I finally have some time to write, so I have decided to write this Christmas story. There will be 12 parts and I will be posting 1 part a day until Christmas day. Anway, please enjoy! :)
Day 01: December 14th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
"That will be 5000 yen." Kashiwagi Yuki smiled at the elderly lady standing on the other side of the counter.
"Here you go, Yuki-chan."
Yuki accepted the money and put it inside the cash register. She turned to the person who was supposed to be bagging the grocery to find the other woman staring into space. Yuki quickly grabbed a bag and put the grocery inside.
"We are really sorry for the delay, Watanabe-san. She is not feeling that well today." Yuki apologized to the older lady. "And once the new stock of the tea comes in, I will give you a call."
"It's not a problem, dear." The elderly lady picked up the grocery and waved goodbye to the two women. "And I hope that Yuko-chan will be feeling better soon."
Yuki waited until the elderly lady walked out of the supermarket before gently hitting the woman beside her. The other person did not react, so Yuki decided to try again with more force.
"Ouch!" Oshima Yuko rubbed her arm as she turned to face Yuki. "What was that for?"
"I’m just trying to make sure that you are still alive. What's wrong with you today anyway?" Yuki asked as she began to flip through the sales log.
"Why is life so cruel to me? They are taking the joy away from me. How am I going to survive?"
"You are exaggerating." Yuki replied without even taking a look at Yuko.
"You are my best friend!" Yuko complained. "Aren't you supposed to be on my side?"
"I'm on your side; otherwise, I wouldn't be helping you with the supermarket. I'm practically devoting my life to this supermarket."
Yuko started to pout and threw her arms around Yuki. "Oh Yuki!"
Yuki patted Yuko softly on the head. "Okay, you are not going to be much help here. Why don't you go back to the office? It's almost time for closing anyway."
Yuko nodded and walked slowly back to the office.
Yuki could tell that something was bothering the usually energetic Yuko. After she finished up with the closing, she would have to have a talk with her best friend to see what was bothering the other woman.
Yuki walked around the supermarket to make sure that there were no customers left in the store. Then, she walked back to the front and prepared for closing. She was about to pull down the gate when she heard someone calling her name.
"Yukirin!"
Yuki smiled as Maeda Atsuko approached her. "Off work now, Acchan?"
Atsuko nodded and stepped into the store. She lifted up her hand to show Yuki the small white box that she was holding. "We were trying a new recipe today and we had some leftovers, so I’ve brought some over for you and Yuu-chan."
Yuki locked up the store and turned to face Atsuko. "It's always nice to have a friend who can make tasty food."
Atsuko laughed as the two of them walked to the cash registers.
Yuko, Yuki and Atsuko were best friends who had grown up together since kindergarten. Yuko's parents had passed away when she was really young, so she was raised by her grandfather who owned the neighbourhood supermarket. He had retired when Yuko graduated from university 2 years ago. Since then, Yuko had taken over the ownership and had asked Yuki to help her out at the supermarket. Yuki was now the manager of the supermarket, mostly in charge of the financial aspects of the supermarket. With Yuko looking after the product inventory and administrative sides of the supermarket, the two of them had formed a great partnership.
Atsuko, on the other hand, worked at the local bakery. She had always had an interest in food, so after high school graduation, she had begged the owners of the bakery, a middle-aged couple, to hire her as an apprentice. With her determination along with the help of Yuko and Yuki, the owners finally agreed to hire her. Atsuko was a quick learner and she could always come up with new ideas for pastries and cakes. Since the owners had no children, they treated Atsuko like their own daughter.
"Ne, Acchan, do you know what's wrong with Yuko-chan?"
"She didn't tell you?"
Yuki shook her head.
"Haruna told her last night that she might not be able to come back for Christmas this year."
"Ah, no wonder Yuko-chan looked so down today."
When they first entered high school, Yuko had met Kojima Haruna, a new transfer student who had just moved to town. It was love at first sight for Yuko, but it had taken a lot of time and determination for her to break down Haruna's walls. The two of them had started dating when they were in their second year of high school. They continued their relationship after high school as both of them went to the same university in Utsunomiya. After they graduated from university, Haruna was offered a very good job opportunity in Tokyo. Yuko told Haruna to follow her dreams and that she would wait for Haruna. Since then, they had begun their long distance relationship. They would try to see each as often as their schedules would allow them and they would always talk and message each other.
"Long distance relationship is so hard." Atusko sighed, feeling sorry for her best friend.
"Tokyo and Utsunomiya are only 2 hours away from each other. Why can't Yuko-chan just visit Haruna-chan more often?"
"Haruna's job keeps her quite busy, so she doesn't have a lot of free time on her hand. And Yuu-chan can't just abandon her grandfather and this supermarket."
"That’s true..." Yuki shook her head. "Poor Yuko-chan."
"Well, Haruna's plans are not finalized yet, so maybe she will still be able to come home this year."
"I hope so."
"Anyway, I'm going to take the cakes to Yuu-chan."
"Okay." Yuki replied as she glanced at the clock on the wall. "I'm going to finish closing up and then I will be right there."
"We will wait for you."
Yuki watched as Atsuko walked to the office at the back of the supermarket, then she turned around to continue to close up the supermarket. She closed out the cash registers and locked the doors. She looked around the store to see if she was missing anything and her glance fell on the Christmas tree that they had put up in the store.
"There's only 12 days until Christmas. I hope that this will be a good Christmas..."
Yuki looked at the tree once more before joining Yuko and Atsuko in the office.
Day 01 End
Note: Wow, for a Kojiyuu story, Haruna and Yuko sure didn't appear that much in this chapter. LOL! Anway, just for clarification, Utsunomiya is the capital of Tochigi prefecture. Tochigi is where Yuko was from. 8)

Day 02: December 15th
Tokyo
Kojima Haruna placed the cup of coffee on the desk and sat down in her seat. She had not been sleeping well lately as there were a lot on her mind. She picked up the picture frame that was on her desk and traced a finger around Yuko's face.
She had been really busy lately, so she had not been back to Utsunomiya in about 2 months. She had really missed Yuko.
"Good morning, Haruna!"
Haruna looked up as her two co-workers, Minegishi Minami and Takahashi Minami, sat down at their desks.
"Good morning Mii-chan, Takamina."
Haruna, Mii-chan and Minami worked as junior writers at a life style magazine in Tokyo. The three of them had entered the company around the same and had become good friends very quickly. Mii-chan had a bubbly personality. There was never a dull moment when she was around. Minami, on the other hand, was a very responsible person and she would always try to help other people. However, unfortunately for her, most of her attempts would end up failing, hence making her the perfect victim of Mii-chan's jokes.
"There's just about 10 days until Christmas! I'm so excited!" Mii-chan said happily.
Minami shook her head in amusement as Mii-chan started to hum a Christmas carol.
Just then, their editor, Tachibana Hiroshi, walked out of his office and saw the three of them. "Kojima-san, Takahashi-san, Minegishi-san, the three of you are here early."
"Good morning, Tachibana-san!"
"Ah, Kojima-san, may I have a word please?" Tachibana-san asked.
Haruna nodded and walked into his office.
Mii-chan waited until the door was closed before turning to Minami. "Did you hear about Haruna's promotion?"
Minami shook her head. "What promotion?"
"The upper management is really impressed with Haruna's last couple articles, so they have offered her a higher position in the London office."
"London, England?" Minami asked with a shocked expression.
"How many Londons do you know?" Mii-chan rolled her eyes in response to Minami's silly question. "Of course, London, England."
"Wow!" Minami was really impressed.
"Are you sad now?"
"What do you mean?"
"Your crush is going to be leaving Tokyo."
"I... I have... no idea... what you are... talking about." Minami stuttered.
"Yeah, right." Mii-chan smirked. "Do you have no shame? Having a crush on a woman who's already taken."
"Stop it! I don't have a crush on Paru!" Minami denied, her face turning red. "And besides, like you said, she already has a girlfriend."
"I'm just teasing you. You are so gullible."
"Mii-chan, do you think Paru will take the promotion?"
"It will be really hard for her to turn it down. I mean it's like a dream come true." Mii-chan replied. "The only down side is that it will take her even further away from her girlfriend."
Minami nodded in agreement as Haruna walked out of Tachibana-san's office and returned to her seat. Haruna remained quiet as the two Minamis shared a look.
"Hey Takamina, let's go grab a coffee before work starts!" Mii-chan spoke up.
"Okay." Minami turned to Haruna. "Do you need anything, Paru?"
Haruna shook her head. "I'm fine. I already have my coffee."
"Okay then, we'll be right back." Minami picked up her purse and left the room with Mii-chan.
Haruna looked at the clock and realized she still had a bit of time before she had to start working. So, she picked up her cell phone and dialled a familiar number. After a few rings, someone picked up the phone.
"Moshi moshi?"
"Yuu-chan?"
"Nyan Nyan!"
Haruna smiled when she heard the voice of her girlfriend. She felt calm and at ease listening to Yuko's voice. "I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to call you yesterday."
"That's fine! I know that Nyan Nyan is really busy."
"How is Oji-chan doing?"
