Second attempt to create a fanfic. XD although this is One Shot. A KojiYuu pairing <3 (actually having a hard time choosing)
Tell me your thoughts guys. (Please dont kill me if it wasn't worth your time :kneelbow: ) Still newbie ^^ And tried a different kind of writing. *disappear again* Adios~ :cathappy:
Rooftop Story [KojiYuu]
“Haru going for a star gazing again?” My mom asked as I start to pack some telescope with me.
“Yes mom.” I’ll be back by tomorrow I guess.
“Well then take care.”
I start the engine of my car and start to drive away from my home. I stopped first to the flower shop near my place, taking my flower bouquet order. Then after that I start to go on my destine place.
I parked my car in the entrance of the cemetery and grabbed the bouquet flowers I ordered before. I walked inside and looked grave by grave until I saw the name I’m looking for.”
I placed the flower at the side of the gravestone and start to pray. As I closed my eyes, it all comes back to me. The vivid memory I had 8 years ago.

Same routine I do every day after school is to go in the rooftop, watch the clouds above the sky, comparing it to shapes and any things and make a story about it.
“Heading to the rooftop again Haru?” A boy who is almost the same height as me asked.
“Well yeah.” I responded. “How ‘bout you? Having a basketball practice?”
“Yup.” He smiled at me. “We’re going to have a ball game next week, so we needed to practice.”
“Oh. I see. Then good luck.” I said as we parted ways. I took the stairs that leads to the rooftop while he turns left at the hallway.
Opening the rooftop door, as expected nothing change much. Same old chair that wasn’t used for a long time is still their coated with dust. Rusted old metal panels and some used flower pots that were lying next to each other. I just smiled knowing my favorite place was still the same. As I scan the whole place, there, nicely seated on the floor was a short figure opposite to where I am standing, staring at me and smiled, revealing those two pretty and attractive dimples from her faces. Our eyes met for a second and she suddenly burst into laughter.
“What’s funny?” I asked.
She cover her mouth with her hands as she tries to stop her laughing. “Oh. I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to laugh at you it’s just that you look very amaze as you enter this rooftop which I find it funny.”
I just let out a small sigh as I closed the rooftop door and seated near the entrance since my favorite spot was seated by an unknown girl that I never seen before.
An awkward silence filled the entire rooftop. I just opened a book I that bring with me, pretending to read it to avoid any contacts or conversations with her. I tried to make a quick glance at what she’s doing and all I see is she’s staring at me then a few minutes she would look up in the sky.
“So.. Um.. First time in a rooftop?” She asked, staring the conversation.
“Not really.” I said, flipping a page in the book, still pretending on reading it. “I often go here every lunch break or after school hours.”
“How ‘bout you?” I asked. “I rarely see students who go here. Are you a new student here?”
“No. I’m not a transfer student. I’m actually a senior student.”
“Senior? I asked while closing the book I’ve been pretending to read. “Frankly, I’ve never seen you before.”
“That’s because I seldom go to school.” She answered.
“Wait, like a delinquent student?” I asked.
“Hmm.. Aren’t you’re being rude here?”She asked with a skeptical look.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.” I apologized.
“Apologize not accepted.” She smiled and winked at me. “Unless you introduce yourself to me.”
Why should I tell my name to a stranger when we just met for a couple of minutes? I looked at her from top to bottom before answering her request. She seems harmless. Not really look like a delinquent or a Yankee student. I hesitate at first but then feeling defeated I took a deep breath and release it once.
“Kojima Haru, 1st year student from section B”
“Oh. Then I’ll call you Haru-kun.” She smiled revealing her pretty and attractive dimples again. “My name is Oshima Yuko a senior high from section A. Just call me Yuko or anything you like” I just nodded and go back on reading my book I have with me.
“Say.. Haru-kun… What do you think of the clouds?”
That question surprises me. Never thought there’s someone aside from me would take interest on clouds.
“Hey? Still there” She moves her face closer to mine and wave her hands.
When did she have gotten too close to me? Just before she’s 10 step away but now in just a blink of an eyes she’s closer by an inch.
“Spacing much Haru-kun?” She poked my nose.
Her poking brings me back to reality. “Oh. I’m sorry. I just forgot that I have assignments to do.” That was just a lie to make an excuse for my sudden behavior.
“Assignments at the first day of 2nd semester?” She asked as she gives me those I-don’t-believe-in-you-looks.
Just thinking of it, no one would believe if you say those as an excuse. Ok, confirmed, I’m bad at lying. I heaved another big sigh and release it once.
“Ok, you win. It’s just that I’m happy that you ask that question.”
“Clouds are beautiful things. They appear to be white and fluffy. When I look at them they make me peaceful and forget my problems easily.” She smiled as she looked above
the sky taking a very deep breath. I nodded to what she said.
“Yes. I love clouds too. I’ve always watch them pass the sky. Not only I watch the clouds but also by night I watch the stars, moon and everything related to sky.”
“Wow! That’s amazing. So are you planning to study astronomy by college?” She asked enthusiastically.
“I don’t know.” That’s my only response. I never think of getting into a college all I know is when I graduate high school I would apply for a low-paid job.
“Why?” She asked.
“You’ve got lots of question there aren’t you? Yu-ko sem-pai” We both laugh to what I’ve said.
We chatted long until around four in the afternoon. Talking about astronomy stuffs endlessly and shows her my book that I’ve previously pretending to read. It was a book about astronomy. Constellations, galaxies, planets and other things related to astronomy. She would just smile at me and would tell me how enthusiastically I am in explaining it.
