The name of Nintendo's Revolution is now the Wii, pronounced like "WEEEEEEE."
I don't know what's up with this name. While I didn't really care for "Revolution," "Wii" is just weird. The name is kinda funny, but it's just odd for a game system. The whole message from Nintendo with Wii as a pun only makes the name seem worse. What does everyone else think about this?
Wasn't one of the names gonna be Nintendo Go? (If so, I like that one, it's simple, has a nice little punch to it.)
-
Wii are not amused...
In all seriousness though, look at names like iPod, Google, XBox. I know I certainly laughed at these names for products, but of course, it eventually grows on you and becomes part of everyday conversation. Not to mention the name hasn't placed any hinderance on their success.
-
I like it.
It's easy to pronounce and has a lot of potential to make puns and jokes to advertise the console.
-
As a Nintendo fanboy, i wouldn't care what they call it, i'd still get it.
but other than that, maybe some ppl will prounounce it as "wy" instead of "wee". Thats a little better, i guess....
-
I'm still gonna get it too. I doubt the name will discourge anyone from buying it. The name isn't really gonna attract or discourae enough people to make a difference. Like what Tuffty said, the odd names of products don't hinder their sales. I don't think anyone really cares about the name of something, unless it is something offensive.
-
It's different. That should help it stand out a bit.
Revolution sounded waaaay too much like "360"
-
did you bring your wii wii with you? LOL well i think this will decreases its value. making me grab one due to the low price I expect in the future.
-
I can't say it without laughing, but I'm sure it will grow on me. Something that odd can't be bad.
-
I think as long as Nintendo keeps it trend of making games that are for multi-players (like games that are good to play in a party) then I'm always for Nintendo!
-
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
As dumb as the name is, I'm still buying that fucker, DAY ONE!
-
I like the name
I always revolution would've been a shitty name
-
(http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/1237/wiiiiiiiiii8xt.jpg)
maybe its called "wii" so every little child can say ! " play wii wii " lol
i dont know how they came to this name, but actually i dont care what its called.
have to see what games ect are coming.
-edit-
wouldnt the japanese call it "bii" ? :ugly:
-
It gets better...
In the UK the Wii is going to be distributed by Koch.

Sounds more like

WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
-
It's so hard to be a Nintendo fan these days :(
-
Nintendo's renaming of their next-generation console from Revolution to Wii has certainly caught people off guard. Reaction has ranged from moderate understanding to utter disbelief. But could Nintendo be fooling us all? (http://www.nintendojo.com/infocus/view_item.php?1146327632)
-
At least they are getting publicity. Any publicity is good publicity!
-
Imo they gonna try to fool us all with success sp far and come up with a new name.Anyways imo "wii" sounds not thaat bad since i am a fan i gonna get this one too.
-
I think maybe that they'll change the name for international releases if that rumor of the fake name is to be true.
-
The "rumour" sounds like the hopes and prayers of all fans in the U.S ^.^. I don't know, it will look extremely bad if they did change it after Perrin Kaplan (Head of N.O.A) said its final and they WILL NOT be changing it.
-
They decided to rename it "Wii", because that's the sound everyone makes when they realize they're having fun playing games with that ridiculous controller. :P
It is a silly name true or not, but Nintendo will make some sweet games, regardless of the console's name o_O

Oh God. I am *not* calling my Revolution a "Wii". I'll stick to the original name. kthxbye.
-
But Will I be able to play Pokemon Coloseum on it?
-
I like the concept actually..^^
Looking forward to getting my hands on it.
-

DENIAL!
-
IIRC the development of the system was titled "Project Revolution" and it was never announced that the actual system would be called "Revolution" (which imo is such a cliche, corny name). It's like the situation with the Gamecube, everyone thought it was going to be called "Dolphin" because that's what its codename was in the development phase.

True. It just seems that most people were hoping for something a step above from the past: Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube. Basic, uncreative names.
Even Xbox and Playstation are rather bland names for consoles. "Revolution" is somewhat generic, but has a certain zing the others lack. Wii is seemingly random though, falling in line with prior names.
-
after checking out the gameplay from this game called, RedSteel, i think ill buy this console when it launches. the cost should is suppose to be low too rite? i think the innovative controls will be fun as hell. anyone checked out the the other gameplays such as , tennis and what seems to be Warioware? they look fun as hell.
-
^
Yeah, i've decided that i'm getting one now. All the videos and demos look amazing. If that clip of a guy playing the drums with two of the controllers is an actual game, my head will explode. Twillight Princess and the new Mario game only make it better.
Since the development kit for the Wii is only $2000, roughly 1/100000 of kits for PS3 or 360, the Wii itself should be real cheap: I've read $ around 150-250, and that is a damned steal.
Decent E3 coverage: http://www.kotaku.com/
-
^ Wait, wasn't the Wii's price announced at 259$ US??

edit: http://revolution.ign.com/articles/706/706173p1.html
They haven't announced the price or release date yet. They're keeping that, along with more about Wii features quiet for now apparently. :sweatdrop: Couple days for E3 yet though, I imagine that they'll announce it soon if they're trying for a release this fall.
-
The new controller looks nice. Especially in RedSteel. Too bad lazy nerds have to start working out, because you can't play only with your thumbs anymore :D
-
ps3 seems pretty nice graphic-wise. but it is way to expensive. same for xbox. so i guess ill stick to Wii for now. Anyone of u guys seen the Zelda demo at E3? the guy showed how u fight in the game and plus there this part where u have to shoot arrows wit a bow. it was fucking amazing. also apparently, there is a mic in the controller where it reacts to the button u pressed so that if feels like ur actually doing the activity.
-
The thing I read about Red Steel was the motion sensing wasn't all that sensitive. This means that the game just recognizes the general motion that you make and not the exact movements. I.e. if you want to execute a move in the game that slashes like a "7" movement, you just do the general motion and the computer will execute the move.
I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say cause I don't think I worded it quite right.
-
now this console is the real revolution ... damn nice inovations hope its cheap so i can this instead of ps3 garhh so expensive

Yeah, we probably won't be slicing people up like Zorro, at least in Red Steel. Taking the swordplay idea though, it would be amazing if Squarenix would make a new Bushido Blade for the Wii. That game would be unbelievable if you had precise control over your weapon with the Wii's controller.
New Super Smash Bros ftw! http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/super-smash-bros-brawl/super-smash-brothers-brawl-announced-173004.php
-
sth i am really interested in knowing is, how are action games be played? for games like smash bro, are we gonna have to move the controllers?
oh yea, and lastly, are the graphics gonna be an upgrade over the cube?
-
Red Steel looks awesome, that game could change the whole FPS genre :yep:
I gotta admit that Super Mario Galaxy looks kinda disappointing. It looks nothing more than an updated version of Sunshine. But I guess it's more about the gameplay than fancy graphics. I haven't seen any high res videos of Mario and Zelda yet, so I can't say much about the graphics.
New Super Smash Bros ftw! http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/super-smash-bros-brawl/super-smash-brothers-brawl-announced-173004.php
Awesome :thumbsup
Smash Bros Melee is my most played GC game so I'm pretty excited about Brawl.
oh yea, and lastly, are the graphics gonna be an upgrade over the cube?

well thats not gameplay graphics, so cant really judge. although i am not strict about graphics since gameplay is always number one, it would be nice if the graphics are an upgrade over the cube.
about the SSBB, i checked out the trailer and it was funny in the end where Snake showed up. it ends up he is one of the new characters in the game. Strange but it also draws more interest to eveyrone about the game.
-
So, wow. I've always been a Nintendo fangirl, but this E3 beats all *blown away*
I watched the live stream of the Nintendo press briefing and I sat there in constant fangirl hysteria mode. From the moment Miyamoto walked onto the stage until the very end. My head has still not fully recovered, I think.
I love how Nintendo is always able to think differently. They dare to take these huge leaps with their consoles instead of doing minor upgrades from time to time (although they do the minor upgrades with their portable systems... but it's minor upgrades, you don't have to switch to a DS Lite if you don't want to, the old DS is still able to play all DS games fine.. etc). I love how their main focus has always been family entertainment too.
I'm sure you've all seen this, but no pictures in the thread, so.. here are the various add ons for the Wii-mote. The light gun is love. Love, love, love. I also adore the design of the normal controller that you can add on to it, it reminds me of a SNES controller. Mmm~ cuteness.

