to board the flight. somehow, what disturbs me is, he actually went through all this XD

What I haven't heard is "Why"? Sure he was seekign refugee status, but what exactly was stopping him from using his own identity?

Well, the whole reason for seeking refugee status in another country is to escape from persecution from one's home country (usually from a government or from a military group). Chances are he's already in some type of trouble with the Hong Kong/Chinese authorities, which likely means that his identity has been given to any port of exit that he might use to flee the country. If he had used his own identity, the airport authorities would have gotten an alert as soon as his name was input into their computers, which would then alert their security (as well as police/military/government forces) to the fact that he was trying to escape. He then would have been taken into custody, which likely would have ended up being bad for him.
Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if we in the west never get/hear an explanation as to why he was trying to flee China. At most, we'll probably just get some government stooge making a statement about the kid being part of some sort of revolutionary group and/or that he was trying to incite riots or something.

my 'why?' question here is 'why did he take his disguise off in the plane?'

Indeed, he would have been extremely naive if he thought that people (particularly the ones beside whom he was sitting) on the place wouldn't notice.

i wish to do that someday!
