On December 5th, popular idol group AKB48 announced through their official blog that they will be holding their own “Kohaku singing battle”!
AKB48 has been confirmed to perform at the annual New Year’s Eve music show, “The 62nd Kohaku Uta Gassen“, and they have also been promoting the show as a “supporter”. To prepare themselves for the big event, the group has decided to hold their own “Kohaku singing battle” themselves. Just like the original program, the members will divide into teams of “red” and “white”, and compete against each other.
AKB48’s “Kohaku singing battle” will be held on December 20th at TOKYO DOME CITY HALL. Tickets and other information will be revealed through their official blog at a later date.

I jokingly considered the possibility of having all the heavy-hitters ending up together in one group, but Takamina, Yuka, Wasamin, Sayaka, Mochi together... they barely left anything for the other team, did they? :lol:

Well, even with almost all the best singers in Red Team, there's no 100% guarantee that they will win even though the percentage is definitely high. You guys must remember that this is voted by fans, not by professional judges, so the possibility that fans just vote for their favorite members regardless of their singing is still THERE. For example, if Rena ends up in team White, all her fans will vote for her no matter how bad she sings :nervous. Yep I know that Acchan is in team Red so they have an advantage but so is Yuko in White Team plus Yukirin plus Mayuyu. I think this is just another popularity contest in the form of singing. However, if by some miraculous magic the fans suddenly care about singing, then there's no doubt which team will win. However, I really doubt that.

at least I got to see the final 6 battle songs. Yuko x Itoshisa no Accel = BOSS :inlove:
funny. when they only revealed the first 2 scores (a bunch of scores still needed to be added), and Mayuyu said "great, let's end it like this" :D

Ah, Akagumi... what a waste of talent they did. :smhid I was prepared to vote for them (even though most of my favorites are in Shirogumi) because objectively speaking, they have the best singers in the 48 family and thus expected better performances. But no, they had to misuse their members. They give their mediocre singers (like Acchan and Tomochin) solos and stuck Yuttan, Nacchi, and Wasamin in a big ass group. What is that travesty?! And to think they started out strong with Sayaka's solo! Shirogumi, on the other hand, played their cards excellently and mixed and matched the weak singers with good ones. Rena's, Yuki's, Yui & Sakiko's... :twothumbs And Yuko's solo was so freakin' awesome. Her yakuza outfit was :wub:. Ended up voting for them. :thumbsup
Anyway, it was a very nice show, nevertheless. There were some great shuffles in there. I hope they do this again next year. :)
P.S. I wonder how Rena felt hearing/watching Acchan butcher her song? I swear I was ready to die from second-hand embarrassment while watching it. Acchan, why u forget the lyrics?

^ Some people are suggesting that maybe she had trouble singing because of: 1. the loud crowd; 2. the unstable rolling stage they put her in. I guess it makes sense, though. It's hard to hear herself and the accompanying music amidst that thundering crowd she was wheeled into, which would explain why she was off-beat (and off-tune) most of the time. I actually felt bad for right her at the end. She sounded like she was about to burst into tears, judging from how her voice cracked.

^When I realized she was going to sing Kareha, I got excited, too. I mean, it was a logical song choice for her, and even though I know Rena owns the song, I was still looking forward to seeing how she would perform it. It was tragic. =/
Takamina's solo... She was flat in some parts, but I think it would have been better if they chose another song to rearrange. Or maybe turned it into rock instead.
Still, it was a really fun concert. The shuffles were really great. I like the mixing of SKE (other than WMatsui) and AKB into units. And I really liked the idea of the groups swapping songs. It's not something you really see, even in their big concerts. :)

God I love this forum. I thought I'd have to wait a day or two to see anything yet you guys are already finding and posting clips for everyone to see :D This concert really does look like it was awesome. I've only watched 4 performances so far but I'm already blown away by how awesome it was.
gekikarabuACE, I actually felt the same as you about beginner. I didn't think it worked particularly well as an acoustic version. I kinda felt a bit sorry for Takamina cause I think she deserved a better song. Only a minor complaint really cause I still actually really enjoyed the performance but I bet with an ever better arrangement she'd have blown the roof off the place!

