It's called "Mirai Shoujo Audition". Tsunku just popped up at the MC for the first day of the Michishige Eleven Soul concert tour. Hurhurhur. XD

some personal thoughts: Lol I totally called it (see the Gossip thread. :lol: ). Have the feeling that the ones who will be picked will be more on basis of their character rather than actual singing/dancing ability (of course, they will have to make the baseline at least). Expecting about 1-3. A full 4-member generation would swell their numbers to way too much and what in the world are they going to give them for member colours???? :lol: (of course, a wota like me would think of things like that XD)

From the glimpses of the MC corners from the concert, the general sentiment among the wota there was that Tsunku did not mention having to find someone who is a strong singer/dancer. If anything, he seems more concerned about the "character" of the future 12th gen member(s). I believe he wants someone interesting, and the theme for the audition being "mirai shoujo", he probably is more interested in slowly training the performance aspect to eventually take the lead for after the current centers leave...Tsunku's thinking long range, not like an "instant return", as he mentioned.
Let's look at it objectively. Putting aside whatever we think about the current lineup, Tsunku seems to satisfied with having one Suppin Utahime (Sakura), one ace (Riho), and from his notes on the 53rd single, he appears to be pushing Fukuchan, Ayumi, and Maachan to be the next vocal backbone of the group. We might disagree with him and want more talented people who can sing and dance -- or even pushing the current members who can perform but are relegated to the back line (*cough* Duu), but Tsunku is also thinking of the variety aspect, which will be SORELY lacking once Sayu inevitably leaves. Harunan and Eripon have potential, but their appeal is a bit narrow and Tsunku probably wants a couple more spitfires to add variety to the TV presence. MM right now is undergoing major restructuring, and as the producer he has a vision for them...we're just fans, what do we know. :lol:
We've seen Tsunku pass up on more obvious talents in some auditions previously, but I've come to realize that Tsunku isn't out to create a super performance powerhouse (Platinum Era notwithstanding, but he got lucky with the fact that he got a good crop to work with). Morning Musume is his pet project, and they appear to be HIS vision of what he wants in an idol group. It's like he does it to suit his own sensibilities, and if it makes money, great. I think that as long as it breaks even and sticks to his vision for the group, he would be satisfied. Tsunku's a bit weird. XD Yes, he wants the group to do well because well, pride and all plus money does talk. But I don't think he compromises TOO much over his ideal for the group. Even if a super performer with godlike ability in singing and dancing and looks like a freaking goddess suddenly auditions for the group, unless she fits his conception of "Morning Musume", he'd turn her away. XD
I also have this feeling that Tsunku's got his eye on a couple of the Eggs...um, I mean Kenshuusei >_> The extremely short application period means that he probably has an idea of who he wants already, but it's really a matter of them applying (the Kenshuusei I mean), plus you never know if you get surprises from out of the idol system. Raw talent seems hard to find nowadays. >_> I fully expect to be completely surprised by his choices, probably end up bitching about stuff like "BUT SO AND SO CAN SING BETTER THAN WHO YOU LET IN WHYYYYYY", or "What were you thinking, Tsunku????", and grump about a lot until I finally get won over by his choices because for some reason, the MM effect is such that I eventually get to like them. Though I never got to like Koharu until after she left... :lol:
But yes! Auditions! I hope he doesn't troll us like with 11th gen again. I mean, I like Sakura but STILL. Let us have a proper audition process! I felt so cheated out of the opportunity to whine and speculate over the finalists! :lol:

I think I cracked up when he started flapping his arms like for the Help Me choreography. Riho next to him went kind of LOL too. Tsunku's sense of humour is awesome. XD
Sayu's comment: "Right now when I say I'm the cutest member of Morning Musume, it's the truth and there's no disputing it. I want a 12th gen girl who is so cute that when I say that I'm the cutest, it will sound like a joke because she is there."

i loved zukki's and riho's reactiosn the most, i mean if u look, you see kanon almost run up the stairs but then come back down XD and then riho's is like 20z calmer than the 1st time XD
it'd be cool to see a girl try and "battle" over who's the ichiban kawaii member with sayu...as long as it doesnt get old ^^;

I'd love to see that girl as a 12th gen member (she's better than Sakura :3 ) even if I think that it's a bit too early for the audition... I mean they didn't even found a correct haircut for Sakura and there's too much member... I feel like they should train the girl we already have before adding some new one... Morning Musume isn't getting better... (They're not gettin' worse tho). Tsunku loves audition but it's not a reason to do audition every years...

