I guess I should have created this topic sooner because I love Dark Souls. Probably one of the best games I've ever played, both the main game and the hard as nails DLC. I love the fact that it doesn't tell you much and leaves you to understand the game mechanics by yourself and to explore the seamless open world by yourself. There is always that sense of isolation, that fear of the unknown around every corner but with it comes the possibility of seeing something new, the challenge which you must overcome and possibly finding something that will benefit you in some way in the long run. I fully and truly embrace and cherish everything this game stands for, what it represents and I'll defend it to the earth. Is it perfect? No, the framerate can be horrible in areas, the online PvP is really laggy and sometimes the inventory management is a pain (e.g. when giving items to strengthen your bond with your covenant, you have to give them one at a time rather than pick a number and be done with it) but they are very minor things that do not take away anything from the actual quality of the game. I am hoping Dark Souls 2 retains the challenge of this while improving on those things.
A funny moment captured from Dark Souls, do not mess with Tarkus.
Tarkus - He is better at this game than you. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbHtRggFsNA#ws)

The best thing about dark souls is the lore and the open world imo. when i first played it i had no idea what the game was about and how much of an asshole you( the character ) was. After i finished the game i decided to finally look up dark souls and man was the lore interesting. you can not understand the lore just by playing the game. you have to go through each item, talk to each person to figure our the lore but sadly most of the lore is speculation. hopefully dark souls 2 answer some of the speculations and keep true to its nature. But i heard that dark souls 2 is going to be easier and not as challenging as dark souls.
-
^ Well strictly speaking that is not true, they said they would go some ways to make it more 'accessible' which people have conjected to mean as making it easier, using the fact that there is a new producer working on the sequel, with Miyazaki taking a backstage role. But, that is not to say they'll make it easier, in fact the producer has gone out of his way since to reaffirm that one of the core qualities to Dark Souls is the challenge and difficulty and he's not looking to change that. By more accessible I would guess he's maybe talking about making certain game mechanics more obvious. You know yourself playing Dark Souls for the first time, you have no idea what terms like 'Humanity' or 'Reverse Hollowing' even means and it's never explained to you, so stuff like that could be explained better. Or even stuff with the Covenants, it would be nice to know in advance what I am going to get by giving away 50 humanities to a covenant leader just as a heads up before I commit. Maybe even the story telling as well, telling a direct story in the world while retaining some of the mystery? Heck even the multiplayer, why not throw in the option for co-op in there to help out other players? No doubt those of us here would gladly play that.
I think many fans would agree that stuff like the above could be handled better and that it would only go to help make a great game even better. Personally I am not worried. The Artorias of the Abyss DLC shows that From Software has a commitment to really challenge players and to challenge them in such a way that it rewards as much as it infuriates.
Still one of the best videos about Dark Souls, never fails to make me laugh

I gotta throw my hat in the Dark Souls love circle. There are some improvements that can to be made in the next game, especially on the technical end (how the hell did they think Blighttown was acceptable?) but the core formula is so compelling that stuff like that is forgotten in the long run.
This video I saw the other day got me laughing pretty good. XD "Why are you doing this?" New players are so cute. :3

Not sure if those outside the UK can watch it but IGN have a 12 minute interview with the game director and with all new gameplay footage! (http://uk.ign.com/videos/2013/04/10/dark-souls-2-gameplay-reveal-12-minute-demo). I'll tell you now, it looks like a Dark Souls game alright. It looks gorgeous and looks to retain all the things that made Dark Souls great. Oh lordy I can't wait. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Not sure if this is official or not, but even so I approve of the box art

-
OMG the box art looks amazing. i hope they have a collectors edition or something along those lines.
-
That's gotta be a sure thing. Demons and Dark Souls had collectors editions and with Dark Souls 2 coming at a time where the series is at it's most popular, it would be foolish of them not too. Now that is a collectors edition I will be buying.
Been struggling for a while on NG+. Was at that point where I just got the Lordvessel and I was struggling to get past Four Kings/Seath etc. But then, I just sat down and in the space of 4 hrs non stop playing, I beat the Four Kings, beat Seath, am about to fight Bed of Chaos and for the craic, managed to get the achievements for the strongest fire/magic/occult/demon/lightning weapons. I even managed to save Solaire though I made the mistake of using the only Gywn soul I had to get the weapon and not to Solaire so, saving him feels fairly pointless.. Stilll smarting at the fact that I missed out the opportunity to join the Darkwraith and Darkmoon covenants and will have to play again to get it. You know what though? I think I will. I can't imagine myself getting every achievement in the game....but.....XD

