Title: Journalist unknowingly dates Magic : The Gathering World Champ...
Post by: Tuffty on September 07, 2011, 11:06:25 PM
Then dumps and complains online about it. (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/08/my-okcupid-affair-with-a-world-champion-magic-the-gathering-player/)

What a narcissistic bitch. Even if you're not a fan of the hobby, it's no reason to dump someone and humilate them online over it. Clearly an example of this girl who has this 'must tick every box' mentality and won't be satisfied if a 'nerdy' hobby is one of them. Time to come into the real world love.

Love the excuse she made a profile cause she was drunk. If she was, she could have deleted the profile, not continuing to maintain it and reply to messages.

^ I totally agree with you but I wonder if he was gonna sacrifice for her, if she decided to take it all the way, but I guess once a shallow bitch always one, eh

Although I do want a perspective from the female side, seeing this article, in my position, I would still enjoy what I do, although I would give up as much as I want her to give something up in return. :)

My fiance plays Magic, Pokemon, and Starcraft (he's playing right now behind me lol), and a bunch of board games. We met on an online dating site too and he didn't mention those things much on his profile. Of course when he did mention them I was like "Oh boy..." but I didn't want to judge so I let him take me to some gamer stores to watch him play and showed me how to play but I was all :? He's pretty good at them, Pokemon seems to be his favorite. I'd tease him about it cuz it's cute. After trying out a few of those things I decided that it wasn't really something I'd be interested in but there were some board games I did like and we'd play often (and I'd kick his butt in it. LoL). But I allowed myself to be open about it and as a result I have a better understanding about the appeal and rules of the games. But I still conclude it's still not an interest to me and he completely understands it. Just as he's not as interested in going to art galleries with me, when I want to him to describe the artwork as more than just "pretty" or "cool". LoL But it's not like we don't allow ourselves to share those things with each other, I'd help him sort out his pokemon cards and stuff and he's always giving me ideas of what to paint. Of course there's other things we have in common that make us get along. I guess the thing with him is that he doesn't eat, sleep, breathe all those things. Although he's serious when it comes playing he doesn't let it take over his life and let it get in the way of us. So I guess that's why I'm very accepting about and it doesn't bother me. Or we're just a different kind of couple. :D

But the girl in the article didn't even give him a chance. He could've been a millionaire and she would've missed out on that, although that would be a bad reason to date someone too. LoL

Just a little background on this article, the woman who wrote it was a Gizmodo intern.
Soon after it was put up, editor Elly Hart responded with this:

Alyssa Bereznak is making us females look bad. I’m ashamed on behalf of our sex that she said those bitchy things. In her article, she accuses a world champion of Magic: The Gathering of being a liar and a creep. In reality, her predatory and trollish behaviour makes her the creepy one.

Some quick Googling shows that the original author's internship was ending the next day or so.
So one way or another, her employment with Gizmodo was coming to an end.

In any case, I hope this article follows that bitch for the rest of her life and ruins her career and romantic life.

So when I saw an IM from a guy saying, “You should go out with me :)” I was relieved. He seemed normal. I gave him my name.

Wonder if Gawker purposely let her kill her journalism career, just for more clicks to their page.

Probably. I have geeky hobbies - including playing Magic. They've never interfered with my social life. There are weird creepy misfit gamers, but that's true of all hobbies.

Anyway, I don't think she's representative of most women either.