YES! Put in Cuca and that amazing girl from the YT link and be done with it already! MM needs an amazing singer, not a good singer like Sakura but an amazing singer like Ai Kago at her audition, or Takahashi Ai, Goto Maki, etc. someone that wows.
I am not happy with the idea of yet another new face but whatevs, Tsunku does what Tsunku wants and he loves to just troll the girls and wotas.
But one thing, we DID have a bunch of great singers in MM, that was the Platinum Era...Ai, Gaki, Reina, LinLin and although Tsunku had some fun with that it didn't help their popularity. But he did say he doesn't want to just do a quick sell (half-expected him to do a *coughcoughAKBhackcough*) so maybe we will head back to that with the Colorful Era but they will have some sales to back it up this time because people notice them now.

Well chatting with Slack in irc reminded me of the fact that there are trainees to be considered again for 12th gen, lol
So I compiled a list with Juice = Juice removed, and also the two girls that I believe to have left... Ending up with this:

Of course, many of them are familiar from previous auditions.
My favs (ignoring MM's needs, and merely declaring my bias) would be Ricchan, Murotan and Kurumin:
Ricchan has just always given me a d'aww vibe even if she doesn't have the "traditionally" cute looks. She makes me giggle and her expressions sometimes would make great gifs. lol Also she has been around for a long time and has a really cute voice.
Murotan has a great, bold, outgoing personality. My only worry is that Tsunku would consider her a "quick profit", or whatever it was he said. :lol:
Kurumin also can be quite expressive and out there, I remember her shamelessly fangirling in front of Koharu and Keichan.
Aside from them, the newest crop of Eggs, to me, are reaaaaally cute and pretty. >_< (Referring to the bottom row + Icchan) Maybe there's a dark horse in there.

Well, I think its still too early for an audition. Sakura just had her first single and im not used to her yet. But since reinas graduating, I guess an audition is a good idea. Mizuki still needs more experience before sayu eventually graduates, and this audition may be signs that sayu's time is near.

Tsunku: The members, I'm sure are thinking since Reina-san graduated the next one to go is Michishige-san. But that's not the only option there is. It's not for sure it'll happen in order like that. And because of that the other members probably are feeling too comfortable that "there are still senpai here so I'm fine". If I find someone slacking off, they might just have to go. So I want them to keep that in mind. (Reporter: Is there someone who's slacking off right now?) Right now... There might be a lot of them. (Reporter: Their faces...) Yeah I'm sure they suddenly got nervous, yeah. I'm not joking. You have Juice=Juice under you too [to put pressure on your performance].

Tsunku's been trolling the girls since forever too. I mean, turning MM into a rotational group from the 1st gen onwards? :lol:
For a more recent example, the fact that he added 10th gen right after 9th, and that every single one of 10th gen has a counterpart in 9th (Riho vs Ayumi dance, Fukuchan and Duu as former Eggs, Eripon and Harunan former models, Maachan and Zukki the ones with no showbiz experience whatsoever)...he basically added direct rivals for 9th gen. :lol: That troll. Not to mention then he trolls everyone again with 11th gen's Suppin Utahime auditions -- basically him telling the girls that HA YOU CHILDREN CAN'T SING. Talk about insult to injury. XD Which also led to Riho admitting in newspaper interview that everyone's been busy taking voice training lessons in the battle for Reina's lines after her grad... XD
Tsunku is a troll, and a master of his art. :P I'm just looking forward to see what kind of drama happens in 12th gen auditions now teehee.

Yeah, count me in as another person who thinks this audition is too soon. I also still feel uncomfortable with the lower age limit being that low. HOWEVER, if history is any indicator, this audition is still something to look forward to, because you really never know what's gonna happen and what management really has planned. With the Morning Musume name having lasted as long as it has, Tsunku must be doing something right.