As for what I think of the games so far. I'm mostly excited about Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda and Super Smash Brothers (mostly because of Snake!). :D Also very excited about the prospect of a Trauma Centre sequel for the Wii! O_O; We get to cut people up with a remote! :O XD;;
Nintendo, you own my soul XDDD
-
Wii looks reaaaaaaaal nice, and it really is a revolution in gaming. i was watchin E3 on tv, they havent announced release date or price yet. i love how they put a speaker in the controller tho so when you shoot arrows in legend of zelda you hear the twang of the bow. and now i wont be the only douche that moves my body left when trying to make a left turn in games.
a lil offtopic but, ppl taht are complaining about the ps3 price, you have to understand that its comming with blu-ray and is basically a multimedia station. blu-ray dvd player alone is going to retail at probably 1000 like the HDVD player. so really..if you want HD entertainment...buying a ps3 will save you money
-
i must say im not that impressed... all the trailer looked like i was watching footage from gamecube games. super mario galaxy looked like sm sunshine.
the controller may be 'different' but for me it is not all THAT revolutionary. It may be good for tennis games or so, but 1st: For "normal" games it might not be that confortable, when you movie around with your arm like wtf all the time with the remote and 2nd if i want to play tennis that feels real, i go out and play REAL tennis.
but im sure ill get it anyway, because i want to play zelda :D
-
I'll probably end up getting a wii before a ps3. overall I'm not all that excited about the games that are coming out(though some of them look really nice) the gameplay innovations are enough to convince me that it will be worth it.
I love how people are excited about the speaker on the controller though. it's like the most useless feature of the system.
That gun attachment would rule for fps.
-
The speaker on the controller can be useful though since it produces a nice depth of sound without a surround sound system. And it's different than a surround system because instead of sounds beside or behind you, the Wii's sounds come right in your face (..... hehe). Whether this function is useful or not really depends on how the developers implement it into their games.
-
i'll probably be getting one, probably on the 2nd shipment, or whatever. warioware convinced me enough to get one. its been a while since i played party games. it should be interesting with the wiimote. hopefully the price wont be too steep.
oh and possible trauma center for the wii? hell yeah.
-

the thing wit Wii is that i think most of their games will be made to fit the controllers. however i read somewhere that there will be seperate controllers for action games like smash bro.

Here's a 7 minute long Super Mario Galaxy gameplay video:

I still don't know whether I like it or not. But one thing is for sure, I'm not blown away by Super Mario Galaxy. It's not bad but to be honest I'm way more excited about Super Paper Mario and New Super Mario Bros.
-
I hope the new super mario bros. isn't a 3 minute game. cause It looks like it'll be my most favorite game ever. aNd I heard the same thing about the seperate controllers.. it was a last minute thing i read at some sites as a rumor. some of the people in the irc said the controller was legit.
-
Mario should never leave 2D. Neither should Sonic... or Castlevania... or Contra... or Donkey Kong... and on and on. The 3D versions of the games are fun, but they never have that kind of charm 2D games do.
-
Yesterday on G4 TechTV's E3 coverage, there was an interview with the head honcho of Nintendo of America. (Or something like that) He brought out a more traditional-style gamepad for the Wii that attaches to the remote-controller. (Or what he called the Wii-mote.)
As for Super Mario Galaxy, what they made a big deal about was the control. They demonstrated a kind of on-screen pointer interface paired with the motion-sensing remote. For controlling Mario and making him fly through space, I can imagine some pretty fun gaming situations.
I must say though, I'm more excited about trying out the Wii than the other consoles coming out, mainly to see how the controller works. (And the new Wario Ware, which looks like an absolute hoot.)
-

AMEN! (I had to put the exclamation to extent the post length to 5 characters, which is the minimum amount in this forum ^^)

i never liked playing the 3D mario games. it just didnt appeal to me. i am glad they the new 2D mario game is coming out for DS next week. its gonna be great.
i wish 2D Donkey Kong will appear for DS. if so, its gonna be as good as mario.
-
sonic 3d sonic games are only on the first level. after that they get boring... shadow. Sonic rush on the DS was the best sonic game i played this millineum, although some of the bonus stages were like impossible!
-
Well I just preorder a Wii at Toys 'R Us today. The deposit was 50$ cdn and they're still referring to it as the Nintendo Revolution. I initially asked if I could preorder the "Nintendo Wii" and they asked me what type of game that was. It's just kind of weird that nobody knew what I was talking about even though I was in the electronics department...you would assume those guys would at least keep up to date with this kind of stuff.
-
where did u preorder at? i mean which location?
i am also planning to go toys r us to get my deposit. u all ppl should actually go there to preorder because not many ppl actually go there for some reason. ppl actually think EB is the best place for games, but i never go there since toys r us and futureshop has better deals.
-
Toys 'R Us in Markham, Ontario...inside Markville Mall if for some reason you knew the area. I also asked about the PS3 but they said they weren't offering preordering for it yet...which is weird cause I was told they were from Future Shop (i.e. Canadian version of Best Buy).
-
well i live in richmond vancouver. my local toys r us have ps3 preorder already.
-
Mario should never leave 2D.
I don't know, I really liked Mario RPG for Super NES.
-
haha that game was the first rpg game i've ever beaten in my life!!
-
Thinking back about my decision, I'm not too sure if it was the right move to preorder from Toys R Us. They have generally set their prices higher than stores like Best Buy or Future Shop in the past. Hmmm, they'll probably jack the price up real high for the bundle too (which is the console, 2 controllers and 2 games).
-
I think Toys R Us will sell for MSRP. I'm not sure if I'll buy the Wii at launch, maybe I'll wait a few months when more games are released.
A bit OT: I'm going to buy a DS Lite at launch and will most likely get it from that same Toys R Us store. They're not accepting preorders so I'll have to get it in the morning. I hope nobody lines up for it since demand doesn't seem that high, and there's a Best Buy, EB and Wal Mart in the same mall so there should be plenty of stock :)
-
Cool, didn't realize I had a JPH!P neighbour from the forum. Yeah, that seems like a good location to pick up the DS Lite from. I actually live right next to the mall...well almost right next to it...closer to Markville Secondary. I was planning on picking up the DS Lite from Future Shop but I just used up the 50$ gift card I had so maybe I'll just pick it up from Markville Mall. I'm just hoping they offer some sort of bundle since I won't have much cash left to buy a game...
In a perfect world, my dream bundle would be the NDS Lite + Super Mario Bros. for about 169$.
-
i think the prices at toys r us are generally they same as best buy and futureshop. sometomes toyrs r will also lower their game's price to a pretty cheap deal. thats why i go there often to check out games first.