"He's been doing better the last couple of days." Yuko paused before adding softly. "Nyan Nyan, I miss you."
"I miss you too, Yuu-chan." Haruna felt a tight bang in her heart. "I'm sorry but I don't know if I can come home for Christmas yet."
"Don't worry, I will wait for you." Yuko whispered softly.
"Thanks, Yuu-chan." Haruna let out a soft sigh and decided to change the topic. "So, what are you doing today?"
"Today? Hmm, I have an appointment with a new supplier. They specialize in instant noodles."
"Instant noodles? So, you get to do some taste testing then?"
"Yup and I think that they have some really interesting flavours so I'm looking forward to that." The usual enthusiasm returned to Yuko's voice. "But then afterwards, I have to attend the community business owners' meeting. The meeting is going to be looong. Last time, the meeting took three hours..."
Haruna picked up the picture frame again. She looked at Yuko's face in the photograph as she continued to listen to Yuko talked with a smile on her face.

Poor Yuki and Acchan.
KojiYuu is so loving.
Haruna sure having difficult decision, going London or not.
Think if she is going over to London, the distance between KojiYuu will be even longer and she won't force Yuko to go over with her and she will miss her even more.
She had been really busy lately, so she had not been back to Utsunomiya in about 2 months. She had really missed Yuko.

@kahem: Poor Takamina! Everyone loves making fun of her...
@yukofan: Thanks for reading! Here's the next part!
Day 03: December 16th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
Yuko walked down the hallway of her home holding a cup of warm water. She stopped in front of a room and knocked softly on the door.
"Please come in."
Yuko slid open the door and stepped into the room.
"Here Jiji, it's time for your medication."
Yuko put the cup down on the bedside cabinet and gently helped the elderly man sat up in the bed. She picked up the cup again and handed the medication to her grandfather.
Oshima Kentaro accepted the pills from his granddaughter and put them into his mouth. He drank some water and gave the cup back to Yuko. Yuko put down the cup and began to fix Kentaro's blankets.
"Are you comfortable, Jiji?"
"Yes, thank you Yuko." Kentaro answered with a soft smile.
"It's getting colder now. If you need more blankets, just tell me."
"I will." Kentaro sighed. "Don't fuss so much about me. I'm just getting old, Yuko."
"No, you are not." Yuko shook her head. "Jiji, you are still very young."
Kentaro laughed. "You don't have to flatter me. I know that my time is coming soon."
"Don't say that!" Yuko protested.
"I'm just happy to know that once I'm gone, you will still have Atsuko-chan, Yuki-chan and especially Haruna-chan by your side."
"Jiji..."
"When I'm gone, promise me that you will close down the supermarket and move to Tokyo, so you can be with Haruna-chan."
"No, I won't do that! You had put a lot of hard work into the supermarket. It's your heart and soul! I will not give it up so easily!"
"Yuko, I don't want to hold you back from following your heart."
"Don't worry about me, Jiji." Yuko held her grandfather's hand gently. "I'm going to be okay."
"You are a good child, Yuko. I'm really proud of you."
"It's because I have an amazing grandfather." Yuko kissed Kentaro softly on the cheek. "I love you, Jiji."
"I love you, too."
"It's getting late. You should get some rest."
Yuko helped Kentaro lay down on the bed and tucked the blanket securely around him.
"I'm going to leave the water here, in case you need it in the middle of the night."
"Okay. Have a good night, Yuko."
"Good night, Jiji."
Yuko turned off the lights and closed the door. She walked back to her room and quietly shut the door behind her. She turned on the bedside lamp and sat down on the floor. She looked up at the pictures that lined her shelves. They were pictures of people that she loved, like her parents, her grandfather, Atsuko, Yuki.
And Haruna.
Yuko's parents had passed away when she was only five years old. Her grandfather had to raise her all by himself. It was tough to juggle the duties of running a supermarket and being the guardian of young child, but somehow they had managed to make it work.
When her grandfather had handed over the supermarket to Yuko after her graduation from university, she thought that he would finally able to enjoy life. Unfortunately, he had suffered a stroke about a year ago and he had been bedridden since then. During the day time, when Yuko was busy with the supermarket, she had hired a caretaker to take care of her grandfather. After work, she would go home right away. She had hardly gone out with her friends since her grandfather’s stroke. Once in awhile, Yuki and Atsuko would come over and they would have a dinner party at her home.
When Haruna first left for Tokyo, Yuko really thought that they could make their long distance relationship work. She would visit Haruna on weekends and once in awhile, she would stay in Tokyo for an longer period of time. With Yuki looking after the supermarket, Yuko really didn't have anything to worry about. However, things changed when her grandfather got sick. She couldn't go to Tokyo and visit Haruna as often as she wanted to, since she didn't want to trouble other people with the responsibility of looking after her grandfather.
Both Haruna and her grandfather were very important to her, so she was trying really hard to hold onto both of them.
She knew that she was being selfish. Haruna was working hard on chasing after her dreams in Tokyo. She deserved someone who could be there by her side to share her happiness and her sadness. Someone who could provide comfort and support whenever she needed it. And Yuko knew that she could not be that someone because she could not leave Utsunomiya. She could not abandon her grandfather. She thought many times about setting Haruna free, but in the end, she knew that she could not let Haruna go.
She loved Haruna so much that it hurt her to be without the other woman.
She wished that there could be way for everything to work out. A way so that she was not torn between the two most important people in her life.
But she knew that was impossible.
A lone tear rolled down Yuko's face as she continued to look at the pictures on the shelves, thinking about a woman that was always on her mind.
A woman that was far, far away from her.
Day 03 End
-
Oh Kaoru-chan,
this 3rd present of Christmas is surely   Both Haruna and her grandfather were very important to her, so she was trying really hard to hold onto both of them. She thought many times about setting Haruna free, but in the end, she knew that she could not let Haruna go.She loved Haruna so much that it hurt her to be without the other woman.
The above make me sob.
It's truely difficult to balance the two, knowing she's selfish but it's really the heart that goes by the flow. There's no selfish in anything that one love, I think.
Seems like both are facing problems of their own.
@luckymmsg: Very good catch! You will actually find out more about Yuko's situation in this part.
You sure had make me understand her situation. Looking forward for the 4th Day.
-
Awww poor yuuchan you are suffer so much... Im thinking about a solutions but.. its so difficult T_T
-
Yuko T_T, she is a good person
-
@luckymmsg: I'm sorry the story is a little sad right now. It will get better soon... I hope :P
@Haruko: It is a difficult situation to be in. Poor Yuko...
@kahem: Yuko is perfect... Except when she's being a pervert! XD
Day 04: December 17th
Tokyo
Haruna walked aimlessly along the busy streets in Tokyo. It was after work but she didn't want to go back home yet. Her apartment was lonely and quiet, and it made her missed Utsunomiya even more. Utsunomiya was home to her, even though her parents had already moved away from the city after she had left for Tokyo.
Utsunomiya held many special memories for her. It was the place where she had made a lot of good friends. It was also where she had really explored her love for writing.
Most importantly, Yuko was in Utsunomiya.
Haruna looked her watch and decided that she should eat dinner before returning to her apartment. She stopped in front of a noodle shop and decided to try it out. She walked into the small shop and was greeted by the shopkeeper. The middle-aged man led her to a seat on the counter, next to a young woman with short hair. She sat down and waited for her order of seafood soba to come.
After a few minutes, the man placed a bowl of soba in front her. Haruna thanked the man and began to eat her food. She kept her head down and ate her food without paying much attention to her surroundings. She was almost finished her soba when she looked up and noticed the woman next to her was browsing through some pictures on her handheld tablet. There were many different kinds of pictures. There were pictures of people, pictures of animals and pictures of nature. The pictures were very pretty. The woman stopped at a picture of the sunset and Haruna couldn't help but feel mesmerized.
"That's beautiful."
Haruna didn't realize that she had said her thoughts out loud until the other woman looked up and stared at her.
"Ah, I'm really sorry." Haruna apologized with a bow. "I didn't mean to startle you."
"It's okay." The woman shook her head. "I just didn't realize you were looking at the pictures too."
"Are you a photographer? Your pictures are very pretty." Haruna asked as she pointed to the pictures on the tablet.
"Yes, I am." The other woman nodded. "I love taking pictures. I guess I see life through my lenses."
"I sort of feel the same way as you. I'm a writer."
"I see. Hey, where do you think is the most beautiful place?" The woman asked suddenly.
"Eh? The most beautiful place?" Haruna asked, confused by the sudden question.
The woman smiled. "The most beautiful place to me is here." She pointed to a picture on the tablet. "Home."
"Home?"
"Home is where the heart is. It is the anchor to your life."
Haruna remained silent as the woman continued.
"I used to travel around a lot for my job. I love it but it takes me away from home. So, I decided to start up an internet based e-magazine with my friends. We do features about interesting events or people all around the country. Once in awhile, I still have to travel around, but most of the time I would be home."
"That sounds wonderful." Haruna answered as she smiled. The woman reminded Haruna a lot of Yuko, from the sparkle in the eyes when she talked to the energy and enthusiasm that she possessed.
"How about you? You said that you are a writer. Do you like your job?"
