saw it a mile away but still. :/

Dammit...:(
Question now is...was the decision for her to graduate made before or after they came up with the idea of the band auditions (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=33087.0)? Actually, it's been a while since we've heard any news about that too. :?
-
Geez now I have to go to the grad and I'm poor...guess I'll just fly there and back for the concert ~.~

Yeah, probably.
Come to think of it, when Sayu assumed leadership of the group, they never really officially advertised/promoted that Reina would be sub-leader, did they? Could be that her graduation has been in the works for a while.
-
Yeah I figured the band meant she was gonna graduate because it felt very much like Rika and V-U-Den (and technically Aibon and Nono with W). You know set her up with a group before she leaves so that when she leaves she already is established in a new thing.
-
I also thought that her band was a clear indicator of Reina's imminent graduation. Like you said, it's very much a Rika and v-u-den situation. That said, I'm not sad about this at all. I'm actually kind of excited! Sure, Reina was good to have around to give 9th/10th gens an early role model for their performances, but now it feels like she's been holding them back.
In fact, when all the OG members were like "The group doesn't have enough rivalry now.", I'd say Reina would be a major reason for that. Even though I don't agree with their basic premise, that being as friendly as the members are with each other is a source of weakness, it's true that Reina's default position as one of the main faces of the group effectively locks out any of the other girls from getting a chance in the center. Just her presence effectively kills the potential competition for her spot.
On the flip side, I'm excited to see what Reina and her band are going to do. In particular, I hope that she gets her wish to perform "Saisatsu Butai" from the Stacies musical. Just like with Rika and v-u-den, I expect some awesome things from her new group in the future.
TL;DR:
Reina's holding back the younger members and blocking the center, so it's about time she left. If you liked Rika in v-u-den, be happy Reina will get to do new and different things too.
-
They havent even a bandname yet

I'm not suprised that she will graduate next year, but now I have to save more money for this tour :catglare:
But it was a shock this morning :O

Announcement concerning Reina Tanaka
First of all, thank you for your continued support for Morning Musume。.
Here is an announcement about Reina Tanaka.
Reina Tanaka has been a Morning Musume。 member for 9 years and 10 months since January 2003 and she will graduate from Morning Musume。 as well as from Hello! Project after the final live of the “Morning Musume。Concert Tour 2013 Spring Michishige☆Eleven SOUL ~Tanaka Reina Special Commemoration Graduation”.
We can easily say that she is one of the top three voices in the history of Morning Musume。and she will now be part of a band.
I thought it was a good timing for her to graduate since she will now continue her activities in this band.
Now that Reina became an adult, knowing better what she wants to do, her style, I think she can use her experience from Hello! Project for the band and her solo works.
Some years ago I have discussed with her about how the things will become after her graduation, and I am sure her competitive spirit will help her become an even more cool "Reina".
Everybody, please support "Reina Tanaka" as solo and also "Reina Tanaka" as the member of the band.

Reina Tanaka Official Comment
First thank you for your continued support.
It has been decided that, I, Reina Tanaka, will graduate from Morning Musume。、as well as from Hello! Project at the end of next spring’s tour!
I have announced my graduation today on the stage in front of the fans and I introduced as well the 3 members of the band, I will now take off to a new stage!
I have been a 6th generation member of Morning Musume。 for almost 10 years and this year the group is celebrating its 15th anniversary. I think this is a turning point, a challenge for me to try another music activity, with the start of this band.
There is around 6 months left until I will be a Morning Musume。 member, with the January Hello! Project lives in January and the next tour.
So please support the Reina Tanaka's member of Morning Musume。 which will sing in front of you and for my following activities as well!

Knew this day was coming, but still sad to think Reina will be graduating.
Am looking forward to seeing her in a live band setting.