Anyone here play Dark Souls on PS3? If so I'm curious to know if you've encountered any issues after the latest patch? I play on 360 but I've heard that a patch on PS3 fucks up the graphics in some way, so anything that gives off light either flickers on and off or disappears entirely. It's rather odd when you see torches and that disappear but it creates a big problem for say, dropped items or your dropped souls, as those give off light and you can't find them. Like in this video:
Return to Dark Souls pt75 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OlzMTujC48#ws)
On a different note, this is pretty funny
Dark Souls: The Tribe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd4JnDKGj_Y#ws)
-
I played PS3. Haven't noticed those issues but I don't think I have connected since the patch was out. I heard the online was down for 24 hours, so maybe they were working to fix it.
I just finished my second playthrough with my vitality/endurance/strength character. It's a lot different than playing as a sorcerer. Bosses are quite a bit trickier, can't just cheese them and light them up with soul spears and homing soulmass. :sweatdrop: Also holy shit I got 3 titanite slabs on this play through farming darkwraiths in the span of like only about 5 runs. O_O So now with those and the slabs from the Stray Demon and the Catarina folk I ended up with my +15 claymore and a ton of fully upgraded gear. :thumbsup
Going back to finish NG+ now with my sorcerer and it made me feel like I'm home again  with my fast light weapons and spells. Catacombs were tougher though, mostly because I kinda forgot to use a divine weapon. -____- Skeletons were swarming and killing me in 2-3 hits and patches is of course much more of an ass (since I started as a Cleric). Not to mention Gravelord Nito is one fight where it's nice to have some poise/defense.
This is pretty cool.

Played dark and demon's souls. Waiting for dark souls 2 really much but march is so far away....

Demons Souls is tough! I'm not really a fan of the world tendency. On paper it's a great idea, having different enemies, locations open up depending on how well you play. But I like playing online and because it does a calculation to determine the median of the server, it means it will always be neutral, so it never changes. To really get the benefits, I'd have to play offline and well, dunno if I want to. There are good things about Demons Souls over Dark Souls, the steady framerate for one, but I prefer Dark Souls to be honest. That's not to say Demons is a bad game though, far from it.
A series of videos on things you never knew about Dark Souls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ_L6hA5LeE#ws). For example, did you know that the giant wheel in Blighttown is powered by a fire dog running in the center, like a hamster wheel? XD
-
New trailer! Pre order editions announced! So getting the Black Armor edition. The figurine is putting me off the Collector's one tbh. Had it been something like, I dunno, a Sunlight medal? I'd be all over it.
Some interesting facts emerging from TGS as well. Perhaps the most important in terms of gameplay, is that you can now be invaded at any time! Hollow or human! Of course there are ways to help out should you need it. You can apparently summon help from a member of the Way of the Blue covenant as you're being invaded by another player. Also, if you want to avoid invasions altogether, you can always play offline. If you really want to get poetic about it, I think it is perhaps more reflective on displaying the hollowing process of the undead. So when you're on the lowest possible level and you can't go on anymore, giving up on the game and ragequitting really means giving up and hollowing. I like it! A quote from this article (http://www.usgamer.net/articles/tgs-dying-sucks-more-than-ever-in-dark-souls-ii)
Un-life as the undead sucks in Dark Souls II. For starters, it makes you ugly. The longer you play in an undead state, the more your character's appearance degenerates. Bad enough that your skin turns green and your face becomes ugly; over time, though, your hair falls out -- and according to director Yui Taimura, even worse things than that can happen as well.
Even worse? Like loss of limbs? XD Maybe, if they wanted to be completely, horribly brutal about it they could have other stats drop if you keep dying.