"I have loved writing since I was a small child. It gives me a chance to express my feelings. I was very fortunate to have this job that allows me to do what I love."
"I sense a but in there." The woman looked at Haruna knowingly.
Haruna was startled by the intuitiveness of the woman. "I love my job but it takes me away from home, away from a very important person."
"Everything can't be perfect in life. You win some, you lose some." The woman shrugged her shoulders.
"I actually have just been given a chance to work abroad. It's the chance I have been wanting since I have entered my company." Haruna did not know why, but it felt so easy to talk to this woman.
"But you are torn because you will be even farther away from home."
"I know that if I take this opportunity, then I will have to..." Haruna paused and looked down at her lap. "I will have to let this person go."
"It sounds like you really love this person."
Haruna looked back up at the woman and nodding softly. "Yes, I do."
"So, I guess you have to decide which one is more important. Your dream or the person you love." The other woman winced. "Wow, that's tough."
Suddenly, a loud beep interrupted their conversation. The woman took out her cell phone and read the message that she had just received.
"Such an impatient person! Always rushing me!" The woman complained. "I swear she's like my mother!"
Haruna was not sure what the woman was talking about so she just nodded politely.
"Anyway, it's been nice talking to you." The woman gathered her belongings and stood up. "I hope that everything will work out for you."
"Thank you."
"Oh yes!" The woman took out a business card and handed it to Haruna. "Here's my card. Give me a call some time. Maybe we will have a chance to work with each other in the future."
Haruna took the card and nodded. She watched as the other woman left the store. She looked down at the business card and thought about what the woman had said.
"Home is where the heart is..."
Day 04 End
Note: Any guesses on who the woman is?

Day 05: December 18th
Tokyo
"What are you getting me for Christmas?" Mii-chan asked as she walked into the office with Minami.
"I'm not telling you!" Minami replied.
"Just a small hint?" Mii-chan continued to push. "A teeny, tiny hint?"
"No." Minami answered firmly. She put down her bag on her desk and glanced at the empty desk across from her. "Where's Paru? She's usually here earlier than us."
Mii-chan scanned the office. "Maybe she got stuck in traffic this morning?"
Just as they were wondering where Haruna was, they heard a door opening. Minami and Mii-chan turned towards the sound to see Haruna and Tachibana-san walking out of the editor's office.
"I'm really sad to see you go." Tachibana sighed softly. "We are going to miss you here, Kojima-san."
Haruna bowed softly. "Thank you so much for everything you had done for me."
"I guess Haruna has decided to take the promotion in London after all." Mii-chan whispered to Minami as they continued to listen to the conversation between Haruna and their editor.
Minami nodded silently. She couldn't help but feel a little bit sad that Haruna would be leaving the company.
"We will talk about the arrangements later." Tachibana-san smiled. "Enjoy your Christmas vacation!"
"Thank you very much, Tachibana-san"
Haruna walked towards her desk and noticed the two Minamis looking at her. "Good morning."
"Good morning, Haruna!" Mii-chan answered.
"Morning."
Haruna sat down in her seat. She noticed her co-workers were still looking at her.
"Is there something wrong?"
Mii-chan shook her head quickly. "Nothing's wrong. Right, Takamina?"
"Huh? Ah... Yeah... Um, nothing's wrong." Minami stuttered.
"Okay." Haruna said, not really believing them but decided to let it go. "Oh yeah, I know it's last minute, but how would the two of you like to spend Christmas with me in Utsunomiya?"
"You have decided to go home for Christmas?" Minami asked.
"Yeah, I've finally sorted out my schedule." Haruna replied softly. "I haven't really been back in a two months and I really missed seeing Yuko."
"Hmm..." Mii-chan thought for a moment. "Sure, why not? My family will be going Nagoya to stay with my grandparents for Christmas. They will be staying there until after the New Year's, and I couldn't go with them because I have that interview on New Year's Eve. It will be nice to spend Christmas with a group of people rather than alone."
"Great!" Haruna turned to Minami. "How about you Takamina?"
"I actually haven't been to Utsunomiya before, so sure, count me in!"
"It's settled then!" Haruna smiled warmly. "Yuko will be happy to know that the two of you will be spending Christmas in Utsunomiya as well. She always loves having more people around."
"I'm really looking forward to Christmas now!" Mii-chan said.
"I need to buy some Christmas gifts to bring back home. Do you want to go shopping with me after work?"
"Sure, I have no plans after work." Mii-chan replied. "Takamina?"
"Yeah, I'm free."
"We'll go after work then." Haruna said as the three of them started to work.
After work was over, the three of them left their office and went to big department store nearby. The store was filled with holiday shoppers. Haruna led them through the maze of people and straight to the electronics section. She stopped in front of the coffee makers display and started to study the different kinds of coffee makers.
"I thought you wanted to buy a Christmas present. Why are we looking at coffee makers?" Minami asked.
"Oh, my coffee maker is really old, so I need to buy a new one. I'm thinking now would be a good time too..."
The two Minamis shared a look as they understood the reason why Haruna needed a new coffee maker.
"Oh look! This one looks very good!" Haruna walked closer to the display to read the product description. "It's very compact and easy to use. It can make two cups, which is perfect!"
Haruna turned around to face her co-workers. "I'm going to talk to the sales lady about this coffee maker."
"Takamina and I are going to look at some clothes over there. How about you meet us there when you are done?" Mii-chan suggested.
Haruna nodded. "Okay."
Haruna watched the two of them walked away from her, and then she pulled out a small notebook from her bag. There was so much to do now that she had made a decision. But amongst the list of things, the most important and most difficult of all was how to break the news to Yuko.
It was a difficult decision and she was not sure how Yuko was going to take the news, but at least she would be going home soon for Christmas.
Home to Utsunomiya.
Home to Yuko.

Day 06: December 19th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
"Yukirin! Yukirin!"
Yuki looked up from the report that she was reading to see Yuko running into the office.
"Haruna is coming home for Christmas tomorrow!" Yuko announced with a bright smile on her face.
"That's great!" Yuki replied, feeling really happy for her best friend.
Yuko nodded. "She called me and told me last night! This is going to be the best Christmas ever!"
Yuki shook her head as she watched Yuko danced around the office. Finally, Yuko stopped dancing and sat down at her desk. She picked up a picture of Haruna and her and hugged the frame close to her chest.
"Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way..."
Yuko rolled her eyes as Yuko started to sing Christmas carols. "I have been friends with you since kindergarten and I don't know how I managed to stay sane during all this time."
"Hey!" Yuko pouted.
"Now that you are here, I'm going to go and deliver the tea to Watanabe-san." Yuki said as she picked up a small box from her desk.
"Oh, you mean you are going to see Mayuyu!" Yuko said with a teasing smile.
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Yuki gave Yuko a hard stare.
"Have you asked her out yet?" Yuko ignore Yuki's look and continued to press.
Just then, Atsuko walked into the office carrying a small box. "Asking who out?"
"Acchan!" Yuko walked over to Atsuko and hugged her happily. "What are you doing here?"
"I brought some Christmas cakes for the two of you." Atsuko walked over to Yuko's desk and put the cakes down. "What were you guys talking about?"
"Yukirin is going to see Mayuyu."
"No, I'm not!" Yuki denied. "I'm just going to drop off the tea for Watanabe-san."
Atsuko took out some plates and forks from the cabinet. "I've brought a few extra pieces of cake over, maybe you can bring some to Watanabe-san and Mayuyu."
"Not you too, Acchan!"
Atsuko laughed as she sat down in the lounge chair in the office and started to eat the cake.
Yuki took out a plastic container and put two pieces of cake inside as Yuko settled at her desk with her piece of cake.
"Oh yeah, Yuko-chan, I have left the contract with Takada Distributions on your desk." Yuki said as she put on her jacket. "We were able to lower the price by 70 yen."
"Really?" Yuko said in surprise. "Wow Yuki, you are amazing! When I talked to Takada, that man wouldn't even budge 1 yen!"
"I did get top marks in our negotiation class, so I guess that came in handy."
"Either that or you are really Black." Yuko smirked; referring to Yuki's other nickname.
"She's just Black." Atsuko spoke up suddenly, mischief evident in her eyes.
Yuki let out a frustrated sigh and picked up her bag. "Okay, I'm going to visit Watanabe-san now."
"Wow, you really can't wait to see Mayuyu!" Yuko looked at Atsuko and the two of them began to laugh.
"What am I going to do with the two of you? Anyway, I will be back soon." Yuki said as she walked out of the office. "Save me a piece of cake!"
"Poor Yukirin." Atsuko said as she finished her piece of cake.
"So, what about you, Acchan?" Yuko asked as she turned her attention to Atsuko. "Have you found someone special yet?"
"Me? I'm hopeless." Atsuko shook her head. "You and Yukirin have set the bar too high for me."
"What do you mean?"
"I want somebody who can take care of me like Yukirin can and someone who can make me laugh like you can." Atsuko explained. "See, I'm doomed."
Yuko laughed. "You never know, Acchan. Maybe there is such a person out there."
"Well, if you know someone like that, let me know then."