Days passed by, we always see each other at the rooftop, talking endlessly about astronomy and other personal things. I enjoy being with her and without realizing I fell in love with her. Wherever I am, I always see her face even if she’s not with me. I can’t get her out of my head. I can’t even sleep well at night. I want to know whether she’s doing fine if I not with her. This is the first time it happened to me. I convinced myself that I will tell my feelings but before that I would like to invite her into a star gazing by Friday night and confess. I hope my plans will be successful.
The day finally comes. I open the rooftop door with a big smile although to my big dismay she’s not in the rooftop yet. I think I was a bit early so I waited for a couple of minutes.
I waited till three pm in the afternoon yet no sign of her coming.
“Where are you?” I muttered in the air. “What’s making you long?”
I decided to call it a day since it’s already time. I walk away leaving the rooftop. As I passed the faculty room I heard some teachers talking to each other. My eyes widen when I heard a familiar name. My heart suddenly feels heavy like there’s someone squeezing it. My eyes start to feel heavy too. Tears start to form in my eyes. As they continue to talk, my tears start to roll down into my cheeks.
Yuko was hospitalized and has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia stage 3.
I couldn’t believe what I just heard. It was like a bad joke to me. I opened the faculty room’s door. I begged the teachers to tell me about the other information about it.
“Which is the hospital?”
“Please I beg you!”
The teachers hesitate at first but then they eventually told me which hospital was it.
As I arrived at the said hospital, asked some nurse where is Yuko’s room and they escorted me to it. I knocked two times yet no response. So I decided to just open it by myself.
The room was empty. No Yuko to be found. Yet I suddenly remember about clouds. The only place where Yuko could be is the rooftop. I asked again some nurses to where the rooftop is. They give me some direction to it and I immediately go over it.
And I was right. When I arrived I saw her again. Different from before when I first saw her. Pale skin, her lips are now dried. I walked slowly toward her. Taking a very deep breath to hold my tears.
“Haru-kun!” She smiled forcefully. “You found me.”
“Yes. That’s a hard hide and seeks game you made.” I smiled forcefully too, not wanting her to see how sad I am.
There was a long pause before we continue our conversation. I moved beside her and lean on the wall. Taking another breath, gathering my whole strength to ask her.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked seriously and pursed my lips.
“Do you still remember the day we first met?” Yuko said weakly as she looked above the sky, trying to ignore my question.
“Rooftop.” I answered in a low voice.
How can I ever forget those that day? It all started on the school rooftop. Our silly conversation. Her attractive dimples. How we watch the clouds passes the sky. I can never forget those.
“That’s because I seldom go to school”
Those words suddenly hit me, like hundreds of sharpshooter suddenly appear and shoot me with arrows and bow. How could I never realize it? I couldn’t talk and was dumbfounded. I didn’t continue to ask her more questions I just kept silence.
“Hey.” She starts to laugh. “Pacing again Haru-kun?”
“Ah. Sorry.” I laugh back to her.
“Are you free this evening? I asked her. “Or you’re not allowed to leave the hospital?”
“If you’re not going to tell the nurses then we can go outside of this stupid hospital” She chuckled.
“So, it was a ‘yes’ answer?”
“Yep.” She replied. “So what are up to? As long it’s your treat then that would be fine.”
“You’ll see.” I said and winked at her. “Yup, my treat.”
So our plan was successful. I helped her escaped from the nurses and hospital guards. All I did is let her wear some of my long sleeves shirt and let her wear a big sunglasses. As we escaped from the hospital, we rode my bike and went to a hill not really far from the hospital.
Before reaching the hill, I told her to close her eyes. I tied some handkerchief in her eyes. I set up the mat we’re going to use to lay down and get the food I prepared for her.
“1, 2, and 3 you can now open your eyes.”
I can see her amazement when she opened her eyes. I can see her wide smile, her eyes that looks like it will burst into tear any minute. In some way it hurt me. It hurt me knowing that the girl I love will never see this beautiful stars again. But still I want to do all my best to make her happy. Show her how important she is to me. Care for her until her last breath. Those are what on my mind.
“They’re beautiful.”
“Yes. As beautiful as you are.” I smiled, gesturing her to sit on the mat I prepared and have a dinner with her. “I prepared that food. Tell me, was it good?”
“Hmm. Well better than the hospital’s food I guess.” She chuckled.
As we eat, she told me everything about herself. The reason behind her absences and told that this is her second time repeating her senior year because of her incurable disease. I only sat there listening to every whine she says to me. How the hospital food taste bad. Never let her go out of her room and other things.
After we eat, we lie down on the mat and start to watch the sky full of stars. No words can describe how happy I am. I wish time would stop. I wish this day would never end.
“Thanks.” She muttered. “You know what; you’re the only person who fulfills one of my greatest dreams.”
“You’re very much welcome.”
“It’s always been my dream to have star gaze because since I was in middle school I’ve been always hospitalized, locked inside a lonely room that has only one window, like a bird locked inside a small cage waiting for someone to open it.” She said seriously as she holds my hand. “And you’re the one who opened my cage. How can I ever thank you?” Her tears start to roll down her cheeks.
“Th-This feeling.. I don’t know what it is. I don’t want to die yet. I want to stay longer by you side Haru-kun.”
Words that I’ve been waiting for. I stood up, hugged her tight as I can. “We’re same. I want to be with you."
“I love you Yuko.”
“I promise I will never leave your side.”
As I opened my eyes, I was brought back to present. Looking back at the grave, there lays the girl I love. But I know she’s now somewhere above the sky. Looking at me, guiding me and never leave me.
