Title: Couple of random JAL and Japanese aircraft stuffs
Post by: sayumi_fan on February 12, 2012, 07:47:24 AM
1. New JAL logo

Not quite 'weird news', and in fact no longer news at all, since it happened last year, but doesn't seem to have been commented at all, but:

Japan Airlines (JAL) has gone back to their old insignia, with a slightly updated (I can't actually see much difference at all) version of their original logo which was in use 1959-1989 (Not sure what they used 1951-1959 though)

Article reporting this here (http://en.airportnews.jp/headline/383/)
1959-1989 logo here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/86/Japan_Airlines_logo_%281959-1989%29.png)
logo we have been used to seeing recently here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/81/Japan_Airlines_logo_%282002%E2%80%932011%29.svg/169px-Japan_Airlines_logo_%282002%E2%80%932011%29.svg.png) (in use 2002-2011)
new 2011- logo here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3f/Japan_Airlines_logo.svg/354px-Japan_Airlines_logo.svg.png)

BTW, the old/new logo is based on an attractive bird called the red crowned crane, known in Japanese as the tsurumaru.  Lots of pics here (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=tsurumaru+bird&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=FVk3T6zyKOyYmQXe4tCmAg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CAwQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=685#hl=en&safe=off&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=red+crowned+crane&pbx=1&oq=red+crowned+crane&aq=0&aqi=g8g-m1g-S1&aql=&gs_sm=1&gs_upl=24951l27879l0l29987l17l13l0l0l0l0l628l3972l3-1.3.4l8l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=a3c26198b95812e&biw=1280&bih=685) - quite an attractive bird (of the feathered kind, heh heh, if you're used to using the word other ways)

2. Airline / JAL related drama

Probably old news for real Aya Ueto fans, but she's kinda cute as well as annoying in the 2006 JAL-based drama "Attention Please".  Available here (http://doramax264.com/comedy/attention-please/) in reasonable quality via MF (MU links are there, but...  well...) and hardsubbed.  If you saw and liked "Shinkansen Girl" you'll like this too.

3. Great Hokkaido airport vids

I'm enough of a nerd to appreciate these.  They are beautifully done in full HD.  The uploader (http://www.youtube.com/user/tsurikichitetsu) has lots more, but these three randomly appealed to me.

4. Random unexpected air transport statistics

Okay, just got one last stop-press here:

Amazingly, the Tokyo-Sapporo air route is the busiest in the world in terms of number of passengers carried annually.
Tokyo-Fukuoka, Tokyo-Naha and Tokyo-Osaka are all in the top 10.
Sydney-Melbourne and Sydney-Brisbane in Australia are No. 4 and No.12 despite Australia's small population.
The first route in the United States to get a mention is Los Angeles-San Francisco at No. 18 - amazing that the US didn't have a busier route than the Aussie ones, especially.

Anyways...
