Notice Regarding Morning Musume Takahashi Ai Graduation
During January 9th's concert at Nakano Sun Plaza, 5th generation member Takahashi Ai announced that she will graduate from Morning Musume and Hello! Project during this autumn's Morning Musume tour.
Around the time of 6th generation member Kamei Eri's request to graduate to focus on the treatment of her physical condition, I gave Takahashi Ai the advice, "It would be good to think in advance about the timing of your graduation and your future plans."
It will be 10 years since the 5th generation entered Morning Musume.
Takahashi Ai will have spent 3 years, 7 months as the 6th leader of the group.
This makes Takahashi Ai the longest-enrolled member as well as longest-serving leader of Morning Musume.
Looking back, I feel that she has truly performed admirably in her long duties.
(In fact among the other graduated members and former leaders, she is the probably the first that comes to mind... but I digress.)
Therefore, after discussing the matter with her, considering her activities afterward, and this month's earlier announcements, it was decided to announce her graduation during Morning Musume's fall tour.
Though it has been not more than half a year since I last advised her, from now until the time the 9th generation members become familiar with Morning Musume's songs, learn their dances, and become comfortable in their roles as members, it appears much will be expected of their reliable leader.
Please cherish her remaining time in Morning Musume!
After Takahashi Ai's graduation, she will continue to be involved in music and theater activities, the details of which will be gradually announced.
Thus after Takahashi Ai's graduation, fellow 5th generation member Niigaki Risa will inherit the role of leader, as well as the title of longest-enrolled member.

Takahashi Ai's comment:
I, Takahashi Ai, will graduate from Morning Musume as well as Hello! Project during this year's Morning Musume fall concert tour.
When the graduations of Kamei Eri, Junjun, and Linlin were decided, Tsunku-san said to me, "Takahashi, the timing of your own graduation is all up to you!"
So I considered it.
Since this August will mark the 10th year since I entered Morning Musume and right afterward would be Morning Musume's fall tour, I thought it would be nice to graduate then.
Even though I will graduate in around 9 months, until then I will do my best as leader to turn this re-formed Morning Musume into a reliable unit.
In order to give the just-joined 9th generation members a sense of love and affection, I feel that there are many things I would like to tell them, so everyone please rest assured.
rokun was kind enough to translate the comments from various MM members blogs:
The message from Sayu's blog (posted by icey pg. 1):
Announcement
Today's first concert is over!
There was an announcement at the live just now,
Morning Musume leader Takahashi Ai-chan,
at this fall's Morning Musume tour,
will graduate from Morning Musume and Hello! Project.
Because 9th generation members have just joined,
it's too quick, and Sayumi too when she heard,
was surprised, or rather,
was hit by a bad feeling, or rather......
Was so very sad.
Everyone is leaving...
But Ai-chan decided it after talking with Tsunku-san and all the adults.
And also, because it's a big step for Ai-chan to make toward her dream,
I'll support her!
And although I say that, until graduation
we still have 9 months!!
Until then, New 9 member Morning Musume will do our best!
Now we have our second concert!
Morning Musume will do our best!
Also, from Reina's blog in a post she made just a bit ago:
Aichan, who announced her graduation
We ate cake together
When I heard about Ai-chan's graduation, I was really surprised.
Who will be the next leader!?
What'll happen, even though the new members just joined!?
What about High-King!?
.......Various things like that were going round and round in my head.
But it was the way Ai-chan decided for herself.
Let's all support her
Because there's still time!!
But time will pass before you know it.
When we're just spacing out, before we know it the graduation time will come.
Let's all make many fun memories together

I'm working on translating Tsunku and Aichan's comments as we speak. I'll post them when they're ready.
-
Just last week Sayu was freaking out that they'd announce a graduation and now look X___X
The last time there was a mass of graduations, one after another....things just did not go well for the group. You would think UFA would learn from this.
-
This even caught MY eye. Glad I jumped on the SNSD train back in 07, lol.
-
Can't really blame her o the decision. It's all over now.
-
Sad as it is, it might be the last hurrah of MM... I havent been to into them since koha's graduation, and then eri, jun, and lin just cemented it for me. I still love aika, im just not sure MM fits me anymore...
However its super quick.. especially since they just had a triple grad..
-
NO WAY~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
-
Tsunku, I fucking hate you! Goodbye Morning Musume...
-
End of an era. Feel sorry for Gaki though. All alone.
All I want is a guarantee that Aichan NOT graduate from producing photobooks.
That is all.
-
They should have so announced this later. I was all happy with the new 9th gen but now all I'll be thinking of is Ai chan's grad. Even if it's sometime off...I just can't be as excited for the new morning musume.....

THIS. I knew her time was coming to a close, and that this year would be appropriate to round out 10 years of service, but I don't like the timing of the news.
Her actual graduation isn't what's "too soon"...it's actually about time it happened. The announcement, however, is.

"After Kamei Eri's graduation announcement last year Takahashi was advised to think about her future plans and timing to graduate"
Brilliant job on rushing her Tsunku! She also won't be a part of H!P after she leaves.

That's why I'm so angry... I'd be more okay with it if Ai chan just woke up one morning and decided it might be time to think about graduating....but for Tsunku to tell her she should be thinking about it and then to later say that it's something she's decided....*shakes fist*
I'm also not happy with the whole graduating from both MM and h!p. I hate how MM girls automatically get graduated from both. It kind of shoots down my hopes of a solo career for Ai chan....
-
Ai and Risa appeared on a show several months ago (maybe even a couple of years ago?) with several of the graduates. The graduates all told stories about the old days, and then Ai and Risa were brought in to show the current and future hopes. Ai actually cried on the show, vowing to try her best to keep the legend alive. To me, Ai Takahashi is the legend, and her presence has always made any performance that she is a part of worth watching. She is irreplacable to Hello! Project, yet she will be the one cheering on everyone involved that the show must go on.