“Hey, Yuko if you can hear me.” I looked above the sky and shouted:
“I love you!”

My Overly Possessive Best Friend [wMatsui]
I have a friend whose name is Rena Matsui. She’s smart, beautiful, and caring best friend. She’s almost close to perfect and everyone in my school admires her. Although, she’s kind of possessive when it comes to me, I’d still consider myself lucky to have her as my friend. No. My best friend.
“Jurina!” I look back and search for the person who called me. It was none other than Rena, running faster toward me while still in her white and maroon archery uniform. As soon as she reached me, she holds both of my shoulder tight and gave me those solicitous expressions and ask me, “Jurina daijoubu?! I heard you fell down during your basketball practice, so decided to skip my archery practice and search for you. Tell me, are you hurt?”
“You don’t have to worry so much Rena-chan. It was just a scra--” Before I could continue explaining of what happened Rena grabs my hand and lead the way.
“Like it or not, you’re going with me at the school clinic.” Rena protested.
“ But..”
“No more buts.” Rena glared at me for a few seconds and then we continue to walk toward the school clinic. I could say no more. All I do is watch her back while we’re walking. She’s so serious even when it is just a small thing like this. I just chuckled and somehow felt happy from her protective behavior toward me.
At the clinic
“Your arm let me see it.” Rena ordered me. I have no choice but to follow her orders. I let her see the bruises I got from our basketball practice and she examined it. After she examined it, she goes to the cabinets to get some bandage, cotton and some alcohol for cleaning purpose.
“Ah.. Itai.. Itai.. Rena-chan Itaii.” I closed my eyes from pain. It is just a small bruise but seriously is hurt so much.
“A little more patient Jurina.” Rena said as she finished cleaning my bruises and then wrapped the bandage around my arm. “There finish!” She said.
I opened my eyes and saw my arm is nicely wrapped with bandage. “Thanks Rena-chan.” I smiled at her.
“Anything for my Jurina.” Rena answered and hugged me. “You should be more careful next time. I don’t want to see my Jurina being hurt.” She whispered in my ears.
“I’m sorry to worry you. I promise to be careful next time.” I hugged back.
“Ah! Wait! I forgot something!” She broke the hugged and reaches for my arm again. Slowly she moved my arm closer to her face and gave it a quick kiss. “There! All finish!” She looked back at me and gave me a smile. I can feel my cheeks start to get warm. Blushing from what she did.
“Rena-chan! Y- You don’t need to do that!”
“That’s just a healing kiss.” Rena looked at me and gave a devilish smile. “What? You want it on lips?”
“Stop teasing me!” I couldn’t face her, so I looked from the other side.
Suddenly she burst into laughter. “I’m only joking Jurina.” She throws herself to me, hugging me. “But seriously don’t hurt yourself because I can’t help but to worry.” Rena said as we fall down to the clinic’s bed. “Hai. I’m sorry again.” I said. We stayed at the clinic like that for about 2 hours. Rena-chan fell asleep on top of me, well I think because she got tired of worrying about me.
She’s cute when she’s asleep. She’s like an innocent angel. Although things would get different when she gets angry or worries about me. It’s like the end of the world. Well I hope she’s going to wake up any minute now. Just telling the truth my back is getting numb now.
“Rena-chan time to wake up.” I brushed away the hair that is covering her face. “Almost time to go home now.”
“I don’t want to.” Rena-chan murmured and buried her face on my chest.
“You need to change to your school uniform now. School is almost close now.” I said. “I’ll buy you some melon-pan after this.”
Finally I convinced her to wake up, but it takes about 5 minutes before she finally stood up. I told her that we’ll meet at the school façade after both of us are done in changing to school uniform.
“A promise is a promise Jurina! You’’ll buy me a melon-pan today.”
“Yes.. Yes.. As many as you want.” I told her while we entered a bake shop. Her eyes widen as she saw the melon-pan displayed on the counter of the shop. She truly loves melon-pan. “Order now? How many do you like?” I asked her. “I want 1 for dine-in and 1 for take-out.” She smiled at me. I ordered total of 3 melon-pans. 1 melon-pan for me and 2 melon-pans for Rena-chan.
We seated near the window and chatted while we eat. Discussing our future plans since we’re just a month from graduating high school.
“What university are you going in?” I asked Rena-chan.
“I’m thinking of Nagoya University.” Rena-chan answered. “How about you?”
“Tokyo University.” As I told her to where university to her eyes widen again as our conversation went from normal to serious. She stops eating her melon-pan and gave me a sad and emotionless face. It was like she’s telling me not to go.
“You’re leaving me, aren’t you?” Tears start to form in her eyes. “I thought we’re best friends, right?”
It’s normal for someone who’s very close to you to be sad if you’ll going far away from them. I understand Rena-chan. But I hope she’ll understand me too.
“I got a scholarship letter from Tokyo University yesterday.” I said. “I don’t have any intension of leaving you behind, but this the only choice I have. And yes we are best friends. That would be forever.”
“But why don’t you just go to Nagoya University?”
“I hope you understand. This is a once in a life time chance.” I hold her hands. “I promise that I’ll keep in touch with you using my phone every day when I go to Tokyo.” She smiled forcefully to me and nodded.
That’s the last time I saw her smile.
A month later, the day of our graduation came. As usual Rena-chan is sad knowing that after a week I’ll be heading to my destination, leaving her behind. I spend my last remaining days with Rena-chan before I go to Tokyo. Every day I buy her most favorite food melon-pan, and that would at least make her sad features away. I even bought pair of phone chains for me and for Rena-chan. So we can always be together even when I’m away.