"I will do that." Yuko said then her face brightened up. "Oh yeah, Haruna will be coming back for Christmas with her two co-workers."
"Really? When?" Atsuko asked.
"Tomorrow." Yuko replied. "Originally they were just going to stay for the 2 days around Christmas, but since they still have some vacation time left this year, they have decided to stay a few more days in Utsunomiya."
"Are they staying at your place?"
"Unfortunately, no." Yuko shook her head. "They will be staying at a hotel. I told Nyan Nyan that they can all stay at my place, but she said since her co-workers will be coming too, she doesn’t want to bother Jiji. I told her that it's not a problem, but she insisted."
Yuko paused then added softly. "It almost seems like she doesn't want to stay at my house."
"Hmm, what do you mean?" Atsuko asked, confused.
Yuko shook her head. "Ah, never mind."
"Okay." Atsuko was still confused by Yuko's comment, but decided to let it go.
Yuko walked back to her desk and leaned back in the chair.
"I can't wait until tomorrow!" Yuko closed her eyes as a bright smile appeared on her face. "This is going to be a great Christmas after all!"

Awww. xD Yuko it's not like that. Maybe Haruna just doesn't want to get caught in a compromising situation with you by her two co-workers or she'll never hear the end of it. 8DDDD.

Day 07: December 20th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
"Thank you for shopping with us!" Yuki smiled politely at the customer. "Please come back again soon."
Yuki frowned as she watched the customer nearly ran into a person pacing around the front entrance.
"Yuko-chan, I know that it's nearing closing time, but you are still disturbing our customers by walking back and forth at the entrance." Yuki said from her position at the front counter.
Yuko turned around. "They are late! Their train arrived over a hour ago!"
"Didn't you say they have to check in and drop off their luggage at the hotel first? Maybe they got held up?"
"And Nyan Nyan wouldn’t answer my calls!" Yuko said as she threw daggers at her phone. "Where are they?"
Yuki gave up and returned to what she was doing before. She just hoped that Haruna would arrive soon before Yuko exploded.
Just then, one of their employees, Matsubara Natsumi, called out Yuko's name.
"Yuko-chan, there's a phone call for you."
"Now? Who is it?"
"It's Sashihara-san from the community centre." Natsumi answered. "She said she wanted to talk to you about the children's fair the supermarket is sponsoring after the New Year's."
Yuko looked at the entrance, trying to decide whether or not to take the call.
"Why don't you go and take the call?" Yuki spoke up. "Maybe Haruna-chan will arrive when you finish the call."
Yuko remained silent for a few seconds before nodding. "Okay, I'll take the call. I will be really quick!"
Yuki watched Yuko followed Natsumi to the office and let out a sigh of relief as she could have a few minutes of peace. Just then, someone else called her name.
"Kashiwagi-chan!"
Yuki looked up to see Haruna walking into the supermarket with two people behind her.
"Haruna-chan!" Yuki walked out from behind the counter and gave Haruna a hug. "You know you are the only person that calls me by that name."
"Where's Yuu-chan?" Haruna asked as she looked around the supermarket.
"You are anxious to see her too, huh?" Yuki said with a teasing smile. "Up to a few minutes ago, she was actually guarding the door, waiting for you to come. She's taking a call in the office right now; she should be back very soon."
"Ah, I see." Haruna nodded. "Kashiwagi-chan, let me introduce you to my co-workers, Minegishi Minami and Takahashi Minami."
"Hello, we are the W Minamis." Mii-chan said. "I usually go by Mii-chan and you can call her Minami or Takamina."
Yuki chuckled at Mii-chan's introductions. "It's very nice to meet the both of you. My name is Kashiwagi Yuki. You can call me Yuki or Yukirin."
"Kashiwagi-chan is one of Yuko's best friends." Haruna explained. "You will meet the other person at dinner tonight."
Just then, Yuko walked into the main entrance area and her eyes lit up when she saw Haruna.
"Nyan Nyan!" Yuko ran over and embraced Haruna in a hug.
"Yuko!" Haruna wrapped her arms tightly around Yuko.
"Nyan Nyan, I've missed you."
"I've missed you too." Haruna replied softly.
Yuko closed her eyes and inhaled in Haruna's familiar scent. She started to rub her face against Haruna's assets and her hand started to travel south to touch Haruna's butt.
"Yuko, not here!" Haruna pulled back and hit Yuko softly on the forehead.
"But I've missed touching you too!" Yuko whined.
"Okay guys, I hope the you of two realize that you have an audience."
"Mii-chan, it's always nice to see you. Oh you too, Takamidget!"
“Hey!" Minami said.
"I don't feel very welcome right now. You haven't even come over and give me a hug."
"I'm sorry Mii-chan, but as you can see, I'm sort of busy right now." Yuko replied, not moving from her position in Haruna's arms.
"Fine, stay with your Nyan Nyan!"
"Oh all right!" Yuko walked over and gave Mii-chan a hug. "Happy, now?"
"Yes, thank you."
Haruna smiled as she watched her girlfriend and co-worker.
"How was the train ride?" Yuko asked as she walked back to stand next to Haruna. She picked up Haruna's hand and entwined their fingers together.
"It's not so crowded, so that was good."
"You guys must be hungry?" Yuki asked as she looked at the clock on the wall.
"I'm so glad that you had asked!" Mii-chan answered.
Yuki laughed at Mii-chan's response. "Well, we just have to close up here, and then we can go for dinner."
"Ah Yukirin, do you mind closing up?" Yuko asked Yuki.
"Sure, it's not a problem."
"Thanks Yukirin! Nyan Nyan, why don't you stay here and follow Yukirin to the restaurant? Acchan will be meeting us there."
"What about you?"
"I'm going to go home first, then I will meet you guys at the restaurant."
"Is everything okay with Oji-chan?" Haruna asked with a slight frown.
Yuko shook her head. "Everything is fine. I just want to make sure that he has everything that he needs."
"Why don't I go with you?"
"It's okay." Yuko reassured Haruna. "I won't take very long. I will see you guys at the restaurant."
Yuko waved goodbye and walked out of the supermarket.
Once Yuko left, Haruna turned to Yuki. "Kashiwagi-chan, is everything okay with Oji-chan?"
"I think so.” Yuki replied as she nodded. “At least Yuko-chan didn't mention anything to me today. But Yuko-chan worries about Oji-chan whenever she has to go out in the evening, so she usually checks on him beforehand."
“I see."
"Why don't you guys go wait in the office?" Yuki suggested as she pointed towards the office. "We can go once I'm finished closing up."
"Okay." Haruna nodded. "We will wait for you then."
They went into the office and waited for Yuki to finish with her job. Once everything was done, Yuki led them out of the supermarket and onto the street. They walked a few block and stopped in front of a small restaurant called 'Mariko's'.
"I hope that you guys like don." Yuki turned to the group and smiled.
"Takamin loves katsudon." Mii-chan pointed to Minami.
"Well, then you are going to love it here."
The group walked into the small restaurant and Yuki noticed Atsuko sitting in a corner, eating a plate of food.
"You are eating already?" Yuki shook her head in amusement. She knew how much Atsuko loved food.
"I'm just doing some taste testing for Mariko!" Atsuko denied. Just then, her face lit up. "Haruna!"
Atsuko stood up and hugged Haruna.
"Hey, Acchan! How have you been?"
"I've been good!" Atsuko smiled happily. "It's nice to see you back!"
Suddenly, a tall woman walked out from the kitchen. "Oh, everyone is here already?"
"Mari-chan!" Haruna ran over to the newcomer and embraced the tall woman in a hug.
"Welcome back, Nyaro!" The tall woman patted Haruna softly on the head.
"I'm really sorry to interrupt this family reunion..." Mii-chan raised her hand. "But would anybody care to do a little introduction?"
"Oh, I'm so sorry Mii-chan. I got so excited that I had forgotten. Mari-chan, Acchan, these two are my co-workers, Minegishi Minami and Takahashi Minami." Haruna pointed to the woman next to her. "This person here is the owner of this restaurant, Shinoda Mariko. And the person over there still eating is Maeda Atsuko. She's Yuko's other best friend."
"Stop making fun of me!" Atsuko stuck her tongue.
"I miss you too, Acchan."
"Well, welcome to Mariko's. I hope that you will enjoy tonight's dinner." Mariko smiled warmly at the group. Suddenly, she noticed that there was somebody missing. "Hey, where's the squirrel?"
"Squirrel?" Minami asked.
"That's Mariko-sama’s nickname for Yuko-chan." Yuki answered. "Because Mariko-sama said that Yuko-chan resembles a squirrel."
"Haruna, I like your friends. They are such interesting people!"
Everybody laughed at Mii-chan's comment.
"So, we are just missing that squirrel?" Mariko asked.
"Who's talking about me?" Yuko said as she walked into the restaurant.
"Speak of the squirrel!" Mariko continued as she ignored the look from Yuko. "Anyway, I have prepared a number of different kinds of don for you. Let me go and bring it out."
Mariko went back into the kitchen as the group settled into their seats. Minami sat down next to Atsuko and noticed that the other woman had dropped her purse onto the floor. She
picked it up and carefully cleaned it with a napkin.
