This fic came to mind when I read a translated portion regarding Minami’s meeting with Ishiba Shigeru:
Minami: as General Supervisor I always think I've to support everyone; I think I've to take one-two step(s) back, but after all... If something happens to junior members, I definitely get told by fans: "why don't you get mad at them?", and at that time I think: "in what way... (do you mean that)?"
Mr. Ishiba Shigeru: ...this is job. The people who're on the site are the ones who suffer hardship the most. And you as General Supervisor must take on your shoulder other girls' liability as well. This is job.
Minami: well, I actually know that in my mind, but however I feel such disappointment...
Mr. Ishiba Shigeru: why the hell has this to happen, that's what you think right?
Minami: yeah, why the hell?!
I also recall the time Minami talked to that fortune teller and talked about her role and the fans. It seems little by little she’s growing as a leader and learning that sometimes she just has to deal with what’s thrown at her. But in the beginning it must have been hard and confusing for her.

The handshake event was going smooth as usual and Minami was as always overjoyed to meet the fans of AKB. Even if it was only for a few seconds, those meetings were important. She also felt it important to give back to the fans, and thus treasured every second.

The fans would smile and express their support and love and even tease the members like they were long time friends. Now of course, Minami was also accustomed to receiving feedback and requests from the fans. She always did her best to listen, and appreciated that the fans cared so much for the other members and came to her. When they asked her to look out for a member, she would reassure them that she always would. When asked to relay something to Aki-P, she would if it were a valid and reasonable concern. She always tried her best and within her power to help the group. As a member, friend and leader.
Her leadership role was one she eased into. One Aki-P believed she could do. Over the years she realized that she had to “bring the courage to be hated.” She had to put the well being of group first and speak her mind, even if it brought protests from other members. However, sometimes Minami was at a loss as what to do. She knew controlling over 300 girls was not easy but she tried her best.

She was all smiles as the fans passed one by one, but at the back of her head she couldn’t help but think about all the scandals that occurred, and the one with Yuki and Miichan was still fresh. It was events like these that confused her. Do I act a leader or a friend to them? I have to put the wellbeing of the group first right? But each individual member makes up the group as well right? Do I scold them? Comfort them? Do I even have the right to scold them? But they’re my friends, I should support them...But the rules...How could I let their actions go when it could affect the group and the younger girls. We have to set an example. Otherwise how can we expect them to listen if their sempais are messing up? All these thoughts were running around her head, but she was brought back to reality when she noticed a fan who wasn’t smiling when he approached his turn.
“Hi,” Minami greeted with her best smile putting her worries aside for now. The fan gently took her outstretched hand but still didn’t smile.
“Ne, you’re the leader right. What are you doing?”
“Eh” Minami didn’t get where he was coming from.
“How could you let all those scandals happen? AKBs image is being ruined and you’re not doing anything. How could you not do anything? You should’ve known and protected them” he calmly but frustratingly said as his time was up and had to move on.
“Sorry” was all she managed to say as he left. Wait what? Was he mad at me for not protecting them or mad I let it happen...Maybe both. She was no stranger to fans complaining about other members, but honestly what could she do? This case was different though. She didn’t know how to handle answering about the scandals. Just when she thought that’d be it about the topic for the day, she was surprised to find that many others had the same compliant.
“Hey Miichan’s your best friend right? Did you know?”
“How could you let her go through that? Why didn’t you stop her?
“Sorry but I won’t be supporting you guys anymore”
“Shouldn’t you be making sure the members don’t get into trouble?”
“Are you really doing your job as the leader?”
“They should be listening to you right?”
“It is true what happened with Yuki, what can you say about it?”
“What if they graduate because of this? Will you take responsibility?”
“Shouldn’t you be mad at them?”
“Please protect the members Takamina san!”
Minami was exhausted. Her head spinning. She hadn’t been this quiet during handshake events before but she honestly didn’t know how to reply to half these questions. For once she wanted the handshake event to end quickly. She glanced to her line and could only see judgment in their eyes. Her mind neglecting they excited fans. She was scared? Huh...Scared...Why am I scared? I’ve handled this before right? I’ve handled worse things before right? So why do I feel so powerless.
“Minami are you okay?” Minami turned to see Yuko giving her a worried look. Oh yah. Yuko’s right by my lane. I forgot. Why is she asking if I’m okay? I’m f...Huh...Everything is so blurry. Minami rubbed her eyes, and when she opened them she only saw black. Wha..? She lost her balance and tried to stretch out her arm to the table for support but missed, and fell. Before losing consciousness she could hear the fans, security and a few members close by her calling out.
What do I do?

grrrr.... :angry1: this got me thinking again by those...people...that kept complaining to Takamina... :on voodoo: :on voodoo: :on voodoo: tsk...tsk... she's a human being...she can't always do everything <_< if ya know what i mean....(errr...somehow I feel that I'm doing my wordings wrong...o.o" I can't really express what I'm saying... that much... e.o) anyways~ continue~! I like this! I want to see what happens next to Takamina... (>_<)

I can just image what's happening to Takamina in those situation...
At every couple of seconds... the fans coming and complaining about everything and anything to Takamina...
Ah... Takamina's head is overload... she is getting scared of all the blames and the angers of the fans...
She faint... AH... POOR TAKAMINA...
I do hope it's only in this fic... not really in real life...
What's going to happen to Takamina?

PS: Even if Takamina is the leader and the general manager, she is NOT their individual manager...
She can organize their jobs & schedules inside AKB but not outside AKB...
All those AKB members have their own individual manager right...?
Those managers should have some plans for damage control or something then.... They are the one that always with them....
Anyhow... most of the times those scandals are just misinterpret of photos that paparazzi took without any hard evidences...
Most of them are fabricate news... not Real... Just fake scandals... because most people like read or talk about gossips right?

WantingtoCuddle: Indeed fans need to understand that, even if it's wrong, I get that they go to Minami to complain since they don't have access to other managers or Aki-p

cisda83: I also hope this doesn't/never happens in real life! And you're right. From what I understand, the members each has a manager. Minami is indeed not responsible for their private lives, she can only influence them in AKB and hope they follow her example. The individual managers do tend to come up with a cover up, but of course Minami isn't told about it, and fans don't have access to those managers so they go to her. & of course Minami can't answer certain questions about scandals because she doesn't have the proper information.

Minami felt her consciousness slowly returning, but she was afraid to open her eyes. Afraid that if she did, she’d be back at the handshake event.
“Hey she’s stirring; I think she’s waking up!” Yuko. She’s here? And the others too. I probably shouldn’t let them worry. She opened her eyes and was welcomed by four familiar worried faces looking down at her.
“Um...Not that I don’t love you guys but your proximity to my face is creeping me out, and your making me wish I hadn’t woken up.” Minami joked as they all exchanged worried but relieved glances with one another and slowly backed away. Tomochin, Haruna, Yuko and Mariko were all present.
There was an awkward silence and Minami wondered if they wanted her to break it. I hope they didn’t miss the handshake even because of me...wait... “THE HANDSHAKE EVENT!” she shouted sitting upright from the bed. Yuko, the closest to her bed covered her ears then flicked Minami on the forehead. “Ow! What was that for?!” she pouted.
“Indoor voice. And don’t go jumping outta bed like that,” Yuko scolded.
“The event ended already, don’t worry. After the medics took you away we resumed as best as we could” Tomochin reassured.
“We wanted to come with you but figured we should finish the event since knowing you, you’d blame yourself if things came to a halt,” Mariko added as she handed Minami a glass of water.
“Thanks...So what happened exactly?”
“That’s what we’re wondering? But regarding your condition, you were out for a few hours. The doctor said you collapsed due to exhaustion and stress but since you fell down pretty hard they wanted to make sure you were okay.” Haruna calmly explained.
“Am I?” Minami asked.
“You tell us kiddo” Mariko said.
Minami looked to all four and saw they weren’t going to let her off the hook. She sighed then smiled and scratched the back of her head. “Haha of course I’m okay. I guess I just didn’t get enough sleep with our busy schedule and missed breakfast but I’m...OW!” before Minami could finish Yuko flicked her forehead again.
“Don’t lie idiot. Who do you think we are? I was by your lane remember? I did pick up on a few things the fans said to you. Plus some concerned fans that were in your line came to mine and mentioned you were being given a hard time”
Minami didn’t like the looks they were giving her. She understood they were worried, but she wasn’t helpless. Besides, this was her problem; she didn’t want the others to worry. She always sheds her tears in front of the members but this....this isn’t something she can cry about in front of them. “I’m fine really. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was just tired and let things easily get to me. I’m okay now” she tried to smile but they all just sighed.
“You’re really stubborn. You can’t keep doing this you know. Bottling everything inside. It’ll drive you crazy someday. I get you think everything’s your responsibility but it’s not. At least it doesn’t have to be. What the heck are we around for? You should rely on us more...And if you can’t, at least talk to us. You can’t do everything yourself.” Yuko gently but impatiently chided.
“Minami, we know you’re under stress and pressure but maybe we can help,” Haruna added when she saw Minami wasn’t saying anything.
“You can’t” she said flatly. Taking everyone by surprise. “Talking won’t help. It won’t change anything. Listening to you guys reassuring me with empty words means nothing when I don’t have the results to back it up. You can’t protect me from a role that naturally fell to me, that I accepted. You can’t protect me from the words of the fans because it’s my responsibility to listen to them. Maybe they’re right. Maybe I’m not doing enough. Not being enough. I try to set an example for the members to follow, but if my closest friends are breaking the rules without me knowing then I must be an idiot. I must be doing a terrible job if most members are breaking the rules regardless of my leadership...”
The room was quiet. The quiet was however broken when the sound of a slap resonated within the room. Haruna, Marko and Tomochin looked in shock at Yuko who just struck Minami, who was equally in shock.
“The only time your being an idiot is now! Maybe you are a terrible leader, because clearly you’re not looking at what’s right in front of you!” Yuko angrily said as she stormed out of the room, declaring she needed “fresh air.”
Haruna ran out after Yuko and Mariko stopped Tomochin from saying something to Minami.
“We’ll be leaving now to let you rest. Don’t worry about Yuko, she just needs to clear her head...Maybe you should do the same,” Mariko said as she guided herself and Tomochin out.

