A couple things I've noticed:

When she's nervous, she seems to pinch her lips between the backs of her fingers.
Cute little habit that can be seen in the video I posted above when she's with the vocal teacher.
Also, she needs some work fully extending her limbs when she dances.
I think that's what's causing most of the slightly awkward look she has in the dancing parts.
Kinda similar to the problems Koharu had at the beginning when she couldn't quite relax her limbs enough.

I like her. She's the only 9th gen (so far as we know) who wasn't in showbiz before joining Morning Musume, so she'll have much more ground to cover than the others. But I hope she turns the pressure into motivation and shines as bright as she can.
She's also (remarkably) one of the only H!Pers ever to come from Aichi (Nagoya), one of the most populous regions in Japan. Lately I'm loving another dreamy Nagoya-lady *ah (http://ameblo.jp/kitahara-rie/)em*, so this makes me a little happy. She could just as easily gone to SKE, but she picked Morning Musume (or so I'd like to think).

^ Hey Philo! Long time no see. :) Though I'm sure you wouldn't recognize me here lol (if you'd even recognize me as iluvatarin on JPM lol). I actually felt like I was trying to follow your path for a long while as far as nihongo goes, and while I might have gone a ways I'm not sure I've fully succeeded yet. >.>
Anyway, on topic.
Having studied abroad at a university in Nagoya, I feel a connection with Aichi also as kind of my Japanese "furusato". Therefore I was also excited to see SuzuKan, as I've tentatively started calling her to avoid confusion, was the first MM member from Aichi. :) I hope she brings some good Nagoya-ben and tebasaki with her to the group!!

It's ok If Kanon compares herself to Gaki but I hope she understands how much hard work she had to go through to become such an amazing artist as she did. Right now I see nothing of that from Kanon. It's almost like she has given up. She's aware of her faults but don't work hard to fix them.

where was it that she said she comared herself to gaki? did you mean the comment that tsunku made about her dancing and how much potential she has to be at the same level as risa or eri? or that she has that "genki/reliable" type character that risa has?
remember zukki's only 13 yrs old, risa didnt turn into the great person we see now at that age. lately i've noticed alot of ppl have been saying that zukki seems to be down/not as happy as she was before 10th gen joined and to be honest maybe she's taking what ai had said in her graduation memorial to heart. she's still a growing kid and for all we know maybe she's trying to make herself more mature, expessially for this new single. i dont think she's given up at all. and how do we know that she's not working hard behind the scenes? just give her time.

We at MM-BBS have noticed that 9th generation member Suzuki Kanon doesn’t seem her usual cheerful self these days. To celebrate her awesomeness and hopefully bring a smile to her face, we’re organizing the Zukki Appreciation Project for her birthday. :greenheart:

We’d like to send Kanon a huge collage of birthday wishes from her overseas fans. :cake: Send us a photo of yourself holding up a sign wishing her a happy birthday or just telling her how awesome you think she is. Any short, positive message is fine. :piisu: We’ll make a big collage out of all of the photos and send them to her in time for her birthday on August 5th.
How to Send in Your Photo:
- Make a sign. It can be in any language you want, as long as it says something supportive. (Suggestions: Happy Birthday Kanon-chan, To my favorite member, To my favorite 9th gen member, You’re the best, We love you, etc.)

It's kinda weird tho, Eripon's bd is today and I didn't do anything even if she's my fav member. Zukki's my least favourite of 9th gen, and I'm considering doing this just because she hasn't been cheerful. :lol:
To be fair, I've been thinking of doing a package to 9ki/10ki for a while, but I haven't been able to go shopping for the things I'd like to send for months, and I have a specific idea of what I want to send, so... :/ Also this talking about member colours changing is fucking it up even more cuz I was going to work with that. Oh well. I'm just thinking aloud now. lol

I'm not too worried about her...I mean, of course I'm concerned if she isn't 100% herself, but at age 13 and facing the absurd amount of work everyone's been doing to promote the latest single it's no surprise that she might feel a bit overwhelmed by everything that's going on. I think she's simply tired.
No matter what's going on with her, it's good to see people organizing projects to lift her spirits. If she is indeed feeling down then it's a good way to help her get back into things; if she's actually fine then hey, bonus present for her birthday! Plus it seems like she gets the least amount of hype and promotion out of the 9th gen girls so it's a good way to create some international buzz for her.

My favorite of all the new H!P girls, with that cute smile, rich voice, and overall silly randomness; as soon as I saw her pulling that telephone skit in the auditions I knew who I wanted to win (besides the obviously talented Riho :P ). She still has a lot of work to do regarding music performance ability, but the potential for major improvement is still there, so as long as she keeps at it we can look forward to a bright future for her.
The whole Zukki Appreciation Project thingy has been completed and sent off (http://blog-project.net/news/66332), so hopefully she'll be able to see it and realize how much support she has all over the world. I couldn't help noticing that she seems to be the least popular/promoted of the new MM girls--even her threads here and at other forums seem to have the least amount of pages out of the 9kis--and this would be a nice way to bounce back from that notion. Plus with her being noticeably chubbier than the rest of the girls it's important that she doesn't feel pressured to do anything drastic at such a key time in her life.
Also, I really hope Momusu is done with all the member color changes now! XD I kinda like how my favorite current member has been assigned my favorite color.