"Atsuko-san, you had dropped your purse." Minami handed the purse back to Atsuko. "There was a bit of dust on it, but I had cleaned it off for you."
"Thank you so much, Minami-san. That's kind of you."
Minami shook her head. "It's nothing."
Just then, Mariko brought out the food and the group began to eat. As they ate the food, they kept a nice conversation flowing. Yuko looked around the table and was glad to see that everybody was having a good time.
"Nyan Nyan?"
Haruna turned to Yuko. "Hmm?"
"Welcome home." Yuko whispered softly.
Haruna squeezed Yuko's hand softly. "I'm happy to be home."
It was the happiest Yuko had felt in a long while, mainly due to the person who was sitting next to her.
It was the best start to the Christmas holidays she could have ever asked for.
Day 07 End
Note: So, Mariko-sama makes her appearance! And Takamina meets Acchan! What will happen next... 8)

Day 08: December 21st
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
Haruna stood in front of a familiar house in the early morning. She smiled when she saw the sign that read 'Oshima' hanging from on the front gate. She walked to the front door and rang the door bell.
After a few seconds, a woman with shoulder length hair opened the door.
"Good morning." The woman smiled politely. "May I help you?"
"Ah, I'm looking for Oshima Yuko." Haruna asked hesitantly.
"Micha, who is it?" Yuko asked as she walked to the front door. A bright smile appeared on her face when she saw Haruna standing here. "Nyan Nyan!"
"Good morning, Yuu-chan."
"What are you doing here so early?" Yuko asked as she gave Haruna a hug.
"I wanted to see Oji-chan and I thought I could go to the supermarket afterwards and help out a bit."
Yuko shook her head. "You are on vacation! You should relax. Go do some sightseeing with Mii-chan and Takamina."
"The two of them are still sleeping. They are planning to go sightseeing around the city later, but I already know the city very well so I don't need to explore more. Besides, I just want to spend some time with you."
Yuko reached for Haruna's hand and gave it a squeeze. "Nyan Nyan..."
"Ahem."
The two of them snapped out of their trance and turned to the other person standing in the hallway.
"Micha! I'm so sorry! Let me introduce you. Nyan Nyan, this is Jiji's caretaker, Nonato Misato. Micha, this is Kojima Haruna."
"Kojima-san, it's nice to finally meet you." Misato shook Haruna's hand. "I have heard a lot about you."
"It's nice to meet you, too." Haruna smiled warmly.
"So I guess I know why Yuko-chan has been so happy all morning." Misato said in a teasing voice.
"Micha!" Yuko protested.
Haruna blushed. "Hey, Yuu-chan, is Oji-chan up already?"
Yuko nodded. "Yup, he is up already. Why don't you go and see him while I finish preparing his breakfast with Micha?"
"Okay." Haruna nodded as she excused herself. She walked out of the front entrance and down the familiar hallway. She stopped in front of Yuko's grandfather's room and knocked softly.
"Please come in."
Haruna slid the door open and stepped into the room. She smiled brightly when she saw the man sitting on the bed.
"Oji-chan!"
"Ah, Haruna-chan!" Kentaro smiled warmly when he saw Haruna. "Yuko didn't tell me that you have come back."
Haruna walked closer to the bed and sat down in the chair next to it. "I just came back last night."
"Are you going to be staying long?"
"I'm just back for the Christmas holidays. I have to leave after Christmas since I have some affairs to take care of in Tokyo before the year end."
"I see." Kentaro nodded. "I'm sure that Yuko is very happy to see you."
"She is. I'm really happy to her too."
"That's good. Yuko is always happier when you are around. Every time after you leave, she would cry in her room. She tries to hide it from me but I could tell."
"I'm sorry, Ojii-chan, for hurting your granddaughter." Haruna looked down at her lap.
Kentaro shook his head. "Sometimes, I wonder if I'm the one who is holding Yuko back. If it's not for me, Yuko would have gone to Tokyo with you."
"Oji-chan..."
"When Yuko was younger, she used to talk about what she wanted to be when she grew up all the time. But as she got older, she had stopped. Maybe she realized that she had to take care of the supermarket."
Haruna remained silent as she listened to Yuko's grandfather talked.
"I want my granddaughter to be happy and I know she is happy when she is with you."
Haruna was about to answer when Yuko appeared in the doorway.
"What are the two of you talking about?"
Yuko walked closer to the bed and stood behind Haruna.
"About you, of course." Kentaro replied with a smile.
"Must be good things then." Yuko said as she wrapped her arms around Haruna.
"Why's that?" Haruna asked as she reached up and held Yuko's hand with her own.
"Because I'm perfect so there's nothing bad for you to talk about."
"In your dreams!" Haruna poked Yuko's dimple with her finger.
Kentaro chuckled softly at their interaction.
"The breakfast is prepared, Jiji. Micha will be bringing it to you in a little while. I'm going to go to the supermarket now. If you need anything, just tell Micha or give me a call on my cell."
"Don't worry so much, Yuko. I'll fine here with Misato-chan."
Haruna stood up and bowed slightly. "I'm going to go with Yuu-chan. I will come back again to see you, Oji-chan."
"I look forward to your next visit, Haruna-chan. We will talk some more then."
"Goodbye, Jiji."
Yuko took Haruna's hand and they walked out of Kentaro's room. They went to the kitchen and after saying goodbye to Misato, the two of them left Yuko's house. They walked along with the street chatting about different things. It was a very cold morning, but Yuko did not feel cold at all. Maybe because Haruna was there next to her. It made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. The usual walk from her house to the supermarket seemed shorter with Haruna by her side.
They arrived at the supermarket and opened the gate. Haruna helped Yuko prepared everything for the opening. The other staffs arrived one by one and they opened the supermarket right on time. Haruna went around the supermarket and helped out the various areas wherever needed. The staffs were very nice people and Haruna really enjoyed working around the supermarket.
Just as she was re-stocking the inventory, she heard someone calling her.
"Hey Nyaro!"
Haruna looked up to see Mariko walking down the aisle. "Mari-chan!"
"The squirrel working you already?"
Haruna shook her head. "I didn't want to sit around and do nothing, so I offered to help."
"Nyan Nyan, I..." Yuko was calling out for Haruna when she noticed Mariko. "Oh, Mari-chan!"
"Being a slave driver, squirrel?"
"No, I'm not! I told Nyan Nyan that she doesn't have to be here, but she resisted. Anyway, what are you doing here?"
"I need to get some flour for the restaurant."
Yuko nodded at Mariko’s response when she noticed Yuki, who had just arrived at the supermarket.
"Good morning, Yuko-chan and Haruna-chan.” Yuki smiled. “Oh hey, Mariko-sama."
"Did you just drop off your Mayuyu at the university?" Mariko asked in teasing tone.
Yuki looked at Mariko in surprise. "Not you too! Who told you about Mayu?"
"Atsuko did."
"I've got to have a talk with Acchan. Anyway, Mayu is not my girlfriend."
"You have been going out with her, but you are still not calling her your girlfriend.” Yuko shook her head in disapproval. “How Black of you!"
"I haven't even asked her out yet!" Yuki answered quickly then she realized what she had just said.
"So, does it mean that you will eventually ask her out?" Mariko asked.
Yuki let out a long sigh. "Okay, I'm going to leave before the two of you drive me crazy. I'm going to go to the back room and check on the inventory for the noodles."
Mariko and Yuko gave each other a high five as Yuki walked away.
"The two of you, don't be so mean!" Haruna scolded.
"We are just trying to help her! She has the hots for Mayuyu, but she is just too scared to ask her out.” Yuko explained. “So, we are just trying to give her some gentle nudges in the right direction. Right, Mari-chan?"
"Yup!"
Haruna shook her head. "Okay, I’m going to leave you two here and see if Kashiwagi-chan needs any help."
Haruna left Yuko and Mariko and walked to the back of the supermarket. She found Yuki standing in front the shelves in the back room with a clipboard in her hand. She was checking the inventory with a frown on her face.
Haruna knocked softly on the door and walked into the room. "Kashiwagi-chan, are you okay?"
Yuki turned towards Haruna and nodded. "I'm okay, don't worry."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm not really mad at them. I guess I'm more mad at myself."
"What for?"
"Because they are right, I still haven't asked Mayu out yet. I... Um..." Yuki paused slightly. "I like Mayu, but I'm scared of how she is going to react if I confess to her."
Haruna smiled sympathetically. "Don't worry, Kashiwagi-chan. I'm sure that you will find your courage soon and everything will work out."
"Thank you, Haruna-chan." Yuki smiled before turning back to her clipboard. "So, how has your day been working at the supermarket?"
"Everyone here is so wonderful and so friendly."
"We are not a major supermarket, but we still manage to compete with the major chains mainly because of Yuko-chan. The staff and our customers love her."
"I know she puts a lot of effort into running this supermarket. This used to be Oji-chan's baby, but now it's becoming Yuu-chan's prized treasure."
"Yuko-chan wakes up very early in the morning since she is usually the one who opens the store. She will go home just before closing time to relief Misato-chan. Then she will cook dinner for Oji-chan and put him to bed. By the time, she is done with everything, it's very late. So, she doesn't really get a lot of rest each night."
