Tempting as hell, but I must pass. A bit too last-minute and I'd rather save my money for future stuffs. Have a blast, people. Seeing AKB48 is a ton of fun. :twothumbs

Not sure if the waiting list is just until the tickets go on sale or just how things are working.

I just emailed them to find out when you know if you got tix.


UPDATE - They've taken the waiting list page down, but they replied to my email and said that tickets go on sale at 10 am.

This is the best news ever. Just a week ago I was thinking about how I saw Jero performing at the 09 Cherry Blossom Festival. I thought about the possibility of AKB performing there but thought it would be highly unlikely. A week later, this announcement of them appearing there + performing a FREE concert at the Lincoln theater, close to home...I can't even process all of this.

Otherwise, does anyone have experience with Amtrak & the DC metro? Train tickets are cheap enough, but I have no experience with that system and area :panic:

Just ordered my tickets to both concerts.

Now I gotta look for some cheap bus tickets. Can't decide whether to get there during the weekend or on Monday.  :mon dunno:

I know the metro very well. If you're staying at my place, we'll take the red line to Chinatown, then get a transfer up to U street

If you're Amtraking in for the day, from union station, take the red line to Chinatown and transfer to U street.

I have the day off and tickets for both shows.

Weird ...

This is a normal concert. They aren't appearing at the actual street event, Sakura Matsuri - that's a weekend in April. They're coming during the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC (which lasts like a damn month). This isn't like an anime con or something. It's just a time when they invite a lot of Japanese performers and when the cherry blossoms are usually blooming.

The Lincoln Theater just isn't that huge is all :nervous

Yeah, I think AKB is going to be there that whole week maybe...I know in 09 the archer guy from Last Samurai was there and stayed for that week period.

Btw, I emailed them to ask if it was first-come-first-seated or if there was going to be a lottery system, but I haven't gotten a reply. Maybe everyone should email and then they'll post something?  :nervous


Also, fyi, anyone expecting to see the cherry blossoms will probably be disappointed - due to our unseasonably warm weather, our peak is going to be the week before, so it might be looking kinda shitty by then.

I'm planning to wear some of boykun's designs (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=28896.0), or my JPHIP shirt (http://jphip.spreadshirt.com/), and I'll have JPHIP pins, and a JPHIP business card in a lanyard on.. so I might be easy to spot. I know some others will be doing similar.

We were talking about meeting at one of the many eateries around the theater, if possible. Especially keen on Quiznos or the chili place.

I'm getting in DC about 01:00AM Tuesday with a few guys from New School Kaidan. Gonna get a hotel room just for the night(and shower lol), then probably head out to wander the downtown area around 08:00-09:00AM. The guys are most likely gonna head straight to the theater and line up, but I want to have that glorious lunch party with JPHiPsters and take pictures etc lol.

My flight back is at 06:00AM Wednesday morning, so if there are any plans after the concert I'd be most down to hang out. But I'd like to know how I can get back to the airport at least by 04:00AM.

Anyone know about camera policy? I'll be bringing a day pack but nowhere to store it if they don't allow bags inside.

Which airport - Reagan / DCA? There are 3 that are considered DC airports, although Reagan is the only one actually in DC.

Ah, and out of towners - the metro in DC is not like, say, the subway in New York. It's closed from midnight until 5 am on the weekdays. Check wmata.com for more info.

Um, so I've offered to let so many people stay in my apt that I'm not sure anymore who exactly is staying here.  :nervous

So, if you're crashing at my place (or need a place to crash), please PM me. I can pick people up at the Shady Grove metro station after I get off work at 6 pm on Monday (station at the North end of the Red line - I'll probably get there around 6:15) or at any time on Sunday, if arriving early.

If you need a ride back, I can drop people off at Shady Grove on my way to work on Wednesday (probably get there around 8:30, 8:45 am).

Just let me know.  :thumbsup

Just arrived back from the airport with a few friends (along with others we met). I tried to take as many pictures of them entering and exiting (very bad quality) and some took some video footage. That concert was AMAZING!