“So this is it Rena-chan.” I wear my brown sweater. “I’m going to miss you.”
She made no reply. Her sad eyes that will almost burst into tears any minutes were locked on me, still begging me to no go. I patted her head and hugged her tightly. “I’ll be back by Christmas Holiday. And I promise to buy you some gift.”
ANNOUNCEMENT: Passengers, the train will be departing after 5 minutes. Make sure your bags are safe. Good day.
Hearing the announcement, I release my tight hug to Rena-chan and kiss her pale cheeks.
“I’m going now. Goodbye Rena-chan.” I reach for my suit case and made my way in the train’s entrance.
“WAIT! Jurina!” I turn around and see Rena-chan crying. “Promise me that I’m only you’re best friend forever! You’re MINE alone!” She shouted to me with her fierce eyes. I chuckled and say, “Of course I promise! Forever and ever! I love you Rena-chan!” I waved my hands and smile to her. After that, the train door closed and starts to move. I stayed at entrance until the sad figure slowly vanishes from my sight.
Tears start to flow from my eyes. I couldn’t help it but it sure hurt to leave your love ones behind.

[5:00pm] Rena-chan, how are you? I just reach Tokyo and my
butt hurts from sitting for hours. Haha. I hope you’re ok now. –Jurina
[7:00pm] Good evening Rena-chan, I just arrived at my dorm. And it was surprisingly
small. I already eat dinner at some WhackDonalds here. Hope you eat well :) –Jurina
[7:30am]Good morning Rena-chan! I’m on my way to school now. Take care. –Jurina
[4:00PM]Good Afternoon Rena-chan! My school activities just finished and
I’m now on my way to my dorm. I miss you already <3. I hope you’re ok. Love you. –Jurina
As I promised, I send Rena-chan a mail every day. When I woke up, what I eat, what I do and when it time for me to sleep. I always imagine how Rena-chan would look when I send her a mail. I thought that I might be a little irritating to her but when she replied back she send me a picture of her with a happy face, so I felt relieved. Although most of the time she’s the one who always send me mail. A total of 30 mail a day from her alone.
Until one day, we got fight over a simple misunderstanding.
[5:00pm] Rena-chan, I’ll be going home late today. Please don’t worry.
I’m with Churi, a university friend of mine. Take your dinner now and eat well. :-) –Jurina <3
I know Rena-chan would disagree with me attending some social gathering, thus I turn my phone into silence-mode. It was just a simple karaoke party so there’s nothing Rena-chan would worry.
But I guess I’m wrong.
I arrived at exactly 10pm in the evening at my dorm. Feeling really tired, I throw myself to my bed and began to sleep. The sun’s bright ray was the only thing that wakes me. I forgot that I turn my phone on silent mode so it didn’t alarm. As I open my phone, 50 mail message from Rena-chan. Message full of worries and anger.
“Where are you?”
“Why aren’t you answering my mails?”
“Who’s Churi?”
“You should go home now!”
I was shocked when I see my inbox and I didn’t really know how to reply her messages. I just leave it like that throughout the day and reply by afternoon after my class.
[4:00pm] Rena-chan, Im sorry I didn’t reply yesterday. I reach home by 11pm and I got tired and went to sleep quickly. –Jurina
Rena [4:05pm] who’s Churi?
[4:07pm] are you mad at me? –Jurina
Rena [4:09pm] answer my question. Who’s Churi?
[4:11pm] she’s our class representative. A friend. And she’s the one who invited me on a karaoke party. –Jurina
Rena [4:11pm] don’t go with her!
[4:12pm] but why? She’s a nice person. –Jurina
Rena [4:13pm] I’m the only one you need. Your mine. I don’t like her.
[4:14pm] stop being selfish Rena! You don’t even know her! Don’t even bother replying on me!–Jurina
I got pissed and send her a cold message without even thinking. I know she’s just being protective to me, but sometimes it’s too much. It irritates me.
But I guess that was too harsh of me… Should I or shouldn’t I mail her again?

It’s been 1 week since our arguments and I couldn’t focus on my studies. I’m worried about her. Is she doing ok? I wonder if she’s still mad at me. I couldn’t handle this feeling anymore and I don’t want our friendship to be ruined. My conscience says it all. I better mail her and apologize to her.
[11:00am] Rena-chan? How are you? I would like to apologize of what happened last week.
I didn’t mean to be cold at you. I was just tired and didn’t think I would tell you those words.
I hope you can forgive me. It’s almost lunch time. Don’t skip it. Love you. –Jurina
I expect a reply from her, but to my dismay she didn’t reply. The next day, I tried to message her again hoping that she would reply back.
[7:36am] good morning Rena-chan! I just woke late today so I needed to
eat while walking to the school. Don’t skip your breakfast. Take care –Jurina
[12:00nn] Lunch time! Don’t skip it! [Insert picture] This is me and Churi.
I’ve told her about you all the time. She said she wants to meet you someday :-) –Jurina
[4:00pm] good afternoon Rena-chan! School is finish. As usual I slept during my Algebra
class. Haha. And I got good news to you! Our Holiday break has been decided.
I’m going back to Nagoya in two weeks. Hope to see you soon! –Jurina
She’s not replying. Maybe she’s still mad? Or maybe she’s busy with her college life too. I really hope she’s doing fine. I should buy something special for her as a gift when I come back to Nagoya. So I decided to call Churi to accompany me on buying Rena-chan a gift.