Sadly, idk how well it'll go for MM anymore. They've been put aside now since AKB is much much more popular. Ai held the group up. :(
-
It's kind of bittersweet, I'm surprised how sad I am that's she's leaving as she isn't one of my 2 remaining favorites, and I was really excited seeing how the new momusu line up would turn out with all the new girls coming in.
On the other hand, I'm really happy about Risa being leader next, but again, Aichan is her best friend, and like pops mentioned, I kind of expected takagaki to graduate as a pair, like aibon&nono did, so I'm really worried about Risa leaving now too because her heart won't be in it so much anymore with Aichan being gone.
I can sympathise with people saying SCREW MM and deciding to never pay attention to them again, seeing as Aichan was the only person left they cared about anymore.. but I'd rather no-one did that and continued to support the new line up, I know that's difficult and I know it comes as a blow to all the excitement of the new members joining, but she's not graduating NOWso she isn't actually gone~ because I do think they may surprise us a lot ^^;
-
....what a way to wake me up quickly  Gaki as a leader (but how long will she stay...?). I knew that she was in MM for the centuries and it's probably about the time for her to graduate... but still... why to announce it so soon after Kame and pandas :(
-
Even when Gaki becomes the leader...you know Gaki's time is running low too on Tsunku's watch.
I haven't been a fan of the people that drop the fandom all together once their favourite girl graduates but in all honesty I see myself heading towards that way. I've only truly cared about the gorokkies...and there are so few of them left once Ai chan leaves.
-
I really hate the timing. Just when we lose 3 members we're used to seeing and now have a glimmer of hope with the new-gen, they take out the glue of the current team.
I know... In the long-run one member leaving won't instantly kill the group (just like businesses). Fans have weak memories.
But why hurt us like this. Honestly, either do it on-the-spot after announcing the new members so it links. Or 2-3 months later when everything is stable.
Right now it's just awkward and sad.
Aichan...

Here's my just-finished translation of Tsunku's comments.
It seems like the early announcement of this sad news was intended to be tempered by the happy news of the 9th gen announcement.

Tsunku♂
Coming from the perspective of a long-term and loyal fan of Morning Musume, I always think that calling the graduation of any given member "the end of Morning Musume" is both short-sighted and missing the entire point of the group.
If you feel that the end of a given lineup is also the end of your being a fan, if I were you I'd question whether I was a fan of the group or only a fan of a particular member.
It's never been a secret that eventually all the members at any given time would graduate, and it's never been a secret that there would be new girls waiting for their opportunity to come in and become successful.
If you thought that any given lineup would be permanent, you were just deluding yourself.
As a fan of the group, part of the beauty and appeal of it is that it evolves over time and is not limited by the skills and capabilities of any one group of girls.
Having my two favorite initial members, Rika and Konkon, graduate soon after I became a fan, I initially questioned whether I could ever support other girls the same way I did them.
While my support of Konkon will remain a constant, I feel like my experience as a fan is widened and enriched by my acceptance and support of some of the newer girls.
I hope that those of you who feel like this is the end of your support for Morning Musume stick with them long enough to reach a similar conclusion.
-
PROPS SLACK!!
SRLSSLY cazazza who is gonna lead H!P???? Who the fuck does more than AIBUTT?? :tama-mad:
-
i'll be the first person to admit sir, i am a fan of the person, after all ,the person makes the group ..
-
I first got into the fandom many years back because I saw Takahashi and Eri on a clip from hello!morning. I had no idea that they were even in morning musume. So yes, I'm a fan of the girls. It's because I was a fan of the girls that I became a fan of the group. I'm not going to give up on them just because Ai chan graduates....but down the line when Gaki goes and Sayu and Reina...I can see myself not being as obsessed over them. Maybe 9th and 10th generation will catch my attention enough to stay interested, who knows...only time will tell. But in all honesty the girls come first for me.
-
Ok I'm actually kind of fine with this. She's 24 and graduating, I'm 25 and graduating (hopefully). If she's able to maintain a career post-grad like Rika, then I'll be fine. I hope she does take a direction closer to Rika and Yossi's than anyone else, since their direction has lead them to visiting countries abroad...
I refuse to join the "zomg end of Momusu" talk. I think this is similar to when Maki Goto graduated. People will think it's the end of the world, but really, it won't be. And heck they just put in 4 new girls.
I find it most outrageous when people who clearly haven't been caring for years come out of whichever fandom they're hiding in now for graduation announcements to say that MM is overrr. What the fuck do you care? Why the fuck should I even care about your opinion? You don't even KNOW the current Momusu. You don't know what they're capable of. So shut the fuck up, take a step back and return to your supposedly superior current fandom. Nobody missed you here.
Now I'm sorry about this burst of anger but I'm so sick of the fucking wah wah from people who aren't even FANS, people who don't really even CARE just taking advantage of the opportunity to once again say that MY FANDOM is somehow horribly flawed. It's NOT.

10 years is a long time to be doing anything, and to me it really seems like Aichan decided that 10 years is a good time to call it quits and move on. No one's stuck around this long, and though being an idol seems like a good way to start a career, by no means should it be mistaken for an entire career. There are so many things that idols can't do and still keep their jobs (like marriage, having kids, that kind of thing), so it's only natural to want to move beyond just being one.
I didn't want to imply that being a fan of a given girl is a weakness.
What I wanted to impart with my previous comments was that despite how you may feel about a certain member's graduation, the group will not die because of it.
Also, what Shi said.
-
hmmm .. really wanna see how MM turns out after her graduation.
she's been center for so long... but i guess it's not like it's impossible for others to take over her lines.
-
It's about time.
I was expecting Ai to graduate the past few years. I guess it was a matter of finding a replacement to take over her role in the group.
It'll be a good opportunity for Ai to move on and develop her career and skills even further. I hope she'll expand to other genres and maybe even dabble in stage or her dream of Takarazuka. She'll just need to grow a little taller. :P
And now the debate of going to Japan or not....
-
Owow I also think it's a terrible timing for the announcement but also for the graduation itself since the timing is actually good for people to prepare everything but yeah
the announcement ruins the new member excitement, at least for some time now. Better would have been graduation spring next year and announcement of it this summer~
Though I guess there is never really a perfect moment for a graduation announcement o/
I'm not really a fan of her in particular but it's always nice to see some of the older members around so I hope she stays in the business for longer and according to Tsunku she will
>After Takahashi Ai's graduation, she will continue to be involved in music and theater activities, the details of which will be gradually announced.
Sounds like she might even stay within the up-front group
-
Ai-chan, we'll miss you.
I know I said i'm gonna stop following them, but after thinking about it, I just can't.
Morning Musume, ganbatte kudasai! :mon yeah:
-
At least they announced it super early. :O2

