AKB48’s Kasai Tomomi to make her solo debut
On November 10, AKB48’s Kasai Tomomi (20) appeared in Tokyo for JRA’s (Japan Racing Association) ’Kasai Project‘ event.
During this event, it was announced that the idol would be making her solo debut under Nippon Crown on December 26. “I was surprised. It’s still like a dream,” she expressed. She will be holding her solo debut live during the Japan Cup this coming 25th at Tokyo Keibajo.
Earlier in spring, JRA started their campaign, ‘AKB no Gachi Uma‘, in which 27 AKB48 members over the age of 20 competed by betting on a horse race to star in JRA’s new CM. As the winner, Kasai will not only be getting a CM, but also a solo debut.
Kasai commented, “A solo debut was my dream. Because I’m used to a large number of people, I get nervous when I appear alone on variety shows. When it comes to singing, I think I’m going to be even more nervous. But this was my dream, so I want to enjoy it.”
Although her debut single hasn’t been recorded yet, she shared that she’s already looked at the lyrics. “I get excited just by looking at it. It’s perfect for me, and I hope that people who listen to it will become happy.”
Kasai became AKB48’s 2nd generation member along with Oshima Yuko (24) and Miyazawa Sae (21) back in April of 2006. Following Itano Tomomi (21), Maeda Atsuko (21 = graduated on August 27th), Iwasa Misaki (17), Watanabe Mayu (18), Sashihara Rino (19), Matsui Sakiko (21 = pianist), Kashiwagi Yuki (21 = in preparation), and Takahashi Minami (21 = in preparation), Kasai will become AKB48’s 9th member to debut as a soloist.
Aside from her solo debut live on the 25th, Kasai will also release her 1st solo photo book in late-January. Her CM for JRA will air starting on the 18th.

I think we can safely assume that every mainstream AKB member is gonna get something like this soon? :P
IMHO Kasai's not really one of those powerhouses in the group, but still is in the spotlight. I don't exactly know what's special about her that Aki-P sees unless she has a good solo voice (which I haven't heard).
Excited about what good this push is gonna bring besides more money for Aki-P. :)

yeah, it's my problem too :( :( :(, besides, i'm saving my money to buy her photobook XD XD XD( luckily, she isn't senbatsu in single 29th, so i don't buy it, i can save money for her single)
And the ship cost is my big problem, the ship from Japan to my country is expensive :cry: :cry: :cry:. For example, i want to buy photobook AKB48 24 hours ( i like style's Tomomi-chan in this book), its cost is 1000 yen, but ship cost to my country is > 2000 yen :cry: :cry: :cry: , so i have intermediary buy it and the cost total is cheaper :( :(

They could have given her a debut similar to Ohori Megumi, but they didn't!
- It sounds like... an Acchan song. A standard pop song with some acoustic and electric guitars in the mix. It's the standard formula, which means the song is actually pretty good. More importantly, she should be able to reach a wide audience with it. The downside is that a 'safe' song can never really reach high level of epic (i.e. Momoiro Clover Z - Mugen no Ai). But yeah, as a solid debut it makes sense.

Edit: someone said in another forum that it wasn't a lip-sync so I listened it over and over again, and it's true. I could hear her voice wavering somewhere in the middle, but considering how nervous she was and the weather in Tokyo right now... Major thumbs up to Chiyuu :thumbup

Well, the live event was titled "まさかこのコンサートの出演は逃亡はしないよね?" which translates to something like "Surely, you won't run away from a concert?" Pretty stupid. It's like she has to wear the rock of shame. It doesn't make sense to give her solo debut as punishment, so I believe all the bad stuff they keep saying about Kasai is purely to keep the hype going. Any publicity is good publicity.

Like the previous campaign, 30 members of AKB48 who are over the age of 20 will compete by betting on a horse race. The winner of the previous campaign, Kasai, was “rewarded” not only with a CM, but also a solo live.
After revealing that “Masaka” would be the title of her debut single, Kasai commented, “For me the solo debut was ‘masaka’ (‘unexpected’), so I was really surprised and happy with the title ‘Masaka’.”
She continued, “Until now, I’ve been active as AKB48 while dreaming for a solo debut and I’ve been supported by many fans. This is really a moment when my dream has come true, so I want to work even harder in order to get more people to know about ‘Kasai Tomomi’.”
Kasai sang solo versions of AKB48’s “Heavy Rotation” and “Flying Get“. She will release “Masaka” on December 26th.

Yeah, I have to agree. The song is soft pop-rock like Acchan/Taylor Swift/etc would do.
The PV seems to have some cute outfits, some megane outfits and some typical love story moments.
So why go with those covers?! I don't like it. Haha.
They should have kept the CD covers cute, and just keep all that sexy stuff in the upcoming PB.
That way people will take her more seriously as a solo singer and we can have an epic PB, lol.

