The Kyocera Dome performances of AKB48 Group ended on the 8th, with the announcement of an audition event called “Draft Conference” at Grand Prince New Takanawa on November 10th.
According to the management, an open call for sign-ups will start in September. The pool of candidates will go through multiple evaluation rounds, and the final pool will be presented to team captains of AKB48, SKE48, NMB48 and HKT48. When a captain picks a candidate and the candidate agrees to the negotiation, then the candidate becomes a kenkyuusei of that particular team.
As for the status after being picked, at first it was announced that the candidate will become a regular member, but after the concert was over, the management issued a notice saying that was an error and the candidate will only become a kenkyuusei.
The management wants to make this event comparable to Senbatsu Sousenkyo as well as the Janken Tournament.
Just like the professional baseball draft, the candidates cannot pick where they want to go geographically. Even the venue is the same as the one used for professional baseball draft. Management is now working on rules/guidelines for the draft.
Group-specific auditions will still be held regularly, just like how some baseball players were employed without going through the draft, or were employed as “test players”.
The captains are already meeting and discussing about what they are looking for in these candidates, such as “people that can really dance” or “people that are really good at MC”.

On 10th November, the “AKB Group Draft Meeting” will be held. In general, girls target an individual group in their auditions - AKB, SKE, NMB, HKT (10 teams) and once they’ve cleared the audition, become the new force of that group.
On 8th August, At the Osaka Dome performance of AKB48’s 5 Dome Tour, there was a surprise announcement. General Director Takahashi Minami (22) did not give us all the details, but said “it is certain that AKB needs something,” with the expectation that the group would make a great leap forwards.
Yasuhi Akimoto (55), the manager and producer of the group up until now, held a meeting after the Sapporo Dome Concert on the 31st July, which was attended by every captain and theatre manager, and which was rife with the opinion that the group needs, “more girls who can MC,” and, “fresh, young girls”. According to the management, this should be an event on the same scale as the general election and the janken tournament: “We aim to transform the group,” they explained. However, the auditions in their original format will also continue

There were people who shared their opinions saying, "Are you ignoring the current teams and the Team Trainees?" Of course it's not like that, but rather, I just only want to make things better!!
There will be always pros and cons whenever we hold a new event. However, it's really enjoyable to exchange opinions with the fans.

- There is no longer an upper age limit for applicants. Anyone above 11 years old can apply.
- Team 4 does not participate in the draft.

As previously announced, the AKB48 group will hold a draft meeting on November 10 where team captains of the 48 groups will draft new members for their team. The candidate audition for this draft meeting has been finished and the final 30 girls were presented to the public on September 22. The youngest candidates are 12 and the oldest is 24.^
These 30 candidates will now be further presented in different media until the actual draft meeting and then it is up to the captains who they want for their team.

Oldest candidate for AKB48's 'Draft Kaigi' withdraws
It's been revealed that Komiyama Yuka (24) has withdrawn from AKB48's upcoming 'Draft Kaigi'. Komiyama is the eldest among the 30 candidates who were chosen.
According to AKB48's official blog, "there was a request from Komiyama herself about the withdrawal". There were 30 candidates after the third screening on September 22nd, but now there are now 29 candidates with the oldest being 20 years old and the youngest 12 years old.
AKB48's 'Draft Kaigi' will be held on November 10th at Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa.
They're having a filming for "AKBINGO!"

Do the team captains all have to nominate more than one draft member? Can they choose none at all?
If there's no member they're interested in, they don't need to chose one.
What's the maximum number of draft members a captain can pick?
There's no set limit.
Do the groups' managers have any say in the nomination as well?
To encourage team-internal discussion, consultation of the group's manager isn't necessary.
Regarding the system
First round: All teams simultaneously submit one bid.
Members with single bids go to the team in question. In case of members with multiple bids, the team is decided through lottery.
Teams either continue bidding or drop out, should they have no members they're interested in. The Draft Meeting ends once either a) all teams have finished bidding or b) all 29 draft members have been chosen.
- Draft members have the right to refuse a bid.
- Members not chosen by any team aren't remaining as kenkyuusei but returning to their normal school lives.
- After joining the teams, draft members will be treated as equal team members. They're not guaranteed a regular position.
- Captains will be chosing draft members after consulting with other team members present at the event.
- In the sister groups too, the 16-member-a-team system is going to be abolished, opening the chance for promotion at any time.
- Kenkyuusei will be able to perform as understudy for more than one team and be on stage just as much as before.
In case of members with multiple bids, the team is decided through lottery.
Draft members have the right to refuse a bid.

AKB48 group's draft members get their own programLINKS

The 19 draft members selected from the AKB48 Draft Kaigi on November 10, 2013, will get their first own program on "NOTTV" (TV station for smartphone only) starting on January 30, and airing at 1 am every Thursday and Friday for 15 minutes each.
The program will be set in places where their teams are based, and the draft members will challenge themselves to several tasks in order to gain the necessary know-how, experience, and the skills as members of the AKB48 group.
The first and second episodes titled "Team A Takita/Nishiyama ga Yattemita" feature AKB48 Team A's Takita Kayoko and Nishiyama Rena.