I'd never want for MM to die or anything even remotely close to that. I have always been wishing for their success because I feel the girls deserve that after all their hard work and all the happiness they bring to people. Even if I ever stop being a fan I'd wish for thousands of new fans to take my place. But yes, all of this end of fandom stuff really is unnecessary...I've always been ticked off at people that say such things but today after Ai chan's announcement there was a moment where I was like Oh....so that's how those people felt. I know I'll regret ever mentioning it come the morning...but...just consider it a Risa moment if you will. Like what Risa said to Yossie during her graduation. It's fear, sadness and a whole bunch of other feelings doing the talking.
(and no, I'm not fearful over the future of morning musume...just fearful of my own heart.)
-
I'm taking this positively.
Girl has been there a LONG time, she'll have to move on eventually. She's talented enough that we'll still be seeing her doing a lot of things even after she graduates.
-
Totally agree with you Slack.
Wonder if Aichan will really start pursuing a theater career.
Other H!P members have had some success in that area, and she's easily has some of the best performances. Unlike MM, it could really turn into a life-long career.
-
^ Theatre might actually also make it easier for fans visiting Japan to see her live in a more intimate setting, since concert halls can be huge and the best seats are reserved for FC... Unless theatres have the same setting idk, but I'd find it weird especially if it wasn't a UF* play
There wouldn't really be much eye contact... But people who just want to see her live and enjoy her performance will be able to do that... Maybe, lol

It's about time.

Earlier when there was a poll about which of the girls auditioning would make 9th generation, I suggested that Producer pick all of the girls, so that the remaining gokkies and rokkies could get on with their retirment dreams:
What would the four oldest retirees do?
Ai- goes on to star with Takarazuka Revue- because of her height restrictions, she continually plays Napolean, no matter which play it is
Risa- Hosts her own show called "Reaction Queen" where guests are accidentally electrocuted, or drowned, or run over by a steam roller, and the camera constantly focuses on Risa, who reacts to each scene of carnage with shock, followed by laughs and giggles
Sayumi-Becomes an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas
Reina- joins a biker gang, becomes leader, travels to U.S. to see Sayumi's show, and jumps the Grand Canyon on her bike

Takahashi Ai's comment:
http://www.helloproject.com/news/1101091700_musume.html (http://www.helloproject.com/news/1101091700_musume.html)
Translation:
It has been decided that, I, Takahashi Ai, during Morning Musume's concert tour this Autumn,
will be graduating from Morning Musume and Hello! Project.
At the time when Kamei Eri, JunJun and LinLin's graduations were decided,
Tsunku-san told me, "It's about time Takahashi should think about your own graduation's timing!"
which has gotten me thinking.
I will have been in Morning Musume for 10 years comes this August,
So I thought it will be a good time! to graduate in the Autumn Morning Musume concert tour.
As there are still around 9 months left, I will do my best as leader until that time to shape up this new Morning Musume.
I will be affectionate to the newly added 9th generation members as I try to teach them various things, everyone please rest assured.
-
So long as Ai is still active, still out there in the public eye doing what she does best then I'm all for it and will support her completely. There is no doubt that I'll miss seeing her with MM as frequently, or Takagaki love as much. :( But MM will surely go on, with the awesomeness of the current girls plus the potential of 9th gen, so I'm not that concerned about them as a group.
I feel more positive now than I did when I first heard the news, fearing she might just be gone from showbiz completely. But it always initially sucks to see a member I really like graduate.
-
^ updated the first post with Slack's translation for easy access
Can't really blame her o the decision. It's all over now.
 :otomerika: End of an Era that's fo sho
And now the debate of going to Japan or not....
DO IT FEN!!!!
Like I was talking to Mugen and Ops, we make this giant AIBUTT in the audience like those Swedish hockey fans who had giant cock n balls.
This is like when stan van gundy said he had to spend more time with his family lol I'm kinda suspicious, but always support Aibutt. And LOL I am less drunk now!!
-
The shock of the annoucment was difficult on a lot of posters here and surely was difficult for the fans who were there to hear Ai's annoucement. But Ai will be there for several more months, so let's enjoy the time we have left to share with her in the Morning Musume setting. I am going to allow myself to post one more video that pays tribute to the gokkies, who were really the ones that got me into Morning Musume...song is Best Friend by Kiroro. Risa, the youngest at about 12 years old back then, will now be the new captain....
Best friend (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoBjCEimdMc#)
-
This is really stupid decision by Tsunku. Aichan is last good singer in MM. There is no replacement for her in current MM.
MM will degrade to level of S/mileage or Berryz Kobo. These groups sell less copies of singles than MM.
Any new member will need at least 5 years to have possibility to gain level of Aichan.
It seems she will graduate only because of her age, which isn't valid reason. She looks younger than her age.
-
Ugh, losing both Eri and Ai as my top two favourite members..hopefully someone else (SAYASHI) can fill that void.
Best of luck to Ai though, hopefully she can have a much better solo career or work outside of MM and H!P!
-
You are entitled to your opinion, mske, but I just want to say that I personally disagree with every single point in your post, except that she does look younger than she is.