Mariko caught up to Haruna and Yuko who were already outside. “Yuko I understand how you feel but don’t you think you went too far” Haruna chided.
“Tsk...I would’ve yelled at her more but held back. She just...She made me mad. Why can’t she realize she’s got us and other members to back her up?” Yuko complained.
Mariko walked up along with Tomochin and calmly said; “maybe because it’s the members who are unconsciously hurting her” Everyone let those words hang in the air for a bit. Realizing there was a hint of truth to her words. Minami would never admit...Heck she probably would never think to bring the fault to anyone but herself. However, the member’s actions hurt not only them, but they hurt the group, and in doing so they hurt Minami. How could Minami go to members for help when they’re not being honest with her? Miichan is one of her best friends, and yet look what happened. It’s no one’s fault really. Just how things are. These thoughts were floating through everyone’s mind.
Yuko sighed. “I get it...But I get only she can get it...AHHH! It just sucks. She feels powerless but how does she think we feel knowing we can’t do anything for her, especially when she won’t let us! OW!” Yuko cried out as Haruna flicked her forehead just how Yuko did to Minami. “What was that for!?”
“Sorry, you’re freaking out and yelling so I figured I’d calm you down”
“Like hell that will calm me down” Yuko silently muttered and the other two smirked at Yuko who actually relaxed.
“Look, clearly we’re all doing something wrong. None of us can be perfect. Minami knows this, she’s admitted it before, but forgot along the way due to circumstances. She just needs a reminder. Someone to talk to,” Tomochin said.
“Where were you the last 10 min, what do you think we were doing in there with bakami...OW...Haruna stop flicking my forehead..Geez now I know how Minami felt...” Yuko pouted while rubbing the red spot on her forehead.
“What I mean is, right now she won’t listen to the members, because right now she believes she has an image to maintain in front of us...What she needs is to talk to someone who isn’t in AKB” Tomochin explained.
Mariko nodded in approval, “someone who can get Minami to think straight again and to open up...”
“Someone who can remind the leader she’s just human...” Haruna continued.
“That she’s not alone...& that can scold her...” Tomochin finished.
“Who are we talking about?” Yuko asked but regretted her question as all three of them flicked her forehead again. “OW! I was just kidding. Acchan its Atsuko! Geez”
Mariko smiled and took out her cell phone. “Yup, our secret weapon”

The actress had just finished filming another episode for her drama. Her mind was elsewhere though. She'd heard the news of AKB's General Manager collapsing at the handshake event but due to her schedule, she had to finish her shooting before being allowed to leave. Mariko sama had texted her not to worry, but as she was leaving the studio, she heard her cell phone beep. A message from Mariko sama.
Atsuko read the contents of the message and without a second thought, she got into her car and drove towards her destination.

I can understand all Mimami's feelings and thinking... She is the leader... her example not being followed...
If the younger members causing the problems that's fine... Doesn't really affect much on the group yet...
But the older members... or the earliest generations the ones that causing problems.... She can't do anything...
She is there in the middle... She can't blame or she won't blame the members
And she can't blame the fans from bad mouthing her or placing the blames in her since she is the leader... She supposed to lead them...
Ah... Yeah... only to someone that is outside AKB she can talk to....
Yeah... Atsuko is coming...

lol I soon as I saw that I was like, "Acchan!!!!!!!!" :cathappy: Ooooo~ Acchan will talk some sense to Takamina~ XD hehehe so is this going to turn to Atsumina now? ;) since everyone is saying it...I thought I should say it also ;p Hahaha ...but since this wasn't entitled 'atsumina' in the beginning I'm assuming you won't? And all of that can be just all about their friendship that will come into role... Lol I dunno just mah thinking since I have a feeling it was kind of meant/to turn out to be this way... however...WE can still dream about the pairing :lol:

Minami had just finished changing back into her clothes in her private hospital room. The doctor told her she was free to leave after some rest, but figured she’ll do the resting at home since it was already getting late, and she didn’t want to stay the night here. Just before she placed her hand on the door knob, the door flung open and hit her on the head.

Atsuko heard the thud as she opened the door, and when she stepped in and looked down, she saw Minami crouching and holding her forehead. She couldn’t help but smile at how tiny Minami looked curled up like that while muttering incoherent words. “You shouldn’t stand behind the door like that, it’s dangerous”
“Well it’s not like I wanted to be hit by the door! And you should’ve knocked!” Minami finally looked up and was taken aback that Atsuko was the one standing above her. “Eh! Atsuko! What are you doing here?” Minami asked as she took the extended hand Atsuko offered to pull her back up.
“What do you mean? I can’t visit a friend who got admitted to the hospital,” Atsuko angrily pouted.
Minami sighed. “That’s not what I meant; don’t go twisting my words around. I’m glad you came to visit...Thanks. But there’s really no need to worry. Besides, you’re busy aren’t you? Shouldn’t you go home and rest for tomorrow?” Minami asked. She was glad to see Atsuko but she really didn’t want company at the moment and just wanted to go home. Besides, she didn’t want to burden the actress, and she knew if she couldn’t shake her off, she’d be stuck with her for awhile. Ah! I bet Yuko and the others called her...Wait, does she know what happened then...Oh man she’s giving me that look that says I’m about to be lectured big time. “Um Atsuko, you’re kind of creeping me out with the silence...”
Atsuko closed the door and walked past Minami and sat on the bed. When Minami turned to make eye contact, Atsuko pointed beside her and said, “sit.”
What am I, a dog? Her tone and expression aren’t exactly leaving me much of a choice. Plus she called me by my name, she’s serious. I let out sigh and sat down beside her. Refusing to talk first.
Atsuko broke the silence and looked to Minami while she spoke, even though the other girl still had her head down. “A co-worker of mine was caught sleeping with the director”
“Eh” Minami looked up to meet Atsuko’s eyes and wondered why she’d tell her that.
“She’s a good girl, and it’s not against the rules or anything, but its unprofessional don’t you think. The director is also well respected and experienced in his field, so I found it strange he’d do such a thing. Most people on set were really mad those two were keeping such a secret, since it affected everyone working on the drama. One day during filming, the director and actress apologized to us all, and agreed to put their relationship to a halt until the filming was over. Well, everyone was kind enough to forgive them, agreeing to keep things under wraps as long as the two maintained a professional relationship while working together... And that was the end of that.”
Minami was actually listening intently to Atsuko speaking. She was somewhat confused and shocked by what she heard. She figured that this kind of stuff happens everywhere, even on the sets for actors and actresses. However, she was still at a loss as to why Atsuko was telling her this.
The confused expression on Minami’s face gave away her thoughts and Atsuko lightly laughed, earning a pout from the other girl. “Sorry. I’m kind of bad at this, but I guess I just wanted you to know that everyone messes up sometimes. The director is in a position of power, he’s supposed to lead us all by example while we work under him, and yet he was caught doing such a thing. Strange right?”
Minami narrowed her eyebrows in thought, and then said, “That’s irresponsible of them. Especially the director. Hiding and doing something like that. If it went public it’d be bad for everyone working on the drama”
Atsuko gave a questioning look to Minami, “That’s true. It’s wrong to hide something like that. Especially considering the consequences. They were only thinking about themselves and thought “”maybe if we keep it a secret, no one will get hurt”” but they didn’t consider what’d happen if they were found out”
“And that’s why I said it’s irresponsible” Minami stated, more strongly this time.
“It’s human!” Atsuko retorted, realizing Minami was getting worked up. “People make mistakes. They make wrong decisions and completely neglect the possible consequences. They do what they want to do, regardless of restrictions. That director was the person in position of power, and the girl had a responsible manager, but that didn’t stop the two from doing what they wanted....Just like it is with the members. Why do you keep forgetting that?” Atsuko asked, her tone reaching slight frustration.
Minami was taken aback again, finally connecting all the dots between Atsuko’s story and AKB. “Wha...What does that have to do with me?” she asked, still trying to figure out where Atsuko was going with this.
“It doesn’t. That’s the point. Do you seriously think just by leading with a good example you can get 300 girls to become absolute angels and not do anything wrong? Cause if you do, you’re delirious. All you can do is guide them while in AKB, and hope they make the right decisions. But their mistakes are theirs to make. It has nothing to do with their respect for you or your ability as a leader” Atsuko said with confidence. She saw Minami was thinking about her words.
“But I!... I’m supposed to look out for them, I’m supposed to realize if things go wrong...I,” before Minami could finish, Atsuko interrupted her.
“Realize what? Members keep secrets to make sure no one realizes. Of course they won’t come to you and tell you they’re breaking the rules. It’s their lives; you have no obligation to them outside AKB” Atsuko saw Minami hang her head down, and she gently reached out with her hand to lift up Minami’s face. “Your only job is to be yourself. To do your best, to lead just like you have been. You don’t have to change anything. If a scandal arises, scold them as a leader and support them as a friend, but never blame yourself. You know I’m being honest with you Minami. I’d never sugar-coat something just to make you feel better. Everyone has their role in AKB, and mine ended. You still have to live with yours. You have to live with the hate, the responsibility, and fans that will shove all their problems down your throat...But you can’t let that get to you, otherwise...You’ll never move forward. You taught me that remember, when I was having trouble as the ACE. Prove to me you weren’t telling me lies”
Minami felt the tears trail down her face, and wasn’t sure when she started crying. The look Atsuko was giving her was enough to convince Minami that she meant and believed every word she said. “It... It’s just so hard and frustrating sometimes...” Minami chocked out through the tears.
Atsuko brought her friend close and hugged her, gently caressing her back. “I know...I know. But you know what, only you can do this right now. I’ve seen how everyone looks at you in the group. They all really do love and respect you. They have nothing but respect for you. When you tell them to work hard they will. They cry and laugh with, and for you. They’ll follow you. They’ll always follow you.” Atsuko drew herself back and kindly wiped the tears off the singers face, who’s crying was coming to a halt. A few moments of complete silence passed before Minami spoke up.
“...Thanks, and sorry for causing you trouble” Minami said as a light blush appeared on her face for causing a scene. For Atsuko, she always wanted to be strong, but as the years went by in AKB, she realized that she needed Atsuko as much as Atsuko needed her. They always supported and encouraged one another. It was Atsuko who originally comforted her when she received her Captain role for team A, and now this. All her problems wouldn’t go away, but Atsuko helped bring things to light, to take a bit of the weight from her troubles.
As though she read her mind, Atsuko lightly pushed Minami’s shoulder and patted her on the head. “Our relationship is not one where we hold back, remember. I’ll always be here to bring you back down to earth when you stray away.”
Minami smiled, “Thank you Atsuko”
“Oh right, that reminds me, before I forget” Atsuko said as she took out a couple of cue cards from her purse and began to scan and read. “Let’s see...here we go. Minami’s too stubborn; sometimes she won’t listen to what others have to say.”
Minami widened her eyes in shock. “What...Wait what are you doing?”
Atsuko continued by flipping to card after card. “She’s too serious sometimes. She’s gotta lighten up!”
“She’ll scold anyone who is doing something wrong, not holding back even if it’s the amazing ace Yuko, the beautiful NyanNyan or even Mariko sama.”
Wait...That sounds like something Yuko would say. “Hold on Atsuko! What the heck” Minami grabbed the cue cards and flipped through them. Most of them stated all her bad qualities and some were even teasing. The heck! “She’s too short!” Seriously, who complained about that? Minami looked back up waiting for an explanation.
“Well, when I met with Yuko and the others we wanted to be sure you’d get the message that you’re human in the end, and that you are a great leader, but also a flawed one. So we all decided to write up a couple of things” Atsuko said innocently.
“A couple! There are over 50 cards here” Minami whined as she kept flipping through them and paused as one card read, “I still think you deserved the slap, but as an apology I told your favourite Ace (whose not me by the way) that you told me that you accepted her invitation to moving in with her! Don’t be mad! You know you were going to say “yes” anyway! You can thank me later. <3” Ugh...That Yuko! Wait...So Atsuko believes I said yes...Not like I can take it back now...And this does make it easier than me having to have said yes to her face...
“Earth to Minami. What are you looking at?’ Minami snapped out of her daze as Atsuko was about to reach for the card and quickly moved away, resulting in the scattering of the rest of the cards.
“It’s nothing!!” Minami said defensively. Her eyes widen as she sees the contents of a couple other cards reading:
“Oh, just heard from Yuko, you’re moving in with Atsuko. Congratulations!”
“This may be the only thing that could interfere with your leader work Miss general manager, be sure to focus on AKB even if you’re living together with you precious Atsuko!”
“Seems everyone is writing whatever they want on the cards now...what do I do...Ah, well now that you’ll be living with Atsuko she’ll look out for you, but don’t forget you have all of us too <3”
Minami panicked as Atsuko was about to scan the cards Minami was looking at. She quickly got off the bed and began to pick up as much of the fallen cards as possible. “I got it Atsuko don’t worry! Are the others still here by any chance?”
Atsuko looked quizzically at Minami’s frantic expression, but nonetheless smiled since the leader was being all energetic again. “They’re still downstairs in the lobby”
Minami moved to the door with the cards still gathered up in her hands and looked back to Atsuko one final time before leaving and said, “um...thanks again. Really...Even for the insults haha...For everything. I’ll um, see you later?” the last part came out as sort of a question, and Atsuko laughed.
“Of course. We’ll be seeing a lot of each other soon”
That earned a flustered look from Minami as she lightly bowed then exited the room. Always the shy one she is...I’m glad I could help, even if it’s just a bit. I’m sorry we can’t do more than this for you Minami...but please remember you’re strongest when you’re by the ones who love you.