A nice video that goes into some detail about the latest news
The Shape of Dark Souls 2: Death penalty, White phantom time limit & Hollow invasions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqvOll11zdE#)
I love the fact that now people are complaining that it's going to be too hard! These are the same people who thought it was going to be too easy! No winning with some people. I like the sound of these changes, personally.
-
Word of advice to anyone with a EU Plus account, the Dark Souls 2 beta is free to play this Sunday! Was gonna avoid anything about the beta and wait to see it all in game but to have the chance to play it for myself? For free? Hell yeh I'll take it. Keep in mind it's Sunday only, for the sake of 3 hours (8AM-11AM GMT), as the purpose of the test is to stress test their servers for PVP.
-
Played the early access beta this morning for EU PS Plus members. Came away impressed! It looks great, plays really well. Just feels different, can't quite place it. For those that are still worried in anyway about 'accessibility', I've died probably 9 times in the space of 40 mins. For the sake of the beta I think they've balanced it by having enemies dropping plenty of lifegems, but I imagine that when the final version comes out, it might not be as easy as that. Even if it was, I still died a whole lot!! Few notes:
- Played through to completion as the Dual Swordsman. Very interesting as it's focused purely on going on the offensive all the time. Though I could switch to a shield if things got rough. Pretty odd to have me weilding a greatsword in one hand and a shortsword on the other!
- Arrows shoot so fast now! I eventually figured out that you have to roll as soon as you hear the bow being strung otherwise you're just gonna get hit.
- The boss is essentially a combination of Nito/Pinwheel . Died once when the big 'reveal' of that boss came out but when you figure out how the boss works, it's pretty straightforward to deal with. It was only checking other people's impressions afterwards that I found out there was a second boss to deal with too! How did I miss it?!
- Having two red phantoms catching you in a pincer attack is a dick move, but I love it. Also lots of areas were able to catch me off guard as enemies were hiding round corners or you can even see archers crouching and hiding in camoflauge waiting for you to come and shoot you unawares in a trap.
- You can break the boarded up windows in one of the early indoor areas to let more natural light in the room. You can light a torch at a bonfire and carry it with you, which is handy as it's a dark area. The kind of dark where you need a torch to see properly lest you get ambushed. Carrying a torch does mean the use of your shield arm so you better be careful. Lighting in general is well done here.
- Maybe it's just an instance in this game, but shortcuts now seem to be activated by pressing X rather than hitting a wall. The X prompt seemed a bit finicky. If I just press it next to a door or something it makes it look like I'm trying to switch a weapon. Not sure if it's because I have to hold the button down now to open a door/lever?
- Tried a bit of the sorcerer. Liking the way magic works now with it's change in light/heavy versions of the spells but it isn't all that effective when you have so many enemies in that beta. Luckily there's a new item now which replenishes your magic uses by a little without having to visit a bonfire.
- Liking the new message system! You can string longer sentences now so you could have 'Beware of tough enemy ahead' but you could have 'Beware of tough enemy ahead, therefore, try rolling!' Before the small bridge leading to the fat monster with the dual scythes I had written 'Tough enemy ahead therefore backstepping!' and I got 17 likes on it :D
- I killed the tradeswoman in the starting area. Though rather than having her death be permanent, there was a tombstone which you can pray to (at the expense of 3000 souls) and she is revived as a ghost. So while you can kill NPC's, their death isn't really permanent like in the original. The only penalty now by the looks of it is that if you need to use them again, it comes at a cost of souls. Wonder the same thing happens for other NPC's too or just tradesmen.
- Wasn't able to invade someone else's world, got an error code every time and at one point a textbox was up on the screen notifying me that there were server issues and apologised for the inconvenience. Got this error message towards the end of the beta 'Thank you once again for participating in the DS2 Beta. And we are very sorry about the trouble that some players not able to participate because of our mishandling. Thus we have decided to have an extra CBT session'. So seems like an error on their side? Guess those of us that want more time to play are in luck!
Overall, I love it. Was half expecting to breeze through the beta considering I've played so much of Dark Souls already, but was pleasantly surprised to die a number of times. I came away from it wanting more, even though it kicked my ass a bunch of times, so in essence, just like the original game. Obviously there were issues with PVP, but there's plenty of time yet to sort that out. I wish I could play the whole thing now. March seems so far away.
-
Were you one of the ones who thought the Dark Souls 2 beta was a little bit on the easy side? Well From Software indirectly tells you to go fuck yourself, by confirming that the final game will be harder, more in line with the 'Hard Difficulty' mode that was initiated at the end of the second beta test. (http://gamephilosophe.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/dark-souls-2-will-be-harder-than-beta.html) Bring it on!
New trailer! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Dark Souls II - PS3/X360 - Cursed (Trailer) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SJqRpvebCY#ws)
A very interesting video that sheds more light on PvP, and clarifies a few questions around it.
Dark Souls 2 PvP - Everything we know so far (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vbrryKE1Es#ws)
Most interesting to me:
- A higher agility stat does increase the speed of your movement, blocking, the speed of your roll and potentially the distance of your roll as well as other actions too like drinking estus and using items making it an important stats to dump points into, especially for PvP
- Resistance is a more important stat now too. Higher stat means you can block with more efficiency and have a higher chance of not being guardbroken. Vaati mentioned an instance where someone buffed up the resistance stat greatly and in turn, arrows and small dagger attacks had virtually no impact to his health which would indicate it boosts the effectiveness of your armor
- With strength and dexterity builds, there are different ways of getting around someone who constantly has their shield up. With strength build, more attacks will eventually guard break their opponent, forcing them into a riposte animation which they can follow up on for big damage. While with a higher dexterity, that will boost the effectiveness of any poison/bleed stats, which works right through the shield.
Watch the video! I wasn't as fussed about PvP in DS2 before, but this sounds like it could be a lot of fun!
-
Highly favourable preview from VaatiVidya below. EpicNameBro, who got his chance to play and complete the game, says DS2 is better than 1. Hype levels rising!
Dark Souls 2 - First Impressions of the Full Game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk9Pq_hmiH0#ws)
Which is what annoys me from fans who keep going on about things being too easy, with the announcement of fast travel available from the start and it's now possible to respec your character. It's now absurd to me to think that people are making this early of a judgement call before release. "Oh if it's in the game then it means it's designed for me to use it." No it's not! I've the same issue with people who bitched about fast travel in Skyrim. If you want to travel everywhere by foot then there is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. Same here in Dark Souls 2. You need to travel on foot to get to these bonfires first of all before you're able to warp between them. If anyone complains about the world not being cohesive enough or as intertwined with the level design as in Dark Souls 1, then I'm not going to take them seriously on that. I'm really not, because it just means they used fast travel a whole lot. If you do use it, then that's YOUR problem, not the game's because I can be damn sure it will never ever ever force it upon you.
People who do complain also conveniently forget all the things that will make DS2 harder than the original. Like your max health being capped off every time you die, right down to a half of what it should be. Overall enemy placement and combat is harder than before. Players can invade you at any time, hollow or human. They should really stop worrying too much and just wait until the game's out before passing judgement. I'll much rather take solace from ENB and VaatiVidya on their experiences with actually playing Dark Souls 2 and how it works over some neckbeard keyboard warrior.