Mixed feelings about this, a combo of "Graduation? NOOOO" and "It's about damn time" sentiments. :P But yeah, I'm shocked and not shocked at the same time: shocked because graduation announcements are always jarring and it's always sad to see someone leave the group...not shocked because I've been mentally preparing for this ever since Gaki left, with the new band and new haircut fuelling that preparation.
Nothing but respect for her and this decision. She's come a long way from being that dyed-haired girl who wanted to be a star so badly that she lied about her age to get a head start on joining the group, and almost got away with it too. After just about a decade of being co-lead and being at the forefront of representing the group, there really isn't much left for her to accomplish with Momusu other than a leadership role, which she seems a lot less suited for compared to Sayu (whose graduation would be a lot more devastating right now). And with all these new members popping up recently and becoming increasingly ready to carry the Morning Musume name on their own, it's only fitting that their long-time ace finally give them that room to breathe and grow.
田中さん、本当にありがとう!
And this sums up my feelings about certain possible reactions to this news:
[22:42] <+DJ-AN0N> i dunno, i'd be pretty excited about a 6thgen-less mm, kind of a mental reboot
[22:42] <+Slack> I'm kinda excited about it tbh
[22:43] <+Slack> I'm kinda looking forward to seeing some of the older, more cynical fans leave lol
Yeah, Reina and her genuine fans will be missed, drama queens constantly declaring H!P "dead" won't. :P
-
Reading the official statements, it seems unreal that she's been in MM for almost 10 years. To me it still feels like 6th gen joined "recently" XD How time has flown by~
I'm not shocked at all by this graduation announcement. Guess I've finally been cured of that XD Momusu feels like a brand new group to me at this point, so Reina or Sayumi leaving won't surprise me.
Good luck and a prosperous future to her and her band!
-
Sad news. But on the other hand, I'm glad girls like her, Sayu, Ai-chan and Gaki stayed so long to help build this new-gen. They're all important members that have contributed a lot to the group. Anything that they've rubbed off on the new-gen from their experience will be gold.
I'm just a little surprised Sayu would be the last one standing. ...Honestly, Sayu has improved a lot though. :thumbup
It'll be pretty hard for me to get enough cash to catch the grad concerts, but crazier things have happened. I don't have my hopes up though...
Reina leaving really was a must for them to grow. She's just too strong a chara, and the group has relied on her as main vocal for such a long time.
I've been checking DVD magazines in the past few weeks, and the 9-10th gen girls really are an interesting and talented bunch. I still can't pick a favourite from them. But it'll be interesting to set them wild and seeing how this bunch turn out.
It's great to hear Reina's band-gig will actually happen.
It'll be a different Reina but I'll still support her. The band girls all look so much taller than her~~ :sweatdrop:
In the end, there really isn't much else to say. Just: "Thank You Reina!"
-
Random thoughts:
- No big surprise. It totally makes sense and hopefully it'll open up some room for the new girls to shine.
- Still sorta sad because she's become one of the top members in MM's history.
- Glad she can instantly move on with a new project. Definitely excited about the band.
- Happy I got to see her perform once in my life
-
Congrats Reina! You have worked hard >___< ...Ooop I should only say that on her graduation day... Anyway, no matter how predictable it is, it's never a good way to start the day with a graduation announcement o-o
-
I've seen this coming for a while, but still the news pulled at my heart, being a Reina fan. She's worked very hard, and I hope she continues to succeed outside Morning Musume.
I love you, Reina!
-
yeah we all knew the graduation was coming but i didn't know that she was gonna totally leave h!p as well :O2 6th gen has always been dearest to me  i know she'll do well in the future... :pleeease:

XD

^ LOL awww I like how all the members were totally chill during the announcement. They must have discussed it long beforehand. This also explains why on the 9th gen blog, both Zukki and Fukuchan were talking about how 9th gen had a phone conference about the future of Momusu just the other day XD that they as the next most senior members after the Rokkies had to step up their game to lead...I guess that was a sign already lol.
I'm happy for Reina that she is going to get to do what she likes. I hope she'll grow more as a musician and singer, and I'll be happy to support her in her band activities too! Ganbareina!
-
I knew it was going to happen. :( She's been a very long-serving member. I immediately think of her when I think of Morning Musume.
 AHUHUHUHUHU!
-
Now that I think about it this makes me more worried about Sayu than Reina. I think this is a great opportunity for Reina and one that was probably long in coming. However this does mean that Sayu looses her support system and anyone that she can consider an equal. The next closet are the 9th gen and there is a very obvious Sempai/Kouhai gap going. I just hope she doesn't keep everything to herself and get too stressed out like she did a couple of years ago.