Atsuko stood and walked around a bit in the room, and she could’ve sworn she heard Yuko and the others shouting. She looked out the window of Minami’s room and saw her chasing Yuko, who was trying to hide behind the others. She laughed and noticed she was stepping on a cue card that Minami must’ve missed when collecting the others. Picking it up, she smiled. The card read:
Make sure you and Atsuko take care of one another!
“Always” Atsuko said as she continued to look out the window and watched the people she loved most.

& ya I tried to be a bit realistic, Minami's problems won't just go away regarding this, so figured someone taking a bit off that burdern and reminding her to just be herself & continue to lead the way she does is the best solution. In the end she still has to put up with it, but hopefully she understands she can't be held accountable for everything :)
& lol well in the fic it's real she'll be moving in with Atsuko, in real life has not be confirmed :P But who knows, the members always change their living arrangments & so might Atsuko lol

Bonus chapter: Moving In
Three weeks had passed since Minami’s incident at the handshake event. She instantly went back to work the next day doing exactly what Atsuko recommended she do. Be herself. She was grateful to her friends for assisting her that day of the incident, because she somehow got herself lost in a matter of minutes, and if she’d stayed like that, she didn’t know if she could’ve handled things the way she always did. In the end, all she could do was what she’d been doing from the beginning. She felt no malice towards the fans or the members, and she’d be ready the next time something like that happened.
On the 2nd week, she, along with some others, spoke to Miichan. Minami understood what to do. It was her responsibility to scold the girl, and she did. However, as a friend and fellow member, she also comforted the young girl and promised everything would be alright eventually. That same week, the first generation members met up in order to cheer Miichan up, and Minami was ecstatic that she could see her closest friends gather, including the ex AKB members, Atsuko and Yukarin.
Now presently, on this 3rd week, Minami was seen lugging boxes back and forth between a huge van and a newly built apartment. A few other members, including Yuko, Haruna, Mariko, Miichan, Yukarin, Tomochin and of course Atsuko were present, also assisting in carrying things back and forth.

“Man how much stuff can two people possibly have?” Yuko complained as she lifted another box from the van and walked alongside Haruna. “Hey, how come you aren’t carrying a box? Every time I come by here to take one, you just walk along with me empty handed” Yuko said dumfounded.
Haruna pretended to be in thought as she placed her finger to her chin, and then innocently looked away. As Marko passed by them to head to the van, she patted Yuko on the head and said, “That’s because every time it’s your turn to carry something Yuko, you end up actually carrying Haruna’s share”
“Eh! NyanNyan that’s cruel! Making me carry twice the amount!” Yuko whined as she heard Mariko laughing behind them.
“Sorry sorry. I was just taking a bit of a break, don’t be mad Yuuchan. Here, let me take this box from you,” Haruna offered as she took the box and turned down the hall to the room.
“Wait a minute...I was already more than half the way to the destination! Haruna you’re cheating! You’re making me go back to get another box!” Yuko had to admit she was astounded at Haruna’s antics. She smiled as she headed back to the van, not really minding the work since she was helping her friends on such a beautiful morning.

“There, that should do it for now,” Minami said as she placed the last box in their apartment. Thankfully it was on the first floor so she and her friends saved time in not having to use an elevator.
“Now all that’s left is the unpacking,” Atsuko cheerfully said.
Minami and the others looked around the largely spaced apartment, and seeing all the boxes, told them they still had a lot of work to do. “Guess we better get started,” Minami said.
Atsuko also realized starting the unpacking would be troublesome, plus she was getting hungry. She saw Yuko and Minami bickering about something in front of her, and then looked behind her to see the others. She smiled at them, her eyes glistening as a thought popped into her head.

One look at Atsuko and Mariko knew what she was planning. Mariko always had a similar look when she got an idea to troll the members. Plus she knew Atsuko had a cute childish side to her.

Atsuko walked up to the little leader, and current ace of AKB while they were still distracted bickering at one another about something irrelevant. “Hey Yuko, Minami,” she called. When she saw she had their attention, she continued, “I’m pretty sure we’re all hungry and thirsty, and since I have my car here, I was thinking me and the others can go grab us some food and drinks.”
“That’s a great idea Acchan,” Minami said, “I’m famished.” Yuko was already practically drooling at the word “food.”
“Right, isn’t it? But we still have a lot of work to do so I’d feel guilty if we all left and then we’d have no motivation to come back and finish. And I really want to finish this as soon as possible so we can move in together,” Atsuko said as she lightly pouted and sighed.
Minami unconsciously let a blush grace her face. Atsuko really wants to move in as soon as possible...Maybe I could stay her and start the unpacking while they bring the food.
As if reading Minami’s mind, Atsuko said, “Do you think you and Yuko could stay here to start unpacking. The rest of us will go to grab some lunch for you”
Wait a minute, I know what Atsuko is trying to do...And Minami is totally eating it up! Geez Leader, why do you always fall for Atsuko’s tricks...But why is she trying to string me along too? I’ve lived with her; I know her acting when I see it. But I guess I can’t leave Minami to do all the unpacking.Yuko let out a sigh. “Fine we’ll start unpacking, but you guys better hurry back.”
“Yah don’t worry about it Atsuko, you guys go grab lunch and we’ll do what we can here,” Minami stated.
“Thank you!” Atsuko gleefully said as she wrapped the two of them in a hug, one girl blushing while the other was silently grumbling at the schemer.

The two left in the apartment got to work. Yuko looked over and saw Minami was happily unpacking their things. She wondered if she should tell the little leader they got played, but honestly, seeing the relaxed look on Minami’s face told Yuko the girl probably wouldn’t have minded. Besides, Minami was probably used to being tricked by Atsuko since the former ace always teased and tricked the girl no matter the situation.
After a few minutes passed, Minami spoke up, “um, Yuko”
“What’s up?” The older stopped what she was doing and looked to Minami.
“I never really thanked you for what you did and said...so um, thanks.” Minami said as she looked to Yuko and let out a smile.
“Oh you mean for telling Atsuko you accepted the invitation to move in, no problem! I knew it’d take you forever to accept, so I sped up the process” Yuko dodged the flying pillow Minami threw.
“Not that! I mean for...When you slapped me back in the hospital, and told me that I wasn’t seeing what was in front of me...You were right. I didn’t get it at first, but I know you were trying to tell me that I wasn’t alone. You were all right there trying to help me, and I completely neglected that. I’m sorry...and thanks” the leader sheepishly said. She wasn’t usually a shy one when it came to expressing her feelings, but the whole hospital situation was awkward so she didn’t know how to bring it up again. But she was really thankful for Yuko, and she wanted the older girl to know that.
While Minami was looking at the floor, she failed to see Yuko threw back the pillow and it smacked her on the face. “Ow! What was that!?”
“Sorry, you were getting too serious there for a moment,” the actress laughed at the younger girls pout. “You don’t have to thank me for something like that. It’s only natural; we all look out for one another right? You’ve helped me in the past to, and these kinds of things don’t require thanks...But you’re welcome...and thanks”
Minami let a small smile grace her face. She honestly didn’t know what she’d do without the members. Plus, she truly was thankful for the girl sitting across her. Yuko always did her best to help her, and when Atsuko graduated, that intensified. Yuko supported her, teased her and comforted her. That’s why Minami really wanted to thank her.
Yuko, choosing this moment as another opportunity to tease the younger girl said, “hey Minami, why don’t you move in with, you love me too right!?” Yuko flashed her fangs in a grin.
Minami could see where this was going, knowing the older girl was having fun, and smiled, “sorry Yuko, as much as I love you I’m taken.”
“Oh, by who exactly?” Yuko and Minami turned to see Atsuko and the others back with food standing outside the open doorway.