Peter Serafinowicz is a well established actor and voice actor (Darth Maul in Star Wars, Pete in Shaun of the Dead) and he also happens to be a massive Dark Souls fan. He'll voice a character in Dark Souls 2 and here he is talking a little about why he likes the game so much. He's played DS2 and gives away a very brief moment early on in Dark Souls 2 which may ruin the surprise for you if you learn about it before discovering it for yourself in-game so you've been warned.

Next week! It's here next week! Or rather Tues for you lucky bastards in the US! They finally confirmed a PC release date too, 25th April. Again, gotta laugh at the PC diehards complaining and threatening to cancel their pre-order. Go right ahead and do that then. Entitled pricks don't realise that even with this short delay, they've had to wait less time for the sequel than those who played the consoles!
Let's not focus on the negativity though. Dare you watch part of the opening prologue before release?

HOW BADLY DID YOU DO?
-
Been watching some youtubers play DS2 and even I have to say the cinematic intro was amazing!
-
Oh yeah the Souls games have some amazing cinematric intros. I mean, in Demons Souls, when you see the giant shadow pass over the land and the music and backing vocals start to kick in, it still gives me a tingly feeling in my pants
Demon's Souls intro HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnEzkbdTa0I#ws)
And of course, the first Dark Souls does a great job in establishing the world and in setting up the main bosses you will be fighting in it's intro. You're watching it and in the back of your mind I'm like "I have to fight that?". All the while it looks pretty damn good too.

