After the somewhat disappointing Kibou Sanmyaku, Watarirouka Hashiritai finally returns again this month with another addictive single. The first of the year, Shounen yo Uso wo Tsuke! (少年よ 嘘をつけ！) is the group’s 4th single since taking on the Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 name and 10th overall.

Like their previous single, Shounen yo Uso wo Tsuke! is a tie in with Crayon Shin-chan, replacing Kibou Sanmyaku as the theme song for the cartoon. It is most notable however for being the first Watarirouka release without its leader, Hirajima Natsuki left the group in January when both her and AKB48 fellow member Yonezawa Rumi’s private Twitter account photographs lead to a scandal.

While Hirajima continues to be part of the OgiPro agency that manages Watarirouka Hashiritai, she has left both AKB48 and Watarirouka, suspending all activities with the groups. Instead, fellow OgiPro artist Urano Kazumi, who is also a former AKB48 and SDN48 member takes her place in the single. Urano, who more often goes by the nickname Cindy, joins the youthful group despite being 27 this year. She makes for an amusing addition to the Watarirouka Hashiritai team, even if it is only temporary.

It’s been a while since this song first debut with the new lineup at AKB48′s Super Saitama Arena concert in March but the single will finally arrive on 30th May 2012. In anticipation of its release, the music video for Shounen yo Uso wo Tsuke! began airing last week. You can see a preview at the official Warota YouTube Channel.

Like their other singles, Shounen yo Uso wo Tsuke! is a catchy tune, mostly due to a strong memorable chorus. But while the stye remains the same, Watarirouka’s sound seems to have changed a bit with this new single.

This is likely the result of member Nakagawa Haruka having to undergo surgery for her vocal cord nodules in February (altering her voice) and the new dynamic introduced by the substitution of Hirajima with Urano. Without Nakagawa and Hirajima’s low voices to act as a contrast, and with Iwasa Misaki being self conscious of her usual voice, Watarirouka has never sounded preppier.

Currently, Ota Aika would appear to be the only one inside attempting a deeper voice but her role in the single is minor. Instead, the majority of the lyrics are being fielded by Watanabe Mayu, even more so than the usual Warota norm.

Visually as well, there is an uncanny amount of Mayu even by Watarirouka standards. All of the video’s story scenes, or half of the total video features Watanabe interacting with a little boy who rescues her in the premise. This is an especially strong push for Watanabe, who has bearly come off from the success of her recent single Synchro Tokimeki.

Overall, Watarirouka loses a bit of familiarity in its sound but Shounen yo Uso wo Tsuke! is still a great single that will revive some of the Watarirouka flair. Being a fan myself, me and many others are no doubt are looking forward to it hitting stores later in the month. I’ll keep my hopes up for the B-sides as well since Watarirouka singles tend to have a good track record with coupling songs."

No Mayuyu solo song in the regular edition :( I was so looking forward to one although I'm sure some WH7 fans are cheering at the news of another member getting the solo song.

I'm liking the covers for Types A and B. The song that I'm most interested in based on the title and singers has to be Type A's Shimai Donburi - a Mayuyu and Cindy duet :deco:! Sounds like a really fun song!

Note 1:

The NINKI ratings are the results of a POLL conducted by Oricon indicating degree of interest/degree of purchase intention in an upcoming release. Although the ratings are never a true reflection of sales, it does give a strong prediction about where the single/album will place in terms of popularity amongst the Japanese public. However, they are NOT an indication of how it will perform in terms of chart positioning and total sales for the week.

Note 2:

According to Oricon's note under the NINKI page, Oricon researches about 870,000 of its members by random sampling of 400 members in their 10s until 40s. 50 men and 50 women are chosen randomly to participate in each age group. (However, some popular artists have had NINKI exceeding 500, so we can only assume that Oricon has extended the polling to around 600/700 people now.)