Wii Price, Launch Date Revealed
September 13, 2006 - Nintendo fans finally have a price and release date for the company's new generation console, Wii. The Big N is set to officially announce that the system will hit retail in North and South America for $250 on November 19. The New York Times published with the story and seems, in fact, to have beaten Nintendo Co. Ltd with the news.
Nintendo's Wii console will come packaged with Wii Sports, a compilation sports game that best shows off the mechanics of the system's unique controller. Wii Sports features tennis, baseball, golf and a previously unannounced bowling game.
Nintendo said it would provide Wii owners with more than 25 unique games this year.
Wii's much talked-about Virtual Console download service, which enables gamers to purchase classic games, will offer a library of some 30 titles when the system launches. Titles will include entries from the Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong franchises, Nintendo said. Virtual Console games will cost between $5 and $10 each.
The Big N confirmed that it would charge $50 for its new Wii games, which is $10 cheaper than the cost of standard Xbox 360 titles.
In a surprise announcement, Nintendo said that it wanted to make Wii a living room centerpiece by shipping the system with features outside of the videogame realm. Wil will include a photo channel, enabling users to display their digital photos through the console. It will also boast regularly updated news and weather channels. In addition, the system will ship with the Opera Web browser, enabling users to connect online.
Sony recently announced that it would ready 400,000 PS3s in North America and another 100,000 in Japan for the system's launch. Nintendo said it plans to ship 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of the year.

-
The price for the console and games are not bad. I just want to get it for the new Zelda game.
-
i gree with amuse, i too will wait a few months... knowing my luck i will get a unit that has some bug with it
i thought i was gonna get the pstres but the wii looks like more fun
-
It's more expensive than expected but I'll probably buy it because someone has to rescue Zelda once again.
-
From Nintendo's NYC event:
Additional Wii remotes will be $39.99, separate from the nunchuk, which will be an additional $19.99.
So the full controller set will cost $60? That's more than the price of a game :(
-
Considering the fact that you get a console, controller and free game for around $50 less than a core Xbox 360 (or so I believe), I say it's a pretty fair deal.
-
$250 US? Ouch. That's around $300 Canadian.
I'll wait till it comes down to $150 (once the PS3 comes out and MS lowers the 360 prices - gotta love competition).
-
The pricing is fair, could've been a bit lower but it's good enough. I might it launch day.
Must get it for Zelda!!!
-
Ouiiii je veux une Wiiiiiii ! ^^#
(yesss i want a wiiii)
I think if price is 200/249$ in USA, in France cost 200/249 euros (il love the conversion in France lol:evil: XD )
-
haha i am off to toys r us to pre-order tomorrow. although i wont be getting the first shipment for sure since there are 60+ ppl ahead of me. i am pretty excited about this console now. i am glad i dont need to buy a special wireless router for Wii like i need to for my xbox. virtual console seems awsome, but my only concern is the cost of the games to download.
what games are u guys planning to get at launch? i am planning to get red steel, trauma centre, or maybe zelda/wario if thats a launch title.
btw i am quite surprise few of u guys think the console shouldve been lower in price. i think its fair since it cost about the same as the psp when it first came out. i think after i buy Wii and all other accessories, it will still cost less than a ps3!!hahaha

Wii March 2007 in Europe?
High street retailer banner drops potentially sphincter-tightening bombshell.
by Matt Wales
UK, September 14, 2006 - Here's some cheerful news to finish off the end of all you European-type's day. UK high street retailer Argos has flipped up a banner on its website, proclaiming, "Nintendo Wii: Launching March 2007". According to eagle-eyed ad-watchers, the banner previously read, "Nintendo Wii: Launching Winter 2006".
While we'd hardly count Argos as the most reliable source for Wii news, it's interesting (not to mention a little worrying) that the store has chosen to update its banner so close to Nintendo's official European Wii launch announcement, set to be made in London tomorrow during a press conference scheduled to begin at 12pm GMT.
Nintendo observers have been quick to point out that Wii launch details released so far seem to mirror the launch of the original DS in 2004, with the US recieving the handheld in November, closely followed by Japan in early December. Of course, that time around, the DS eventually hit Europe in March of the following year - a disturbing omen?
Before we slip on our shrouds and stomp around the garden ringing Nintendo's death knell, it's worth remember that nothing is set in stone until the company lays down its cards tomorrow. Rest assured, we'll be there in force for full, comprehensive coverage. Oh, and we'll also try and steal you all a Wii.

Wii DVD Movie Playback Out
NOA confirms that Wii will not play Hollywood DVD movies.
by Matt Casamassina
September 14, 2006 - Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies. The decision to remove the functionality was made in order to deliver the machine at a cheaper cost and because most people today already own DVD players.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732730p1.html

Still refusing to call it the Wii, but at least the zapper gun that the system will use looks decent. Almost looks like a shortened Winchester like they'd have in those old western movies.

HELL YEA
but yea man, im sorta excited to see how this REVOLUTION thing works out for nintendo

I might want to buy one, be my first console system here in america. (2nd ever)
-

Nintendo.ca quotes the Canadian MSRP to be $279.95. Although it's not cheap, it looks like they're not gonna try to hit us with a ridiculous exchange rate.
-
That price really hurts. I was hoping for a $199 price tag. :( There's at least 5 launch games I want too, so I think I need to start a Wii Fund.

Ok, I think I'll wait some time before buying it... >>

HHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH. This made me actually laugh out loud. I'm stealing it. It's as good as the Solid Snake gun-in-mouth one.
-
Apparently if you adjust for inflation this is actually the cheapest Nintendo console debut yet. Sure beats dropping what is it, 700 bucks for the PS3?
-
Apparently if you adjust for inflation this is actually the cheapest Nintendo console debut yet.
Gamecube's price was $199 when it launched.
-
I've only skimmed the notes regarding the Nintendo Wii but that controller.. the one in all the commercials, that isn't 'required' use, is it? I'm not going to be dancing around with a stick like a jungle beaver.. would like to retain what little dignity I still have.
-
ill own it day one

What?! 250 for a consol is dirt cheap! I cant believe there people complaing about the price! 360 is $400, ps3 600 and the Wii for 250...plus its a next gen system. Where is the high part? Heck a psp is 200 and its only a portable ps2! not new just portable!
-
well i guess ppl whine because there was always speculation that the Wii will be around 200 only. 250 to me is really cheap compare to my xbox360. of course, 360 is a more powerful console. but to me, a Wii is worth better than a psp for sure at 250 dollars.
-
I've only skimmed the notes regarding the Nintendo Wii but that controller.. the one in all the commercials, that isn't 'required' use, is it? I'm not going to be dancing around with a stick like a jungle beaver.. would like to retain what little dignity I still have.
by sitting on your ass moving your thumbs to move something on a tv screen?
The controller is pretty much the whole point of why the wii is what it is. If you don't use it, all you're getting is pretty much a gamecube with slightly better graphics...

NES to SNES, PS1 to PS2 were all "pretty much a ______ with slightly better graphics". The Wii is no different, I've seen the controller in action and some friends have tried it.. they've said, and amany magazines prophecized the same before it had been completely released, that it's a good idea in theory and concept but is a bit much for the average gamer.
Nintendo has came out with quite a few concepts from controllers to VR Systems (none became all too popular).. this is pretty far from 'revolutionary' but I would still like to play the new games for the stories and releases regardless of the controller.
-
well since touch screen feature from NDS pretty much dominated the handheld market, i think Wii can do the same for consoles. graphics aint everything for a good console. Nintendo will always produce good gameplays. i know Wii will worth my money when i finally have it at home playing it.
-
Nintendo hasn't really had much competition for handhelds aside from a while ago from Sega (Game Gear, was it? Something like that) and just now recently the PSP. I definitely plan to pickup the Nintendo Wii regardless.