Minami was a flustred mess. How long were they there, did she hear what I said to Yuko! I mean it’s not strange since she knows I love her and the others but did I really say “I was taken.” Oh great, me being quiet is making this more hard to say something.
Yuko decided to save the leader since she did get her into this mess...Well more like further tease rather than save. “I offered her room with me but she rejected me. Isn’t that cruel”
“Well of course she would, she’s my roommate now,” Atsuko said as she walked over to Minami and wrapped her arms around the older girls neck from behind and rested her chin on her shoulder. I’ll tease her about saying, “I’m taken” later.
“You two really know how to break a girl’s heart. First Atsuko moves out of our place and them Minami refuses to move in with me. Well it’s fine, you two are better off together” Yuko concluded as she sat up and attacked Miichan and Haruna who brought the food.
“You’re not mad are you?” Atsuko asked still clinging to Minami while the others were trying to get Yuko under control with the food.
“You mean for ditching me and Yuko here while you guys were out to eat and slack off,” Minami smiled. She figured out their plan a bit after they left, but she honestly wasn’t mad. “I’m not, don’t worry. You actually gave me a chance to talk to Yuko which I needed to do”
“I’m glad.” Atsuko smiled, knowing the singer had been meaning to get something off her chest that concerned Yuko...Plus she also did want to tease the girl so she killed two birds with one stone.
“But since you’re all back, you guys better put in 100% into helping us finish!” Minami said out loud, reverting to her leader mode. Everyone groaned knowing she’d work them to the bone.
Yukarin sighed nostalgically and said, “How the years go by, Minami chan was such a shy little kid. I remember when she asked me to marry her and here she is now going to be living with Acchan”
Minami blushed, wondering why she would bring that up. She felt Atsuko’s hands beginning to loosen around her neck. Wait is she pulling away. She can’t be mad right. That was long ago and she was there recording the moment!
“I know what you mean” Haruna said. “All those times Minami said she loved me on Team A stage shows, and when she even said she wanted to marry me...and here she is now”
What are they doing!? Minami wondered as she felt Atsuko loosen her grip even more.
“Ah you’re right” Miichan began. “I still remember the days when Minami called Rina a goddess. She really loved her”
“Wow Minami you really like older girls huh,” Yuko said deciding to join in.
Atsuko completely let go of Minami and the shorter girl was getting nervous.
“Well she also did let Tomochin give her a kiss on the cheek and was completely flustered.” Mariko added.
“Well she also really loves Yui and expresses her admiration for her all the time” Tomochin spoke up.
"And when Milky asked Minami to say "i love you" Minami said it to her so seriously. Such a nice senpai" Miichan added.
“Guess our Minami is really popular. And here she is now settling in with Atsuko” Yuko gave the final blow.

Minami was afraid to look back to see Atsuko’s expression. She knew they were all teasing and probably trying to get out of doing work again but...but, with stating all those points they did she wouldn’t be surprised if Atsuko was annoyed at her.
“So what, I was your last pick or something” Atsuko chimed in.
There it is!! I knew it! “Um, you know that’s not the case Atsuko! I mean...I well, um...” She looked around at everyone’s smirking faces. You traitors! The only way to fix this for now was to play into their trap. ”Ah, you know Atsuko, I’ll finish unpacking for the day, why don’t you and the others go shopping for some supplies we’ll need” Minami said nervously.
“I think we’ll take you up on that offer. Come on everyone, let’s leave Minami to do her work’ Atsuko said as she walked out the room.
“Good luck leader, call us if you need anything” Yuko said.
“Sorry Minami, it had to be done, we’ll pay you back another time” Haruna said.
“Don’t worry about Atsuko, she’ll cool off, she’s just teasing” Tomochin added.
“Do you best Minami chan” Yukarin said.
“We’ll bring Atsuko back home before it gets late, no worries leader” Mariko said as they all left.
Minami turned and looked at the room. I have to stop getting myself into these messes.

Lol at the two midgets beiing played by the ever-teasingly Atsuko. But Takamina owe a thank you to Yuko so that opens up an opportunity for them to make up with each other.
May be you should write another bonus where Atsuko interrogating Takamina about all of those marriage proposals and love proclaiming that she did to other girls. Jealous Acchan is always welcomed, that I'm sure about. But Acchan need not worry because her biggest rival was Rina but now...well...Let's just say she's not in any. danger of having Takaming snatched away by another girl. Yuko and Mariko should probably butt in and ask Takamina if she likes them too since Yuko said Takamina seems to like older girls :lol: just to make Acchan more jealous you know 8)

Too bad Yukarin rejected her whereas Haruna already has Yuko XD. Even though she declared her love for those 3 women, who are all similar in one way or another with age being one of the factor, she went ahead and hug Acchan like a boyfriend :lol: (Tokyo dome, said by Lovetan). Like the saying goes, "you never end up with the person you dream of". I wonder why she isn't attracted to Mariko since Mariko is also another gorgeous woman.

cisda83: Not sure if it was them who decided to sing together or if that was assigned by managment or something. Either way ya these two are close. & there are a couple people who like "Takaharu" but for me it's more "friendly" and teasing of a relationship. Minami acting like a middle school boy around Haruna and Haruna always rejecting her, it's kind of tradition lol. & you're welcome :)

Okay...So since some requested Atsumina, I thought my 2nd fic will be a continuation to my 1st. So this story takes place right after my BONUS chapter to Leaders Responsibility to take Blame, where Atsuko and Minami moved in together. So for those who haven't read the bonus chapter, feel free to lol, it just explains them moving in together after the incident of the handshake event.
So i wrote the first chapter, let me know what you think and if it's something you guys would like me to continue :)

Chapter one, saying "yes"
Atsuko returned home around 9pm after purchasing all the needed supplies with the other members. She smiled at the thought, that this was her and Minami’s home from now on. Unlocking the door and stepping inside, she saw that almost all the unpacking was finished, and Minami had done a great job in organizing everything.
The actress walked around their apartment. It was indeed large; they had a nice modern kitchen, a living room, a washroom, two bedrooms and a guest room. It was a great space, and tomorrow her mother would be dropping off one of her pets to live with her, and Minami’s Nyaa chan as well. Speaking of Minami, where is she? The girl walked into the living room and saw the little leader sprawled out, sleeping on the couch. She smiled, knowing Minami had put in a lot of hard work today. Atsuko grabbed a nearby blanket and placed it over the sleeping girl. “I’m home,” she whispered with a content smile on her face. She looked around their place and decided to finish off the rest of the organizing.

Minami drowsily awoke when she felt something wet licking her face. Shocked, she rolled off the couch and fell on the floor, where she became a victim to more face licking by the energetic offender. “Atsuko, please get Cocoa off me!”
Atsuko walked into the room and laughed at the site of her dog pinning Minami to the floor and practically drooling on her. “Aw, she’s just happy to see you.”
Minami gently pushed the dog off and got up wiping her face. “Yah, well I missed her too but that’s not exactly how I like being awoken in the morning,” she said as she felt something tugging at the end of her pyjamas. She looked down and saw Nyaa chan. “Eh, Nyaa chan is here too. Wait. How did they get here?” she asked as she pet both Nyaa chan and Cocoa.
“Remember, I told you my mother would drop them off in the morning. She came by about an hour ago. It’s already afternoon” Atsuko said as she set up the dinner table with breakfast. “You kind of slept through the morning and I didn’t want to wake you since you don’t have work till later this evening anyway. Now go wash up and come eat”
Minami had to remind herself that yesterday they moved everything into their apartment and had spent their official first night in their new home. She walked to the washroom; noticing Atsuko finished the unpacking and washed up before coming back out. “The place looks great! Thanks for finishing things up Atsuko,” Minami said as she grabbed two bowls from Atsuko and placed them on the floor for their pets, while they sat down on the dining table to eat.
“It was the least I could do. Sorry for leaving you to do most of the work yesterday. I didn’t actually thing you’d do this much” she said guiltily.
“Ah, don’t worry about that. Everything worked out in the end. I’m just glad everything is done. I can’t believe we’re actually living here now. Just the two of us” Minami said as she felt a strong tug on the bottom of her pyjamas. “Oh sorry Cocoa, you and Nyaa chan too of course,” Minami smiled as she gave the dog some bread.
Atsuko smiled at the sight but scolded Minami, “Don’t spoil her now.”
“Hai,” Minami cheerfully complied as she continued eating her breakfast. Wow I feel so relaxed. It’s been awhile since I’ve lived with others. It’s nice. Plus now I get to see Atsuko more often, which is nice since I don’t see her in AKB anymore.
Atsuko watched Minami scarf down her breakfast happily, and decided to ask, “Ne, what made you decide to finally accept my offer to live together?”
Minami mentally and physically chocked on her food. Seriously, why is she even asking?
“I mean this was something I offered about 3 months ago, and I know you said you’d think about it, but honestly I thought you may have either forgotten, or not wanted to move in with me” Atsuko expressed with a pained expression.
Minami thought, 3 months, had it really been that long? I don’t even know how to answer; I definitely can’t tell her it was technically Yuko who accepted the offer for me.
Atsuko wasn’t sure how to take Minami’s silence so far. She was truly worried the other girl may not have wanted to move in with her. She’s thrown out this offer over the years, but Minami had seemed content with living on her own. However, when Atsuko moved in with Yuko, she ended up moving away from Minami since they had practically lived across each other, and she found herself missing the girl.
Minami finally spoke up, trying to sound casual, “well you know, things have been busy in AKB and all”
Atsuko raised an eyebrow, “too busy to make a phone call or send a text?” she didn’t mean to sound irritated, but hearing such a half-hearted reply annoyed her.
The smaller girl froze up for a second as she heard the irritation in the actresses’ voice. “What? No. I mean I was thinking about it but a lot was going so I thought about a lot of things, and I just wanted to make sure I was making the right choice if I decided to accept your offer.”
“Right choice? If, you decided?” Atsuko felt like the older girl was holding a lot of things back. Why can’t she just straightforwardly answer my question?
On the other hand, Minami felt like she was saying all the wrong things and was slightly panicking. Damn, what am I doing? Just answer her question Takahashi. But, I don’t know how, I can’t tell her why I was worried to accept it...Those worries are still there...Oh man, those worries are still there. What am I doing? I shouldn’t have said “yes” but I wanted to, but it shouldn’t be what I wanted. I wasn’t supposed to factor my feelings into this.
”Why aren’t you saying anything?” Atsuko asked.
“Damn it Yuko, why’d you say “yes” for me”
Minami realized her mistake the instant those words left her mouth. She’d accidently said her thoughts out loud due to her confusion. Hearing Atsuko question her out loud while she was thinking, somehow made her utter those words that were meant to stay in her mind.
Minami looked up, panicked. Atsuko wore a calm expression, but her eyes seemed glazed over. “Yuko? What do you mean Minami?” Atsuko questioned.
Minami remained quiet, not trusting herself to speak.
“Do you mean she answered for you after you already decided ‘yes’, or that she just answered ‘yes’ without your knowledge? Ne, Answer me”
As Atsuko slightly raised her voice, Minami for a split second considered telling her that Yuko just answered for her what she wanted. That'd resolve everyting... but...she knew lying wouldn’t be right. She couldn’t lie to Atsuko. Yes, deep down she wanted to live with Atsuko, she wanted to say ‘yes” to her offer, so when she found out what Yuko had done, she thought it’d be okay. However, Minami knew it wasn’t that simply... Because if Yuko hadn’t done what she’d done...
Minami would’ve said ‘no’
And as always, Atsuko could almost read Minami’s thoughts, and she already had the answer to her question.
Minami also knew that. The two just saw their silently, not knowing what to say.
How? How are things going so wrong already? Is this my punishment?