Picked it up a few days ago. Played about 10 hours so far and absolutely loving it! Went with a deprived character which was definitely a mistake. Kinda been going the magic route but now I'm leveling up strength after I found some bad ass weapons I need it for. Right now I'm trying to get by a spot where you fight 3 bosses at the same time and am getting blown away. Can't really cheese them with my magic and I'm just too obsessed with saving stuff to use effigies so I can summon help. Gotta find a way to pick them off one by one. :banghead:
Overall the world is super beautiful and intriguing and amazingly, all the technical annoyances I had from DS1 (slowdown, random delayed inputs, jarring lock on switching) are fixed! Also seems like there are way more little hidden rooms, secrets, unlockables, items, weapons, items, enemies and just stuff in general and there are path choices freaking everywhere.
-
Yep loving it, as I would thought. Only defeated The Last Giant last night so I'm not far in the grand scheme of things. I've noticed a number of changes between DS1 and 2 aside from the obvious and known (fast travel from the get go, health cap decreasing each time you die etc) The biggest is that enemies stop respawning after a number of times. It's not drastic, from my experience one tough enemy was gone when I respawned at a bonfire and then another over time, but it doesn't make the game easier as you would expect. In Dark Souls 1, if you were stuck on a boss you could grind that area out for souls and use them to level up, but if enemies don't respawn over time you're kind of stuck with the souls you have. The only alternatives are to try another area (which may have too hard enemies for you) or to use the bonfire esthetic which will respawn those enemies, but on NG+ difficulty. Otherwise, start perfecting your skills against the bosses or really start ensuring you make it back to your bloodstain and reclaim those souls otherwise you may never work your way up to that number again in that area.
Because make no mistake, DS2 is hard. The way the combat feels is different enough from DS1 that really keeps you on your toes. Enemies are more prone to attack in groups, generally speaking backstabs aren't as easy to pull off anymore, there's no invincibility frames in rolling anymore, weapon degradation is a huge deal now as it can go down so quickly and combat is a little..slower? It certainly takes a second or two longer to raise your shield! It's both similar and different enough to keep you on your toes. The Forest of Fallen Giants alone has caused me to die more times than I did in the Undead Burg the first time and frankly the idea of seeing what lies ahead in later areas both excites and terrifies me.
But I love it. Love the challenge, love exploring the environments and finding NPC's to talk to or secret treasures and areas to find. The enemy design and backgrounds (Majula!!!) are gorgeous to look at. The combat is still as fun and rewarding to play too. I spent a good 3 mins taking on the Heide Knight with a dagger and it was so satisfying to beat him and get his weapon as a result.
What starting class did everyone choose? I went with Warrior. Was thinking of Swordsman, but I couldn't pass up my sword/shield combo. Hoping to spec my way later so I can use pyromancy when I find the spells to do so.
-
I gave Dark Souls another shot earlier, but it was a little too easy with my lv100 character, plus I had done it all before, so why not try a new class & character? \o/
So I made a sorceress with red hair and pigtails, isn't she cute?!
(http://t.imgbox.com/P7BfyqGC.jpg) (http://imgbox.com/P7BfyqGC)
oh.... :shilivid:
I was having a really easy time of it knowing the game so well, plus magic seems to kill most things in one hit from a distance so I didn't stay hollowed this time around and let invaders in.
The very first one chased me around until he backstabbed me with some cursed weapon that infected me with the parasite eggs that take away half of your earned souls, which you can't remove until later in the game (Queelag's Domain?) after beating a hard boss. So I'm not even sure if I should continue now, my character is crippled and levelling will be reduced to half of normal.
All I can really try is the rare drop from the tree lizards in darkroot garden.
EDIT: HA! got an Egg Vermifuge from the first lizard, glad I knew about that, it would have been awful.
-
^ That invader of yours must have cheated because there's no weapon that inflicts that status ailment. Only the Egg Carriers around the Demon Ruins and the Maggots near Quelaags lair have the ability to do that. You're right, the best bet at your stage is to hope for a rare drop from the tree lizards. Either that or make it to Queelag, defeat her and then speak to Eingyi through the illusion wall. That sucks mate, hope you weren't too far on when it happened.
Dark Souls 2 is preeeeeeeety good you guys. PVP is a lot better this time, I'm a part of the Bell Keeper covenant and I enjoy invading other people's worlds. Definately worth doing too, each kill gets you a titanite chunk and after ranking up once in the covenant, I got a titanite slab! There's no penalty for attempting to invade, you don't lose humanity or souls, and if you die you just go back to where you last were. You can gain humanity back through invading though I'm not sure what determines this, as it seems to be random. I defeated one of the great ones already, which was a very Artorias-esque boss battle. I cannot believe that the Gargoyles are back. And you have to fight 3 of them at any given time. 6 in total! Need to upgrade my falchion more I think. Upgrading your weapon is quite an ordeal this time round, I need large titanite shards, but haven't found any yet. Finally found a Pyromancy flame as well, spells look so cool now, I'm using a spell called Lingering Flame and the way the fire emerges from your hand, light shining off you, making the cloth flap in the wind. So good.
**EDIT**
Nice one pika! Praise the Sun!!
-
I think I took it as far as I could, I beat tower gargoyle, moonlight butterflies, some drakes, I just have to grind again now in Blightown and I don't really want to grind again
-
I have defeated Dark Souls 2! Was absolutely beautiful and tons of fun and made me say many swear words! : P
Still lots to do though. Need to beat the dang Ancient Dragon. I'm a Dark pilgrim covenant member so gotta do those dungeons too. There is so much hidden stuff, quest lines and other things it's kinda crazy. Didn't use any summons (although god damn I really wanted to for an area where there was a bunch of casters assholes endlessly blasting my face). Didn't really get invaded or try PVP at all yet either, well besides two Bell Keeper jerks double teaming me with poison weapons when I went in Belfry Sol. : (