As of today, Risa and Ai the longest tenured MM, a mark that is Gretzky-esque:

OK.... So... Firstly- I'm starting to get really worried I'm causing some of these graduations- Koharu's was announced the night after I was listening to Guru Guru Jump and I made this strong point in my head of "Even if she isn't talented in a typical way- she's got guts and I really admire her success and character".... and very recently I've been spamming Aibutt on my blog and was even considering that she might be my favourite member and last night made it my 2011 goal to buy Katachi...... AND decided she'd probably be in Morning Musume for another few years seeing as how long Yuko remained in H!P and Ai is the second leader of H!P.
Gaahhh
This has been the first graduation announcement of 3 while I've been a fan to actually make me burst into tears-- Koha's made me a bit like I wanted to cry, this last erijunlin one just made me kind of angry and worried for MM losing so many so fast!
Lately I've been thinking alot about how even from early in her Morning Musume time she really stood out in concerts, her voice has always been one of the strongest and it's amazing watching her hold a character or emotion through a performance.
I understand completely why it's near her 10 anniversary- not only is it a loong time, but it's a nice number to round it off at...
Also, I know some where saying a while back that when Ai and Risa go it should be at the same time- personally I don't agree with this, and I'm glad that it looks like Risa will be around for another couple of years and I think she will be a strong leader like Aichan was and still is for the next few months! <3

^ awwwwww :o naw, dont think like that Meanie :o
That reminds me of this one guy who said he caused Nono from falling on the stage back during Nacchi's Grad lol. It's all coincidence. These things are just the natural procession of a mega group that is the staple of Japanese music history. No matter what happens, the traditions and legendary Tsunku leadership will always be there. It's not the name on the back that makes the TEAM, it's all about the music. You can take all the members away, the hits will always be there. Tsunku knows the score. I detract my tweet but I don't delete shit like a bitch.
Personally, SHE says its her decision. I dunno...but it's gonna be exciting to see what she does on her own. People think Graduation and McDonald's Hell Hole, but they're all doing plays, prospering on TV shows and you will see them throw the OGs together.
H!P TRADITIONS

You know what? I'm not going to freak out about this.
Sure one of my top three is going to be leaving this fall, sure she's one of the strongest singers and dancers, sure she's been in H!P for going on ten years, but that's just it. Ai-chan is twenty four, she's been an idol since she was a child. Being an idol is a little girl's dream and Ai is a young woman now. Honestly, I'm surprised she even stayed as long as she had, when she's so obviously loved branching out into theater. No matter what she thinks of herself, us fans know that she's strong enough to carry on by herself and her real fans will be there even after Momusu and H!P.
Does anyone here still remember the reason graduations got so popular back in the day? It was because the girl, no, the woman had grown beyond what MM could offer them. They were ready to move on for various reasons, but mostly to try to go on to bigger and better things, career wise. (except Fukuda, I'm still convinced she was bullied out) Ai-chan is no different than Nacchi, Yuko, Rika, Yossui and hey, maybe you're saying, "Well, where are they now?", but maybe they're not in the spotlight every day of their freakin' life because they like taking it easy, working at their own pace and not keeping up the hectic schedule that ruled their younger lives.
And I'm sure there will be more photobooks. Rika just came out with one. And I'm sure we'll still see her on stage, with that voice, who wouldn't hire her? And hey, I'm not going to give up on MM so soon, not with four promising recruits just in, but you know, even the 9kies prove my point. Being an idol(in H!P, if that's less offensive) is for little girls.
Maybe JunLin graduating at the same time wasn't their choice, maybe their contracts were up and Japan decided not to renew their visas? But still, I'm sure we'll still be seeing them around.
-
Even though this is the saddest news ever because Aichan is beyond my favorite I can't say that I'm surprised or even that upset.
As soon as they announced the 9th gen auditions I knew Ai would be graduating because really she's just been in the group too long whether we like it or not. No one's come close to how long her and Risa have been in MM except maybe 6th gen. Also she's kinda old. In the past once the members started getting up in their 20's it was time to graduate (with the exception of Nakazawa of course).
I'm actually a little happy because a couple of years ago (before Koharu, Eri, JunJun, and LinLin graduated) I thought of my ideal way for Aichan to graduate. I said I wanted them to bring in a new gen let her teach them for awhile and then she can graduate. That way they could be touched by how awesome Aichan is.
Also I kinda like the timing. They have to announce the grad in a concert and the next concert won't be till spring. When they announced Koharu's grad is was way too soon and there just wasn't enough time. Eri, Jun Jun and Lin Lin and more time and it made things so much better. Now Ai has almost a year till her graduation so when her grad comes along I'll be able to enjoy it for the awesome concert it is, cause with this being Ai's grad it's gonna be HOT!
Ideally for me they would graduate Ai and Risa together and they would go off to form an awesome singing duo. Or even better they would be joined by Makochan and Kon Kon and it would be a 5th gen love group. Sadly this will never happen so I will be satisfied if Ai gets a solo career and keeps acting since you can tell that's where her passion lies.
-
-
I wonder how Ai will be in her graduation concert...
She gets so upset when other members are leaving, even cried when the 9th gen were announce-- I wonder whether she'll be completely cool about the whole thing till the messages or it'll all be a bit emotional rollercoaster ride for her...~ ; u ;
-
I was wondering whether or not to go to the fall tour this year just last night.
Now, it's not even a choice. I HAVE to go. Or else I'll regret it for the rest of my life.
I'm...at a loss for words. Ai has been such a big part of my thoughts for the last three years that it seems like she'll never leave. I know she'll have a fantastic career after graduation, but it just won't be the same. I certainly hope she stays in the public eye though, because my world is a little less bright without her presence in it. >_<
Oh and just to get a word in: Damn UFA had better give her Yokohama Arena at the VERY LEAST for her grad concert, but I don't think I'll be fully satisfied unless its Saitama Super Arena. :< Just sayin'.
-
Aww, post after Essy
As I sit back here in middle America watching all these things happen - the grads last fall, the 9kis auditioning and joining, and now this - I realize that it really just doesn't faze me like others, and like it perhaps used to for me as well. I mainly started becoming the obsessive H!P fan I am in 2004, almost 7 years ago now (and that's still not as long ago as some), and right away there was W's grad, followed not too long after in early 2005 by Kaori and the whole fiascos surrounding Mari, Miki, Aibon... I've always thought of 2005 as the "crazy scandal year", and wonder if living through that is part of why I've taken change since then as just a natural progression.
I mentioned becoming the obsessive "H!P fan" but really at first, like it's seemed to be for many others, it was just MM for me. Then 2005 happened, and it got into 2006, and I started to notice Berryz. Soon I really enjoyed them as well, and today I'd say they're even my top group. C-ute followed not long after, and I even came to like S/mileage almost right away (probably partly because I already liked Yuuka from High-King). Mano's been off and on, but I also became very excited about 9th gen.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, perhaps because of history or not, it seems I'm used to the reality that is the constant change which is part of H!P. I think it makes me lucky as a fan because, no matter who leaves, there's always someone else I can come to enjoy. Ai was my first favorite when I got into MM... though to be honest, I'm more a Reina fan now, as well as some Berryz and C-ute. If a grad was to come from one of them I think it'd hit me harder. But all the same, there's still someone else. In MM there'll be 9th gen, who'll likely be around a long while. There's Berryz. There's S/mileage. There's who knows what new girls to come down the road...
I think you really have to be that way to be satisfied and content as a H!P fan. If you're not as much a fan of the group, and more of an individual girl, and if you think you could never be a fan of anyone else... you're just setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak at some point down the line. It's great that you like a girl so much, but H!P is about spreading the love. There'll always be someone else worth of it if you'd just look.
-
I don't know why but I'm not so sad like EriJunLin Graduation even though Aichan is my favourite :shocked
maybe because I already prepared for that that she will graduate this year.
I hope she will graduate in Yokohama Arena or Saitama Super Arena.
but for the next 10-11 Months it will be a torture to know she will graduate in morning musume aki tour.
Whatever she do after leaving H!P I will support her 100% :twothumbs :twothumbs :twothumbs