Well that was end of chapter one. Let me know what you think if it's worth continuing lol. This will probably end up being short like the prequel, maybe around 3-5 chapters.

Hmm I wonder why Takamina would have answered "no" if she was the one answering to Atsuko's offer. What worries does she have? You know that could have been the reason Atsuko moved out in real life, because it took Takamina so long to give her the answer. The fact that she moved next to Takamina's apartment the moment she started living on her own says something, right?

Chapter 2, “lies”
Could silence be suffocating? Because that’s how Minami felt at the moment. She wanted to look up at Atsuko, to see the girls’ expression, but even if she did, what would she do? All it took was that one thought in between their conversation to bring back all of Minami’s worries to the surface. If she couldn’t even resolve what was going on in her head, what could she possibly say to Atsuko? Fix it. Just fix it somehow! She mentally scolded herself.
Minami heard Atsuko’s chair shuffle from under the table and the actress stood, preparing to leave. That snapped her out of her thoughts; she looked up and saw the pained expression on the actresses’ face, an expression she never wanted to be the cause of. ”Wait!?” She’d reached out to grab the younger girl’s wrist before she could retreat.
Atsuko calmly but coldly looked to the girl who had stood up from her seat and grabbed her wrist, “if you didn’t want to live with me, you should’ve just said so. I wasn’t forcing you to say yes, and I wouldn’t want you to do something you don’t want.” Atsuko was also confused. She didn’t know whether to be angry or sad or disappointed. Maybe all? Why bring this up now, just as we moved in. How long do you think I waited for an answer? Do you know how much it hurts that you weren’t even the one to say “yes” to the offer? Atsuko thought.
Minami saw the tears threatening to fall from the actresses face and could feel she was trying to pull away, most likely refusing to show tears. “Wait Atsuko, please” she gently said, though still panicking. Atsuko stopped struggling and waited.
“I’m sorry okay. I...I should’ve told you about Yuko accepting the offer for me without my prior knowledge. I should’ve been honest...It’s just that...” ...I was happy. That Yuko did for me what I couldn’t. So happy that I forgot the whole reason for avoiding giving you an answer. “It's just not a good idea... I wasn’t really thinking” No! That’s not what I wanted to say...was it? It’s for the best right? This is what she’d been trying to summon up the courage to do.
Atsuko, realizing the girl was having an inner turmoil with herself, pulled her hand free of Minami’s. Wasn’t thinking?! “Minami, do you want to live with me or not. It’s a simple question that requires a simple answer” Atsuko tried to remain calm, but her sadness was slowly building into frustration and anger.
“I...its complicated” the older girl murmured.
“It’s really not. Yes, or no?” The actress retorted.
Minami was on the verge of asking for time to think about it, but she knew how selfish that’d sound, especially after already making the former ace wait for so long. Besides, she already had her answer didn’t she, one she thought about for a long time? She summoned all her strength to look Atsuko in the eyes, and said, “No.”
A loud smack rang out as Atsuko’s hand connected to the side of Minami’s face. The older girl didn’t know how to react. She’d never been slapped by Atsuko, though she admits she deserved it. Seeing the hurt, anger and tears in Atsuko’s eyes made Minami want to hit herself too. “I don’t know what game you’re playing at, but you could’ve just told me that before we actually moved in” the younger girl wiped at her tears and attempted to collect herself. “If you hated the thought of moving in with me that much, you should’ve just said something.”
To Atsuko’s comment, Minami instantly replied. “I’m sorry. I know I’m an idiot, and I deserved that slap, and I know I just caused trouble by having us move in, but...But I don’t hate you Atsuko! You know I don’t!” Minami was almost becoming frantic; she couldn’t stand the thought of having the younger girl think she hated her.
After a moment of silence, Atsuko answered, “I know. You just hate the idea of living with me...it’s fine; we’ll figure something out about the living arrangements and then pretend this never happened, okay” She gave a small smile that didn’t reach her eyes, but she was trying, and that killed Minami. Atsuko walked over to a desk and picked up a collar, then walked over to her dog. “I need to take Cocoa for a walk. Can you please clean up the dining table?”
“Uh yah, of course. Be careful,” Minami said as the other girl nodded and wore her coat, put on her shoes and left through the front door with her dog in tow.

As soon as the door closed shut, Minami sank to the floor, and all the tears she’d been holding back poured out. She began to slightly sob uncontrollably, furiously wiping away the tears that kept flowing regardless.
“What...what’s wrong with me?” she choked out in between sobs. She felt like she really screwed things up. She was to blame for this. Her inability to put her feelings into words, to express them, her inability to resolve her troubling thoughts, to speak the truth. She’d caused this. Atsuko had said, it was okay, that they could pretend none of this happened. But Minami knew she’d somehow put a strain on their relationship.
Yes, I can’t stand the thought of having her think I hated her...But I can’t stand it even more if she hated me...
Minami felt Nyaa chan meow and climb on her lap, and then jump on her shoulder. The cat began licking away the girls’ tears. Minami tried to get her crying under control, and gently petted the cat. “It’s my punishment Nyaa chan, for thinking things would stay the same if I just ignored it. It’s my punishment for feeling the way I feel about and around her. I really am an idiot aren’t I?” she confessed to her cat, which meowed in response. “I’ll pretend that was a ‘no’” The leader lifted herself off the floor and collected all the plates began washing them as she drifted back into thought.
It was for the best right? For Atsuko’s sake. So why can’t I let go of these selfish feelings. What do I do from here? She’ll be oaky without me, but without her...I’ll be lost. Maybe...I hate this...I hate feeling like this.
Minami shook her head as though that would clear all her thoughts and worries. No, this is the right decision. It doesn’t matter how I feel. I need to focus on my responsibilities, on AKB, and I have to let Atsuko focus on her dream. I’m doing the right thing, I’m doing the right thing, I’m doing the right thing. She repeated in a mantra, hoping to convince herself.

Atsuko was sitting on a bench in a small park watching Cocoa chase around some birds. She didn’t want to be mad at Minami, she was sure the older girl had her reasons, but it was still no excuse for what she’d done. All Atsuko ever wanted was for the singer to be honest with her, that’s all they ever asked of each other. They were supposed to shoulder each others burdens, and yet Minami seemed to be unconsciously pulling away for reasons Atsuko didn’t understand.
She wanted to be with AKBs leader, was that so wrong? She wasn’t forcing Minami to say ‘yes’ was she? It hurt when the girl said she didn’t want to live with her, and Atsuko is trying her best not to be a angered. That’s why she took this walk, to cool off before she did or said something she’d regret. She’d do her best to let things go back to normal between them, because she didn’t want to burden the little leader, who already had so much on her plate. At the same time though, she knew things couldn’t go back to the way they were.
The actress let out a sigh. “You really are an idiot Minami, but I don’t want to hate you, though I may start to hate you for making me feel like this...Who am I kidding...” she stood up and stretched, walking slowly over to her dog. She’s made her choice, I won’t push her. What’s done is done, no reason to keep worrying about it.
Then again, Atsuko couldn’t help but slightly worry.

Yuko was at a team K practice in the AKB theatre. Everyone was taking a quick break and the captain and ace was conversing with Kitarie. Sayaka walked over to them and held out Yuko’s cellphone. “It kept ringing when I went to the change room and figured it may be important so brought it up. It’s okay as long as you put it away before we resume” Sayaka smiled.
“Thanks,” Yuko said as she excused herself from Rie and opened her phone. She saw she had a text message Atsuko, and when she opened it, she was surprised by the contents inside.
Hey Yuko, I know you’re at practice, sorry.
I hope you didn’t already give up my room
To someone else! I’ll be moving back in if
That’s okay with you. Please call me when
You can so we can work things out. – Atsuko.
“What?” Yuko said disbelieving. Huh. Hold on, what’s happening. Atsuko just moved in with Takamina. What the hell could’ve possibly happened in not even a matter of a full day living together? Yuko saw there was still time before practice, so she quickly went off to a corner and dialled a number.
“Hello” a voice on the other end answered.
“Mariko, hey! Are you busy?’
“No, not until later this evening, Team A has the theatre booked after you guys”
“Has Takamina contacted you by any chance?” she decided to ask.
“Minami? No, why? Is everything okay?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think so...” Yuko told Mariko what Atsuko had texted her.
“...Maybe they just got into a little quarrel, you know how those two are, and I’d be surprised if they didn’t clash from time to time.”
“Mariko, she texted ‘moving back in’ not ‘staying over.’”
“...Okay. I’ll try to find out what’s going on when I see Minami later today. What are you going to do?”
“Hide until everything blows over”
“Yuko...” Mariko sounded disapproving.
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Well I can’t exactly say no to Atsuko if she wants to move back in, but I’ll talk to her and see what’s up.”
“Okay, good luck”
“You too”
They both hung up, and Yuko returned to the stage. Honestly, what are those two doing?

The only reason I could think in respond to Takamina's rejection to living with Atsuko is that she thought if they lived together, it would get in the way of their career? As in they'd be so happy living together that they forgot they still have their career to pursue.