“I’m sorry I’m late!” I run toward Churi who is seating on a bench, waiting for me.
“No. It’s ok. I just got here a few minutes earlier to you.” Churi smiled. “So tell what does Rena-chan like most?” She asked me.
“Ettou.. She loves melon-pan the most!”
“Eh?? Melon-pan? That’s kind of hard.” Churi rub her chin. “How ‘bouts buy her a parrot?”She smiled innocently to me.
“Baka Churi! I didn’t say she likes bird!”
“But birds are cute!” Churi starts to giggle and smiling. I shook my head. Think I got a wrong person.
“Anyway!” She’s back to her normal self now. “How about buy her a necklace? I know a shop that sells cheap yet beautiful necklace around here.”
“Ah! That’s good idea.” She’s finally useful.
We rode a bus to get to the jewelry shop Churi said. I was surprised to see the necklace being sold in the shop. They are pretty and really affordable. The designs are cute too. Luckily I found pair of melon-shaped necklace. I decided to buy it since I’m sure Rena would like this. Churi also bought one for herself and for best friend Airin. She bought an anime-styled necklace which Churi told me that her friend loves anime. After that we eat dinner at WhackDonalds fastfood and went home immediately.
[7:00pm] just got home. I already eat dinner at WhackDonald fastfood
with Churi today. I’m going to have a bath now. –Jurina

The day finally arrived. I’m now going back to my hometown. I check my things. All prepared and nicely placed on my suitcase. Before I leave, I receive a message from Churi saying, “Have a nice trip Jurina! Take care!” I replied back, “Thanks same with you Churi.” After that I send Rena-chan a message again.

I feel excited but mostly I feel sleepy, so as soon as I arrived at the train station, I looked for a comfortable sit inside the train and continue my sleep.
My ride was successful and I arrived a little bit earlier than my suppose arrival. I didn’t even notice that I’m already here. I mailed Churi that I arrived at Nagoya then after that I send Rena-chan a mail too.

At the rooftop
“Rena-chan!” I shouted as I opened the rooftop’s door. She turns her head to me. She looks paler than the last time I saw her.
“Okaeri Jurina.” She response in weak voice. “Long time no see.”
“Look! I got you a present. It’s a melon-shaped necklace.” I smiled at her although she doesn’t look amaze. “Let me help you put it in your neck.” I move at Rena-chan back and slowly put it in her. “I also bought myself too.” I show her my necklace that looks exactly like her. “Churi help me bought this at a jewe—”
“STOP!” Rena shouted at me as she removes and throw away the necklace I put around her neck before. “Stop talking about Churi!”
“But she’s..”
“I told you, you only need me!” Rena shouted, pinning me on the wall. Her tight grip hurt me. “Rena-chan? Itai.. Itai..” I complain but she sealed my lips to her lips, preventing me from talking. It was a long kiss and my eyes start to cry from unknown reason. I feel heavy inside and painful at the same time. “You betrayed me.” Rena-chan whispered in my ears. “Didn’t I say, you belong only to me? You don’t need another friend because I’m your one and only best friend.”
After she pinned me, she hugged me tightly and whisper again, “I hate you Jurina.” I could feel something painfully pierced on my back and as I reach over my back, my hand was soaked with my own blood. “R- Rena-chan I’m sorry.” My vision became blurry after that. But could still see what Rena-chan is doing. She’s… No.. She’s not going to do it, right?
“RENA!!!!! NO!!!!!!” I shouted stopping her with all my might. But I guess it’s too late.

Sounds of Ambulance. Sounds of Sirens. I could clearly hear them. My body was being moved. I could barely see what’s happening. A person in white is pumping chest and put some oxygen mask on my mouth. Saying ‘emergency’. But after that I fully lost my conscious.
As I opened my eyes, I found myself in a tiny white room. Hospital. I looked around and found my mom who has been crying. “Jurina! Thank God you’re alive.” My mom told me that I was sleeping for the whole day. I try to asked them what happened to Rena-chan but they didn’t say a word instead they told me to rest and let my wounds heal. I nodded and follow what my mom told me too. After a week of resting doctor discharge me from hospital but they told me to go back again for another check-up.
[3:00pm] Rena-chan? How are you? Where are you? Let’s meet. I’m in front of your house. –Jurina.
[3:05pm] Jurina-san, Rena is no longer with us. This is Rena’s mom.
I couldn’t believe what was just written on the message I got. All the memory of what happened on the rooftop suddenly flash on my mind. I found myself speechless in front of my best friend house. I knocked hard on their house and beg them to open it. Rena-chan’s mom opens it and cried in front of me. “I’m sorry Jurina. I’m sorry for what Rena did to you.” She told me.
“Can I please go to Rena-chan’s room?” I smiled forcefully to Rena’s mom. She led me to it and I ask her I want to be alone just for a moment and she nodded. “Call me if you need anything I’ll be just in the kitchen.” Rena’s mom told me and I just nodded. “And oh.. There’s a notebook on Rena’s bed. I think it belongs to you. It has name of you.” Rena’s mom added and then excuses herself.
The room never changed. It’s still the same as before. I wonder how lonely Rena-chan is when I moved to Tokyo. Our pictures can be still found glued on her study table. Her melon-pan collection is still nicely placed in her shelves together with her manga collections. I remember how often I go here and borrow a manga from her during our high school days. It’s really fun to be with her. I wish I could turn back time.
The red notebook caught my eyes just a moment. I remember Rena’s mom saying that there’s notebook for me waiting. I opened it and found out it was Rena’s diary. I read page by page and I feel pain.