Well nintendo isn't really trying to appeal to any niche market with the release of the Wii. They said themselves they don't want gamers playing their games, but everyone. The way a gamer and any other person sees video games is almost completely different. The idea behind the control is to appeal to everyone that DOESN'T play video games. Will their plan succeed? it's really only a matter of time til we find out. But from what I've noticed at how popular the DS was, I say there's a good chance of it. That's one of the main difference between the Wii and past non traditional video game accessories.
And when I was talking about "slightly" better graphics, I meant that literally. The Wii is barely better than the original XBOX when it comes to the graphics and processing power. That's because instead of thinking of ways to improve in that area, they thought of making the new controller and how they could implement that into gameplay. When you say that it's the same as the change from nes to snes and ps1 to ps2 graphic wise that's an understatement. At the time, the advancement in graphics and power were a pretty big deal when it comes to consoles.
-
my only question rite now is, how am i gonna play those action games they gonna put out?(Ex.smash bros)
i know ill enjoy Wii regardless. gameplay seems very nice and fun. i am really hoping. i think Wii , just like the DS will grab alot of non-gamers into playing it.
-
Well I think it's just gonna be FUN so I'm getting one :)
I've got lots of of other games to play anyways, plus I might get Xbox2 sometime too.
PS3 is excessively expensive :(
-
wii is awesome... and being the same architecture as Gamecube its really easy for developers to develope for the console... and the gamecube produced some of the most beautiful games last generation like F-zero GX, RE4, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Super Monkey Ball....
-
I'll wait and see how the whole controller thing works out. If they sell out the initial allotment of a million units in North America, there should be much word of mouth feedback by about February to know if it's a hit or a miss. If it works, there will be a ton of new game announcements from third party developers. Otherwise, it's Gamecube II, in which case I'll pick it up when it hits $99.00.
-
Not sure how much money to set aside for when it comes out? What if you buy 2 controllers instead of one? 2 games instead of 6? Go here to find out:
http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=2441
*Can do Canadian and American currency.
-
toys r us still havent given a price total for their bundle. but i am guessing it will be around 450-500 Canadian. that includes two games and a set of controllers.
but too bad that i might have to wait for the 2nd shipment to come since i am really far back in the lineup.
-
Nintendo is pretty good for releasing an adequate number at launch.
I'll probably wait a year for the price to drop. I'm not really interested in Wii games - just in getting the classic controller and playing SNES and Genesis sidescrollers...
-
I putting a deposit on a Wii tomorrow (Sunday). I'm trading in my PSP (obtained free as part of a mobile phone contract). I think at launch UK will see 6 games of which I intend to buy Zelda.
I like the idea that gamecube games can be played but also Nintendo are considering (not sure if this speculation - I think I read it somewhere) releasing "patches" to get a better fit of the controls for game cube games.
Does anyone know if this was ruled as rumour or not?
-
damn this topic is dead! anyways i have decided to go line up ROGERS videos if they are doing a mid night sale. relying on my pre-order at toys r us, i wont be getting it till december or even the new yrs.
btw, the Wii accessories are getting shipped over to where i work which is a air cargo warehouse. from time to time lots of nintendo shipments come through our warehouse. today i just saw boxes of Wii memory stick. i was so tempted to steal!!kaka

Wii gets DVD playback...in 2007
DVD-player manufacturer jumps gun on Nintendo announcement, says enhanced Wii due in "latter half of 2007."
When Nintendo dished out its final specifications for the Wii, there seemed to be one glaring omission--DVD playback. With the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 touting built-in multimedia players, the Wii seemed to be only next-generation console unable to provide movie playback.
Now, less than a week before the Wii is even on shelves for the first time, it appears that those final specifications weren't so final after all. After weeks of speculation and Internet reports, it has been confirmed that the Wii will eventually get DVD playback.
Sonic Solutions, makers of the popular Roxio CD- and DVD-burning software, today announced that it has been chosen by Nintendo to provide "high-quality DVD movie viewing to a future version" of the Wii. Sonic Solutions says the new version of the Wii is expected in "the latter half of 2007."
When asked for comment, a representative from Nintendo confirmed the statement from Sonic Studios.
Nintendo has yet to make a formal announcement about the new Wii, and has not indicated whether DVD playback is part of a console redesign.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6161611.html?tag=latestnews;title;4)
Ain't that a bitch. They should have stuck with putting the DVD playback in the first place.
-
Who cares?
I can buy a competent DVD player (all the Wii will be) for $25 (literally) from Wal-Mart.
I don't see DVD play back as a major selling point for consoles any more.
-
4 days away!! i hope TOYS R US will have a console for my preoder at launch so i dont have to lineup for one at best buy.
-
today i went to futureshop and asked about the numbers of Wiis they will have, amazingly, they will have around 80 at launch. i always thought they will have only around 30 at most?
hearing that, i am more optimistic about getting my pre-order at toys r us at launch since they have very good tides wit nintendo. so hopefully, they will have enough.
-
there is no hype at all for Wii it seems!! anyways i am fucking happy that ill be garenteed a console at launch since my local toys r us told me that everyone who pre-ordered will have it. it really shows how much consoles are launching on day one. i was listed at 78th spot on the pre-order list. i was pretty damn sure i wont get my console till the 2nd shipment. but i am so relieved that they have enough.
-
there were 4,000 units at the toys r us here. then again, it's the nyc times square toys r us. in any event, im sure they're all sold out now, given that people are jumping the gun on this year's black friday like crazy.
-
i just got back wit my Wii!!! cant believe everywhere is sold out now. glad i pre-ordered!!
apparently, toys r us had 25 extra units. but then it was gone in half an hr.
-
Take some pictures of it ahcheungape.
-
My friend bought three.
Only one is for him. The other two are for his brother and brother-in-law I assume.
I want one. ;_;
-
Hey guys, so I was debating whether or not I should wake up early and line up to pickup the system from my local Toys 'R Us (in Markham, suburb of Toronto) but then I figured it would be a miserable night for me with the cold weather. I had a preorder so I was guaranteed a system BUT I did want to pick up an extra set of of the Wiimote and Nunchuk. I decided to take my chances.
I slept in a bit today and ended up getting to TRU at around 2pm. They had a lot of people in the electronics department and some kids were walking around looking for the Wii. By the time I got there, a good chunk of the games were sold out...i.e. Red Steel, Rayman, Excite Truck, etc. Surprisingly, Zelda was still available...I know that Best Buy had Zelda going for 10$ cheaper and I asked if they were able to price match but BB was sold out. I ended up picking the system, Zelda and an extra Wiimote (no more nunchuks, bleh).
Here's a pic...sorrry for the low quality. Taken with the W810i.

I am now deciding whether or not I want to sell it instead. Despite having more units available for launch than the PS3, I've been hearing many retailers have sold out of the Wii as well.
-
i've been playing it for quite some time now. rayman is alot of fun. but Wii sports is also quite addictive. bowling is the best outa the bunch.
-
He is playing Wii for a week and sleeps only about 4 hours a day. Here is a live feed of it. He's been playing Zelda and right now Madden.