Chapter 3 as promised!! I kind of went on a writing spree and already wrote 4 and 5 (which is the final) but I won't post them all at the same time so i don't overwhelm you all with too much reading :P
So enjoy this chapter! A few things are revealed but chapter 4 is where we learn Minami's reasoning :)

Chapter 3 – The Actions of a Friend
Minami was lying on the couch, staring at the black screen of the TV. They hadn’t hooked it up yet and she didn’t really feel like watching anything anyway. She’d received a text from Atsuko stating that she’d be heading back to Yuko and Harugon’s place, and thus Minami shouldn’t worry. She was glad the younger girl notified her, since she’d been worrying considering Atsuko was out for a walk with her dog for over three hours.
Nyaa chan jumped on the couch and cuddled against her owner. “Well...She’s still talking to me...technically, so that’s a good sign, right Nyaa chan?” Except she didn’t really mention if she’d be staying permanently at Yuko’s...What am I saying. Of course she is. You told her you didn’t want to live with her, remember Takahashi! The leader let out a sigh. She’d also have to figure out her living arrangements. For now, she’d have to stay in this house since moving back into her old apartment was impossible, and not like she can just ditch this house after finding a new place. The moving process would take time. Great, so I’m stuck in a place that’ll be a constant reminder of how I messed up. Instead of worrying whether or when the actress would return for her things, Minami decided she’d head over to the AKB theatre. There was still a few hours hours until Team A’s slotted practice time, but she figured she could hang with some of the team K members and watch them for the time they had remaining.

Yuko and the rest of Team K still had two hours of practice left, and were on their second short 15 minute break. Sayaka walked up to the ace and again held out Yuko’s cell phone. “You’re very popular today captain” she teased.
Yuko inwardly groaned. “I wish I wasn’t,” she said as she grabbed her phone. Really what is it now? When she opened her phone, she saw a text message from Minami:
Hey. I have some free time and am planning to come by the theatre. I hope it’s okay with you team captain! – Minami
Ah! She’s coming here. Seriously leader you don’t know how to spend your time off. Yuko sighed and replied back informing the younger girl it was okay.

Minami entered the theatre as team K was practicing one of their stage songs. She decided to take a seat in the middle row and watched. Watching them perform sent electricity through the leader. She loved the stage more than anything, and seeing her fellow members perform, she felt like jumping on the stage herself to release all her energy. Ah, now I’m eager to perform with team A.
After the song ended, the member all greeted Minami then went back to work. Yuko instructed them on something then jumped down the stage and headed towards the leader. “You really should learn how to enjoy your time off” Yuko said, grabbing a seat beside her short companion.
“I am. I had plenty of fun watching you guys perform. Seriously that was great Yuko. Team K is as amazing as always!”
Yuko could practically see the excitement and energy in their leader’s eyes. She knew how the young girl got about stage shows and found herself smiling at Minami’s honesty and energy. “Well what do you expect; the amazing Oshima Yuko is leading them!”
Sayaka who walked by and overheard stated, “The amazing Oshima Yuko forgot there was even a team K practice today, and I had to remind her.”
“Hey! I would’ve remembered myself!” she shot back defensively as Sayaka laughed and walked back to the stage.
Yuko looked back and saw Minami watching the younger members practicing the dance steps with a smile on her face. She wondered whether to bring up the issue with Atsuko or not....After a few minutes of silence, Minami was the one to break it.
“...Hey um, so I heard Atsuko was going to be staying at you place”
“Huh? Oh yah. She sent me a text earlier letting me know, but I still haven’t called or seen her...” Staying? Did Atsuko tell Minami she’d be ‘staying’ at my place? She texted me 'moving back'
“I see. Well here.” Minami said as she picked up a plastic bag off the floor and placed it on the seat”
“What’s this?” Oh yah, I saw her come in the theatre with this.
“When Atsuko left and texted, I figured she already went straight to your house. She didn’t come back to get her stuff so I wanted to make sure she’d have some of her things for the night at least. I put her toothbrush in here and her favourite pyjamas. Also I brought Cocoa’s food and bowl. Oh, I also grabbed a few movies from her favourite collection since she likes to watch them late at night...”
As the little leader spoke, Yuko watched with interest. Minami had that loving protective look on her face like she usually has as she listed all the things she brought for Atsuko. Are these two seriously in a fight? Yuko didn’t realize she drifted into thought until Minami kept waving a hand in her face. “Huh what!? Oh right. Yah I’ll take this with me when I go home.”
“Thanks. If she’d like she can come for other things she wants tomorrow. I’ll be at a photo shoot for the morning so she won’t have to see me.” She said with a slight frown.
“Hey hold it. Don’t go giving up like that. If you offer her to pick up all her things she’ll really move out for good. Besides, I’m sure whatever you guys are fighting about will blow over and she’ll want to move back in with you,” the ace said trying to reassure the leader. However, what Minami said next surprised her.
“...Yuko. I’m the one who told Atsuko I can’t live with her.”

Their conversation ended there. Yuko sat shocked for a bit and then was called back to practice before she could say anything. And now, Team K’s practice was over and the Team A members came pouring in a bit early. She wanted to talk to Minami, but figured she’d leave it for another day. For now she’d go back home to consult Atsuko. Yuko remembered to grab the bag Minami left, and before heading out she ran up to Mariko and whispered to her what she knew. She and the older girl decided to not confront the leader any further today.

When Yuko arrived home, she found Atsuko watching some TV with Cocoa by her side. “Hey, I’m home. Where’s Harugon?”
“Welcome home. Harugon is still at work I believe.” The actress answered, eyes still transfixed on the screen.
“Huh. How’d you get in then? I thought Harugon was home?”
“I still have the keys to the house”
“...Atsuko, when you move to a new place you’re not supposed to have the keys to your old place still. Not that I don’t love you and you’re always welcome of course”
“Well I didn’t have a chance to give it back to you. I was planning to today...But...” the young actress trailed off and Yuko saw her eyes glaze over in thought, but snapped back a second later. “You know there’s not one single good movie on TV!” she said, clearly trying to change the subject as she kept flipping through the TV.
Yuko remembers what she was holding in her hand. She reached in the bag and pulled out a couple of movies. “Here, I’m guessing these better suit your taste,” she said, handing them over to the young girl who now held a stunned expression.
“Where did you...Did you go to ou...” Atsuko caught herself...unsure what to call ‘that’ place. ‘Hers? Minami’s? Theirs? No ones?’
Yuko jumped in and explained. “Minami came by the theatre earlier and gave me all this,” she handed the bag over to Atsuko who looked into it with slight shock and...Was that happiness? “She was worried you know. That you left without any of your necessities. And you know how the leader gets when she’s worried” after Yuko spoke, she saw the small smile more apparent on the young girls face, as though she was recalling fond memories.
“Yah. She does worry easily doesn’t she?”
“Yes she does, and so do you, and now you two are making me worried.” The current ace sighed as she sat on the couch beside Atsuko, shooing away Cocoa from her place. The dog jumped off and appeared to have glared at her. “Easy pooch, my house my rules”
Atsuko lightly laughed as Yuko bickered with her dog, but turned serious when Yuko faced her.
“Look, I don’t know what happened with you and Minami but...”
“She said she doesn’t want to live me. It’s as simple as that” Atsuko interjected.
Okay. That much I knew I guess. “She probably didn’t mean it. She’s most likely over thinking things and said that.” Yuko tried to reason.
“...She meant it. Next to her bluntly stating it, I could tell it was something she thought about, and honestly meant it when she said she didn’t want to live me with me.” Atsuko replied as she gazed stubbornly at the TV screen.
These stubborn kids will be the death of me. “Atsuko. Look, I can’t speak on behalf of Minami’s feelings but she...she really cares about you. She was also really excited at the thought of moving in with you. She wants to live with you. I’m sure of it...I just don’t know why she’d say otherwise...”
“The only reason she moved in was probably because she felt bad since I thought the reply came from her...”
Oh crap I forgot about that part. “...Atsuko I’m sorry. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have accepted in her place”
The young girl let out a sigh this time and said, “It’s not your fault Yuko. I admit for a second I was mad but...Minami made her own choices. There’s nothing I can do about that”
“Listen, I know I accepted for Minami, but that’s because I knew she herself wanted to say yes. She just needed a push.”
“Well clearly it’s not. She just did it since she believed I already thought she’d said yes and probably felt bad to tell me otherwise.”
Yuko grabbed the TV remote from Atsuko’s hand and turned off the TV so that the younger girl was now looking at her. “Do you seriously think that’s what Minami would do? You know as well as I do that it’s not. She would’ve told you on the spot that I’d lied to you and that she didn’t want to live with you but she didn’t. Do you know why? Because she wanted to say yes. I don’t know what’s holding her back...though I may have an idea...but whatever it was, she probably forgot about in that moment with you at the hospital. She wanted to move in with you Atsuko. She’s not so irresponsible that she’d accept that offer while in a clear state of mind and then just reject it the next few days after all the preparations were already made. But apparently she is irresponsible enough to let her emotions cloud her judgment at times, and after realizing that, she decided to reject your offer.”
Yuko knew she was rambling, but she was afraid if she stopped, Atsuko would lose interest or refuse to listen anymore. Yuko had to get through to her. She knew the young actress still cared, regardless of what she said, otherwise she wouldn’t have told Minami she’d only be ‘staying’ at Yuko’s. Maybe Atsuko hadn’t realized that herself, but Yuko knew it meant that the young girl was hoping to return to Minami’s side.
“Minami cares about you!” she repeated. “She always has and always will. She’s always talking about you in the group, somehow always bringing up your name in a conversation or interview. She misses you, but she gets so proud and happy when she sees you perform on TV and always relaxes when she sees you smiling, and when you’re having fun. She’s doing her best for AKB and the younger members in order to make you, and other proud of AKB, of the AKB you were once a part of. She always has you in mind! She...”
“Stop it!” Atsuko yelled, cutting off whatever Yuko was about to say. Yuko thought she may have said too much and feared she’d made the younger girl mad. However, she realized the actress had tears streaming down her face and...oh wait, there’s the anger I feared.
“I know! You think I don’t know! Talking to me as if I don’t understand Minami! I know her best! I know she cares about me and that she’s trying her best. I know she has worries too but...It’s frustrating. For once in my life I didn’t know what she was thinking or feeling. How am I supposed to understand if she doesn’t talk to me...when she so bluntly just rejects living with me? I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what she was thinking and that...It scared me... so I left.” Atsuko grew calmer with each word as she tried to control her tears.
Yuko was taken aback by the outburst. Wait. So is Atsuko even mad at her, or mad at the fact she doesn’t understand what’s going on with Minami...If that’s the case, then these two idiots aren’t even technically mad at each other. Can this even be called a fight!? I swear I’ve never met more stubborn and impossible to understand people than these two...But if this is how Atsuko feels, then things should be okay once she realizes how Minami feels. Right? I’m sure of Minami’s feelings, we just have to get her to explain her actions and be honest.
“I don’t think it’s that Minami doesn’t want to be honest with you Atsuko, I think it’s that maybe she can’t. She may not be able to tell you her worries, but nothing is stopping me and the others from finding out... I have a plan, and if you’re willing to give our dork leader a chance, then I’ll let you in on it.” Yuko said with a smile branding her face.
Atsuko had stopped her crying and without hesitation she nodded. She wanted to know what Minami was worried about and what her reasons were. She didn’t want to give up. Minami’s not the only one who can be stubborn.