MM will be bad joke without Reina.
I think I know ten people who have already proven that statement to be false. ;)

MM will be bad joke without Reina.
oooh. predictions!
Continuing with H!P tradition, Reina is going to marry one of the band members...
wait... :panic:
-
I think I know ten people who have already proven that statement to be false. ;)
In spring 2013 nine of ten people will be members of MM only one or two years.
Person has to be member of MM at least five years in most cases to have chance to become valuable member according to my criteria.
-
Person has to be member of MM at least five years in most cases to have chance to become valuable member according to my criteria.
Five years to have a CHANCE at becoming a valuable member?! A lot of idol careers don't even last five years.
That's like saying girls like Sayashi and Fukuchan don't add any value to the group? That's just ridiculous.
Not sure what your criteria are (feel free to elaborate on that), but I think they're more suited for an Olympic gymnast team than an idol group.
-

Maybe you should try this fandom called Kpop. Plenty of girls there who train for 5-7 years before debuting. As a Jpop idol, you're lucky to even last five years.
Seriously, I have no idea what some people are even doing in the JPOP IDOL FANDOM with this kind of criteria. If you want to watch people who are already polished performers, try something else instead of wasting everyone's time by complaining how this JPOP IDOL isn't good enough for your standards. It's like buying a Nintendo DS and then complaining that it can't play PSP games. If you wanted to play PSP games, maybe you should've bought a PSP instead.
Also, hadn't most members in MM in years 2000-2001 only been around for 2 years or less? And wasn't that period considered the Golden Era (or at least the beginning of it)? Defining any kind of time period after which someone becomes 'valuable' is useless. Members will step up when they need to, they always have. I'm even more surprised when older fans don't realize this when it has happened over and over and over again. Like how blind do you have to be to not see it.
-

Five years is average. Some members become valuable soon, some never.
Valuable member (for me) has to meet at least one of these criteria:
1. sexy/cute adult (age >= 18 in my country)
2. good singer
Maybe you should try this fandom called Kpop
kinda like SNSD, but it isn't so impressive as MM was until 2010.
-
^I think then it's just unfortunate for you then that the new gens joined that young. But then again the average age of new joinees starting from 3rd gen (Goto Maki was a wee 13 year old when she started!) has been around early teens, and it just so happened that there has been a rush of graduations for the older members in the past two years, so the average age has just plunged without the constant renewal we were seeing from 4th to 6th gens (where it was like an audition almost every year, or every other year). That period of stability under Ai's reign as leader had a hidden cost: no new girls starting at the usual average age = average age of group dropping like a rock when the older members start leaving by the time they decide to add new people. For your first criteria....we do have sexy and cute girls (*coughFukuchancough*), but well....she's just only 16. Which doesn't bother me, because I can admire someone's looks without it going R-rated all the time. Personally, I'm quite entertained by watching this crop of girls grow up....it's kind of fun to watch. They're like my favorite nieces or something like that  But that's me, and I respect that you might want to be looking at more mature girls. I admit that I use AKB48 for this purpose nowadays
As for criteria no.2....excuse me while I go laugh my guts out. Good singers. Idol music. BAHAHAHAHA. Sorry. Good singers in idol music is the exception rather than the rule. XD Granted, I have a bias for good singers (I love you Aichan :D) and my favorites do tend to give excellent live performances, so I get where you're coming from, but I have come to realize that as long as they do not murder my eardrums, my standards for acceptable idol music are really low. What would offend me coming from serious artistes would not offend me as much coming from idols. Music, while important, is but one part of being a good idol -- for reference, please see Sayu; the girl can't sing that well, but she is a good idol. What they really do is sell an image, which packs in personality, looks, whatever quirky behaviour that might appeal to fans, and anything that is remotely marketable can and will be exploited. If the girls (and their managers!) know what they're doing anyway. It's a cult of personality, idol-dom. With less people dying, obviously. :P
Anyway, to conclude the rant...I suppose the use of the word "valuable" would rile up any fan. Let's call it controversial word choice and forget about it.
To bring it back on topic...
So guys, we have the preliminary tour dates up, how many more do you think they'll tack on?
-
One last thing about the five year criteria--- Tsunku has this covered.....
Switch to Berryz Kobo and C-ute (7+ years for all the members) to get your fill of experienced members (and I am a big fan of all the Hello! Kids, who are now Hello, Hello Pretty Women!) and then check back in on Morning Musume now and then, you might be surprised how good these one and two years members are.............
I can remember well all the frigging doom and gloomers moaning and whinging about how Morning Musume was finished when the original girls were stepping down, and all the bitching about the fifth and sixth gen members..............Yet Ai Takahashi and Miki Fujimoto, ably backed by Risa Niigata (and everyone else) was, in my opinion, the best vocal combination the group ever had.
And yes, watching the girls growing and getting better is a big part of idol music, it's fun! And Rena will be working as well with her new band, so lots of good times ahead, guaranteed.............and you can take that to the bank......... :cow:
-
Good singers in idol music is the exception rather than the rule.
for reference, please see Sayu; the girl can't sing that well, but she is a good idol.
When I said good singer I meant good singer, not excellent singer. Reina is also good singer.
I said they have to meet at least one criterion, not both. Sayu is sexy/cute adult.