Now a webcamera is located near to TV. I started watching him playing Zelda. It really resembles Ocarina of Time.

i cant believe how fast Futureshop restock Wiis already. ppl are just walking in for a Wii. afterall , there is no need for camping.

Nice. and they have a good load of wiis out for christmas so walkins shouldn't be an issue. Played it for a bit at my friend's and wii sports is a pretty entertaining.

Nintendo wii is interesting, but i think that in this moment its too early for buy it.
The grafic is maybe two or three time better than gamecube. The games for now are not so interesting and the control system are interesting but no so revolutionary because the games either are not. I'm waiting for ps3. I will buy the wii when a new Zelda will be released.
P.S: Sorry for my english, but i'm Italian.
PPS: There is someone that can speak Japanese?
-
Wii sure has the most unique controller but otherwise it isn't that great. Graphics are mediocre and there's no really great games (maybe Zelda but It's made with GC dev kit). PS3 seems to be the best console at the moment if you don't mind the price .
-
Most people do mind the price, considering the amount of unsold PS3's just sitting there in US stores right now, and the amount of sold out Wii consoles.
Plus they keep selling out with every new shipment, while the PS3's just keep piling up :D
-
how much is the Wii generally sold in the us? is it following the official price tag?
In my country we don't have shortages of Wii(have no idea where all those Wiis came from), but the price tag is quite high, around $400.. so I was thinking of asking one of my relatives who lives there to buy one for me..
-
400 USD? o_O
It's 250 USD in the US I think, I wish you good luck in getting one though, as they're still relatively hard to find.
-
^ yeah, a total ripoff, right? >_<
I contacted my relative today and he said the same thing, haha :) he'll keep an eye out if one is available, though he said it's pretty hard to find one :p
Can't wait to get my hands on one xD
-

When will people understand that graphics don't make the game, its gameplay. Sure graphics are a plus but I would play a game that looks like crap and plays well than vice versa. The unique controller is the reason the gameplay is so great and killing both microsoft and sony even when there is a shortage of systems. Today's generation of gamers don't understand the gameplay concept. Look at the SNES/Sega Genesis era, those games had were more fun than some of today's great. I wish developers would go back to a time where they emphasized more on how fun a game was as compared to how pretty it looked.
-
Kind of revising this thread now, but I wanted to know so many months down the line, what games people bought / liked / disliked about the Wii.
I'm still running with my copy of Zelda and Wii Sports. Hoping to go out and buy some more games after my coursework is done.
-
I finally got to play it a while back but wasn't as impressed as so many other people. I don't care about how "cool" the controller is. Moving around versus pressing buttons doesn't really matter to me. When I get into a game, it's not like I'm thinking about it as just pressing buttons. Some of the games were fun to play, but I wouldn't say that they were worth buying the system for. It's still early though. I hope some REALLY good games come out for it soon. It seems like the DS. The games coming out at first are good, but the stylus/Wiimote doesn't feel like it makes the games any better. But hopefully developers will come up with better stuff soon.
I heard that Guilty Gear Accent Core is gonna come out for Wii and will support the old controllers but will also have Wiimote support. I wanna see how this turns out. It'll probably be cool for just casual play. There's a lot of button combinations in GG so I'm curious to see how they will do it.
I read somewhere that Manhunt 2 was banned in the UK(?), then suspended in the US because of the rating. Anyone know if it will still be on the Wii? I didn't like the first game that much, but I think it would be fun to play on the Wii.
-
imo, neither ps3 nor wii has a killer app yet.
they both have wonderful technology (graphics and controls respectively) but it's not really harnessed yet.
i guess the best use i've seen of the wiimote is warioware. but though it's fun and funny it's not a WOW game. let's wait....
-
I'm thinking about getting Super Paper Mario. To be honest, pretty much all 3rd party developers have admitted that their use of the wiimote has been poor.
I'm however also thinking of getting Resident Evil 4 for the Wii as I've enjoyed it so many times!
Still looking forward to super smash brothers!
-
Same here. I'm getting a Wii for Resident Evil 4 and Umbrella Chronicles. Resident 4 is for the Wii remote experience while Umbrella Chronicles is exclusive to Wii only.
-
Super Paper Mario is a pretty good game...keeps you busy for awhile haha. I just got Mario Party 8 and all i gotta say about that is...it's a pretty good party game XD. The games in Mario Party 8 kinda get boring and aren't as great as the previous Mario Party mini-games, but it still has it's fun factor.
-
At the moment, whenever I get together with friends I'm always asked to bring the Wii along now, it's just so much fun!
That's why I'm keen on the multiplayer battle games!
-
guys I'm thinking of buying a wii, but want to know if i have to use an LCD tv to play it with. I currently only use a 29 inch flat tv with component input. will that do?
-

It's not necessary to have an LCD tv to play it. The Wii has multiple ports so you can hook it up to older as well as newer TVs. :thumbsup
-
I see, that's good to know, thanks! :D
-
Wii Fit: http://e3.nintendo.com/wii_fit.html
It looks beyond awesome.
Now if I can find a Wii somewhere.
-
^ I see a lot of hardcore gamers complaining about this. Guess it must be that they can't accept that games can be catered to a mainstream audience and also the thought of getting exercise scares them.
-

:?
No one is going to force them to play.
I quite fancy the idea of losing a few pounds myself.
-
^ I never said nobody was forcing them. It was an attempt at a joke, which may have failed quite spectacularly XD
-
XD
No worries.
I set up Toys R Us' email alert to send to my cellphone if they get any Wiis in stock (they seem to be the only Canadian retailers getting regular shipments for sale to the general public). Hopefully I'll have a chance to get one soon.
-
Update: Ordered it this morning. Should be arriving mid-next week sometime.
-
Could we possibly see a Square Enix RPG with the Wii Fit board in mind? (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/square-enix-interested-in-wii-fit-for-rpg/)
Don't know how it would work though. Hope it wouldn't be a random battle system, cause you'd just get exhausted!
-
Just waiting for SSBB for the wii. Last game I got for Wii was Harry Potter OOTP, and its nice. My SSBB, been waiting for that forever.

That would be fun. Even more fun if you combine it with a DDR mat and a Guitar Hero III controller.
I got Resident Evil 4 and Zelda Twilight Princess so I'll have stuff to play when my Wii finally arrives. Toys R Us is taking their time on shipping it. :(
My future want list:
Metroid Prime 3 (August)
Super Mario Galaxy (Dec)
Wii Fit (2008)
Guitar Hero III (Dec)
Soul Calibur Legends (Nov)
DDR Hottest Party (Sept)
Mario Kart (Nov)
The tail-end of this year is going to be pretty big I think. Plus getting some VC games too.