Haruna frowned as Yuki continued.
"Even though she is tired, she would come into the supermarket each day full of energy. She is always smiling despite her tiredness. Yuko-chan is really an amazing person."
"Ne, Kashiwagi-chan, has Yuu-chan ever complained to you about struggling to balance between managing the supermarket and taking care of Oji-chan?"
Yuki shook her head softly. "Yuko-chan keeps a lot of things to herself. In front of everybody, she is always smiling. But I'm sure she is just putting up an act because she doesn't want other people to worry about her."
"She is quite stubborn when she wants to be."
"I tried to talk to her about it. I told her that she doesn't have to face everything by herself. She can share some of the burden with Acchan and me, but she keeps saying that she is fine and told us not to worry about her." Yuki sighed.
"Yuu-chan..." Haruna said in a worried tone.
Yuki smiled at Haruna. "I'm okay here. Why don't you go back to the office and see if Yuko-chan needs help?"
Haruna nodded in agreement. "Thanks, Kashiwagi-chan."
Haruna walked out of the back room and in the direction of the office.
"Yuu-chan..." Haruna walked into the office to see Yuko asleep on the desk, with various documents scattered around her.
Haruna stood by the door and watched Yuko for a little bit. Then she walked over and picked up Yuko's jacket that was lying on the couch. She gently put the jacket over Yuko. She gathered the documents that were on the table and put them into a neat pile next to Yuko. She walked back to the doorway and looked at Yuko's sleeping form for a few minutes before quietly closing the door behind her.

Day 09: December 22nd
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
Haruna flipped her cell phone closed and placed it on the bed. She looked at the papers that were scattered all over her hotel bed and sighed.
She never thought that there was so much to do. She had talked to Tachibana-san earlier about the arrangements for her departure, and then she had called her landlord about terminating the lease on her apartment. And she had just now finished arranging the details for her move with a moving company.
She looked at her notebook and crossed off the item that read, "Movers".
She knew that Yuko was not happy about her staying at a hotel instead of Yuko’s house, but there were so many things that Haruna needed to take care of without Yuko being around.
Haruna looked at the time on the front of her cell phone and realized that it was almost time for her to meet Yuko. She quickly gathered the documents and placed them neatly in a pile on the desk.
Haruna had convinced Yuko to take a break from the supermarket and go on a date with her. Since Yuko could not go out in the evening because to her grandfather, the two of them decided to go on a shopping date in the afternoon instead.
Haruna went to the bathroom to freshen up before quickly leaving her hotel room. Thirty minutes later, she arrived at the shopping mall. She walked to the meeting spot to find Yuko sitting on a bench by herself. The younger woman was crying and was using her hand to wipe away her tears. Upon seeing this, Haruna quickly walked over and sat down next to Yuko.
"Yuu-chan, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Nyan Nyan!" Yuko threw her arms around Haruna and hugged the taller woman tightly.
"Yuu-chan?" Haruna started to rub Yuko's back, trying to comfort her girlfriend.
"They were so mean to me!"
"Who?" Haruna asked in confusion.
"Those boys over there! They were teasing me with their balloons."
Haruna looked over to the corner to see two boys running away with balloons in their hands. Haruna looked back at Yuko who was still pouting and smiled. "You are not afraid of heights. You are not afraid of insects. Yet you are petrified about balloons."
"But balloons are dangerous! They can pop any time!"
Haruna gently wiped away the tears from Yuko's face with her finger. "Okay, you are right. They are dangerous."
"I'm having a bad day so far! First, my coffee maker wouldn't work, and now those boys were teasing me with their balloons!"
"You really cannot function without your daily coffee." Haruna shook her head in amusement. "Okay, there is a cafe over there. How about I buy you a cup of coffee?"
"Nyan Nyan is the best!"
"C'mon, you big baby!"
The two of them got up from the bench and walked over to the cafe. A few minutes later, Haruna walked out of the shop with a happy and satisfied Yuko.
"This coffee is so good!" Yuko drank another sip of her coffee. "Want to try, Nyan Nyan?"
Haruna shook her head. "I'm good, Yuu-chan."
The two of them walked around the crowded mall, taking in the festive mood.
"So, what did you get me for Christmas?" Yuko asked.
"I'm not going to tell you."
"Nyan Nyan..."
"Yuu-chan..." Haruna copied Yuko's tone of voice.
"Fine, be that way!" Yuko answered with a pout.
"You will find out soon enough anyway." Haruna looked at the Christmas decorations around them and sighed softly. "It's almost Christmas."
"I can't wait to find out what you have gotten me! But I know that I will love it anyway."
"Why are you so sure?"
"Because it's from you! I love anything from Nyan Nyan!"
Haruna smiled weakly as she remembered the news she still had to deliver to Yuko.
"C'mon, Nyan Nyan, let's go look at the dogs!"
Yuko took Haruna's hand and started to pull her towards the pet store.
Haruna decided to just enjoy the time she got to spend with Yuko now, and worry about the other things later.
It's been awhile since they had been out like this, so she was going to treasure it.
Day 09 End

This make me think that Haruna had bought the coffee maker for Yuko. (Am I imagining something? :? )
It's been awhile since they had been out like this, so she was going to treasure it.
But this line make me think oherwise.
Oh Kaoru-chan, you sure is a great writer that make me longing to read the story. :twothumbs :twothumbs

@kahem: Well, Yuko can't leave because of her grandfather... :(
Day 10: December 23rd
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
"Takamina, can you please pass me the markers?" Yuko asked as she pointed to the set of markers that were sitting on her desk.
Minami picked up the markers and passed it to Yuko. "Here you go."
"Thanks. I'm sorry that you have to help me with this on your vacation."
"It's not a problem. It's quite enjoyable actually." Minami paused then added. "And I need a break from all the sightseeing Mii-chan is making me do."
Yuko laughed. Yuko was working on the preparations for the children's fair that the supermarket was sponsoring. Mii-chan and Minami had stopped by the supermarket and they decided to help out for a little bit before they headed off on more sightseeing. Haruna and Mii-chan were at the local print shop making more flyers for the event while Yuko and Minami worked on the posters in the office.
"It's very nice of you to help out with the Children’s Fair. Not only do you sponsor the event, but you also help out with the organization, too!"
"The community centre does a lot of work for the children in the neighbourhood. The kids are very cute and I enjoy spending time with them. Besides, it's also like promotion for the supermarket too."
"Do Yuki-san and Atsuko-san help out at the community centre too?" Minami asked.
Yuko nodded. "Yukirin and I usually help out with the community events. Acchan actually volunteers at the centre. Once a week, she would teach the children how to bake."
"That's wonderful of Atsuko-san. I wish I could have the time to do some volunteering work."
"I guess it's hard when you have a demanding job."
"Maybe that's life in Tokyo!"
"And you guys must be really busy. I wanted Nyan Nyan to stay longer, but she said she has to go back to Tokyo right after Christmas."
"Actually, we are not that busy right now because of the holidays. We do have some interviews scheduled after Christmas, but not that many. I guess Paru just has a lot of arrangements to look after since she will be going to London soon..."
"What?" Yuko asked, surprised by the news.
"Ahh..." Minami put her hand to her mouth when she realized that she had just told Yuko something she shouldn't have.
"What do you mean Haruna will be going to London?"
"Ah... That... Um..."
"Just tell me!"
"Paru has been promoted and she will be transferring to the office in London."
"Nyan Nyan is leaving..." Yuko sat in her chair, shocked.
Minami looked at Yuko in worry. The other woman was staring at the ground with an empty expression.
Just then, Haruna and Mii-chan walked into the office. They put down the flyers that they were carrying onto Yuko's desk and Mii-chan turned to Minami.
"Takamina, are you ready to go?"
"I... Ah..." Minami answered as she looked at Yuko.
"C'mon, I don't want to waste more time! We still have more gyoza shops to try!"
Mii-chan was a big fan of gyoza, so she instantly fell in love with Utsunomiya, which was famous for gyoza. She and Minami had gone to a few gyoza shops the last two days but they planned to visit more shops today.
"I..."
Mii-chan pulled Minami up from her chair and turned to Haruna. "I know you will probably be eating dinner with Yuko tonight anyway, but don't wait for us!"
Haruna shook her head in amusement at Mii-chan's eagerness. "Okay."
"Well, we’ll see the two of you later!" Mii-chan pushed Minami out of the office.
Haruna watched them leave, then turned to look at Yuko. She noticed that the smaller woman was very quiet and was just looking blankly at the ground.
"Yuu-chan..." Haruna walked closer to Yuko and placed her hand on Yuko's forehead. "Are you not feeling well? You look pale."
"Nyan Nyan, I..." Yuko looked up at Haruna.
"What's wrong?"
Yuko shook her head as tears started to run down her face. Haruna noticed that Yuko’s hands were shaking.
"Yuu-chan, you are scaring me." Haruna's heart raced as she tried to think of what to do. "Umm, let me take you home. I think you need to rest."
