Just announced on the official SDN blog (http://ameblo.jp/sdn48official/entry-11048955915.html):
SDN48, as a group, will be graduating after their farewell concert on March 31st, 2012.

All SDN48 members to graduate from group
On October 15th, AKB48’s sister group, SDN48 (‘SaturDay Night 48′) has announced that every SDN48 member will graduate from the group through a farewell concert, which will be held on March 31st, 2012.
Below is the translated announcement posted on SDN48’s official blog:
“It has been 2 years and 2 months since we formed SDN48, and we would like to thank you for your large support and warmhearted messages since the beginning.
In order to focus on each member’s career path, all the members of SDN48 will graduate from the group together.
Through their farewell concert on March 31st, 2012, the first chapter of SDN48 will conclude its role.
We are approaching the time where we need to think about our break point.
Though all of us will go on a new stage to fulfill our own dreams, please continue to support us.”
Since the announcement doesn’t go into detail, fans are confused over whether SDN48 plans to disband altogether, or if there will be a “second chapter”.

I'm sad for Kohara...
and it sucks that we never got to see Hiichan and Tojima in action properly...
Other than that, it's not thát surprising, they never took of the way NMB48 did (for example).

SDN48 have multiple TV shows, they appear in variety shows (heyheyhey, etc), they appear in musicals, they get single releases... it's not like he completely ignored them.

I wasn't happy with the direction the group was going, but this was just my personal choice...( I much prefer 'kawaii' to sexy) the third single was going to be the last one I bought of theirs before this announcement.
But I'm sorry for the fans that do like them.. and most of all, I hope that ALL the girls were wanting this, rather than it being folded regardless.

It's not really surprising. When you consider the number of girls to be paid, their ages, the overhead, and more, SDN probably wasn't too far into the black. Their contracts probably run out in April, and they figure it's time to end it.

Only looking at SDN as their own group, it's not surprising at all.
Still sucks though, since the akb-grads had just jumped in.

I'm not too worried about most of the girls, they all came from other entertainment backgrounds, and the smarter ones probably already had plans from way before. It's the girls that came from AKB that I'm really worried about. What will happen to Kohara Haruka?! No one's gonna want to hire her!

So saddening.. but such is life. I just hope serina continues to release gravure... glad I met her thru this group... she is my R18 Nocchi... Twas a great run, I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Looking at SDN48 CD sales, you can't say they aren't successful, yet they never really captured the hearts of the fans in the way that the other48 groups did.
If you look at this interview (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=30758.msg984863#msg984863), Aki-P states:
"AKB48 are unfinished," says Yasushi Akimoto, AKB48 lyricist, producer and mastermind. "Other groups make their debut after auditioning and practicing, but AKB48 are unpolished. Fans can watch them progress," Mr. Akimoto says.
This is less true for SDN48 since the majority of them have careers in variety and whatnot already. It may one of the reasons why SDN48 never took off.
Another reason may be their age and image. I guess most fans prefer cute young girls, rather than sexy adult women.
The tricky bit is, that there ARE sexy adult women in the other 48 groups. Plenty! So if you are into that, you don't have to focus on SDN48 to get some sexiness.

If that's the case the SNSD-craze wouldn't have taken off in Japan.
But maybe that's why The Man wanna graduate SDN off, he know it's a losing fight to compete with SNSD on their level of expertise

I think we can not compare SNSD and SDN! It's totally different style and SDN are the best^^°.
SDN is a group with punchy singles and very hot PV.. evenif the members are older than any other idol groups I think they can give us good performance and good music..sound "little bit" more adult.. :drool:.. it was good idea from Aki-p like everytime, imo little bit too short life for this group..I don't want to be in march.

from Sept last year's announcement to members, 6 months has passed
[The Day to say SAYORANA has come to pass]
finally the day is here
SDN48 has worked fanatically & grasped at every opportunity particularly in the last 6 months to leave no regrets
the members camaraderie & warmth for each other & towards each other radiated so strongly that i have been humbled & at the same time enriched
& of course the fans' support during this period has been overwhelming as ever
Really in the 6 months i gained so much personal growth experiences & unforgettable memories
SDN's appearance at Kouhaku Utagassen at the end of the year
Request Hour Best 100 Setlist at the turn of the year
SDN hit song [Kodoku na Runner] placed 3rd
all the members broke out in tears on the stage
was really impressed that the venue was filled with [SDN] chants fron the audience
the last single attained the best ranking of all the 5 singles at weekly 2nd place.
SDN's best album [NEXT ENCORE] tops the weekly chart
Today the members will repay the fans for all their support through the years with the absolute best live concert as a fitting grand finale to show their sincere appreciation
Thank You so much, everyone for everything
Today is a special day for everyone who has to know SDN48 & it will be absolutely unforgettable

SDN48 is my favourite for they are the easiest to oversee & manage
& a BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone associated & involved with SDN since their theatre debut till today
all journeys have a beginning & an end
the days in-between are priceless experiences
[as the saying goes all good things must come to an end]
Today is SDN48's first & final concert
the members are really nervous thinking that their first concert is also the [graduation concert]
perhaps it is just a mistake & a bad dream ?
however when the concert commence
the many familiar faces of the fans in the audience will reassure the members

SDN48 was clearly the favourite group of TGSK, we can see him with SDN member alot in video, report, lso on G+..
It's sad to see a group like SDN48 coming to his first concert who is also the last.
