HKT48 announced today that they will release their major debut single on March 20, 2013. The single, currently untitled, will include the song “Onegai Valentine” which will be used in a CM for Lotte’s Ghana Milk Chocolate.

The only other information available from HKT48 right now is that the single will be available in 3 varieties, A, B and C, all of which will contain a DVD and a ticket to a national handshaking event. If the trend from the many past releases from the AKB family hold true, there will also likely be a version without a DVD.

Kodama Haruka (Team H)’s comment

Regarding the announcement, Sashihara Rino enthusiastically said: “The date has finally been announced! I want everyone in Japan to come to know the charms of HKT48! We’ll do our best!”

Kodama Haruka talked about the CM Song: “We’re currently recording the CM song for Lotte Ghana Milk Chocolate, ‘Onegai Valentine’. I’m happy that it’s going to be on our debut single! It’s a very cute and catchy song and is great for people who hope to convey their feelings this Valentine’s day!”

Kenkyuusei Tashima Meru quipped: “The CD debut we’ve all been dreaming of has been decided. I’m so excited! I want lots of people to discover the youth and freshness of HKT48 and see that we’re different from the other 48 groups.”

HKT48 performed Onegai Valentine in the encore on Day 3 of Request Hour 2013 and it's SO GOOD! Tashima Meru is center for this one. I was too excited to screencap so hopefully someone will deliver. Best outfits since Iiwake, Maybe. SONG OF THE YEAR 2013 FFOOOOOOO

I was really happy with this perf. Girls looked great, song is pretty fun, outfits are really good... it was a pleasant surprise to hear it last night/this morning. :lol: HKT48 will definitely rise to power this year. Their first single sales will be interesting to watch!

Love the covers! If I was just getting one, I'd probably get Type C based on the covers alone, my top 4 are all right there~ Meru as center? I'm cool with that now. She may not be interesting on Hyakkaten, but when you see her perform she's got the chops. She's proven she deserves a top spot, more so than Haruppi has in my opinion. Maybe this will stir Haruppi into stepping up her game. That is, if she's really wanting to.

PV is cute overload, songs seems like good but fairly typical idol fair. I think it's a good start for HKT48. :thumbup And whaddaya know, Meru center! Honestly, I've no issue with it. I understand why they're pushing her now. Having seen and gotten to know her a little bit, she's really good at what she does. Better than Haruppi or Sakura? In my opinion, not quite, but I don't really have a problem with her at the helm either. It works.

I think the single cover look neat. I can't really make out the song in the preview tho, sounds messy lol. Hopefully it will be better when the full version comes out. I still think Hatsuoka Butterfly is their best song so far tho. :lol:

Some thoughts on centreship:
Personally I don't mind Meru, but I don't see how she is better than Haruppi really. I don't really see her as better than Kodama performance-wise, & Haruppi is imo vastly better at the variety front. I have to admit thought I haven't seem a lot of HKT's live performances, & it seems many do think Meru is better than Haruppi in performance presences. I don't really mind her getting pushed, but I do think management have the tendency to push too hard, as the are doing right now. I can see a double centre working out for HKT, & double centres seems to have worked quite well for SKE & NMB. Giving HKT double centre wouldn't hurt imo, & can certainly calm down potential hostility between Team Meru & Team Haruppi.

I think there's really three candidates now for future HKT centreship:
Meru: Really good performance-wise. Can work on variety I guess. Favoured by management. Might draw the ire of original Team H fans.
Haruppi: Great variety. Sometimes does seem off in performance tho. Original centre & third overall in single handshake thus far.
Sakura: Most popular (excluding Sasshi) & original Team H members. I guess she's in between the two in both variety & performance lol.

These are my personal thoughts tho. I would love to hear what do you think of it! :)

As you can see, Mio (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=34297.0) is the 2nd gen to watch - completely slaying all of 1st gen excluding Sakura.

I hate debates about the "future centre", especially in a thread about this single so won't join in but certainly by popularity, the centre isn't the ace here, of 2nd gen, or including the Team H members.

I'm kindof surprised to see Lovetan so low, but shows you can't just waltz in from the big AKB and expect to be one of the top dogs.

Meru center, fuck yeah.

Makes me really happy to see that she got the center position. She's been doing well on TV shows and such, hopefully she cements her position with more appearances. The song is not too bad, although nothing extraordinary. Still inclined to get it, although maybe getting the theater version would be best. Really hate the tsundere color scheme though. It was nice for that song, but this one just looks really jarring.

This is the best first week sales for a female artist’s debut single, and HKT48 has broken the previous record of 218,000 copies which was achieved by NMB48 with their debut single “Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo” (released in July 2011).