I was actually talking about Rena getting Yuki's center position in Kuchi Utsushi no Chocolate. And regarding Acchan... it sounded like she was half-a-beat(?) late, especially in parts of the verses. Not sure if she was having trouble remembering the lyrics or finding the rhythm to the song.

Yeah, imho the arrangement they did just wasn't cutting it, that's why it sounded a bit confusing. Like it got stuck between speeding up and slowing down. Lol, does that even make sense. And I think the key may be too low for Takamina, though she still managed to make it work.

Apparently there were technical difficulties during Kareha and Acchan couldn't hear herself. That kind of thing can make even professional singers screw up.

I've yet to watch the concert in full but what I saw of it on youtube was absolutely insane. If we weren't able to get a Tokyo Aki Matsuri II this year, this is a pretty damn good substitute. :lol: The highlight for me thus far is, of course, Sasshi's rendition of Dear J. Talk about awesome! This girl can play the hetare card all she wants, it's so obvious that she's a pro. :pimp:
And yeah I feel bad for Acchan, whatever the case was. She's an ace and has never fucked up like that. I just hope she doesn't feel too down about it, but I imagine it has to be a bit embarrassing. :(

Saw this live. Pretty good to finally see an AKB event when it's actually happening :lol:
White kind of ran away with it from the get go. Sashihara trolling like a king. That performance sealed for me. There were definitely a lot of cool performances. SKE and NMB doing each other's songs was pretty nice. JKT showing up out of nowhere was pretty awesome.
Some other notables:
Matsui Sakiko was lovely.
Beginner acoustic had a pretty decent arrangement, but I thought Takamina sings better than that :/
Lovetan's hair
Red had the better singers. Mocchi and Tomo~mi sang great, Yuka and Wasamin somehow gets wasted on that Christmas song :| why not solo?
Mariko and Kojiharu, the oldest members doing that song is just funny.
Feel bad for Acchan. Good effort to try to save it despite whatever problem, but watching that was awkward and terrible.
Some girls sang pretty shitty, but yay for live singing.
It was a fun event.

I'm now watching through the whole thing and it's even more awesome watching it in order. And having Sasshi as the opener was definitely a good move :D
Sorry to be a pain and ask this though, but is there a setlist with the girls full names? I really appreciate the setlist posted on the first page and I don't want to sound ungrateful, but even with the girls last names I'm still struggling to figure out who a lot of them are and there's quite a few girls catching my eye who I can't identify. If someone has a setlist with the girls full names, even if it is in Japanese, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you :)
Edit: OMFG just got to Blue Rose and damn if Suu-chan and Harugon didn't totally blow me away! They were so hot! :D (Not wishing to sound like I didn't appreciate the other 2 girls, cause they were awesome too, but, well, my bias is showing isn't it XD). Someone please tell me this will be on blu-ray!

Cause my friends told me that only Acchan,,Takamina,, TOmochin,,and Sayaka were singing live...

^I wondered about that too. I definitely think some of the girls did lipsynch. But, I think that more than those 4 were singing live. I was sure that Sasshi sung her solo live and I remember as I was watching I thought some of the other girls were too.

I'm fairly disappointed when they allocated Masuda and Satou N. into Noel no Yoru with a bunch of other members. :smhid
I mean, come on, what a waste.
Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but overall very entertaining. There are some moments where I actually facepalmed at the singing, but I love them too much to let something like that bother me. Ahahaha
Kasai should get a solo song and photobook(s).
Edit: Finished watching. Felt bad for Maeda, ugh. Looks like a technical problem more than anything.

LOLOL!! As expected, they cleaned up Acchan's Kareha no Station pretty nicely. Bravo to technical team in charge of it. :lol:
I wished they panned the camera to Rena even just once to see her face when hearing her song like that, but I guess they wouldn't risk her showing a :doh: or :smhid reaction.

I'm glad they decided to polish Acchan's performance. It's unfair to her if she couldn't deliver due to technical circumstances. Secondly, the fans don't want a crappy performance either. Of course a proper live Acchan no Station would be epic, but in this particular case I think they did the right thing.

I think they may have learned their lesson - I noticed during the stream of SSA that Kojiharu had an earpiece in during her live solo.