When will you notice my love for you? I’ve been always inlove with you Jurina.
It hurt me to see you in pain even when you just got a little scratch from your basketball practice.
But what hurt me most is when you leave me and go to Tokyo. I feel empty and lonely.
And when we got fight my heart was in pain. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. I’m worried about you.
I admit I’m selfish and possessive when it comes to you, but that’s because I love you.
I hope someday my feeling will reach you.
I drop off the red notebook after reading and opened the window.
“I’m sorry Rena-chan. Please wait for me at the other world. I’m coming for you.”

Forbidden Love with a Butler (Part 1) [AtsuMina/AtsuKai]
My name is Maeda Atsuko, a graduating senior high student. Yes, Maeda, that’s my surname. I’m the daughter of the Maeda Group and Co.’s CEO Maeda Atsuhiro, one of the most well known and well respected businessmen in the country of Japan. I also have an older brother. His name is Maeda Atsushi. He’s born with weak physical body, yet he’s a real genius and prodigy not unlike me. People around us always compare the both of us. They would say I should act like onii-chan and be genius like him. And it’s kind of annoying to be always compared with your sibling. That’s why I grew up hating my family.
“What are you doing here at the rooftop Maeda-dono? An average guy appears in front of me, disturbing my naptime. “How long will do you intend to play Hide-and-Seek?”
“I’m sleeping, Takamidget. And I never told you to play hide-and-seek with me.” I said in a lazy tone.
Takahashi Kai or TakaMidget, he’s my childhood friend and my trusted butler at the same time. We both grew together, because his family, the Takahashi family serves my family for many generations. But I never treat him as butler or a bodyguard; instead I treat him as a very close friend. He’s a chibi guy, a cute chibi guy, and a simple-minded person. I enjoy teasing him for his height, because he’s the only midget in the Takahashi family, and he never believes that drinking milk will make you taller.
”I know that Maeda-dono! I mean look at the time! We still have one subject left which is History! And it’s my job to make sure that you’re safe. Also, don’t call me TakaMidget, I’m not a midget.”
“If you start drinking milk and stop calling me Maeda-dono I will stop calling you TakaMidget.” I stick my tongue out like this: P, teasing him. “Just leave me… I’m going to continue to sleep. Just go to the room and enjoy yourself studying. Oyasumi midget~”
“You’re not gonna sleep here, you’re going with me.” Kai starts to count from one to ten. “If you’re not going to stand quickly I’ll do something which you’ll regret later.” I didn’t bother to listen to him and continue to sleep, because I know he wouldn’t do anything that will harm me.
But I guess I’m wrong…
“8… 9… and 10… That’s it! You’ll regret this.” Kai finished counting and lean forward, closer to me. I can feel my body being move and was totally surprised. He move his hand behind my knees, raised it a little and after that he move his other hand at the back of my neck, completely lifting up my whole body in a bridal style and he carried me out the rooftop. “I told you, you’ll regret it.” He told me in a cold tone and gave me a smirk.
“Look at them; they look like a newlywed couple.”
“Wah… Look its Kai-sempai and Maeda-dono!”
“AtsuKai forever!! Yay! <3”
“What the heck are you doing? TakaMidget! Bring me down! Can’t you see that the students were looking at us! Stop it! I-it’s embarrassing!”
“Not until we reach our room, Maeda-dono.” Kai smirked again then look unto my eyes, “I told you, you’ll regret it.” Then he gave me an evil smile.
Gee… The students that are on the hallway are all looking at us. It makes me feel uneasy and embarrassed at the same time. I kept on arguing with him yet he still persistent and won’t let me bring down. My back is getting all numb now. All I can do is look unto his eyes with my arms crossed and give him an annoying look. Complaining more would be useless, he wouldn’t even listen anyway.
But sometime isn’t right. Why does it feel comfortable being held by him? On top of that, why does he look cool just now?! Not the typical KaiMidget I know before. He kind of reminds me of a certain anime character named Sebastian Michaelis!
Only he’s smaller though.
“Where here… Mariko-sensei, we’re sorry that we are late.” I didn’t notice that were already in front of our room. Kai brought me down and I stretch my back from pain, “Ughh…”
“Oh~ The Baka-couple are here. Take your seat now.” Mariko sensei ordered.
“We’re not a couple!” We both said in unison. Mariko-sensei and our classmate laugh at us and we both feel embarrassed. I just immediately walk away and sit on my chair, leaving Kai behind.
Troll History Sensei. That’s what she is.
Oh… History… Why does it have to be history? Why does history subject even exist in the first place? I hate it. Boring. I wanted to sleep during our class, but when I try laying my head over my desk Kai would throw a crumpled paper to my head and would look at me like he’s saying, ‘sleep or you’ll regret later’ thing. He’s acting a bit strict and strange today. I’m gonna make him pay later for torturing me.
*Ding-Dong*
“Ok, that’s it for today. Good day class.” Mariko sensei said and left our class.
An evil smile was plastered on my face. Finally school ends here. Slowly I get up of my chair and move behind Kai. “You midget how dare you torture me like that?” I told and try to tickling him from behind.
“Ah! AHAHAHA! S-Stoooopp! W-what a- are y- AHAHA d- doing AHAHAHA?”
“That’s your punishment, you midget!” Still tickling him from behind, enjoying every bits of his reactions. His reactions are priceless, by the way.
“HAHAHA! I c- can’t b- AHAHA! b- Breathe! S-stoop i- it!”
“Yes, that’s what I want, you midget! Beg for more!” Tickling him using my whole force!