My Wii #: 7067 2306 2263 8008
Feel free to add me.

i just figured out that the Wii is capable of a web browser but it's need to be downloaded. there was once a free download but now u have to pay with 500 wii points... i was wondering if anyone have that saved so they can upload for me... that is if it's even capable of something like that. i'm thinking of downloading it off the net then transfer it to a SD card then install it on the Wii... will it work like that?
EDIT: i guess what i'm talking about is the Internet Channel for the Nintendo Wii.
btw, if there is a free Virtual Console game downloads instead of using the Wii points....
-
I'm not how that would work. I wasn't aware you could install software from an SD card.
There's a number of sites out there that have Flash games that are playable on the Wii. A quick Google will turn them up. Some of them are a lot of fun.
-
^ flash games for the wii? cool I'lbb be sure to check that out
-
I want a wii to play Mario Galaxy. I want to play anything with mario in it.
-
^
I played Mario Galaxy the other day at our local GameStop (who had it for demo WAY before the release date, wow). It seems like it will be incredibly fun, honestly. I can not WAIT for it to come out. :D

Demo's usually come out before release, it helps the hype machine. But with the reviews mario Galaxy has received I know (or hope) it will be greater than sunshine.
-
I managed to order a copy of Guitar Hero III. Again from Toysrus.ca. They seem to update their website's stock in the middle of the night, so I'm able to snag hard to find stuff by virtue of getting up for school at 6:30.
-
i'm waiting for the new super smash bros. brawl to come out, i think that'll be awesome. but i think before i do that, i should start playing 2 of the new games i bought (it came in a bundle) that hasn't even been open yet... hehe...
-
My friend wants to buy a wii.. but he has doubts.. I keep trying to convince him, so I can leech
The new smash brothers is going to be so much fun.. the new mario games look fun too. I'd like to try super paper mario 2 (or whatever it's called.. the 2d/3d game..), seems interesting.
-

You mean Super Paper Mario? That's what the Wii Paper Mario is called.
You should totally try it out if you get the chance. It's not a very long game (I wasn't expecting to be anyway), but it is SO FUN and not to mention pretty hilarious.
-
There is also that Super Mario Galaxy game. It seems interesting to me, the title is a bit "kiddy kiddy" in my opinion
-
Played Mario Galaxy just now.. what to say.. couple of things:
1. Graphics are good.
2. You can see and feel that they spend a lot of time on this game, which is good.
3. Kinda childish..
4. The camera is so annoying.. well, maybe not the camera as such, but the fact that you're running around planets and are upside down sometimes.. it's nausiating.
5. Controls are kinda sloppy sometimes, but that could be just me.
Overal I'd say it is a good game, but not that good as most websites are saying (9.7/10 etc).
-
^I've actually heard really great things about it from friends. I'm thinking of getting it since I just got a wii last week, and no games but wii sports.
The remotes now come with these padded soft gell sleeves which I think is a really nice addition for safety reasons.
You can get free ones if you bought a wii before directly from nintendo.
-
The remotes now come with these padded soft gell sleeves which I think is a really nice addition for safety reasons.
Actually its more to deal with the sweaty hands issue than safety. A little padding is not gonna help if you fling your wii mote.
But Mario Galaxy is awesome. I for one agree with the really high ratings. Only thing I dislike about it, which BarrieV mentioned was the camera. It gets frustrating when you are upside down and you tilt the stick one way and mario goes the other way.
-
Argh... ive been planning on getting a Wii since last month but no store seem to have them in stock. Super Mario Galaxy was the turning point for me into getting one having played a little at my friends... and with Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and Zack and Wiki the Wii will definitely keep me entertained for a long, LONG time.
And if that wasnt enough, once February hits Super Smash Brawl will take over my life... and my house since my friends would never want to leave.
Yes... definitely a great time to pick up a Wii, if i could only find one... :depressed:
EDIT: Finally found a Wii in stock at my local Wal-Mart!! I rushed over and there was a long line up for but thankfully they just got the shipment in today so they had plenty for everyone!
-
There was a line for it in the store? LOL, at the Best Buy I work at if I get some in the middle of the day, you'll see people fighting over them.
-
once February hits Super Smash Brawl will take over my life
lol, quoted for truth, in my view.
I'm thinking about buying a classic controller to play that game, I can't see myself playing that with the wiimote and numbchucks.
-
I like the classic controller for VC games anyway. Apparently you can also play with the classic controller as well as the Wiimote/Nunchuks it's attached too - so getting 4 controllers together for multiplayer won't be too hard.
-

Yeah I just got the game this week. I absolutely agree with all that you said. I've only played it a little bit in the last few days just because it does feel to Kiddy to me. I don't really feel like the game is really grabbing me. The boss fights are pretty much the only thing I look forward to. It just seems too easy sometimes.
I've had the Wii since it came out but only have about 4 games since I got it. Most of the games that are out just dont grab my attention, I'd say thats the only problem the Wii currently has, for me at least. But Smash Bros will change that.
p.s. Has anyone played Soul Calibur Legends? Or Fire Emblem? I want to get those but I don't want to base my decisions solely on what websites rate them.
-
I was over at SSB dojo, and found out that I can use the wiimote easily (I wasn't thinking about how it could be turned sideways) guess I don't need to buy that classic controller anymore. Maybe, so I could play my old gamecube games, my neighbor messed up my only one
-

yup.. and on top of that you could also use gamecube controllers to play as well, so it wont be too hard for a 4 player multiplayer match.
For me, ill b using a gc controller since im familiar with the controls...but im curious on how the classic controller will feel like.
-
And apparently my Mom hates DDR because "it's not like real dancing". OK.
-
We just got a Wii and my parent won't stop playing it AND they have beaten all of my high scores in wii sports that not natural I'm very upset. And what is a good game I should get I havent played anything nintendo since I got my playstation and never touched anything nintendo since I got my wii.
-
^ I would say that the Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess, is a must have for the Wii, it's just amazing
I love Mario, but I'm not interested in the Galaxy game, even though ppl say its good.
and if your a harry potter fan, you should get the order of the phoenix, y'kno, wiimote=wand.

i currently have 3 games plus the Wii sports, Zelda, Prince of Persia and Super Paper Mario. i had these games since i bought my Wii earlier this year but only play the Wii sports and Prince of Persia. i had not played the other games yet, but am going to soon. i just thought that i should at least finished Prince of persia before i played the other two but think that that is kinda foolish. but i also would love to buy some new wii games but then again, since i haven't even started on my other two, i shouldn't be buying some new ones. the one i want is Super smash bro brawl.
i also want to ask for some tips and tricks with the Wii remote in Wii Sports. mostly boxing and tennis movement. i can't seem to have good control of it. my aim is way off and such. since i'm left handed, would that affect gameplay cuz it seems when i choose my mii and set it to left-handed, my aim seems to worsen, with tennis i seem to have a better time playing with the settings on RH but play with my left hand.
does holding the wii remote in a specific angle help?
-
I'm left handed and I have a 2500~ish rating in Tennis. :)
Tennis comes down to getting the timing right and doing a forward or backhand depending on what's called for at the time.
Don't worry too much about accuracy, just focus on volleying it back to the computer. When you see the opportunity, spike it off the front court at a sharp angle to score.
When returning the computer's power serves, just do a quick motion since you won't have time to do a full swing.
I suck at boxing, so I can't help you much there.
-
another game you guys should check out for the wii is Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. its a first person shooter arcade style instead of the usual 3rd person walk around. fun game to play with a friend. As said earlier, zelda is a must have. if you have the cash (or a modded wii), get medal of honour 2, great online action =D
-
^ Hey I've seen a wii-gun attachment supposedly for use with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and another game. It's not a separate device, just an attachment so you can hold the wii-mote like you would a gun. Wonder if it works any better with those shooter games. Here's a pic:
-
Well there is Wii Zapper, which is an "official" product by Nintendo. It looks like this.
There are other companies that produced a gun-shaped holder for Wii, and I'm guessing the one you showed is from one of those company.
Update - The gun you have above is called Wii Light Gun, produced by Brando. There is another gun holder called Wii Blaster produced by Core Gamer, which looks like this.
-
^ Ahhh I gotcha, anyone got any experience with these? Actually make the gun games easier?? I didn't even know the RE game for the wii was FPS, thought it was like all the rest, really got me thinking bout it. If anyone played any of the Time Crisis games or House of Dead, would the RE game be comparable or what not, I loved those type of shooter games.
-
The gun does make FPS games easier to play on Wii.
RE4 for Wii is almost the same as RE4 of other consoles, except it is part 3rd person walking and FPS. You still earn points in the game and use it to upgrade/buy gears. RE The Umbrella Chronicle is full FPS, with earning points to upgrade weapons like RE4 does.
-
Nyko's Perfect Shot is another gun accessory you might be interested in.