Moonlight Greatsword is a beast! (Was using magic mace the first 2/3 of the game)
Staff of Wisdom
Black Witch and Lion Mage stuff for the casting bonuses (and I always gotta have that under 30% fast roll!)

This was taken right after losing 190k souls out of sheer stupidity. Was thinking I had the Ring of Life Protection on, died, then shuffled my way right off a ledge trying to take a shortcut back. :sweatdrop: I heard NG+ is a lot different and hard so I'll do that when I get the nerve. . .
-
Well I tried not to, but I ended up grinding after all for 2 days straight, oops!
Beaten 3 of the lords and heading for the 4 kings.

I thought I could get some more of the achievements before games for windows live shut down, so I get all the sorceries and the achievement didn't unlock :/ PC version is so screwed.

Beat the Ancient Dragon and Darklurker! Soul Geyser is just unfair. Now on to NG+. : D
Also a fantastic lore video by DaveControl. Spoilers obviously.

Defeated the Smelter Demon on my first attempt. Dodged left, swiped a couple of times, then backed off. Not too bad. Imagine my surprise then when I've read quite a number of opinions that they consider it the hardest boss in the game, even harder than Ornstein and Smough. No chance! Have those people even really played a Souls game before? The Gargoyles, Dear Duke Freja have been harder than it. Granted, I do have a Falchion +10 and Estus Flask +4 at the ready, so I was probably overlevelled in comparison to others playing it. But still, the base mechanics of that fight makes it look like it's easy enough to handle even at low levels. I don't know, maybe NG+ will be more of a challenge with that fight.
Think I will retire my Falchion +10 for PVP only. It's kind of removing the challenge as it tears through enemies in 2-3 hits. Swapping to Ricard's Rapier just for a different moveset to get used to and add more of the challenge back into it.
So I have 3 out of 4 great souls acquired. Does anyone know, as a rough estimate, how much of the game I've done? Am I nearing the end?

I would guesstimate you are at about the half way mark? Still a ways to go. NG+ is a actually pretty different too. Some new enemy types, red phantoms everywhere, bosses have some different twists and a lot of gear you can only get in NG+.
Smelter was easy till the third stage when he is doing crazy fire damage. He did take me a few tries. I heard a lot of people have trouble with darklurker but I annihilated him first try. Same with Royal Rat Authority.
This is so damn beautiful. :0

Not entirely surprised to hear that Dark Souls 2 PC is suffering from constant crashing, as the first game still hasn't been fixed to this day, and what do you know, it's crashing for me too \o/ so I can't play it anymore.
I'm just trying to get the last 5 achievements done before Windows Live shuts down, but it's probably Windows Live that is crashing it  the irony!