It's been great to see her bright smile return this year, and I love how prominent her voice is becoming, such as on the new single--it's like she doesn't even need solo lines when she can just sing over everyone else! :P She's also been really cute on the recent Hello Station episodes...hopefully management continues to show faith in her, and that she can somehow bring back some of that wacky energy from her rookie year; still a lot of potential to be filled.
I'm also looking forward to clips of the birthday event; more specifically, I wanna see video of those game corner MCs--I can only imagine how fun they could be with just the green team.

Kanon's getting her own radio show starting in December!
Along with her increased TV presence, it's great to see her profile raise this year, especially after concerns over her perceived demeanor and mood in 2012. I remember reading an analysis by some comedian who said 2014 was gonna be her breakout year, and so far it's been spot on...but here's to hoping 2015 will be even better for her! (said comedian also compared her to Ai Shinozaki...I think that one needs to wait a few more years :P )
Also, regarding the one Zukki fan who said "I love her because she has the same figure as me": that person has spoken up and clarified that the quote was taken out of context (http://www.hello-online.org/index.php?/topic/20970-suzuki-kanon-鈴木香音/?p=1817053), most likely in order to play up the "pocchari idol" role Zukki has been rolling along with.

Morning Musume '14's Suzuki Kanon & Sato Masaki suffer injuries during practice
December 29, 2014
On December 29, it was announced on Morning Musume '14 official blog that member Suzuki Kanon (16) sprained her left ankle during practice, and she was diagnosed with ligament rupture which will take 6 weeks to heal.
Fellow member Sato Masaki (15) also felt pain in her right knee, and was diagnosed with a mild sprain.
Because of that, Suzuki will not be able to participate in "Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2014 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~" which will be held on the 31st, and Sato will be participating only for the singing part.
Additionally, Suzuki will also cancel her appearances in "Hello! Project 2015 WINTER ~DANCE MODE!~/ ~HAPPY EMOTION!~" (to begin on January 2) for a while in order to concentrate on treatment. Sato, on the other hand, will appear both for singing and performing after consulting with a doctor.

Six weeks, though...this means she'll be missing out on most of the H!P winter tour and a good portion of the next single's promotion! :( Huge setback for the momentum she looked to be carrying into the new year.
With Maachan also hurt, and Sayu struggling at her grad concert, gotta wonder if management will ever reconsider the type of shoes these girls use for their performances.

What you can do for the scrapbook:
- Email pictures of your holding a sign with a message (We will of course hide your faces when we reveal what the final scrapbook looks like, but if you feel uncomfortable with Zukki-chan seeing your face you don’t need to.)
- Email pictures of yourself with concert goods or CDs (preferably with her photo card if you have it.)
- Sending fan art pictures/scans via email if possible.
- Or draw fan art and send them directly to my address. We are working on this, either way you will have to email us more information if you are planning to send fanart or something handwritten to the person responsible of doing the scrapbook..
- Something else that can work in a scrapbook, please email us about your idea first in that case.
If you want to do more than one thing then you can, such as fan art + a picture of yourself holding message for her. If you want to send a picture of a just a handwritten message or have a lot of goods you want to show off, then you can do so too.
Things you need to include in your submission:
- Name: the name can be stated in your artwork/picture or at the end of your submission. Zukki just needs to be able to see who it is from. You can use your nickname if you don’t want your real name to be stated.
- Country: I will write the country name close to submission, using a color from your country’s flag.
- (Optional) Words: If people want to they can also include a word/sentence such as “Hola,” “Danke,” “You are the best” in their email. We will spread out the words on the pages like the old project did. If writing in another language, please tell me the translation of what you said so we can make sure it is not a mean comment. Also please use a language with letters we can write. Arabic, Chinese and so on would be impossible for me to write correctly! That sadly also includes Japanese. If you use words in those languages I will in that case have to print them and paste onto a page.
I regret not posting about this sooner, but the pending graduation has had me sad and frustrated, and I was hoping my next post in this thread would've been a long overdue gushing about her. But hey, even if you're too late to submit something, it would still be nice to see more appreciation for her here and elsewhere online! Let's show Kanon some love!

