The return of MINT excites me, and while I'd like to hope that a few NMB girls will join the AKB party for a while, I think it's too early.
Looking forward to seeing how this one plays out. AKB has a lot to live up to after 2010 was so damn epic, single-wise. :)

AKB48 reveals details on their upcoming single
AKB48 will be releasing a new single “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” on February 16th, and the details for the upcoming single have been revealed recently. As we reported yesterday, “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” will be used as a main theme song for the short drama series “Sakura Kara no Tegami~AKB48 Sorezore no Sotsugyou Monogatari~“, which all AKB48 members make appearance. The show will air from February 26th to March 6th.
The new single will be released as three different types, “Regular Edition Type-A”, “Regular Edition Type-B” and “Theatrical Edition.” Check out the track lists for each type!

I'm guessing they're making more than one MINT and DIVA song so that they can perform more in concerts as a unit~ :P Rather than them just being "That unit Mint/Diva who did that one song on that one single" :lol: I wonder if perhaps in future they will become a semi permenant unit and maybe have their own single/album...? :D;

Just the right colour scheme that I have a soft spot for and the subtle filter over the top is lovely~~ ; u ;

I quite like the text personally- though it confused me for a second as I started reading and couldn't see the B! :lol:
The odd sized font and weird placement makes me think of sakura blossoms and spring/summer breeze though... :P I guess it looks a little messy and hard to read but at the end of the day- AKB48 have been topping the charts all through 2010- people won't have too hard a time understanding that it's them!~

the only thing they need to fix is the A K B 48 in script... sure its a nice typeface...
but i'd say use the damn AKB48 logo, the logo is known, the logo is good, its part of the brand..
but oh well, these are idol singles though, not an ikea catalog.
the most interesting thing is how they made everyone have the same skin tone :P

Awesome PV! I dig AKB PVs with storylines. The song is pretty nice too especially for a "boring" song. Anyways I wish they would have showed them other girls too. The PV is fucking 6 minutes long and it's all about Jurina, Acchan, Takamina, Tomochin, Haruna & Yuko. It's weird that some super popular girls like Mayu & Mariko got like no screentime :huhuh

I love the AKB PV's with epic storylines (Sakura no Hanabiratachi 2008, 10nen Zakura, even Keibetsu Shiteita Aijou to some extent)
Compared to those heavy hitters (one of which almost makes me cry every time), this is decent. I'm looking forward to the full drama version so I have some more background and it has a bit more of an oomph.

EDIT: I just rewatched it and it's more powerful the second time.
Especially noticing that in the first group shot in the chairs under the tree, there is an empty chair.
Then, after they've made Jurina part of the "eternal sakura tree" (I think that's what the lyrics say...), they go to another group shot and Jurina is now sitting in the empty chair ;_;

This year's 'Sakura song' doesn't disappoint, tears welling up again!! (I'm such a big softie).
The cherry blossom petals in my garden will have a special significance for me this year, as it will be the first time since my introduction to AKB48. I'll be able to look out of the window and think of the girls :)

Anyone heard anything about the difference between the Limited editions and the normal editions?? For Beginner, I remember it was just the difference of covers and an event ticket or something similar?? Gah- I'm waiting for Yesasia to get a copy of UTB in stock and ship my order ASAP so I can preorder BOTH the limited editions... I've decided to do that as I realised in afew months I can always buy the other versions cheaply on ebay, whereas the limiteds with be going up in price once they sell out... also- if I happen to find I don't like the tracks on one version or don't care for the dvd I can always leave it sealed which would also protect value and sell it on later~ :P

D: In my opinion Diva's pv and the song really don't go together right-- perhaps with a more rock/badass song it would work or if the pv was more disco-y (C-ute's Dance de Bankoon XD; ) or just in some sort of club or disco rather than this hardcore underground place with tatoos and angry people! :panic:
Sakura no Ki ni Narou however, is lovely~ I'm glad there's another version with closeups and allowing the other members to get some screen time! :P Perhaps the DVD will have a couple of versions of the pv- a bit like Beginner with the dance versions but the different pvs...
Also, am I the only one who thinks "JPHIIIIP!!" during some of the sakura petal tear close ups?? :w00t:

I really liked MINT song, it s fucking awesome! Acchan's, Moeno's and Matsui Sakiko's lines are great, I mean manner of singing it. Their voices fit very good in it!
P.S. 19 is unlucky number for japanese, so forget 19th shit and begin to enjoy next good single after Beginner.

AKB48′s “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” achieves 6th highest first-week sales in history

Oricon has announced the official weekly sales total for AKB48’s 20th single, “Sakura no Ki ni Narou.” After starting off with a record-setting first day, the single has sold approximately 942,000 copies to achieve the 6th highest first-week sales in history.
The last single to sell more than 900,000 copies in the first week was Utada Hikaru’s “Addicted to You” in 1999, which sold 1.068 million copies. This means that AKB48 is the only artist to reach that level since the turn of the century. Among female artists, the next closest single is Amuro Namie’s “Can You Celebrate?” (1997), which moved 828,000 copies in its first week, though AKB48′s “Beginner” came close last year at 827,000.
Oricon began tracking weekly sales data for singles in January 1968. The only singles that have performed better than “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” are:
1. “Namonaki Uta” – Mr.Children – 1,208,000
2. “Addicted to You” – Utada Hikaru – 1,068,000
3. “Dango 3 Kyoudai” – Hayami Kentaro, Shigemori Ayumi, Himawari Kids & Dango Gasshoudan – 1,026,000
4. “Winter, again” – GLAY – 956,000
5. “LOVE PHANTOM” – B'z – 951,000
With “Sakura no Ki ni Narou,” AKB48 has achieved a streak of seven #1 singles. They are only the second female group to do so, after Pink Lady in 1978.

'Sakuranoki Ni Narô' gets 575.000 points and that's an alltime high for a no.2 hit! By the way, exactly 10 years ago, another J-pop star, Hikaru Utada, started at no.1 with 'Can You Keep A Secret' and sold 784.000 singles in its first week at retail. And 20 years and a week ago Kazumasa Oda's 'Oh! Yeah!' was the first J-pop song ever, which reach no.1 on the global chart (741.000 singles).

Does anyone know where I can find the 'C2' version of the Guuzen no Juujiro PV? I can't download the one that is on YouTube :( I was SO disappointed that the version on the DVD was the one where the boys seem to get more screentime. What's with that? The C2 is much better, and I actually get to see my two Oshimen, Harugon and Kuumin :D As an aside... does anyone have any pictures of Harugon and Kuumin together?