Masaka
- Perfect song for Chiyuu, and she looks super great :lol:
Unfortunately, I did not really like the PV. I know it's slower song and is romantic, but I feel they took it too slow with her movements
and the pacing of the PV(the pv was slower than the song imo). The PV doesn't really make sense to me either, I'm getting the impression that
the place they are playing basketball at is the garage right outside of her house(it looks too much like a suburban house to be a cafe). I also find
it strange that there are black and white people(no racial); is it a trend to include people other than Japanese people XD? Also, I thought they did
a good job by not showing the guy's face, but they weren't consistent with it, and they did show it later on. I feel that it would have been better if
they either clearly showed a person, or just keep the person obscured—there's no middleground. All in all, I'm slightly disappointed with the PV,
but it wasn't bad by any means, just not what I expected, I was hoping for a slightly faster paced video.
Anyway, I hope it sells! :lol:

So many conflicting emotions related to this release :panic:
The song
- Having listened to the full version a couple of times now I quite like it. Yes, it's highly similar to something Acchan/T-Swiss etc would do but that's fine. It means a wider audience is likely to enjoy her song (and maybe even buy it or start following her). It's a safe song.
The PV
- I'm glad the glasses came off quite early in the PV. I dig glasses, but not these.
- I think this PV managed to capture her charm quite nicely. The outfits and expressions are all cute/pretty/ero-girly... It's good.
- The sexiest bit related to this release is in this PV from 2:16 - 2:28. That is the kind of sexy Kasai I like.
- The storyline is very simple and pretty stupid tbh. That "12" dude is the one who hit on the other girl and ignored her when she dropped something, right? So why does he get to be the good guy in the end? Or am I missing something? He seems like a douche.
- Someone tell Kasai to use less make-up/lip gloss.
The covers
- Yeah, totally hate them on pretty much any level.
- Especially that 'open shirt' cover does nothing for me. It tries too hard and it doesn't make sense. It's not the style of sexy I want coming from Kasai.
In sum
- Very happy she has a solo debut. It's something only a very small minority of the girls get to do and it's something I never expected would happen. Especially considering how they (HoriPro) overlooked her when it comes to solo releases.
- The song is good. It's safe, but good.
- The PV is fine. Bit simple with some weird moment, but in the end Kasai looks good and I feel it captures her charm nicely.
- The covers are making me not want to buy this. :/

Does this mean the earliest she will graduate is sometime in March after the bus tour? Maybe that means she'll still be around when the group films the 31st single. And perhaps one more bigger AKB48 concert (Tokyo Dome City Hall?) as her farewell.

Ono Erena's solo debut single opened with 9,989 and that's after a long absence. She got a 25,740 weekly.
Kasai had a solo live, various (upcoming) events, TV show appearances, not to mention she's a semi-popular AKB48 member...

Wasamin opened with 7,352 at the time, ending up with 23,773 for the weekly.

Or is it because we're used to seeing akb single sold for million of copies? And at least akb soloist usually sell at 40 - 50k in first week right?
Edit: I hope that it was because of shipping problem. I'm still waiting for my type A to be shipped from CDJapan, and my type B to arrive in a few days.

I'm not expected a big sell here, but, still... isn't it a bit too low?? I'm worried for her now. Hope she won't feeling down because of it. And it'll be bad for her future career if her first solo single can't sell much. :panic:

Ono Erena – Erepyon: 25,740

Itano Tomomi - 10nen go no Kimi e: 72,911
Watanabe Mayu – Hikarumonotachi: 91,907
Based on Kasai's senbatsu ranking it makes sense she's in the gap between Erena and Sasshi. But yeah, I would have figured she'd end up in the 50K area at least. :oops:
Can't complain too much though. Looking at other solo idol artists, a lot of them struggle to break 5K even with daily events.
I do wonder what the effect of the graduation announcement is. Did it help or hurt the sales...

On February 16th, AKB48’s Kasai Tomomi held a release event for her solo debut song, “Masaka“, at Yokohama BLITZ.
This marks Kasai’s first solo event since announcing her graduation from AKB48 in December. She performed a total of 5 songs for 1,000 fans.
While her graduation date is still undecided, she once again declared, “I have decided to press forward on my path as a singer.” She then sang SPEED’s graduation song, “my graduation“.
During the middle of the event, former SDN48 member Ohori Megumi made a surprise guest appearance. She held a public recording of Nippon Broadcasting’s ‘Onee-san ni Kikinasai!‘
Kasai responded to the fans’ warm cheers saying, “I’m able to move forward because of everybody.”