Unlike Mizuki-chan who was born into the world of Hello! Project, the rest of us of 9th gen didn’t know anything and was able to meet her and learn so many things from her. Mizuki-chan constantly watches over & observes the members properly, where sometimes she will point out that “this girl/member has recently been…” She is also able to notice/observe things that I can’t. I guess that is what one would expect of our leader.
As for Erina-chan, we constantly talked during the times of the audition. In fact, I was really happy that I got to talk to someone that I didn’t know since it was rather scary at that time to talk to someone I didn’t know (lol). Since I came from the countryside which didn’t have many buildings, I initially felt that Tokyo was a rather scary place. My impression of her has always been that she is a lovely, neat & tidy girl. But I have realised that after talking to her for about 1-2 hours, that image of her being “neat & tidy” vanishes and gets replaced by “No! Instead, she’s a mischievous girl” (lol).
I initially thought that Riho-chan was a cyborg as from the start, she has always been able to do everything perfectly (lol). From dancing, to singing, to being able to talk with respect, and even to being able to eat beautifully. I really have always admired her. But being able to live with her, made me discover her huge goofy/funny side (lol). She really helped me out a lot especially with dancing. Riho-chan managed to teach me everything that I didn’t know. Since we have been through/faced so much in life together, we are able to trust/rely on each other. I am really so happy to be able to have this kind of special relationship/connection with her.
(Regarding graduation)
I can now say that when Riho-chan initially announced her graduation, I also began to feel and think about my graduation. I really cared & was worried about what was happening in Riho-chan’s life, so I bombarded her with so many questions regarding her graduation. Such as whether she was sure that what she was choosing/selecting will really give her the happiness for her future, whether she was worried or impatient, and whether she was worried about her future. But when she talked to me, she was so calm. She was determined and firm regarding her decision to go abroad to study. This made me think deeper about what I wanted to go towards for my own future.

Graduations are always a painful, awkward affair, especially when it's one of your favorites...but often it's a sad, bittersweet kind of pain.
Ai Takahashi's graduation and Berryz Kobo's breakup made me feel sad, but they had been in the company for 10 years each and led them strongly through tough times. Seeing Riho and Meimi leave their groups this year sucked and felt premature, but they're ace performers with bigger dreams in mind, so I was happy for them. Manakan's early departure is just sad all around, as there's nothing anyone could do about those kind of health issues.
Kanon Suzuki's graduation is probably the first one that left me feeling bitter and frustrated.
I know she wasn't the most popular in the group. She wasn't the best singer or dancer, and her personality mellowed out quickly after her first year. But damn, I still thought she deserved better treatment from management and general fans. Too many snide comments and criticisms about her weight (compare and contrast with the "poor Ayumin" jokes that were actually meant to be endearing to Ishida), getting essentially erased from the "Seishun Kozo" and "Yuugure" music videos instead of at least getting some non-dance close-up shots the way Karin did for "Ijiwaru", her weight rebound late last year that wasn't monitored...and now the Emotion in Motion DVD cover not even featuring a photo of her! :angry: WHAT IS THIS SHIT
Despite her shortcomings, she still had lots of unfulfilled potential and flashes of brilliance. She had a strong voice that, given a bit more control and appropriate notes, could have rivaled the best H!P singers at times...I especially loved how she essentially didn't even need solo lines on singles, because she could easily be heard singing over the others! And, as corroborated by other members, I can say from first hand experience that her smile really does have healing powers! I was pretty much struck stupid when I saw her coming out of arrivals at the JFK Airport in 2014 (and on that note, how awesome was it that she was the first one to come out that day). There's a reason why I tagged her as the Medic when I compared Morning Musume '13 to Team Fortress 2 classes (https://crazyhpblog.wordpress.com/2013/08/31/tf2-the-morning-musume-update)! (anyone who wanted to tag her as the Heavy needed to do a better job knowing her and her group, dammit)
And really, in an industry full of stick-thin waifs, her extra weight could've been flipped and leveraged as an alternative selling point (instead of the variety show "pocchari" joke target)! She was one of the more well-endowed members of Momusu, almost comparable to bombshell Fukuchan, and could've been the next Ai Shinozaki had she stuck around a bit longer. Of course, I did enjoy seeing her slim down last year, because she did look incredibly beautiful in a downsized form when "Oh My Wish!" came around...

Admittedly, it was mainly first impressions in 2011 that kept me loyal to her over the years. The telephone skit during the 9th gen auditions, the silly impressions and ponytail goofiness, getting assigned my favorite color as her member color, it seemed like a natural choice to follow her. Plus her early penchant for smallness gave me something to relate to: the bug impressions, her Pocket Morning answer saying she'd enjoy being tiny (http://www.hello-online.org/index.php?app=helloapp&CODE=article&topic=1597), and the fairy photoshoot she had for Hello! Also admittedly, part of my frustration is with myself too, as I know I could've been more active with following her performances and radio show and stuff. I even whipped up a drawing in Houston (commemorating my two favorite moments of hers) with plans to give it to her directly, but awkwardness and sleep deprivation complicated things. :( Hopefully she still got to see it in the last fanwork collection album submitted to UFA (or even if she's lurking online).

Whether she really did want to quit to pursue social work goals, or was simply frustrated with idol life and wanted out...whatever the truth is, I hope she's happy now and taking it easy at her own pace. She deserved better, but I'm glad to have seen her part of Morning Musume, and glad that I at least got to see and meet her in person twice. お疲れ様でした、香音ちゃん！