P.S. I don't think Berryz or C-ute will be getting any new members. I'm just hoping neither group goes away any time soon; all these new, young girls need some veteran presence to guide them and keep things balanced out.

My 2 concerns with regards to the 12th gen audition:
1)Because Tsunku has founded his talented replacement for Reina in the from of Sakura, I fear this round UpFront Co. will seek girls that are purely in the J-Idol sense, types like Konno, Sayumi, Koharu, ikubo, & many members of AKB48 not named Mayu, Takahashi Minami, Masuda Yuka, or Kashiwagi i.e. dance/singing skills this time will really take the backseat
2) So what if by miracle we do get talented and/or skilled 12th gen-ers? The 15-16 year-old formula dictates that 2 Musumes will be in front hogging the camera & singing the lines, while the rest serve as supporting chorus vocals, dancing at the rear. It has always been like this since the days of Abe & Asuka. Occasionally another Musume gets 1-2 solo or chorus lines to her own, like Koharu & Mizuki. In other words, will we get to hear the 12 gen-ers, or will they be hidden so far back, we'll see Haruna's & Suzuki's shadows before seeing them?

Anyone remember the days of having the whole thing televised (as opposed to tiny bits and pieces) so we didn't have all this anticipation? Cause I kinda just want to know who it's going to be at this point.

Tsunku declares today that there are no qualified candidates for the 12th gen audition “Mirai Shoujo”. Based on the theme and name “Mirai Shoujo” (girl of the future) Tsunku was looking for a super star to add to the group. However, the performance level of Morning Musume is so high right now that he does not feel it would be appropriate to add anyone into the group at this time. Tsunku also will not be adding anyone from H!P kenshuusei at this time. He does not feel comfortable inserting a new girl into this current lineup. However, that does not mean that the talent and skill level of this group of girls were low. To the contrary, Tsunku feels that he saw many girls who were able to shine throughout the audition. He believes they have plenty of talent, but it just quite isn’t enough to join the group.
He adds that had these girls auditioned at the same time as the 9th gen audition, he would have let them in the group. He feels there are a lot of girls with potential. He does not mean any disrespect toward 9th gen with this statement. He states that since 9th gen joined, they have improved to the point where the current Morning Musume is at the highest level of skill in all of MM history.
Tsunku believes that the potential candidates from this past audition are like raw diamond ores. He is very excited to see what will come of proper refinement. As such, he has invited all of the girls he saw potential in to join H!P kenshuusei to gain more experience. He hopes to unveil them when the proper timing comes along.
In regards to 12th gen audition, he plans to hold another audition again. Essentially re-do 12th gen audition, it will not be considered 13th gen. He also states that he has a lot of things on his mind for the future of H!P – including a new group which could potentially be filled with the girls from this audition. Tsunku has a very positive outlook on everything and hopes you guys will look forward to whats coming next.

MMmmmm just what I thought...
Even that girl who was from the same performance thing as Riho, even if her voice was good and dancing looked powerful too, her expression wasn't that good - so it seems that even the best candidates had some flaw that made them not quite good enough. I'll be interested in seeing which ones will make the kenshuusei, and then possibly a new group one day. o/
It seems like UF* isn't messing around right now when it comes to MM, but I guess when 12th gen is chosen we'll find out for sure!

Tsunku is indeed a goddam genius, he must've seen what I saw in MM's latest Music Station performance: a well-rounded group with great dynamics and a growing popularity. A new girl should've been like the new Goto Maki(*) to add something valuable to the group