Yuko saw the determination in the young girl’s eyes and nodded back. She grabbed her cell phone, and in answer to Atsuko’s questioning glance, she said, “when it comes to Minami, it seems calling for backup is always needed. You were our secret weapon last time, now let us handle this in your place this time,” she smirked and made her calls.

Chapter 4 – Revelation
A certain leader had rushed towards the AKB theatre early in the afternoon. After teams A’s practice last night, she’d gone home and awoke the next day in order to attend her solo photo shoot. There, after she was finished, she’d received a text from Mariko telling her there was an emergency and that she was needed at the theatre.
However, Minami was now in a state of confusion. Here she was at the theatre, trying to catch her breath, being surrounded by her closest friends. And there didn’t seem to be any emergency in sight. The leader looked around at all the present figures. Mariko, Haruna, Tomochin, Miichan, and Yuko. After collecting herself, Minami turned to the eldest in the room. “Mariko sama, I thought you said there was an emergency...” she said, becoming sceptical of this whole situation.
“Well technically there is an emergency. You see, our idiotic leader still seems to be keeping things to herself and she’s causing her friends to worry.” Mariko answered.
Dumbfounded, Minami just stared at them all for a bit. “I’m not keeping anything from you all regarding AKB. I’m getting proper rest, not letting fans get to me, and my stress level is pretty down,” she calmly answered.
Everyone exchanged glances and Yuko then stepped up. “That’s great to hear, but that’s not what we’re talking about. We mean what’s going on between you and Atsuko.”
Minami inwardly cringed when she heard the reason for her presence here. “There’s nothing going on between us. Everything is fine.”
“Oh don’t give us that. We know everything isn’t fine. We know what happened between you and Atsuko.” Miichan stepped in and said.
The leader held her ground. “It’s nothing monumental. I just didn’t think we should live together that’s all. So what?” she said defensively.
“Yes, but why? We figured you’d be happy to be able to live with Atsuko. Both of you would.” Haruna worriedly spoke up.
“It’s just strange Minami. First you’re all excited about the move, and then we hear you suddenly told Atsuko that you didn’t want to live with her. What’s up with that?” Yuko asked.
“You’re the one who accepted for me!” Minami slightly raised her voice as she grew frustrated. What is? Why are they doing this? This isn’t their business.
“And I’m sorry about that, okay. But I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think that’s what you wanted. Besides, if you really didn’t want to, why did you not tell her right away in the hospital room? You could’ve. Or were you too happy that you forgot the reason you didn’t want to move in with her in the first place.” The ace challenged.
Minami didn’t know what to say to that. Instead of answering, she protested, “this is pointless. First, I have no obligation to share all my thoughts and feelings with you. I agreed to let you guys help me lessen the burden as a leader, but my private affairs are mine to worry about. I appreciate the concern but everything is fine. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be going home.” Minami turned and made her way to the door; however she saw Miichan and Haruna run past her and block the door. “You’ve got to be kidding.” Now she was literally surrounded by the members in the middle of the theatre.
“No, you don’t have any obligation to share your thoughts and feelings. However, as your friends and teammates, we have an obligation to make sure you don’t go doing stupid things and look out for you” Tomochin sternly said.
“Let’s just put it this way Minami. We’re not leaving here until you tell us what’s going on. And if you do manage to leave, then we’ll just keep on doing this until you tell us what’s up. Each and every day we’ll bring up the subject. We see a lot of each other so don’t think I’m bluffing.” Yuko half-heartedly threatened with a smile on her face.
When the leader still remained silent, Yuko spoke up again. “Atsuko’s not mad at you yah know.” That grabbed the leader’s attention. “I talked to her, and she hasn’t given up. She still wants to live with you.”
“Huh, what are you talking about? Of course she’s mad...there’s no way she’d still give me a chance after what I did...” Minami said dejectedly.
“She’s not mad” Yuko repeated firmly. “At least not at you. She’s mad at herself. She’s mad that she doesn’t understand your feelings, and that you don’t trust her enough to be honest with her like always. Not understanding you, is new to her, so she was scared. That’s why she left.”
Minami was taken aback by this. Atsuko’s mad at herself? But it’s not her fault? I don’t want to make her feel like that!
“Plus...” Yuko continued. She told you she’d be ‘staying’ at my place right, not ‘moving back in’ that was practically an invitation. She still believed there was a chance you two could work things out.”
“The way I see it, you have two options. You can tell us what’s on your mind and the reasoning for you actions. That way things can be resolved. Or you can keep it bottled up and continue to push the people you love away from you. Atsuko is hurt you know. Didn’t you say you’d always protect her” Mariko lightly scolded.
Minami clenched her hands as they shook. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally decided to speak up. Her voice began to crack as she talked. “It’s not fair! I feel like I’ll lose either way then! I am...! I am protecting her...That’s why I’m doing this...For her sake...and AKB, I had to...” she trailed off as the tears slowly trailed down her face. The members in the room were confused by Minami’s little outburst, but glad she was beginning to speak out.
“Minami, what do you mean?” Miichan hesitantly asked, not wanting to set her best friend off.
The leader let out a breath, and spoke. “I don’t know. I don’t get it. It’s frustrating. I didn’t mean for it to happen. One day, everything just changed...the way I saw her changed, and it scared me. It’s not normal for me to feel that way right?”
Everyone exchanged glances again. Their strong leader looked so small standing there in the middle, slightly shaking. Yuko slowly walked up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Minami. We won’t understand unless you say it properly. You can tell us.” She tried comforting the girl.
“How can I tell you if I don’t get it myself? Atsuko’s always been there for me, she’s my irreplaceable partner. My best friend. That’s how it always should have been. But one day everything just seemed to alter. When I looked at her I felt guilty, because I started to feel something I shouldn’t. My feelings of wanting to be with her, to protect her intensified. Then I began to realize... that I wanted to be the one by her side forever....”
Everyone was mildly shocked at the confession. Marko stepped up. “Wait. Minami. Are you saying...you’re in love with Atsuko? As in, ‘in’ love?” Mariko voiced what the others were wondering.
Minami let out a little laugh through her tears. Love. That’s the word I’d been denying. “Yah. ...I think I am. I still don’t really get it. I’ve never been in love before but, being with Atsuko always made me happy and reassured me. The thought of her being with someone else saddened me, but if it made her happy then I’d be willing to accept that... Ah! It’s so confusing! I don’t feel like this looking at anyone else. I don’t care about other guys or girls, or even romance at that! Only Atsuko makes me feel this way...and I hate it” she let out a strangled small cry then lifted her eyes to meet the members in front of her. “So yah, I guess I am in love huh” she smiled but it didn’t reach her eyes.
Minami was afraid of what the other members would say or think. But they wanted the truth, and here it was. The truth was even foreign to Minami’s ears since she never admitted it out loud.
Yuko looked around at the other members and each nodded. “Show of hands. Who here is NOT surprised?” The current ace asked, as everyone raised a hand.
Minami stared at them like they were insane. “Oi, don’t go giving us that look. I mean sure we’re taken aback but...It seems to make sense yah know, that if someone like you were to fall in love, it’d be with Atsuko.” Yuko smiled, showing her dimples.
“It is shocking that Minami of all people would end up falling in love before all of us. Figures she’d have trouble admitting it though.” Mariko added.
“Minami, we’ve been with you for ages, we’ve seen how you and Atsuko interact and honestly...I think you two are a good match for each other.” Haruna smiled.
“Don’t go misjudging our reactions. We’re not that shallow. You’re important to us, and so it Atsuko. There’s nothing wrong with you loving her.” Tomochin said.
“Yah, but since you’re serious you’ll have to make sure to take care of my wife!” Miichan jokingly added.
“See Minami. That’s one worry out the window. We really could care less who you like, as long as they’re a good person, and Atsuko is definitely a good person” Yuko reassured.
Minami was touched and relieved that her friends saw her no differently...however, they were still failing to realize her worries, and when Yuko said, “you should tell Atsuko,” that’s when Minami decided to let all her worries pour out to these people that she honestly trusted her life with.
“I can’t! Don’t you get it? That’s the whole reason I declined her offer. I told you these feelings aren’t something I should have. I tried to ignore them, to forget them. I thought once Atsuko graduated they may fade away. I hoped it was a phase. But they only intensified in her absence. That’s why I told myself I couldn’t live with her. I was afraid; scared that’d I’d love her more if I did. I was scared of my feelings and worried about the damage they could cause. I can’t have these feelings for so many reasons...I’m still in AKB, I’m supposed to set an example remember. Plus this isn’t something society would accept. How do you think Atsuko’s future would be affected if people found out I loved her? Not to mention there’s Atsuko herself. I don’t want to ruin my friendship with her...I’m scared she’ll hate him. So I told myself it’s better for everyone if I forget these feelings.”
All the members held concern for the leader. How long had Minami felt like this? Was she always battling these feelings alone? Always worrying about them? How much had it hurt her? Messed with her? It certainly couldn’t have been easy.
“...Minami, we understand where you’re coming from. But in all this, you forgot to factor one important thing. How Atsuko feels. You haven’t consulted her yet. You can’t just go making decisions for the both of you without her consent.” Yuko stated, and lifted her hand to silence the younger girl when she was about to speak out. “Do you seriously think Atsuko would shut you out if she heard your feelings? You know she’s not like that. Worse that can happen is that she’d reject those feelings. However, you won’t ever lose her. But for now you have to talk to her. You two have to work this out.”
“She’s right Minami. You’re the one who says we should live without regrets. And if you keep quiet, then I guarantee you’ll regret this in the future. It’s already caused strain to you and Atsuko, don’t let it happen again.” Haruna gently said.
“Only you two can decide where you’ll go from here. We’ll support you two no matter what. So talk to her.” Mariko said.
Minami looked to all the members and saw genuine love and care in their eyes. Once again, she realized how lost she’d be without them. However, she still expressed a worry, “but, I don’t even know where to begin when I see her...”
Yuko let out a devilish grin and threw her hand over Minami’s shoulder. “No worries leader. It’s all taken care of. Atsuko’s up to date, so you’ll just have to resume from here!”
Minami’s eyes winded as a figure stepped out from behind the stage and stood at the place she always belonged. Center.
“Atsuko!” Minami called out surprised.