Sayu has also been in the group for 10 years. Probably not the best example in this case. XD
Morning Musume will survive until Tsunku gives up on them. If anything, their survival hinges more on Tsunku than on the roster of girls in the group. We all have our favorites and preferred types, but the girls come and go, and only Tsunku remains. I love Reina and am happy to see her embark on a new career outside of the group -- she certainly deserves something to call her own by now, after working towards it in 10 years as an idol. I admit, I like the new girls because they're all quirky and funny and even if some of them are complete brats (Duu and Riho, lol), I still like them and look forward to watching them in coming years. To me, that's a big draw of Morning Musume: you get to see a variety of different girls do their thing, and you can laugh with them (or at them XD), cry with them, and generally have fun. I'm not an eternal optimist in life....quite the reverse actually. But when it comes to idols, they allow me to escape to a happy place for a short time. Which is why I can be optimistic about them and ignore all the doom-and-gloomers. It's too much work to hate on something, or to predict that THIS IS THE END. Real life gets me down often enough without my fandom doing the same to me
And this reminds me why I generally try not to interact with the majority of fandom. So tired of disputes over something that should essentially be enjoyed.

Same here. ;)
Morning Musume will be fine. :)

Whenever I see someone underestimating the 9th and 10th generations, I always have to laugh to myself a bit. If you're paying attention to what they do and how they perform, I feel it's impossible to come to the conclusion that Morning Musume has no future. The fans who come to the conclusion that there's no value in the newer girls are the ones who weren't ever going to give them a chance in the first place. These are the fans that have an expiration date, and their complaints about how the future is going to suck is the smell that lets you know that they're getting close to that date. Since they're pretty much determined not to be fans much longer, there's really no point in listening to or even directly responding to their negativity. Let them live with their lack of patience, imagination, and excitement about the future. It's their loss.
I'm personally more than glad to see Reina go for many reasons. As someone who believes in the younger generations' potential and can't wait to see what they'll do next, it's hard for me to see her graduation as anything but a positive change. After putting in so many years, it feels like there's nowhere left for Reina to grow as a performer in Morning Musume. Unlike Sayumi, whose particular skills and experience in self-promotion are of obvious continuing value to the growth of the younger girls, it's hard for me to see how much Reina's continued presence in the group can have similar benefits. In the meantime, she's taking up that prized center slot that any of the younger girls could be benefiting from and furthering the popularity of the group with.
TL;DR version:
Fans who can't see the younger girls' value and potential are the ones who haven't even looked for it and are unlikely to start. They're likely not going to be fans much longer and their negativity and opinions just shouldn't matter to long-term fans.
Reina's gotten just about all she's going to get out of being in Morning Musume, and the younger girls have gotten just about all they're going to get out of Reina's presence. Reina deserves the chance to continue growing as a performer and the younger girls deserve a chance to be in the spotlight.
-
Personally I started to pay sporadical attention to MM again since 9th gen joined, and 10th gen had me completely hooked. Those girls are awesome.
And with Sakura's great voice they're going to have me on the wagon for a loooooong time :)