I have to admit I'm a bit wary about the "highest level of skill" thing because I think Platinum Era Momusu also had a very high level of skill - it's just that they lacked promo, fresh members, they weren't focusing on a certain type of choreography and maybe the songs weren't as 'mainstream friendly'... Purely skill-wise I don't really doubt Platinum Era's abilities to pull off what the current MM is doing. Things were dumbed down a bit when 9th gen joined (Maji de suka ska) and 10th gen (Pyoko Pyoko Ultra), but both generations had to get pretty serious pretty fast, largely trained by the members remaining from the Platinum Era that had grown into complete professionals by then and were able to demand the newbies to rise to their level, and beyond... The newbies have done an amazing job improving their dancing and other performance skills, but if you noticed, senior members Aichan, Gakisan, Reina and Sayumin had evidently no trouble adapting to this new style despite the fact that back when they joined, MM was a completely different unit that it is today. That imo speaks volumes of how MM has been pretty badass for a while so that the 5kis and 6kis could develop into performers who could effortlessly switch from one style to the next, and just didn't have a chance to show it to Japan as a whole. There's this strange gap between Golden Era and today's Morning Musume despite the fact that important progress happened in between, again in my opinion.
Shortly put, I don't want to undermine older Momusu by praising the current Momusu! It does feel good to hear any and all praise, but the group has had a high level for a while and in part it's the leadership of the older members that lead the group as a whole here (of course I know there are dance teachers and other staff, but the ones constantly offering advice are the senpais). It feels funny that the public idea seems to be that Momusu was really awesome at first, then got really lame, and now is getting awesome again skill-wise, when I think it's more like... Momusu started as a vocal group with little focus on dancing, then vocals became a little less important, fun dances were added and they exploded in popularity; then the promotions started dropping, but slowly there started being more focus on skills which I think culminated in the Platinum Era that could both dance and sing well; now promo is rising again with the group having really high skill in dancing, so the level of promo+skill are finally meeting again.
Uhhhuuu in a way MM has always had high skill, but the areas of the high skill have shifted, perhaps from vocal -> entertainment -> (underrated) pop artist -> dancing. It feels awesome to see the current MM get praised, but at the same time it's bittersweet because I think already members like Eri Kamei would've deserved it :lol:

^ The problem with the Platinum era Momusu was, I think, poor management decisions. If I'm not mistaken there was a huge change in UF's big wigs' chairs some years ago, a change that has taken a while to consolidate at all levels (big companies tend to be slow in that sense). So I think that this new business point of view has finally paid off: better promotions (get back to the Shibuya posters and TV ads) a great social media strategy, a change in the choreography team, even the MVs have been evolving gradually and the CD covers keep being quite a hit or miss matter but they've been getting good at it too.
In short, it's the management that has learned to read the new tendencies and to make good use of the new media conventions (just compare the HUGE amount of material released on youtube by UF, even super-old MVs, to the scarce material - if any - allowed by AKB48's agency).
That said, perhaps because of their age, these new generations are better atuned to the kind of dynamics that are required now. I don't know if the addition of a new girl would either hinder or help the group at this stage but they might not want to take unnecesary risks.

As much as I love Sakura's voice (and I really, really love it :wub: ) she isn't as well rounded as Maki was. Riho... well, ambition and a crowd of devoted wotas isn't enough either :P

Qualifying my initial reaction...
I didn't watch any of the footage so I don't even know how they were. But reading through other people's reactions, some of the girls seem talented. My fear there was that they've somewhat discovered these girls and they're free for the taking for other management agencies and girl groups and that they might have turned off some of the auditioning girls with this move. Now we can argue that if they're that easily picked up by other agencies or they start hating on Tsunku maybe they're not meant for the greatness that is Morning Musume.
And I would concede to that argument...
The last nashi audition just didn't leave a good taste in the mouth although this feels different from that audition.
I do agree that Morning Musume is in a good place and adding a new girl might set their balance off. I don't know anything about the internal workings of the company but I think from how they've been doing things with 今のモーニング娘。it appears that they're very confident with the girls now and they think that the time is right to put the group back in its rightful place as the National Idol Group (not that they were ever really dethroned)
On Platinum Era, they're like the real indies phase of Morning Musume where they were uber talented and really passionate about what they do and money wasn't a thing. It's a shame that management let that happen to them. Just looking at pictures of all the billboards they had put up in promotion of WaKiAinoJ/AinoG I sometimes wonder how differently things could have turned out with Platinum Era had they been promoted properly.
anyway, I agree with shirenu, the point is MORNING MUSUME FOREVER