NO!! she will graduation on Spring tour concert
-
No... Why? That's too soon!! New members has just been added!! And no one can replace Ai at this time!!
Why Ai-chan? I can't imagine a MM without Ai-chan...
-
No, it's during the fall concert tour.
Don't worry, it's not THAT soon.
And if you can't imagine Morning Musume without Ai-chan, I'm guessing you're a newer fan.
This is just how it goes, how it's always gone, and how it must go.
-
Well crap. Ai was probably going to become my favorite Morning Musume member 'cause I've lost interest in Gaki lately, so... I need to stop choosing favorites. They always graduate. XD
I'm not sure what to say, though. On one hand, I'm really sad because I love Ai and she's a huge part of Morning Musume, not to mention that I've started paying more attention to them again. With her gone, I think the group will seem really empty without her. On the other, though, I'm glad because she'll be able to grow more as an artist and be able to experience stuff that she wasn't able to in Morning Musume. Right now, I'm more sad about it, but if she continues releasing music after her graduation, then I'll be happy. =D
I don't think I've ever been so sad about a graduation since Yossie left.
As for this being the end of Morning Musume, people have said this with every single graduation and they've been going strong for 13 years or so. Ai may be a huge part of the group, but if they could survive without the other aces like Nacchi and Maki, they can survive without Aichan. I think if Tsunku knew the group would be doomed without her, he wouldn't have told her to start thinking about her graduation.
-
Oh man...I was NOT prepared to wake up to this. My friend and I were just talking about it last night, how Ai-chan should have the opportunity to get married and have a family (if she wishes, of course) but...I didn't think it would really happen this soon.
I'm mad, sad, and scared about Ai-chan leaving. Mad because Tsunku has the balls to suggest graduating to her and then make it seem like it was entirely HER decision. I'm sad because I'm gonna miss her so much, she's been tied as my number 1 with Risa for a while now. It's kinda hard to imagine Momusu without her. She's been such a great leader and she's really an important asset to the group. And finally, I'm scared for the future of Momusu without her. Risa will be a very capable leader but that's beside the point. They have less than a year to get 9th gen settled (and popular) before the lineup changes again.
I'm thinking that Tsunku's trying to revamp Momusu's image, with 9th gen being so young and Ai-chan leaving. I'm not sure how wise that decision is. But I guess we'll see. I'll be holding on for the remaining GoRokkies.
-
This is some great news to wake up to...
I was just thinking about her (potential, at the time) graduation. I guess I shouldn't think too much.
But like many others, I'm not going anywhere. I'm been a fan for 4 years (going on 5) and I've grown to support whoever comes and goes in Morning Musume. I'm not gonna leave the fandom just because one of my favorite members leaves.
I've always thought it would be best for Aichan and Gaki to graduate together, but I guess us fans arent reeady for that.
Do your best Gaki!. And I beg of you, plz don't pull a Miki.
Will we see Sayu as the new Subleader?

Since I haven't seen it yet here...