"No!" Yuko suddenly broke out of her trance. "No, I don't want Jiji to know that I'm not feeling well. He will worry."
"How about going to my hotel room? You can rest for awhile there."
Yuko looked up at Haruna silently for a moment before nodding.
Haruna guided Yuko from the chair and helped her put on her jacket. After telling Yuki what was happening, the two of them left the supermarket. Once they were outside, Haruna quickly hailed a taxi and they arrived at the hotel 15 minutes later. Haruna led Yuko to her room and helped her removed her jacket. She guided Yuko onto the bed and placed the blanket over her.
Haruna gently brushed Yuko's hair. "Get some rest, okay? You will feel better afterwards."
Just as she was about to walk away, Yuko grabbed her hand and held on to her.
"Stay with me?" Yuko whispered softly.
Haruna nodded and sat on the edge of the bed. "I will stay right here."
"Don't leave me?"
Haruna shook her head. "I won't leave. Just rest, okay?"
Yuko nodded and closed her eyes. Haruna leaned back against the bed and continued to hold Yuko's hand. She watched as Yuko's breath evened out as she fell asleep.
"I'm here, Yuu-chan. I'm always here, even if we are apart, I'm always by your side." Haruna leaned down and gently placed a soft kiss on Yuko's forehead. "No matter what happens, my heart is always with you."

Day 11: December 24th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
"London..."
Yuko lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling.
She had spent the afternoon in Haruna's hotel room yesterday before the older woman took her home. Haruna had stayed at her home last night to keep an eye on Yuko.
Haruna had also made Yuko stay home from work today and she had promised Yuko that she would stay with her. So, Yuko ended up staying in bed all day, while Haruna took care of her. The older woman had cooked for her and kept her company so she would not feel bored.
Even though she was ecstatic to have Haruna around, she could not get over the shocking piece of news she had received from Minami yesterday.
Haruna was leaving Japan for England.
They could barely see each other now and there was only a 2-hour difference between Tokyo and Utsunomiya. How were they going to maintain their relationship when Haruna goes to London?
Maybe Minami misunderstood the situation and Haruna was not leaving at all.
Yuko was sure that Haruna would tell her the news if it was true. Haruna wouldn't lie to her and she wouldn’t keep such important news from her.
Yuko felt a little relieved at that thought. She looked at the clock on her bedside table and decided to go to the kitchen to check on Haruna.
She walked down the hallway and into the kitchen. Haruna was hunched over the stove, busy stirring something in a pot.
“Nyan Nyan.”
Haruna looked up and frowned at Yuko. “Yuu-chan, what are you doing up? You are supposed to stay in bed today!”
“I have been sleeping all day already and I’m feeling better!”
“Are you sure?”
Yuko nodded. “And I want to have a sit down dinner with Nyan Nyan in the kitchen instead of in my bedroom.”
“Hmm, okay, but only if you are feeling better!”
“I’m fine really.”
“Okay then, just have a seat at the table. Dinner will be ready in a few minutes.”
Yuko sat down at the table and looked at Haruna. “I’m really sorry, Nyan Nyan. You are on vacation and yet you still have to take care of me.”
Haruna shook her head as she placed the food in front of Yuko. “I don’t mind. I love to take care of Yuu-chan.”
“Nyan Nyan…”
“C’mon, the food is ready.” Haruna said as she sat down across from Yuko. “Let’s eat!”
“Itadakimasu!”
Yuko took a bite of her food and she let out a satisfied sigh. “This is delicious!”
“You like it?”
Yuko nodded. “Nyan Nyan’s cooking was good before, but it’s even better now!”
Haruna laughed softly at Yuko’s compliment. “I guess I have lots of practice since I live by myself in Tokyo.”
“I love it!”
“Well, then you should eat more because it will make you feel better.”
Yuko nodded as the two of them started to eat their dinner.
After dinner, the two of them decided to watch a movie. Haruna wrapped her arms around Yuko’s body and pulled the younger girl closer to her. Yuko sighed softly in content. She pushed all of the previous thoughts of Haruna leaving out of her mind and enjoyed the feeling of being in her girlfriend’s warm embrace.
After the movie was over, Yuko went to her grandfather’s room to check on him while Haruna cleaned up. She had a nice talk with her grandfather and after saying good night to her grandfather, she left the room.
Yuko had just closed the door on her grandfather’s room when she heard Haruna’s cell phone rang. She walked towards the sound and heard Haruna talking on the phone.
"Moshi moshi… Ah, Kanazawa-san… It’s Christmas Eve; you are still working this late… Thank you so much for looking after the details for my move… Yes... I don't know how many boxes I will need yet... Will you be bringing the boxes to me... Okay, thank you very much... I will contact you again once I know how many boxes I will need, and then we will set a date for the truck to come and move the boxes… Thank you very much again… Merry Christmas…"
Yuko closed her eyes as she a felt stabbing pain in her heart. So, it was true. Haruna was really going to leave. She covered her mouth with her hand as a sob threatened to escape.
She could not let Haruna see her like this, so she quietly walked away from the room. She rushed down the hallway and went into an empty guest room. She went into the corner and wrapped her arms around herself.
Haruna was going to leave and she didn’t tell Yuko. Maybe because Haruna was going to break up with her and that was why she did not tell Yuko anything.
She could not control her tears as she thought about losing Haruna. The older woman had meant so much to her since their meeting a few years ago and the thought of living without Haruna tore her up inside.
She put her head on her knees and wrapped her arms tighter around herself.
Yuko did not how long she had stayed in the darkness, but suddenly, she heard the door opened.
“Yuu-chan?” Haruna walked into the room and turned on the lights. Haruna looked at Yuko in concern. The younger woman was sitting in the corner with her hands wrapped tightly around her knees and tears running down her face.
It pained Haruna to see Yuko like this. "Yuu-chan, what's wrong? Are you not feeling well again?"
She kneeled in front of Yuko and gently wiped the tears away from Yuko’s cheek. “I’m here, Yuu-chan. Tell me what’s wrong?”
Yuko looked into Haruna’s eyes and whispered hoarsely. "Nyan Nyan, don't break up with me..."
"What?" Haruna looked surprised as she stared at Yuko.
Just then, the clock turned midnight.
It was finally Christmas day.
Day 11 End
Note: Only 1 more part to go... Happy Christmas Eve! :)
-
I'm really hoping Haruna is planning to move to Utsunomiya instead of London :) Plus can we expect something of Mayuki & Atsumina?
I really like how you took the time to develop the story & main characters as well the pace you are going, rather than simply taking the 'template' personality of the girls that most of the stories here seem to adopt. It has been an enjoyable read though it's reaching its end soon :(
-
Oh nooooo~ :cry: HARUNA WHY ARE YOU MAKING YOUR GF SAD!! :cry: :cry: Stop it please ;_________;
Oh it's christmas day already, and this story is gonna end soon :( i hope you'll extend this story until new year! please
-
Oh Kaoru-chan, this is sad once again.
But in some parts of my thoughts, Haruna is moving back to Yuko instead of London. (imaging)
As Bakamina had not heard the whole thing.
Haruna, please don't make it a bad Christmas for Yuko. ;_;

-
@badsaints: Thank you so much for your kind words and I'm glad that you had enjoyed the story! :)
@haruhi16: Maybe I should write a continuation for Valentine's day...
@luckymmsg: I really love the name 'Bakamina'. Oh poor Takamina...
@Haruko: As for Atsumina... ;)
@kahem: I hope this part will make up for the sad parts before... :)
Day 12: December 25th
Utsunomiya, Tochigi
Haruna looked at Yuko in surprise. "What did you say?"
"Don't break up with me." Yuko pleaded with Haruna. "I don't mind keeping the long distance relationship going. I will wait for you for as long as it takes."
"What are you talking about?"
"You are going to London soon."
"How did you know about London?"
"Takamina told me."
"What? Takamina..."
"Don't deny it! I just heard you talking to the moving company."
Haruna paused then let out a soft sigh.
"Yes, you are right. I'm leaving Tokyo, but I'm not going to London." Haruna placed her hands on Yuko's cheek and gently lifted her head up so she could look into Yuko's eyes. "I'm coming back to Utsunomia, back to you."
"What?" It was Yuko's turn to look surprised.
"I've rejected the promotion and I have also resigned from my job."
"Why?"
"Because I don't want to be away from you anymore."
"But that is your dream job! It’s the job you have been wanting for so long! You were so happy when you first got the job!”
“Yes, I was very happy but then I realize that I can’t be fully happy if you are not there with me.”
“Nyan Nyan…”
“Do you remember a few weeks ago, I had told you that my editor really loved one of my articles?”
Yuko nodded.
"The reason I was able to write that article so well was because of you."
"What do you mean?"
"Do you still remember you had come and visited me in Tokyo a few months ago?" Yuko nodded. "You had cooked for me and cleaned my apartment, and then you were tired so you fell asleep on my couch. I was actually stuck on the article then, but then I saw you, sleeping so peacefully on my couch, and I felt calm and at ease. The words started to come to me and the ideas just flowed. I was able to write a great article because of you! You are my muse!"
Yuko remained silent as Haruna continued.