Seems like a great gun... 9.3 overall score.

yay for games like super mario galaxy and super paper mario

For me it actually made gameplay harder since you have to use the d-pad at the top to do some stuff.

LOL i saw that on Attack of the Show the other day... its called the Chintendo Vii i believe.
Heres the CM for it:

EDIT: The disassembly of the Chintendo Vii. Made me ROFL hard when they took the cover off. XD

-
Chintendo Vii? lmao
but honestly why would they even do that? It seems like (by the games they are playing in the commercial) one of those Atari-like games where you just plug into the TV, and start playing. I know WWE had a game like. I forgot the brand of that system, but they seemed pretty cheap. I remember going to Toy's R Us, and they would have those things right outside the Video Game section on a shelf.
-
yeah i saw that CM once
They already brought the vii2.... But should we care about such a cheap knockoff.
The Chinese copy almost everything that exists

anyone have morning musume mii's? FINALLY playing resident evil 4 ... my impression so far? best resident evil ever, and i've been playing resident evils since the very 1st one! i have yet to beat it!
-
Yeah I got Koharu's mii :D
I can't believe they pushed Brawl back again..*sigh*
-
Again? That sucks.
I feel guilty. I don't think I've turned my Wii on during the month of January yet.
-
I really want to play as Dedede and Meta Knight in Brawl.. awesome.
I just learned about the UR Mr Gay joke in Mario Galaxy
-
I got money for a Wii for my birthday
But I just gotta find a store that doesn't force me to buy some $600 bundle first :banghead:

GET READY! <br> everyone who has a wii should be ready to start playing this. i know i am!
-
If it ever comes out. ;)
-
Is it true that you can use the 'wii classic controller' on a gamecube? I know it works the other way around..
-
I thought the wii classic connects to the remote and not the console?
-

no.
-
If it ever comes out. ;)
Exactly. Why don't they just make the release Decemer 2015
I thought the wii classic connects to the remote and not the console?
You're correct, it does
-
Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Too bad, because my friend's gamecube controllers keep breaking..
-
OK. Just summed up all my courage (and cash) and bought a Wii yesterday for the coming myth that is SSBB.
Bought the jap version just so I could get my hands on it quicker (and to laugh at the english gaming population for a month  ...hope it doesn't go out of stock on release day...) :O
I had a massive internal conflict. Cos Wii is region-unfriendly. :(
On one hand, if I bought the US Wii I'd get to play games I understand! ... but it quickly lost to the vision of kicking sonic's a*** with mario~ :inlove:
Also got Mario Galaxy and Wii Fit (I am now officially 37 years old... where did those 9 years go!!) :P
UPDATE: Just called the shop I normally buy games from, and they just received SSBB(jap) stock this afternoon! Will check tommorow to see if I can snatch a copy.
:farofflook:
-
Nifty. That's real dedication.
I'll be going to be SSBB party on the North American release date on the 15th. Hopefully we'll have a copy at that point. ;)
-
winner, i saw you get wii fit too, how is that game?
-
I've tried the soccer headbutt-game and hula hoop. I kept missing the ball. the hula hoop really made me exercise...!
Tip: Remember the receiver is on the board, I kept moving my head. Then saw the eg. pic at the bottom and found that it was sensing the movement of your body weight. baka! :D
I can see it being a nice end-of-day habit for me (with the body-flexing, etc...), since I'm stuck at the office desk too much.
Don't expect becoming Hulk in 3 days tough, unless you're going the buy 2 boards for weightlifting~
I'm sure there are more conventional ways to exercise. Fit just makes it fun and records the progress for you to see, so I guess it's a great thing for making kids into it too.
Note: Since you're standing for the game, the height the tv is placed is a cause of concern (especially if you're gaming room is really small).
-
I finally bought a Wii xD I bought the US version. currently playing and loving Mario Galaxy ^_^
If anyone wants to add me please do! my code is:

^ congrats on getting your wii. just in time for smash bros. hahaha.
-
Brawl in a few days!!! :w00t:
-
Yep! Comes out Sunday, I pre-ordered on Amazon to make sure I get a copy (and save a trip across town), so it should be here Wednesday.
-
^ why wednesday? seems like a long wait. you wouldve been better off just picking it up at a store.
-
Well, that's how long it takes to ship. It doesn't matter to me particularly since I probably won't have time to play it until Saturday anyway.
-
I thinking of buying a US Wii purely for the fact that games get realised there before the UK. Just need to find somewhere to buy one for a good price. Any suggestions of online stores?
At least I know I can sell my UK one on because so many of my friends are still after them.
Hmm...
-
^ congrats on getting your wii. just in time for smash bros. hahaha.
yup ^_^ can't wait for that =D looking forward to online play as well :)

Well Wii's are still really hard to find in US stores. You pretty much have to get them the day they're shipped which isn't too hard to find out if you call or ask. And from what I've seen it's just as hard to find them online unless you like at ebay or amazon market.
-
wii is for chicks  gooooo ps3!! :shakeit:
jk i have a wii too lol
-
i just saw the u.s. commercial for smash bros. is anyone else starting to get tired of the "wii would like to play" theme to ALL wii games. they're all the same just with different game footage. the concept was cool at first but its seriously getting old. they couldve made a SWEET smash bros commercial. oh well, it sell like crazy anyway.
-

Thanks for your answer. I didn't think they'd be harder to get hold of then the UK one's. I think I'll stick with mine then and just sit patiently (if I can) for game releases.
Sucks
-
ooo ooo but the new Wii Freeloader disc allows you to play imported games for 10 pounds, and is proven to work with the current Wii software updates and Smash Bros works with it!
The only thing is you'll need your Wii to be hooked up to your TV with a Scart or Composite cable, I'm having a hell of a time getting a Scart cable (but Amazon do have some official ones) I might just stop myself buying the game early because I want to pass my exam this year, haha.
-
^ Ahh, thanks for that info. That's so great - definitely buying one!
-
I wanna buy a wii just for MarioKart (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rmcj/index.html), which they are flogging the hell out of here..
-
I've got it pre-ordered, and I'm not even a fan of the series!
-
Definately getting that, been a fan of the series since the original.
I find pre-orders are pretty useless(atleast around here), if you try for a midnight release you'll probably get it anyway, like I did for brawl. Unless the people at the store you go to are assholes >_>
Also you'll most likely be able to find the game a week later if you don't care about getting it release day.
-

Through Amazon, so it'll just ship out when it comes in stock. It's more a laziness thing than a Gotta have it! thing.

I want a wii fit so bad!
-
Had my wii for nearly a year now. I play Super Smash Bros Brawl pretty much everyday lol. I got a Wii Fit day one haven't opened it yet. I love No More Heroes. I also got both Resident Evil games on the wii and I have two different guns for my wii. I also have Mario Kart only played it twice........didn't like it cause i prefer new maps not the same thing every mario kart. It wasn't bad but didn't like it.