I read about this piece of news this morning, but have now settled my thoughts about this.
I actually expected they announce Aichan's graduation sometime this year, but a week after announcing the 9th generation winners? Like others have said before, Aichan's graduation announcement will definitely overshadow the excitement of the new members... (So yeah, I think this announcement was too early for me... I expected it to be after 9th gen officially debuts in March.)
Compared to others here at JPH!P, I guess I can be considered one of the newer fans to H!P. (I worked my way backwards two years ago from hANGRY & ANGRY to Morning Musume, v-u-den, Melon Kinenbi, and the soloists, etc.). Maybe it's out of my place to say this since I have not been a long-time fan, but I think that Morning Musume's impact on the music industry has decreased gradually over the years. When Morning Musume debuted, I was 8, but I do remember the (Chinese) newspapers had a lot of articles about them and their ascension to fame. I didn't get into Japanese music until high school and didn't pay attention to the Japanese pop scene until fairly recently (I'm more of a rock/dance person). But, my personal opinion is that groups like AKB48 and the popularity of Korean girl groups are currently dominating the industry.
Once a pioneer of the Japanese pop idol genre, I really do question the fate of the group now that Aichan will be graduating. While she's not my favourite member, I think she and Gaki are the glue that holds Morning Musume together. I am not sure how Gaki feels about being leader, but I think it'd be an interesting challenge and experience for her. That being said, however, I would think that both Aichan and Gaki would graduate together because they're best friends and one without the other just doesn't seem right to me.
With this in mind, I am wondering who will be the next sub-leader... Reina's always expressed her wish to one day be leader of the group, but I am thinking Sayu might become subleader (if they are really into using their ages to determine seniority). I'm also wondering about the tension and/or problems that may arise once Aichan leaves the group. Gaki's time will soon come as well, but will she be able to lead 9th generation effectively? I think Aichan's done a great job so far, so it will be hard for Gaki to follow in her footsteps. But, every person is different and we'll see how it all turns out.
Whether it was Aichan's decision or not (really, who is in charge of Morning Musume - Tsunku or Yamazaki Naoki?), she has my support. I have a lot of qualms of who runs Morning Musume (and subsequently all H!P groups), but if they're graduating Aichan because of her age to make the group "younger", then that isn't a wise decision...
I'm not sad, but nor am I particularly happy about this piece of news. I don't want to see Morning Musume whither away in the Japanese pop scene, but Tsunku had better have some tricks up his sleeve.
-
~SNIP~
Definitely what shi said.
Personally, SHE says its her decision. I dunno...
In a way, it was. Aichan said herself that Tsunku told her that she should start to think about when she would want it to happen. So yeah, even though the decision for her to graduate may have already been made, she was at least able to choose WHEN it would happen. And notice that she's given herself a whole 6 months, so that she'll be able to help the 9th Gen integrate into the group as well as help Risa prepare to fully take the reigns as leader (unlike what happened to both herself and Yossi, who both had the leadership given to them rather suddenly).
I'm still somewhat emotionally reeling from both Eri-Jun-Lin leaving as well as the addition of the new members. Makes one think about Riho getting picked. Considering how, in the past, we've griped at how Tsunku would pass up/reject girls that we (at the time) knew/felt had the talent & skill to do well in MM, it looks like they're going to be "giving her the ball" (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=27786.msg836305#msg836305) sooner than we may have thought.
-
It was way too good to be true that we did have such a stable lineup for so long ... now everything is changing. Although...I haven't paid much attention to H!P since the announcement that Linlin was graduating....now Ai-chan....
I'll still support Ai-chan in whatever she does - because that is what a fan does.
-
I won't lie, Morning Musume won't be the same (for me) without Aichan. I'll miss everything about her a lot. And certainly i'm a bit concerned about how the group will continue, i mean they already announced that the leader is leaving so how is this going to affect in terms of line distributions or even during the concerts... i'm sure that in all these months left she will teach the newcomers everything she can... Oh man!!!! of course it wont be the same but momusu is far from dead, i'll keep following them until the very last... i even think Hello! Project might disappear but their groups will continue for longer.
Morning Musume is more that all her members, is an institution in music and the whole idea is that people might leave but the group will prevail and keep on going in the same direction as always. I'm positive that all the ex members really wanted the fans to keep supporting the group despite their absence. I also think that there is nothing wrong in following another groups like akb or korean stuff, no need to reject your H!P fandom for this... Aichan loves kpop, that better teach you a lesson.
Now, if Aichan starts a solo act or leads another group (kinda like Yossi) i'll be very happy but if not then i'll support her no matter what... hell i'll keep stalkin her no matter if she gets married, have kids and dissapear from the industry. Once i dream that Aichan was in Perú with her family buying my store and i was so shocked that i gave her everything for free, she let me take a couple of photos with her and signed a poster that appeared from nowhere lol...
This year ends another era in Morning Musume, the Aibutt legacy will be remembered for ever and ever.... i have great expectations for her future and the future of the group.
-
I think unlike the EJL graduation this could be a good thing for both Ai and Momosu. Ai will be able to start her solo career and be able to have relationships and such. Momosu will be able to explore new directions and be more creative.
-
It was bound to happen sooner or later. Time to plan that Japan trip to support her.

They haven't announced the tour schedule yet, right? I just MAY be in Japan in late September or early October.
Hmm....
-
Awww Erina :O ..This makes me like her more