“O-ok! Y-you AHAHA! W-win!”
I stop tickling him after he said those words.
Punishment? DONE.
“Uggh…” Kai murmured. He’s all red and exhausted from the tickling session. He looks at me with annoyance and I ask him innocently and smiled, “Why?” He sighed and face-palm his self.
“Your father asked me to make sure that you get better grade than the last year and he also noted that I should make sure that you won’t skip any subject from now on.”
“I see, the old man ordered you that. And what is the reason?” I asked.
“I don’t know. That’s the only thing I was told.”
“Souka… Then that explain your strictness today.”
“I’m sorry. It’s only an order from your father.” Kai apologize as he start arranging his notebooks back to his bag. “So tell me before we go home, anywhere you want to go?” Kai smiled at me. “A payment for not telling you sooner about your fathers order to me.” He added.
“Well… I want something to eat. A burger would do. And I want to go to the beach.”
“Then let’s waste no more time!” Kai hold my hand and we dash off outside the school building, going to the parking lot to get our Limousine car.
We first stop at the WhackDonalds at the nearest place we could see and bought 2 BigWhack burgers, 2 sundae ice cream and 1 extra large French fries. After that we headed to the beach.
~At the beach~
Since it was an unusual day going to the beach, when we arrive at the beach, no people can be seen. Only me and Kai plus the sound of the sea waves. We seated under a tall coconut tree and thankfully we found some piece of blanket on the back of car, we used it as our picnic mat.
Reminiscing the past. It’s really been awhile since we last visited this beach. A lot of precious memories have happened to the both of us in this beach. Some are sad memories but most are happy memories together with Kai. One of the memories that I remember vividly is the Seashell Wishing.
Watching the movement of the sea’s wave made me leapt back through time. The 10 years ago of us in this beach.

“Psst… Oi midget… are you sleeping already?”
“Hnng… What do you want?” A sleepy Kai asked me. “Children should be sleeping at this time. Go to your room and sleep Maeda-dono.” Kai rubbed his eyes.
“Shh… But I can’t sleep. And I want you to read this.” I handed a small book to Kai and he grabbed it. “Look at this page. It said that a person who has 10 Seashell his/her wish will come tr— Oii!” I shook Kai’s body forward and backward. “Stop sleeping you midget! Listen to what I’m saying.”
“Ughh.. You don’t need to shake me Maeda-dono! Besides I already know about that Seashell Wishing thing.” Kai made an annoyed face. “Just go to sleep. We still have class tomorrow.”
“But I want to have seashells now! Let’s go to the beach Kai!”
“No.”
“Pretty please?”
“Never.”
“Then I’m going alone.”
“No.”
“Then you’re going with me?”
“Yes.. Wait!! WHAT!? I’m no—”
“Ok. That settles it! You’re going with me. Be ready in 15 minutes! I’m going to wait you at the back of our house. Make sure that no one will see you.”
I didn’t make Kai to say more word, leaving him behind and I hurriedly made my way to my room, picking thing I’m going to need when I we’ll go to the beach near our place. I’m sure Kai would still go with me even if he says no. He never leaves me alone.
We’re partners in crime.
“Ah… I’m sorry I’m late.” I tapped Kai’s shoulder and examine the very quiet and dark place at the back of our house. The only thing that gives a light in the dark place is the bright round moon and the twinkling of the scattered stars above the night sky.
“It’s so quiet down here.
“Of course it would be quiet! Everyone is sleeping during this late hour, 11:30pm. Kai shouted.
“Lower your voice dude. You’ll make everyone awake. Let’s get going now before everyone will be awakened by your voice.”
We manage to escape our main house easily. Kai and I rode our bicycle to go to the beach near our place. It was dark and a cold night. Thankfully, I was prepared and brought a sweater and 2 flashlights with me. We both used it to look for 10 seashells.
“8… 9… and 10 seashells! Kai over here! We’re done!”
“You only did nothing but to count the seashells I found.” Kai heaved a sigh. “No let’s read the next instruction in the book.” Kai said and read the next instruction aloud, “Instruction no. 2: Form the seashells into a circle shape, then after that count from 1 to 10, close both of your eyes, take a deep breath then move your face close to the seashells and whisper your wish.”
“Ok. I’ve done it!” I said to Kai. “Now it’s your turn.”
“E? That’s fast! Ok my turn.”
Kai take his time very long before he finally whisper his wish. I could see him smiling as he whisper but I cannot hear it. From curiosity, I tried to ask him when we got home but he never says a thing. He told me that the rule in wishing is that never say your wish to anyone or it will never come true.

I really wonder up until now, what does he wished? Grow taller?
That must be it. I bet.
“Oi.. What are you smiling about?” Kai caught me smiling by myself and I answered, “Nothing. I just remember something.” He turns and looked at me and asked again, “Then what it is?”
“Still remember Seashell Wishing we did when we’re young?” I asked Kai who is munching a French Fries.
With a surprise, he suddenly choked when I asked that question. “Oi… Daijoubu?” I asked him again. Clearing his throat, he drinks a cola soda. “Well… Of course yes. W- What about it?” He asked as his cheeks blush and gave me a surprised look.
“Hmm I just remembered it…” I mumbled. “I’m curious, what did you wish at that time?”
“It’s a secret!” Kai answered quickly than I expected and avoided my stares. Telling it a secret makes me even more curious. Clearly, he’s hiding something. He’s easy to understand.