Reina: (Blue Panther patterned outfits)
I joined Morning Musume at the age of 13.
As I was called a bad girl, I thought everyone was my enemy at the time.
When I became a member of Otome Gumi, I got my fans.
I decided that I'd work hard only for them.
I should deliver dream, hope. Howver, I make a lot of people worried. Example for, I gave up to update my blog so many times.
I'd like to say sorry for you once.
I'm sorry.
I'll make some troubles some times from now on too.
Can you keep supporting me from now too?
--
Oda: Congratulations for your graduation.
Tanka-san's performance stimulated me.
From Reina: I like the scene Oda retook a pic of an Ice cream so many times.
--
Kudo; I'll cheer for Lovender tool
From Reina: You always buy Reina's goods. but If you ask me, I'll present them by free.
--
Sato: ( She smiled happily )
Reina: Are you grad I'll go away from you?
Sato: It's because I have decided I'll never cry.
I have a lot of things to apologize to Tanasatan.
But It will take me for six hours to tell all. So I don't say about them.
From Reina: I received a text message yesterday "Tanaka, Please postpone your graduation". But there were a lot of mis-writing. So I couldn't understand well"
Lastly Sato Massaki hugged Reina, then, she start crying and couldn't stop the tears.
--
Ishida: When I was scolded in my first shooting.
I was scared so much.but I learned "Greeting is really important in showbiz".
From Reina: your private outfits is not cool. So I'll choose your outfits someday.
--
Iikubo: I'love your character as well as your great charisma.
I'd like to go to a museum together.
From Reina: I don't want to go a museum.
I was glad that you talked me your private time, when we became alone.
--
Suzuki: Tanaka-san gave me an advice around one year after we joined. "Suzuki should listen to the sounds around you more carefully when you sing the part which all members sing"
Owing to your advice, I came to like singing more.
From Reina:
It's good for you to be able to sing loudly.
I like you because you are enjoying live.
--
Sayashi: We will make awesome Morning Musueme from now!
From Reina: I don't say details but I have sung with Sayashi so many times. Actually I have noticed "you change the way of singing" "You seemed to practice so many times."
But.. Above all I like your dance. you have sharp movements on dance. I like to see your dance.
Please do your best for your dance!
--
Reina:( Ikuta's bangs are curled) You looks like a middle age woman. XD
Ikuta: I'll work harder and get all of Tanaka-san's singing parts.
Reina: XD It's impossible XDD
Ikuta: I'll work harder to get a little singing part.
Reina: Please keep being teased by Sayu
--
Fukumura:
Reina: you have a sexy body and look so mature for your age.
And good breeding! But I gazed you seriously. you are a common student girl.

Sayu; Reina Congratulations!
Reina: A lot of flowers!
Sayu: You are more beautiful than the flowers. XD
Reina can sing well. I can't do it.
Reina: Certainly! XD
Sayu; Well the comments were only for media. XD
I say frankly from now.
To tell the truth, Reina's graduation is a heavy blow.
Nobody in my same period is in Morning Musume.
I'll not be able to complain to anybody.
What to do?
I was happy because Reinas said "Six-gen is best!".
From Reina.
Recently we can complain a lot together.
But it's a miracle.
When we became members of Morning musume, To tell the truth, I don't like SAyu.
We haven't mind each other.
But In the shooting of SuugakuJyoshi Gakuen, we became friendly.

The last, final time...

My guess on why Reina wants the concert to close with Shabondama & other upbeat-er numbers, the Musumes were already so distraught, Tomo and/or Namidacchi would just flood the Budokan

Wow, the videos from Oricon were made private fast. I was able to watch only the first part, which included Maachan's message.
Here's my attempt at a detailed translation:
[spoiler]
[Maachan steps forward with a big smile]
R: Cry already! ahaha
M: I already decided not to cry.
R: You're so smiley! You must be happy!
M: You're wrong!!
R: I was expecting you to cry the most saying "Tanasata~n".
M: It's because I decided not to cry.
R: You've become stronger, ne.
M: Tanasatan is..... hai hai. I'll do my speech.
R: The flower please. ahaha
M: Ah! Tanasatan, congratulations on your graduation.
[hands over the flower to Reina]
R: Thank you.
M: There are many things I want to talk to Tanasatan about, and things I have to apologize for. During times when my stomach hurts (note: maybe she means due to nervousness), when I asked "Please play with me", Tanasatan said "Ok/Sure", so we normally play together even while my stomach hurts. But, even if I have many things I want to talk to Tanasatan about, and apologize for, if I say it all, it'll take 6 hours.
R: aha, that's long!
M: So I wrote you a letter. Later, I'll give it to you.
R: oh, really?
M: Please read it.
R: I understand.
M: Hai.
R: Satou, I have one thing to say. Last night, Satou sent me email that was like "Couldn't you postpone your graduation?". I thought it was cute, but the characters were so wrong I didn't understand it.
[Reina explains the wrong parts]
R: Please correct and improve your characters in your next email to me.
M: hai! Tanasatan, really thank you very much! Ahh~
[Maachan runs to hug Reina and starts crying loudly].
R: You tried your best.
M: hai