“Yes, this promotion is a dream come true and I've wanted it since I started at the company, but what's the point of taking the promotion if you are not there to enjoy it with me?”
Haruna leaned forward and touched her forehead against Yuko’s. “Yuu-chan, I don’t want us to be apart anymore.”
Yuko closed her eyes and enjoyed the feel of Haruna’s touch. “Nyan Nyan…”
“Yuu-chan, I’m really sorry that I didn’t tell you the news myself.”
Yuko opened her eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
"I wasn't sure how you were going to take the news. I know you aren’t going to be happy about my resignation."
“I’m not happy that you have to resign from your job, but I’m really happy that Nyan Nyan will be home from now on.”
“This is actually just part of your Christmas present.”
“Part of my present? There are more?” Yuko asked eagerly.
“How about about a coffee maker?”
“Nyan Nyan!”
Haruna chuckled and pulled the two of them up from the ground. “It’s late, we should go to bed.”
The two of them walked into Yuko’s room and got onto the bed. Haruna covered them with the blanket and they snuggled close together.
“Merry Christmas, Nyan Nyan.” Yuko whispered softly before closing her eyes.
“Merry Christmas, Yuu-chan.” Haruna placed a soft kiss Yuko’s forehead. “Good night.”
They both fell asleep very quickly with a smile on their faces. That night was the best sleep neither of them had in a long while.
The following day, Atsuko, Mariko, Minami and Mii-chan had arrived at Yuko’s house for their annual Christmas party.
As soon as they had arrived, Minami immediately apologized to Haruna for spilling her secret to Yuko. Haruna had accepted the apology since she realized she should have told Minami and Mii-chan about her decision from the beginning.
They had now settled in the living room as they waited for Yuki to arrive. Haruna and Yuko were taking the food out from the kitchen as Minami was pouring drinks for everyone.
"Would you like some juice, Atsuko-san?" Minami asked.
"Thank you, Minami-san." Atsuko smiled sweetly at Minami.
"Ah... It's nothing." Minami's face was turning red.
She picked up the bottle and started to pour the juice into Atsuko's cup. She poured it too quickly and some liquid had spilled onto Atsuko's shirt.
"I'm so sorry!" Minami apologized.
Atsuko shook her head softly. "It's okay."
Minami quickly grabbed a paper towel and started wiped the stain that was on the front of Atsuko's shirt.
"Wow, Takamina, I didn't know that you had it in you!" Mii-chan tried to hold back her laughter.
Minami looked at Mii-chan and then back at Atsuko. She then realized where her hand was and her face turned even redder than before.
"I'm… I’m… So… So sorry." She stuttered.
"Don't worry about it." Atsuko chuckled, finding Minami very cute. "It's okay. I’m going to go the washroom and clean it up."
Mii-chan who was watching the scene with an amusing grin nudged Haruna softly. “Someone will be visiting Utsunomiya a lot from now on.”
Haruna smiled and nodded in agreement.
Just then, the door bell rang.
“It must be Yukirin.” Yuko said as she walked to the front door. “Let me go open the door.”
“So, Mii-chan, how did you find Utsunomiya?” Mariko asked.
“I love it! The gyoza here is the best I’ve ever had!”
Minami shook her head in amusement. “All you think about is food.”
“You just don’t have the same appreciation for food.”
Haruna laughed at her two co-workers as Yuko walked into the living room with Yuki and a short girl with long black hair.
Yuko noticed that Atsuko had walked back to the room and gestured to her excitedly. “Acchan, look who Yukirin has brought with her!”
“Mayuyu!” Acchan answered in surprise.
“Oh, Yukirin! Good job!” Mariko nodded her head in approve.
Yuki ignored Mariko’s comment and turned to the other people in the room. “Mayu, let me introduce you to Yuko-chan’s friends.”
Yuki pointed to Minami and Mii-chan. “This is Takahashi Minami and Minegishi Minami. The tall woman next to them is Kojima Haruna.”
“Oh, you are Oshiriko-chan’s girlfriend.” Mayu commented as she recognized Haruna’s name.
"Oshiriko-chan?" Haruna looked at Yuki.
"It's a long story.” Yuki shook her head. “Let's just say the two of them have this infatuation with butts."
“It’s very nice to meet you.” Mayu bowed. “My name is Watanabe Mayu.”
“Shiriri-chan is a very talented artist.” Yuko spoke up as she stood next to Haruna.
"Ne, Yuko, you seem to have really interesting friends. Maybe you can introduce me to one of them?"
"Are you serious, Mii-chan?" Haruna asked in surprise.
"Of course, I'm serious!” Mii-chan answered and turned back to Yuko. “So, anybody in mind?"
Yuko thought for a few second. "Hmm, I guess I can introduce you to Sasshi."
"Wait, Sashihara Rino?" Yuki spoke up. "I thought she's dating Rie-chan!"
"Rie-chan? Isn't Sasshi going out with Akicha?" Atsuko asked.
"I thought it's Yui-chan!" Mariko added.
"Wait! Sasshi is already dating someone?" Mayu asked.
"Why? What's the matter?" Yuki asked.
"She is always trying to ask my best friend, Ai-chan, out!” Mayu said with a frown on her face. “I didn't know that she's already in a relationship. That snake!"
"Well, it sounds like she's in more than one relationship." Mariko reminded everyone.
"Yuu-chan, maybe you shouldn't hang around Sashihara so much. She is not really good influence."
"Don't worry, Nyan Nyan, I don't want anyone else but you." Yuko said as she wrapped her arms around Haruna.
"Yuko, she's perfect!” Mii-chan clasped her hands together. “When can I meet her?"
Everyone looked at Mii-chan as Yuko laughed. "Sure, I'll arrange a meeting for you."
“Okay everybody, stop standing around!” Mariko spoke up. “Let’s get this party started!”
Everyone looked at each other and laughed. They started to dig into the food Yuko and Haruna had prepared. During the party, Mii-chan was making everyone laughed with her stories while Mariko kept teasing Yuki about Mayu. Minami and Atsuko, on the other hand, found out that they had a lot in common. It was a great party and everyone had a wonderful time.
The party ended a few hours later. After everyone had left, Haruna and Yuko lay on the couch. The television was on, but neither of them were paying attention to it. Haruna’s arm was wrapped around Yuko while Yuko snuggled close to Haruna’s body.
“Nyan Nyan?” Yuko suddenly spoke up.
“Hmm?”
“What are you going to be doing now that you have resigned from your job?” Yuko looked at Haruna. “Are you going to be looking for a job here?”
Haruna shook her head. “I’ve already found the perfect job.”
“What kind of job is it?” Yuko asked, feeling very curious about the job.
Haruna reached into her pocket and pulled out a business card. She handed the card to Yuko.
“S & S Magazine creator, Miyazawa Sae?” Yuko read from the card.
“I met Sae-san in a noodle shop and we ended up chattering with each other. She is a very easy person to talk to and she actually reminds me a lot of you.” Haruna poked softly at Yuko’s dimple.
“When I told her that I will be moving back to Utsunomiya, she asked me if I wanted to write articles for her e-magazine. I thought it would be interesting and it will also give me free time to help you with Oji-chan and the supermarket.”
“Nyan Nyan, you don’t have to worry about me. I’m okay.”
“You keep too much burden to yourself, Yuu-chan. I know that you don’t want anybody to worry about you, but you know that you can lean on Acchan, Kashiwagi-chan and I, right?”
Yuko paused then nodded slowly. “I’m sorry if I’ve made you worry about me.”
“Just let me help you from now on?”
“Okay.”
Haruna placed a kiss on Yuko’s temple. “I have already talked with Sae-san and her partner, Sayaka-san and they said that I can start once I have settled back in Utsunomiya.”
“I will support Nyan Nyan in whatever you do.”
“Ne, Yuu-chan, do you think Oji-chan will mind if I move in to live with you?”
Yuko’s face lit up. “Of course not! Jiji loves you too!”
“What about you, are you okay with it? If you don’t want me to move in with you, I can look for an apartment in town.”
“No, I don’t want Nyan Nyan to go anywhere! I want Nyan Nyan to stay here with me.” Yuko wrapped both of arms around Haruna’s body and pressed her face against Haruna’s chest.
“Yuu-chan…”
Yuko looked up at Haruna. “I want Nyan Nyan’s face to be last thing that I see when I go to sleep each night and first thing that I will see when I open my eyes each morning.”
Haruna smiled softly. “I’d like that too.”
Yuko reached up and kissed Haruna gently. “I love you, Nyan Nyan.”
“I love you, too.”
Yuko closed her eyes and listened to the steady sound of Haruna’s heartbeat. Haruna rubbed Yuko’s back gently as she breathed in Yuko’s soothing scent. The two of them continued to sit on the couch, just enjoying each other company.
After some time had passed, Haruna realized that they should prepare for bed.
“Yuu-chan?” Haruna looked down at Yuko and realized the other woman had fallen asleep in her arms.
Haruna’s expression softened as she stared at the peaceful look that was on Yuko’s face. A wave of calmness washed over her.
Miyazawa Sae was right.
Home was where the heart was.
For Kojima Haruna, home was where Oshima Yuko was.
End