They are totally messing with Mayuyu by giving her the scary teaser :lol:

Komorin's teaser looks pretty darn funny. She always catches me off-guard with her quirky sense of (accidental) humour. Plus she's really cute in person. Would love to see the full version of her teaser!

I'm guessing the not so stellar sales of Shounen yo is due to WH7 fans concentrating their funds on the senbatsu election. I have the impression that WH7 fans are younger which means zero or lower income. Let's hope the sales don't dwindle too quickly as the week progresses. It'll be great if Shounen yo can maintain about 8k per day on average until the end of its first week. At least that will put it on par with Hetappi Wink's first week sales.

Just watched what I think are all the Shounen yo... TV performances to date (let me know if I missed any) Happy Music, CDTV, Hey Hey Hey, Music Fair. And of course, Mayu's solo Girls Factory one.

They are all really great. All the girls look beautiful, in particular Mayu  :wub:

Music Fair never fails to deliver. That was a great live re-arrangement, I loved the strings.

And, yeah, I've gushed all about Mayu's solo performance before, but it is still fantastic, and she looks so beautiful there  :heart:

Just watched the 渡り廊下走り隊7 スペシャル Vol.1 part 1 & 2 that YKT san posted above. Very nice, arigatou!!

some thoughts:
Mika Komori - she wanted to be a fashion model, so she did a session with a Model Sensei....Mika is right, professional modeling is actually like any other art form, which takes a lot of practice and talent to reach a professional level. Mika seems a bit shy or reserved, but she is very beautiful. And cutoff denim shorts were made for Mika. Gambatte Mika chan!

Haruka Nakagawa - She wanted to do action stunts, and after watching that segment, please let's get her in some action films now!!
TAFKAH (The Artist Formerly Known As Harugon) already owns my fandom, but once again she rises to new levels of sugoi!

Kazumi Urano (Cindy)- With the sad departure of Natsumi Hirajimi, Boss Akimoto surprised a lot of fans by adding Cindy to fill out the seven member roster. As she is an original AKB48 member, later transferred to SDN48, I reallly didn't know who she was. But I have noticed in every Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 performance on television, Cindy has a beaming smile and is putting it all out there while performing.....it's as if she has been through so many transfers she just figures "show up for rehearsal on time, and from that moment, don't hold back"   ......  Yes, Cindy has won my admiration, and in the Cake sequence, Cindy again seems genuinely overjoyed that the cute group of girls chose the cake she made (they had to, otherwise they wouldn't get on a TV program). Here's to Cindy for making Fresh Lemons out of Lemonade!!!.....or sumpin' like dat!  :w00t:

On July 29th, AKB48 sub-unit Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 attended the Kanto area tournament for the annual summer event, ‘The 32nd National High School Quiz Championship‘.

Watarirouka Hashitai 7 is in charge of the tournament’s support song. On this day, members Watanabe Mayu, Urano Kazumi, Kikuchi Ayaka, and Komori Mika attended the event to cheer on the students.

In front of 1,404 students, Watanabe called out, “To all the high school students who gathered here on this hot day, aim for the national tournament and do your best!”

Meanwhile, Urano said, “We put our all into AKB during our high school days, so when we saw kids running in late, we thought, ‘They look like they’re having fun.” She continued, “I think it’s much more fun than being an idol!”

When asked about their most enthusiastic memory in high school, Kikuchi responded, “When I made a friend. That was the only friend I made.“ Watanabe also shared, “I wasn’t able to attend school as much, but I was really happy when I graduated earlier in March.”

Model Suzuki Nana, who produced a collaboration badge for the tournament, also came out to support the students. “I’m surprised at how enthusiastic they are in this heat. As expected of high schoolers. I can feel their seriousness,” she commented. “I dropped out of school because I wasn’t smart enough, so I took correspondence courses. But I would’ve never been able to participate in a tournament like this, so I’m envious. I want everyone to make the best memories.”

The tournament was hosted by comedians Heisei Nobushi Kobushi and Watanabe Naomi. Yoshimura Takashi stated, “They’re extremely excited. They’re so young.”