Hearing Takamina's voice for the opening, in person...I thought I was dreaming.

I had a front row center seat, and made eye contact with a good number of the girls. Umeda Ayaka made me feel great. She's climbed up in my books :D

The girls were so gorgeous in person. I made sure I looked at each one of them individually for the same amount of time just in order to bask all of it in. I gotta brush up on my knowledge of some of the Team 4 and KKS members. They made great impressions on me. Such great energy.


Meeting the other hipsters was great. I didn't get to chill afterwards, but we got a group picture in front of the stage.

The experience was great. I need to go see them perform in Japan.

"I can't ask for anymore"

That is what I say about my whole experience. The amount of times I have seen them on the virtual screen always gives me dreams of watching them live. As time goes by, even though I have the grateful opportunity to see them twice, as a normal human, it's not a surprise to always strive for more. The sheer fact that I saw them, not once but twice, is a feat in its own.

One of the things that stuck out the most was the diversity of fans. I saw many kids with their parents attending the concert and in the 1st showing, the elementary school kids (I believe) were in attendance in the balcony. At the encore call, they were screaming "WE WANT MORE"; it was a very grand and touching moment.

I was able to see an old friend (who I haven't seen since Los Angeles) and another (who I haven't seen since New York); we were together for the 2nd concert, so it was legit. It was also great meeting new friends.

One of the other highlights for me was a touching moment with a mother and her little daughter in front of us in the 2nd concert. Because the music so loud, the little daughter had to wear headphones to muffle the music; however, she was still on point with her glowsticks waving and was having a great time. She stood on the chair and leaned against her mom, so she could see. It was a very great moment.

Overall, seeing two shows (which were packed both shows), able to see old and new friends, seeing a diversity of people coming together for AKB48, I truly can not ask for more.

I think I can only manage to do a summary, cuz I'm gonna just end up babbling about it all on Happy Hour this Sunday. XD

-Hipstaz and other AKB fans!  The second biggest draw for me for these kind of events is seeing you guys and meeting new people.  Saw Hart, amp, johpan, kjpop, boykun, Ping, yossierocks and mode107.  I also met a bunch of other ppl from other forums.  Fun shit, man!

-Seeing the girls live.  HOLY SHIT.  Sae looks so fucking cute/hot/sexy IRL.  GAH.  You know who surprised me?  Ume-chan.  She never really blipped on my radar before, but DAAAAAAAAAYUM, that woman foine as hell.  Takamina looks exactly as I see her usually in the media but it was still cool seeing her.  AND omg, to see/hear her live was surreal.  Seeing the other girls I'm not familiar with like the other Team 4 girls and the KKS was cool, made me appreciate them a bit more.  Speaking of Team 4, Fresh Lemon was ridiculously cute. XD

-My giant Sae and Takamina heads.  I pretty much photobombed all the photos that day. XD

Fantastic event......because it was tied to the 100th anniversary of Japan donating  flowering cherry trees Washington DC, Yui48 were, in a sense, officially representing the government of Japan. Seeing Sae, Aki and Greatest Legs in the Universe Rina Hirata there with the kids was certainly a highlight.
The buttocks were great.....and seeing various JPH!Psters there was truly icing on the cake.  The Japanese Television reporters were all beaming after every interview of an enthusiastic fan in Washington who came from near and far to be at the concert. And the Linsanity and buttocks together really seemed to rock the house.

Thanks to everyone who posted clips, who attended, and who wrote stories or gave personal accounts of the experience- it was a great to see such positive vibes, and a great time to be a fan!!

Hm, with that time frame, they're showing both concerts and/or including fan interviews and footage. The concerts were only about an hour each.

Anyway, that's at 11 am GMT (7 am EST for me and my east coast peeps)

As pointed out on twitter by johpan, the (JST/EDT) thing on the AKB channel's banner seems to suggest that there'll be two streams; one at 8PM JST, one at 8PM EDT.