^ 8 bit fidelity engine... lol, i wonder if that sounded super high tech back than?
how're you likin the wii so far dai?
-
^^ The sprites and beeps of that must be fuckin sweet.
Personally, I got tired of the wii after a few months since I don't really play games with other people but my brother at home. I played it more when I went over to other people's places, cause it's really not that great when you're playing most games by yourself... It pretty much lost all its innovation when almost all of the games for it are just a bunch of party mini-games.
If Rock Band for it didn't suck so bad, I'd probably play it more...
-

All they need to do now is RE:3 and make it less sucky... but I guess that was in Umbrella Chronicles.. so maybe not.

Looks great. I'm also excited for New Super Mario Bros Wii. The DS game is EPIC win. Though I have no friends to play with. :sweatdrop:
On a negative note, I haven't played my Wii in quite a while, so I thought I'd pop in Mario Galaxy and play for a while, but I noticed there was a system update. I thought what the hell and let it start. No bullshit, it took THIRTY MINUTES to download, install, or whatever it was doing. :bleed eyes: Most system updates are like that for me. Is that normal or what, cuz by the time it was done, I had already ran over enough people in GTA4 that I was appeased. XD
-

So detailed!
-
OMG! *_*
I must have the new Super Mario Galaxy game!
-
I already pre ordered my New Super Mario Bro's Wii as well as the RE: Darkside Chronicles. I just recently bought the Resident Evil blaster and playing RE: The Umbrella Chronicles waiting for Darkside Chronicles......I want it NOW!!! lol have to get more Resident Evil.
-
My sister just got a free Wii as part of getting a new phone contract so it's sitting up in the living room waiting for some games! Only have Wii Sports Resort for it at the minute which is pretty fun to play through. My nephew is obsessed with the swordplay lol, the whole family was in stitches watching his overenthusiastic swings and thrusts
So anyway, with only one game I was wondering what game I could go for next, and the one that springs out most to me is Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Prime Trilogy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8klx34R8m8#ws-lq-lq2-hq)
3 games in 1? 2 Gamecube classics remade for Wii controls and updated graphics? Sounds like good value to me. No release date as yet for Europe though so can anyone make other recommendations? Take into account that I won't be playing it that much as the whole family would like a go at it, and my sis is sharing it with her boyfriend too! Only others I can maybe think of getting are Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes and Madworld. Though seeing all these RE versions is making me want to look into them a bit more!
-
If you're aiming to get a wii then look into the following titles.
Madworld
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Bros Brawl
No More Heroes
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess
Punch-Out
There are all all addicting titles and as far as the RE games if you already played them there's no point in getting them cause I have the remake of one but it was pointless cause the gamecube remake was the exact same thing and this didn't even have wii controls so no point in keeping this game. So Tuffty I hope this has helped you in making up your mind on a game if not lol nvm then.
-
+1 for Super Mario Galaxy. that game was very fun :)
that metroid trilogy looks great! I never played the GC version.
-
^ Then quite simply, it is a must buy. Metroid Prime deserves the appraisal as a modern classic. It's incredibly atmospheric with haunting music and rock solid gameplay. I'm excited to replay it over again and explore the Chozo Ruins or the Phendrana Drifts once more. Prime 2 is probably just as good IMO but because I played Prime first, I will always think it's the best one.
-
I've beaten Prime but only played the multiplayer on Echos and I never had Corruption so this is indeed a must buy 3 great games and a lot of extras.

I used to play Mario Party and WiiSports A LOT with some friends who lived up the street from me. They moved away, so now I battle almond in Wii Tennis and Tetris.

It's almost 3 years and Nintendo has yet to cut the price of the wii. It's starting to look ridiculous hardware wise when you put it along side the recently price cut 360 and PS3. The recent price cuts from the competition might be putting a bit of pressure for Nintendo to cut the price as well. Though I suspect that they will try to hold out and wait till the new year before even considering to move the price.
Doesn't matter too much for me personally as I have had mine for awhile but I have a friend whose system recently died, so he is in a bad position right now. I say keep going to your friend's house to satisfy your curiosity ;).
Don't know why his system died. Though I think the quality control has been going down a bit. I had send my Wii into warranty repair after noticing that the disc drive was bringing up more errors in a few months than my gamecube (a launch model; when they still made them in Japan :twothumbs) ever had in it's entire life. Unsurprisingly the disk drive was replaced by a slightly louder one and I have not had a problem since. I'll give credit to Nintendo for the quick turnaround (around a week).

I think it's also that the Wii is a mature system. Even with a price drop, I think by now everyone that wants a Wii probably has one. As a result, there really isn't the same incentive to cut the price as with the PS3/360 where they'll still fighting for market share.
From what I've seen Nintendo doing lately, my guess is they plan to cater to existing owners mostly (i.e. with the improved motion control) and position themselves for the next generation.
-
^ I agree, whoever wants a Wii, already has one for sure. And with where Wii is going lately, it's for people who already have one and want to improve their gaming experience.
PS3 has to drop their price because it was so high, but they're not enhancing gameplay either, they just keep making new systems. Whereas the Wii isn't focused on making new systems, but just making add ons to their one system so people wont have to go and buy new ones and they wont have to drop the price on the original Wii. :) Seems like a good idea to me.

Wii price cut - by $50 to $199 (US). A bit overdue probably.
It also contradicts what I said a little before. Oh well. XD

Gamers view the Nintendo Wii as the family console. The video game manufacturer’s current consoles tend to be more popular with women and older gamers. If one can believe the claims of Amanda Flowers, marketers may be able to find a new niche market for the Wii. The new market is certainly one that Nintendo never though of exploiting.
If husbands think that going out and buying a Wii and the Wii Fit game will instantly turn their wife or girlfriend into a sex addict, they may want to reconsider the option. Flowers suffered a never injury when she fell of the Wii Fit board. Since Flowers experienced this injury, she experiences arousal from even the slightest of vibrations. She claims the cell phones, blenders and even the slightest vibrations can make her horny. The nerve injury resulted in a condition called ‘persistent arousal syndrome’ and is not linked to Wii Fit specifically.
The Daily Star reports that the 24-year-old Woman needs to have sex at least ten times a day to satisfy her passion. Men looking for a way to recreate the injury may be disappointed, although Amanda Flowers might be looking for a man who can satisfy her needs. Potential candidates would have to move to , Manchester.

Ok so I thought over Wii games that I'd like to play now considering I have more time to play them. I've narrowed my options down to Metroid Prime Trilogy, No More Heroes 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I'm thinking of getting Metroid Prime because I love the first two so much, so atmospheric and I'd love to play through them again. And considering I never played Prime 3, there will be a new experience for me anyway. Besides 3 quality games for the price of 1? Can't beat that.
If anyone has suggestions feel free to tell me.

Well, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is glorious. Definitely the best game I've played so far this year IMO. Although New Super Mario was my favorite game last year (yes I'm a Mario whore and they are the only games I have on wii besides sports/play/Tiger Woods :P). I've never been much into Metroid and haven't played any of the No More Heroes games so I can't really help beyond that.

My sister got a Wii for graduating High school (Wish I had got something like that back then)
On a good note - I played Wii Sports Resort - It was quite fun (Definitely want to play Super Mario Galaxy 2...among other things.)

Just found out about Kirby Epic Yarn! I'm a massive Kirby fan and this looks EPIC! I'm seriously considering buying a wii now... I'm a playstation guy, but I miss the cool platforming action that nintendo has to offer.
I always disliked the Wii because of the controls... but I guess if I only play platform games I can just use the wii mote as a classic controller.