I started reading your fic today, and I totally fell in love. I love it, everything seems so genuine and real, I...ah...just really love it. The characterisation is so precise and the drama in this fic caused me to feel their pain. :cry:
I really like how you wrote Takamina, it seems so real and the dilemmas and problems she has to face in regards to her being in love is so sincere and cute. How its implied that she has endured this pain for a long time made my heart ache a bit, and the feelings you put into each sentence was simply heartwarming and amazing.
I'm so sad there's only 1 chapter after this, but this is an awesome fic, and I can't wait to see Takamina and Atsuko reconcile. :heart:

Chapter 5 – The compromise
The leader was frozen in place due to Atsuko’s sudden presence, while the other members greeted her cheerfully.
“Hey Atsuko, glad you stuck around and stayed in place. I was worried you might come storming out or something.” Yuko said as she gestured for Atsuko to come down from the stage.
Hold on! She was here the whole time...Then that means...she heard everything! Minami turned to her fellow AKB members and said, “You guys set me up!” she didn’t know whether to be mad or not.
“Easy Takamina. We just figured it’d be best for Atsuko to be here to listen to whatever you had to say. This way it saves you the trouble of having to explain things again. We knew that, otherwise you wouldn’t have opened up if asked to confront Atsuko alone and directly.” Miichan explained.
Minami inwardly sighed at her friends antics. No doubt this was Yuko’s plan. It’s true she has nothing to be mad over; however...she was still at a loss as how to confront Atsuko, who was only a few meters away from her.
The others noticed Atsuko and Minami were having some sort of staring contest and figured it was time for them to bolt. “Well, we’ll be taking our leave. Please try not to kill each other.” Yuko joked, as Atsuko gave them all a grateful smile before they left.
When Atsuko turned her attention back to the older girl, Minami felt extreme anxiety build up, and a part of her wanted to bolt out of the theatre like the others. Though she knew that wasn’t really an option. Okay Minami focus. You always talk about your responsibilities, so take responsibility for your feelings. As Atsuko began to approach, the older girl bowed forward at an 80 degree angle and shouted, “Sorry!”
The actress paused directly in front of the bowing girl and furrowed her brows. She placed her hands on the girls’ shoulders and directed her to return to her proper stance. They made eye contact once again as Atsuko spoke, “you better not to apologizing for your feelings. Because you have plenty of things to be sorry for, but that’s not one of them”
The stern and angry look on the actresses face left no room for argument. “Um, right. I’m sorry for keeping this from you... for worrying you, and for not being honest.” Minami sincerely apologized.
Atsuko relaxed her facial features, and out of nowhere, she flung both arms around Minami’s neck and buried her head into the shorter girls’ neck. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Atsuko lightly cried out as tears slid down her face. At first Minami was shocked, but as soon as she felt Atsuko shake against her as she cried, she slowly encircled her hands protectively around the girl to return the hug. Why is she apologizing? “I’m sorry. I didn’t know that you were worrying about this the entire time. You must have felt alone, and scared, and I never realized” she sobbed against the girl.
After holding the sobbing girl for a bit to wait for her to calm, Minami gently pushed Atsuko back so she could look her into her eyes. “Hey hey, what are saying? There’s no way you could’ve known. I was keeping it a secret remember, and for the longest time even I didn’t know.” The leader gently used her sleeve to dry the actresses’ tear stained face.
Atsuko sniffled and said, “Yah but...I was angry at you for not being honest before, but the truth is... I wasn’t either. I’ve always wanted to be with you, but I didn’t want to push my selfish needs and feelings on to you, so I told myself I’d be patient. That I’d wait for you. But if I hadn’t, if I’d shared with you how I felt earlier, then you wouldn’t have had to go through all that confusion and fear yourself!” Atsuko scolded herself and she tried to wipe the rest of the tears off her face.
Minami stared in shock for a bit at the young girl, and then...began to wholeheartedly laugh. Atsuko was dumbfounded at the singers’ reaction. “What about this is funny to you!?” she angrily pouted.
The leader tried to get her laughter under control, and once she did, she smiled to Atsuko. Her previous nervousness disappeared. “Sorry. It’s just that...we’re both idiots huh? It’s kind of like Yuko kept saying, that there was no meaning to our fight or whatever it was. If we’d just both been honest from the start, we could’ve avoided this but...Then we wouldn’t be us, would we? We’re two of the most stubborn people in the world, remember.” Minami gave a genuine smile to her one true ace, and Atsuko let out a little laugh.
“Yah. I guess you’re right. So maybe we should stop apologizing to each other and figure things out... It’s my turn to be honest now. Minami...I’ve always loved you. At some point on in our days in AKB, I realized that I never wanted to be apart from you. I don’t know when it happened or how, but it did. I was also worried about many things, so I decided I’d wait. Throw out subtle hints, ask you to move in with me...Like I said, be patient with you. A part of me was always scared that’d you’d never feel for me what I feel for you, and I was close to giving up one day...But you know what gave me the courage to hold on to my feelings?” Atsuko asked, with eyes full of nothing but love.
Minami almost missed Atsuko’s question. She was slightly getting flustered and attempting to keep her heart rate under control. “Um, what gave you the courage?” she asked.
Atsuko smiled her bright loving smile and pulled out her cell phone. She browsed through some files and when she found what she was looking for, she showed the screen to Minami. “Remember this. It was the response you gave to a caller when you were hosting All Nigh Nippon on your own.”

And it’s not a bother at all to me and it actually makes me happy. I’m probably the type that can say “But you know, we’re still friends!!” but I don’t know how the person you, KitarieLove-san likes so it’s a little hard. I think that you can say it. But maybe you could just try saying it casually like “I like you, I like you~”. But the feeling of liking your friend, you don’t have to change it; yeah that’s how I think.
“Ah! I remember that,” Minami said thoughtfully. Atsuko smiled and closed her phone.
“I was actually listening to that broadcast live, and when I heard your reply, I thought it was honest and beautiful. I wanted to believe in those words you said, and I did. And I know you’re scared, but I want to believe in your own words too Minami. The feeling of like each other, that’s not something we have to change. I want to say it properly to you Minami ...I love you.”
Minami was deeply touched, and this time tears slid down her own face. “Who knew such simple words held such power, huh? Well you heard how I felt but, I also want to say it properly and directly to you. Atsuko, you really are my irreplaceable partner, and I don’t care what it’s called. Friendship or love, as long as I can always be by your side, I’ll be happy. I...I love you.” The singer was blushing furiously as she said the words out loud.
This time it was Atsuko’s turn to have her heart skip a couple beats. She beamed at the older who smiled back at her. “I’m glad that’s how you feel. ...But, I’m guessing you won’t let us engage in any couple activities as long as you’re in AKB right?” Atsuko knowingly asked.
Minami wore a light smile, “you know me well. I still have to keep up my responsibilities in AKB. I’m already somewhat breaking the rules by not holding on to a one-sided love but...I still need to lead by example, I can’t expect people to follow what I say if I’m off in a relationship myself... you understand that right?”
“Of course! It’s your job after all, plus it’s very you, and it’s one of the things I love most about you... I can wait, I always will, even if you remain in AKB for the next 20 or 30 years!” the actress teased.
Minami laughed, “it won’t be that long, don’t worry.”
“I’ll wait either way...Oh, and I hope that you understand that I’ll still have to kiss guys on screen and everything.” Atsuko smirked and watched Minami cringe and then sigh.
“Yah, I understand. That part is your job” Minami smiled to reassure the actress.
“It’s too bad though, I really wanted us to...have our...first kiss” Atsuko said as a light blush appeared on her face. Minami grew very flustered.
“K...kiss. Well...we can’t. That’d be cheating. That’ll have to wait once I graduate from the group.” The singer stated with much effort. Wait, did I just promise something... She tried to change the subject. “But...I don’t think there’d be anything wrong if we lived together...I mean everything is still in place back home so if you want... I mean if you’d like of course...” she trailed off as Atsuko took her hand and gave it a gentle grip.
“Minami, let’s go home. Our home, okay”
The older girl smiled, and nodded as she and Atsuko began to leave the theatre. Neither of them wanted to mention what would happen after Minami graduated from AKB, because that’s when things would get difficult for the two. They’d discuss that when the time came though. But both of them knew that somehow things would work out. That they would not regret this.
Holding each other’s hand, they both felt the power they gave one another, and knew that as long as they were together, they’d somehow survive, regardless of any outcome.
When Atsuko and Minami opened the theatre doors, they were greeted with the members all falling forward on the floor. Minami glared down at them while they all gave a sheepish expression.
“Sup leader, how’s it feel to finally be able to look down at us?” Yuko joked.
“You guys were listening in!?” Minami accused.
The others all tried to scramble back up to their feet, arguing with one another on who was to blame for getting caught. “I told you they were coming” Miichan said.
“Well Yuko should’ve found a better hiding place,” Mariko absently added.
“We wouldn’t be able to hear them anywhere else,” Yuko defended.
Atsuko laughed at her friends bantering, and Minami also let a smile grace her face.
...And of course, she and Atsuko weren’t alone. They had loving friends, comrades, a family who would always look out for them. Taking care of each other is what they all did best after all.

Little bonus – The loophole
As the two were walking home hand in hand after splitting up with the others, Atsuko glanced around to make sure no one was looking. She gathered courage for what she was planning to do.
“Mi~na~mi~” she sweetly called out.
The leader, unaware that the younger girl was plotting something, turned and slightly looked up, only to be met with Atsuko’s lips on hers. It was a sweet quick peck, and as quickly as it was initiated, it was over.
“Wh...wh...what” Minami covered her lips with her free hand, and then glared at the younger girl, who wore a smirk on her face. “Atsuko!?”
“What?” Atsuko answered innocently. “In order for it to count as a real kiss, both parties have to be performing the action, but since it was just me, we’re not really breaking any rules.”
Is she seriously trying to find loopholes!