DS2 on PC, so hard it crashes the game on you! Shame to hear, but From Software are looking into a patch and no doubt it will come. Kind of highlights one of the drawbacks with PC gaming I guess.
Don't know whether to ditch my Drangleic shield in favour of this dropped shield I found in Drangleic castle. It has better defenses against the elements and lighter which suits my DEX character nicely. It only blocks 90% of physical damage as opposed to 100% on the Drangleic shield, which is making me question which one. Thought thinking about it now, I can always swap to Drangleic for PVP while learning with this one.
Dark Souls 2 knows how to create some amazing looking vistas. First time you reach Drangleic Castle is so good.
*EDIT*
Found out the name of the Llewellyn shield. I know this because I found the Llewellyn armor last night and holy shit it looks awesome. Problem is you have to upgrade it with Twinkling Titanite which I don't have much of but god....damn, that is one sexy armor set.

They've been 'looking into' the problems with DS1 for 2 years and also 'looking into' patching the game so it actually remains playable after GFWL shuts down in 2 months, neither of which have been done and probably won't be. If DS2 doesn't get patched, well they got away with it once, why not twice?
I cannot disagree more about the PC gaming comment, other games get patched constantly and work just fine, this is all Bandai/Namco & From Software's fault/laziness/not giving a shit. Other games have been patched for the GFWL shutdown, I even have 2 extra copies of the 2 Batman Arkham games that I got for free, because of this. I'm not even going to touch the PC version of DS2, and PC players have every right to be pissed off at DS2 having a basic port, especially if it has problems like the first game.

With the combination of the enemies and the solo vocals of the singing woman, I think the Shrine of Amana broke me last night. One point I died and was just laughing uncontrollably at how much I struggled. I only got through last night partly because enemies had started to despawn around the bonfire area I was really stuck on, to my shame. I tried the trick of parrying the magic spells with a shield but I suck at parrying and even when I was successful it just deflected to a different direction. I really like the area though, the atmosphere is nicely set by that woman singing, which is obviously reminiscent of the Tower of Latria from Demon's Souls. The area itself reminds me of Ash Lake due to the giant three branches covering the sky and water just everywhere. I wonder if the two are actually linked, because you get down there by a super long elevator ride, which is kind of reminiscent of going down the Great Hollow. Would be cool if it was, Ash Lake is the most impressive and atmospheric area in any Souls game.

Fun in Dark Souls? what is this sorcery?!

^ That's amazing, I would love to try it for myself haha
I just defeated the Throne Watcher/Throne Defender boss fight solo in Dark Souls 2 right as I type this! Fuck yeh! That boss is every bit as challenging as fighting Ornstein & Smough solo and just as rewarding when you win. Guardian Dragon I've only fought once, died pretty easily. And then having a real hard time of it with Darklurker, which almost seems impossible for a melee build character like me.
So I'm at Guardian Dragon, is there much left to do in the game at this point? Kinda doesn't feel that way? Like things are wrapping up almost. Would like to have Darklurker killed before then as it's an optional boss, but I really have to be better at it considering I have to offer a human effigy for every attempt and they're running out... Though I understand that NG+ is an altogether different beast in terms of difficulty, new monster layouts, boss movesets, additional content etc so really looking forward to doing it all over again snd seeing what it offers. 77+ hrs and counting on first playthough.

They announced Dark Souls 2 DLC! 3 seperate parts in July, August and September. New areas, new enemies, new bosses. They said a while back that they weren't going to consider DLC for Dark Souls 2 but retracted on it a few months ago by saying they would consider it by listening to the community. I'll be optimistic and believe them on that rather than it being part of the marketing plan all along. Even if it is, I really don't mind, after all, it's more Dark Souls 2. Artorias of the Abyss DLC was easily one of the best pieces of DLC to have ever been made and had some of the best bosses in Dark Souls 1 overall, so I'm really excited to play this. Wonder if it will be as difficult to get to as the Artorias DLC? XD

Really digging the first of the DLC packs released today. It's a return to Dark Souls 1 style level design, feels like this big maze, with puzzles involved. Like a more involved version of the Oolacile Township from the first game. Most of Dark Souls 2 was you against the enemies but it feels here like the environment is against you too and you have to be at your best to overcome it. And the enemies are tough too. Granted, I'm playing on NG+ which doesn't help. But so far it's pretty challenging but fair. Wonder how many bosses there are. They tease you with one, right from the get go. Looking forward to it.