UGH!!! when i woke-up this morning this is the first thing that i read. I blurted out OH MY GOD so loud :panic:
that my father got worried.. :nervous and then i kept saying OMG and started crying
i know that i am really really REALLY a new fan (only 2 months ++) of Morning Musume but that doesn't mean i love them any less.
in the short period of time that i got to know them (watching NUMEROUS subtitled vids) i can honestly say that i grew to love
them more as the days progress. of course watching those old (and some new) helped me picked my favorite and that was/is
Kamei Eri - :banghead: at the time i was still clueless about her graduation  and my second favorite is Takahashi Ai.
so again, i am really really frustrated!! i guess i still have a few more months to follow Aichan compared to Eri but i was hoping
that it would be Aichan that would help me move on from Eri's grad. **SIGH** i hope the 9th Gen will grow on me soon..
maybe i should stop picking favorites? lol.. even though i saw Aichan graduate soon (but not this soon) i was not mentally nor
emotionally prepared for this announcement so early in the morning. :JD: :err: :fainted:
EDIT: i forgot to add... Tsunku-san you BASTARD!, it hasn't even been 3 months since the heartbreaking graduation
of the three (don't you know the 3 month rule?!!) and now you decided to break our hearts again :ptam-cry: HECK! you didn't even give us
40 days to grieve?!!!! :imdead: just when i was getting happy and excited about the 9th gen you decided to drop this bomb and
shatter my aching and recovering heart.. :pen_cry:
-
ok, so after I spend all day in shock, cry(not as much as i though), scream, and been sad the whole time... I grave myself together....and I'm still in shock
This is so unexpected in some way. It was about time this happen whatsoever... this soon? o.0 (The announcement i mean)
I'm not as shocked as Eri but still Ai was and still is my #1 in current H!P and support her no matter what.
I'm happy about this. Finally Ai can shine! and hopefully show her true talent! I actually been thinking about Ai's gad for about 2 years now. Saying she needs to go out of MM and do her own 'cause, in somehow, H!P has been holding her back
There's nothing but brightness in Ai's future that's a fact!
From now 'til the day there's a lot of time to treasure and even after that!
That gif kill me. So cute and Erina cry, made me like her xD (and made me confirm one more time think Riho is such a little bitch xD)
And the whole "OMFG! Morning Musume is soooooooooooooooo dead!" is always amusing xD
There's plenty time, as was said, for the new member to do their things and carry the new flag of MM.
After all this is what MM is all about, is hard yeah but is not the end (to some maybe) but not for the group.
What i don't understand if why H!P o.0? she will still with OG Musume right? and move to the whole M-line no? 'casue if not then I'll kill myself or some one else >.>
So yeah, that's pretty much what i wanted to say....
-
M-line and the OG Musumes in it are outside of H!P.
They still have their own individual careers, but I don't think they're still considered to be idols.
I see this as Aichan wanting to break away from being an idol.
In the past if a graduated member went solo and still stayed in H!P (Gocchin, Nacchi, etc), she was still considered an idol.
In any case, she's just too good to disappear. That just doesn't happen.
-
Lol that gif with the new members made me like Erina a little more too. XD And Riho seems way too cold. >_> Hmph. XD Talented or not, that kind of attitude will not make me warm to her. XD
So who's definitely going down to the grad concert? I know it's a little early to be taking names, but we might as well plan ahead and make an event out of it (come on, this is JPHiP, AIBUTT is graduating, and we never pass up a chance to boogie  ).
-
Who will be the next leader!?
What'll happen, even though the new members just joined!?
What about High-King!?
What about High-King?!!! NOOOOES~~~~! :on blackhole:
Thanks Reina... I was just starting to feel better before you reminded me. XD
After work, the first thing I'm gonna do is watch the Cinderella/Complex PV and all the High-King lives.
-
And Riho seems way too cold. >_> Hmph. XD Talented or not, that kind of attitude will not make me warm to her. XD
Riho looked like she had tears in her eyes... a little, anyway. xD Plus to be honest, she hasn't known Ai too long, so we can't expect her to start crying for her. Maybe Erina's just a really emotional person? Or maybe Riho's like me - I don't show emotion very well, so I don't cry often. It doesn't mean I'm not sad, I just can't show it very well.
But yeah, I am still sad. I've started liking her a lot recently and she has to go?

I'm really disappointed in some Morning Musume fans. I am currently a bigger fan of AKB48 and I don't want any transfer fans just because they are pissed Takahashi graduated. Plus, the whole theme of Morning Musume is the consistent graduations and new members. Takahashi has been an ace of Morning Musume for 10 years and she is basically the lead vocalist with Reina at the moment. I am excited to hear a new sound because the reason I've been losing interest is because their sound and look has been boring me. I personally hope that she joins a Takarazuka troupe instead of becoming a solo artist because Aya, Miki, Johnson, and Nacchi haven't been successful as solo acts since they've graduated from Hello Project. Plus, 10 years is a long time. Takahashi has had more than enough time as a member and should be moving on to start a new chapter in her life. I am not a Takahashi fan (I was on and off until 2010), but besides that I think this is happy news. There is a chance that I can become a fan again. It is not the end of Morning Musume, just a new line-up and I think every can agree that they are due for some change. I think is a chance to turn things around.
-
Yep, this day was looming. No doubt about it. But I figure she'll be around, like Charmy. Heck she can join the "Dream Musume" lineup in 2012.
I think I said it ages ago: being a fan of Musume and Company is all about having your heart broken. To our newer fans I can only say: welcome, you've lost your virginity.
And anyone who utters a cackle in response to the news of Aichan's impending departure is a ten-karet asshole. You can quote me.

Quoting this whole thing cuz this has been my favorite response to this news. You've hit the strong points, and have said things I've wanted to say, but wasn't sure how to put into words. :nervous
but one thing I'll say about ppl who have + will/may jump ship to the sole support of AKB48, news flash--They have graduations too.
and for the record: I'm also an AKB48 fan. Dual Membership. :thumbup

parts of the concert and the announcement of graduation.. :banghead:
btw.. where's zukki??
-
well... i have to say i'm very surprised when i saw the news, especially it's not long after eri's graduation...
i'm sad about the graduation, ai and eri are my favourite in momusu.
but if she really want to move on, then i just have to support them whichever path she want to choose.
and yeah, maybe changes is what momusu really needs... i will still follow them even if ai is graduating...
-
Waking up to this news yesterday was terribly upsetting for me, but I've had a sense of dread about a graduation announcement for Aichan and or Risa ever since Tsunku said the word "sotsugyou" at the summer concert. It's funny 'cause in the past few weeks, I've been feeling really nostalgic about Aichan, going and watching old clips of her awesomeness - and heck, I even had a dream about her a few nights ago, and in my 9.5 years as an H!P fan, I can't say that I recall having a H!P related dream.
I have loved Aichan since I watched her perform "Souda! We're Alive" way back in 2002 on... Music Japan? ... I dunno, some music show, and she's been my favourite MM member since Rika graduated.
But I know whatever Aichan goes on to do, I'm going to be supporting her. She's an amazing talent and absolutely gorgeous. I can't imagine that she would fade into obscurity.
As with all graduation announcements, it has set of a round of "ZOMG THE END OF MOMUSU IS NEAR!" I don't want to speculate on any of that, 'cause really, why would I want to talk about the possibility of this group falling apart without her, knowing Aichan loves it so much. Even with her graduation, she'll want MM to continue on strong without her, and I know she's going to do her best to prepare Risa to lead MM into the future.
My only concern regarding Risa as leader is whether she'll scare the newbs. XD We know she's caring and reliable... But like Junjun said in her and Linlin's graduation DVD, Risa was scary with all of her criticisms when they first joined. I think that's what made Aichan and Risa such a good team. Aichan was there to soothe the others and guide them with a gentle hand while Risa was there as "papa", the firm, sometimes scary, presence. You konw "papa's" there for you, but sometimes it's hard to comprehend that there is love and concern behind the harsh words. Because of that, I feel Sayu would be the best choice for subleader (and I think it will be Sayu since she's older than Reina) because all the girls say that Sayu is one of the nicest people they know despite her poison-tongue tv persona. I have nothing against Reina, but she doesn't seem the type to be warm and fuzzy with other members so much (seeing as she doesn't tend to hang out with fellow members outside of work hours).
Anyway, I'm blabbing away... XD I wrote up a monster Aichan love post on my blog. The only reason I want to share the post here is because of the video files I embedded at the end of the post. I don't know if they're readily available on youtube, but they've been bringing a smile to my face the past few days. I especially can't get enough of the clip from MM's 15th DVD Magazine with "Takahashi Arigato Gozaimashita!" XD

