This is a popular sci-fi novel made in 1973 and it's been adapted many times, but as an anime movie, it's a first.
Abeno 6th Junior high school is a high-ranked school but the morals of the school begin to deteriorate due to the stressful atmosphere. A beautiful girl named Takamizawa Michiru becomes the chairperson of the student council and controls the school through force and brainwashing. Seki Koji, one of the students, opposes to her violent ruling but finds there is a psychic boy who pulls the strings from behind.

It’s been revealed that AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu will be lending her voice for upcoming anime film “Nerawareta Gakuen“, and will also sing its theme song.
This anime film is based on Mayumura Taku’s Sci-Fi novel, but with the addition of new interpretations. Though “Nerawareta Gakurn” has been adapted as live action dramas/movies several times, this will be the first anime adaptation. The story is set at a junior high school in Kamakura, and depicts mysterious events happening between 14-year-old boys and girls.
Watanabe will voice act for the protagonist ‘Suzuura Natsuki’. Watanabe commented, “Though I’m a little anxious, I would like to enjoy voice acting for this. Since ‘Natsuki’, whom I’m voice acting for, is a very cheerful, cute, and charming girl, I’ll try my best so that people watching the anime will like her!” The details on the theme song sang by Watanabe will be announced later on. It was also revealed that ‘Natsuki’s childhood friend ‘Seki Kenji’ will be voice acted by Honjo Yutaro.
The anime film will be created by Sunrise (“Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon”, Accel World”), directed by Nakamura Ryosuke (“MONSTER”, “Mouryou no Hako”), and its opening theme song will be sung by supercell.
Anime film “Narawareta Gakuen” is set for a release on November 10th.

AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu wants to use ESP for the upcoming Janken Tournament?
AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu will be lending her voice to Suzuura Natsuki in the upcoming anime film “Nerawareta Gakuen”, which will be released on November 10th, and recently held the recording for the anime at a studio in Tokyo. The role is supposed to be lively, Watanabe commented, “She’s energetic, so I tried to sound energetic too”.
The film is a modern day adaptation of Mayumura Taku’s science-fiction novel. Natsuki freely uses her psychic abilities in the anime. When Watanabe was asked what power she would want she responded immediately, “I want the warp ability, because I do things slowly at my own pace”.
The AKB48 members will be chosen to sing in their 29th single via the “Senbatsu Janken Tournament” on September 18th. This time, Watanabe’s seed position allows for her to win just one match to become a senbatsu member. “That one match is important. I’m so nervous that my heart is racing.” Watanabe claims that she is weak at Janken, and she discussed about what it would be like to use ESP abilities to win the match. “I would want to use it, but I shouldn’t…but I would want to”.

ANIME NEWS: AKB48's Mayu Watanabe attends public recording session for 'Nerawareta Gakuen'

Mayu Watanabe of the all-female pop idol group AKB48 attended a public post-recording session for the "Nerawareta Gakuen" animated feature held Sept. 11.
Watanabe, also a member of AKB48's subgroup Watariroka Hashiritai, made her voice acting debut in April with the "AKB0048" animated TV series.
"Nerawareta Gakuen" is based on a juvenile fiction story of the same name by Taku Mayumura, one of Japan's first-generation science fiction writers.
A feature film adaptation, aka "School in the Crosshairs" or "The Aimed School," was made in 1981, with director Nobuhiko Obayashi at the helm and actress Hiroko Yakushimaru playing the leading role.
So far, six live-action adaptations have been made. It is the first anime adaptation of the novel.
In a departure from the original story, the anime takes place at a junior high school in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Watanabe plays the role of junior high school girl Natsuki, with Yutaro Honjo ("Eureka Seven AO"), Daisuke Ono ("Space Battleship Yamato 2199") and Kana Hanazawa ("Kobato.") playing the other main characters.
"This is the first time for me to play a leading role in an anime movie, and I am so excited to be part of such a big project because I love anime," Watanabe told reporters after the public recording session.
"Nerawareta Gakuen" will hit Shinjuku Piccadilly cinema complex and other theaters nationwide on Nov. 10.

AKB’s Mayuyu with short hair, cosplay for the anime movie she stars in
Watanabe Mayu from the popular idol group AKB48 appeared in a cosplay of Natsuki, the main character she voiced, at a press conference for the anime movie “Nerawareta Gakuen” that took place on the 18th. She wore a short-haired wig and seemed very pleased as she said, “I copied everything. I’ve put in effort to even the smallest of details,” and showed the star mark on her right shoulder. Nerawareta Gakuen Hybrid Disc Contains A Complete Digital Art Book

Namco Bandai’s strategy for anime DVDs is to release them as "Hybrid Discs." Remember how Tekken Hybrid had the movie Tekken: Blood Vengeance and Tekken Tag Tournament HD? In Japan, the .hack movie included a CyberConnect2 fighting game .hack//Versus and Eureka Seven AO: The Flowers of Jungfrau also has an Eureka Seven AO game for PS3.
Nerawareta Gakuen will be released as a Hybrid Disc too, but instead of a game Namco Bandai added a complete art book collection. You’ll get a character art book, collection of illustrations / publicity materials, storyboards, and an anime guide from Ryusuke Hikawa. Altogether, the digital art book collection is 1,700 pages.
The Nerawareta Gakuen Hybrid Disc will be released on June 6 in Japan.