I finished the DLC today! I really enjoyed it, so much so that I think if Shulva was in the main game, then it would probably have been my favourite area. Such an interesting area to explore. Also the bosses, holy crap. Elana really does show how Nashandra was the weakest fragment of Manus, considering how tough Elana was in comparison. The battle with Sinh was also pretty much Kalameet 2.0 and just as challenging and epic as the original was too. Adds some really interesting lore and impacts it has on the main game as well, and reading up about it and the implications it has is fascinating stuff.
Though I have to say, I did have some issues. The Dragon Knights had so much poise it was ridiculous. The ganker bosses in Cave of the Dead were impossible solo too. I really feel like it was designed for co-op and not solo play as I don't recall a Souls boss that requires you to take on 3 equally hard bosses at the same time. Perhaps things might have been different had I not played in NG+ version, but still...It also adds nothing to the lore, other than you're fighting 3 human graverobbers. No souls obtained afterwards. Nothing.
Still from what I've played it gets me really excited to see what the next two bits of DLC will be like as it's already one of the best pieces of DLC I've played. Also, again, fantastic work on the soundtrack.

Souls? Who cares about souls? Gimmie that flower skirt any day!
But yea they were really tough solo, took a couple out running around taking drive by pot shots but got killed right at the final blow. Ended up rage summoning the npcs after that. I'm also like level 250 in NG+++ soooo
Looking forward to the rest of the DLC. :thumbsup

^ Which is out today btw! Thank goodness I took today off!
I'm assuming we'll fight another shard of Manus but I wonder if there will be any new bosses, as in, not seen in the game before and not just reskins (not hating btw, Elena and Sinh are some of the best bosses in the whole game)
-
Just finished the last bit of DLC and thus any new content to expect from Dark Souls 2 (not that I'll stop playing it anytime soon). Biggest gripe I have with each of them? The co op designed areas. Near impossible to do solo and the end of each one is fighting a gank squad (Sunken King) an old boss (Old Iron King) and two of the same boss you fought earlier in the same DLC (Ivory King). But, had each of these areas been in the main game, they would have easily been amongst the best areas, visually and from a gameplay perspective. It also has some of the best bosses that any Souls game has ever seen. Sinh, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight, Aava, Burnt Ivory King. All fantastic. If Dark Souls 2 by itself was a candidate for my game of the year, the added DLC pretty much nails it on the head.

Just started playing Dark Souls, first game in the Souls series for me.
Since I couldn't decide on a class (Knight, Wanderer, Thief or Bandit) I just went with Deprived XD
So far I'm loving it!
-
Oh wow you picked Deprived! That's usually chosen by players with a bit more experience as it's starting gear isn't great making the game harder from the beginning as a result until you find better armor and weapons. Picking a class doesn't mean much in Dark Souls. There's no unique abilities or character traits that come from choosing a class like in other RPG's. In Dark Souls, choosing the class is just a way of picking a character that has starting stats that favor heavily towards the type of character you want to make. Although it is hard to think about that when you're just starting the game.
My advice initially would be to get yourself familiarised with the combat and sort of determine early on what type of character you want to make and point points into those stats when levelling up. Like a tank character who can wield heavy armor and take hits? An agile guy focusing on rolling and dodging? A mage? Dark Souls doesn't really favour classes that are balanced across all stats and typically you'll have an easier time playing a character who is focused on a few.
Other than that, keep playing and enjoy! The thread here is open if you need advice. I envy you now, there's nothing else quite like the experience of your first Souls game.
-
I talked about this before with coachie but I actually found deprived pretty easy to use in the beginning when I took it for a trial run, seeing as you aren't going to have more than 1 spell with a mage at the start etc, and the stats (I forget what they are now) actually end up being a big help & benefit in the long run. Everyone dies at the start no matter what class they are, so once you find the first shop, it's smooth sailing from there.