:(
I still haven't quite processed this information I don't think.
It almost doesn't feel real.
I've been a fan for 5 years and for all of that time Ai has been a member and a strong presence. It's really hard to imagine a Morning Musume without her.
I can't think of this as the end of Morning Musume though, not as long as the 9th gen are capable. (and Zukki has the makings of a great idol I think) Ai had a great run, but EVERYONE has to graduate from Morning Musume. Whether we like it or not, all of our favorite members are going to graduate sooner or later, it comes with the fandom.
I think 10 years is enough for any member, Ai is moving on to (hopefully) bigger and better things and she'll probably be happier when she has freedom over her own life.
As a side note; I'm so happy for Risa! I know she'll make a GREAT leader!!
-
I keep forgetting that this is going to happen-- When Momusu start playing on my iPod or I see their latest photobooks and cd's I remember and feel quite sad... ; n ;
Yep- definetly the worst graduation to witness so far in my time as a fan! :panic:
-

Yep- definetly the worst graduation to witness so far in my time as a fan! :panic:
lol. I simply can't forget. XD I wake up in the morning and I see Aichan on my wall - in the form of my MM 2011 calendar and my framed autograph photoset from AX, and I cry a little inside. Then I get in my car for the morning commute and until the graduation (and likely some time afterwards), my playlist on my Ipod will be Aichan heavy (as though it isn't already in normal times XD), so more thoughts of Aichan...
Basically when this was announced, I mentioned to some friends that now I have a year to get progressively more depressed. :banghead:
So far, Rika's grad has been the worst for me, but that was after only 4 years of being a fan... 10 years of built up Aichan love... This is definitely gonna be the saddest and most painful graduation for me, without a doubt (despite my looking forward to whatever it is Aichan does post-grad).
-
Many thoughts in my mind... I don't post as much as I would but this graduation deserves this.
Aichan was, is and will be awesome.
I remember when she first entered MM, she had so much potential...
I was pleased to see her improving & getting this leader place... as I am right now with seeing Chisato blossoming.
Ribbon no Kishi: the musical (リボンの騎士 ザ・ミュージカル) is truly her masterpiece.
Honestly, Aichan lovers, you MUST see how wonderful she is in this musical, acting & singing & giving her best.
And, that's the point, I'm feeling relieved about her pursuing into Theater. It's her true way.
Ganbatte Aichan, and give all you can to the 9th gen !
-
I see this as Aichan wanting to break away from being an idol.
Aichan has to graduate because UFA / Tsunku has decided. It isn't her idea to leave MM.
I'm positive that all the ex members really wanted the fans to keep supporting the group despite their absence.
Fans should only support groups they like. Ceasing of support is probably only way of protest against changes.
-
^ I like Morning Musume.
-
-
Seriously, Tsunku needs some killer single for the new Momusu cuz with ai-chan leaving it's like destroying the group. So we need to listen to something that proves momusu still strong.
Graduation sucks!
-

THIS. Let's do it ESSY. I made a facebook page, we can plan it in the World Tour thread or here or make a new thread:

I've been away from posting for a long time and when I heard the news of Ai leaving just made it even worse. I'm honestly hoping for the best but expecting the worse. Risa and Reina can sing too, sure, but not nearly as good and with the new members which doubtfully will reach an Ai level of quality in just a few months the quality of songs or at least the solos and diversity will not be just as great.
I've been disappointed with some graduations but this one has got to be the worse to take.
-
To be honest, I was expecting this and I'm surprised it took this long. It's sad to see her go, indeed. I've been a fan since 5th gen joined... so even though I've jumped off of the H!P boat a couple of times, it's like growing up with them.
She's incredibly talented, has a great ass personality, and I'm sure this won't be the last that we see of her.
-
I started listening to MM when Miki joined because I liked her and Aya Matsuura but then the group grew on me a lot. You probably saw a lot of graduations you thought it was over hehe.
Honestly I thought she was going to grad sooner but since Eri, Jun and Lin went out I thought that it would take a while, especially with the new gen.
Anyway, let's us hope Tsunku doesn't put her on the sideways like most grads or at least she goes out of H!P to a better way, maybe Avex or Sony Music.
-
Ribbon no kishi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx-2jV8rbeo#ws)
How could I forget to post this ? T_T
I sincerely hope that Ai chan will pursue awesome role like this ! :)
-
I'm speechless...
Tsunku might be the most hated man in all Japan... GoD I just came back from work... and wow...
I was thinking about all the earquake and tsumani thing... I forgot to read about MM news...
It just hit hard on me...
Well I must just fel depress later... there are more important things right know
Let's pray~
-
... You just found out about Ai-chan's graduation now? :shocked
-
MM and hello project will be so different from now on. ahhh....im gonna miss her man screams! lolz and i knew this the day before the concert