“Oh, come on. It was just a childish wish we did before. It wasn’t really a big deal.” I explain to him, still trying to convince him to tell me his wish. “Tell me was it you’d grow heights even just a little?” He gave me a cold ‘No’ response and a smack on head when I said that. It was very painful…. Ouch.
“What if I told my wish, will you told yours too?” Asking him again. My only last weapon is to convince him to say what I wished too. It’s actually quite embarrassing but I need to do this to unlock his biggest secret.
“Deal.” Kai said in serious tone. “Only if we say it both in the same time. And the one who lies will receive a smack on the face.” We know each other very well, so to tell a lie with each other is really will not work out. “Sure!” I said, not turning back from our deal.
“In the count of 3… 2… 1…”
Kai: I wished that, I wanted to be with Atsuko forever even if she calls me midget.
Atsuko: I wished that, I wanted to be with Kai forever even if he’s a midget.
A moment of awkward silence falls upon us. No words, no noise just the sound of the sea’s waves. Both of us we’re in the state of shock. No one dare to say another word. I could feel my heart beating faster. My cheeks start to heat up. I bet Kai is feeling this too. I could see him blushing hard from the corner of my eyes. And he was like a frozen statue, not moving and dumfounded.
A mixture of happiness and confusion can be both read in our face.
I started to make the first move as I want to break this awkward silence. Gradually, I lean over him, resting my head over his shoulder while eating my now liquid-sundae-ice-cream. Kai rest his head over my head and wrapped his left hand around my waists his response. We did not talk. Our brain couldn’t function very well at the moment as because we’re both in deep thought of what we just said awhile ago. We spent our last entire hour watching the sunset like that. No words came out to the both of us, because we already know what we feel and we’re certainly sure that we’re right about it.
“Atsuko… I love you.” Kai finally spoke up, breaking off the he silence. But I didn’t response quickly pretending that I did not hear what he said even though I heard it clearly, “Hmmm? Did you say something? I asked. I want to tease him even in a moment like this.
He remove his resting head over my head, grabbing both of my shoulder and turn my body in a position were in I’m facing him. With a blink of an eye his lips met mine; giving me an innocent yet very passionate kiss. My eyes grew a little wider from surprise. “Liar.” He then whispers as he broke the kiss. “I know you heard me.” My face turned red as he figured that I’m lying. As payback I kiss him back. It was a longer kiss than he does before which make the both of us falling in the sand.
“Uggh! You bite my lips!”
“You’re fault not mine!”
“Come here you midget!”
“Catch me if you can!”
And our day went well in the end.

The next day, after our class, we headed to the beach again before going home. Same place and same food. Chatting under the tall coconut tree, building sand castle and this time we brought water guns and we play with it. Kai mostly get hit by my water gun making him very wet. As for me, he always targeted my feet which make me very cold. As an official couple we did enjoy our time this day that we never realize that it’s time for us to go home.
When we arrive home, we didn’t expect that a lot of expensive cars were parked in front of our mansion. There must be a social gathering or a meeting inside our home. In front of our wide house door, the old man wearing an annoyed face, tapping his foot endlessly off the ground with his arm crossed and stared in our direction.
“Where in the world the two of you went with your uniform wet?” Asked the old man angrily to us.
“We’re deeply sorry, sir.” Kai apologized and bowed down in front of him. I didn’t a word instead gave the old man a disgusting look.
“Whatever. You, young lady,” he pointed at me, “Atsuko, change you clothe upstairs and go down to the visiting area immediately.” The old man ordered me. I can’t do anything but to follow or he may cut my allowance off. “Same goes to you Kai.” The old man then disappears in front of us and goes to one of the door which leads to the said ‘visiting area’.
Kai used the other stairs which leads to a separate house where the butler and maids are living and I used the right stairs. In the second floor of hallway, I found my brother in front of my room. We never really talk much to each other so it’s rare to see him waiting for me. “Hey.” He greeted me with a smile. I half smiled him and greeted him back.
“So rare to see you around. How have you been?”
“Fine. Thanks for asking.” He smiled for a few seconds then his face turns into a serious one. “Atsuko, have you heard that our company is near in bankruptcy?” I’m surprised with that statement. I couldn’t believe that my father business would fall like this so easily. I maintained a serious and calm face despite of what my brother has told me.
“I see. That explains a lot of expensive cars parked in front of our house then. Is there a meeting going on?”
“Yes. Not only that. I need you to listen carefully to me Atsu–” Our conversation was interrupted when another butler comes forward us. The butler told that our father was looking for my brother and ordered him to take Atsushi to the visiting area. My brother excuses his self to me and goes with the butler. Before her leaves, he gave me a mysterious sympathetic look. A look that I never seen before from him, it was like he’s saying ‘I’m sorry.’
What could my brother mean by that?
Wearing a simple floral dress, I headed to the visiting area where my father told me. When I open the door I saw a lot of unfamiliar face to me except for Kai who’s behind my father assisting him. My father who’s simply entertaining his guest called me and I went over him and beside Kai. My father introduces me to one of his young looking guest.
“Atsuko, I want you to meet Oshima Yuu. He’s going to be you future husband.”
“Hi my name is Oshima Yuu. Nice to meet you!” The unfamiliar person in front of me greeted me with a smile. I looked from my other side, I saw Kai, his eyes facing downward, making and emotionless face, and then looking at the other side, I found my brother with a serious face, also looking at me. Then back to the unfamiliar face in front of me. A feeling of confusion filled my entire mind. I couldn’t process what’s happening just now. Is this what my brother meant by his sudden appearance and our small talk in front of my room?

Forbidden Love with a Butler Finale
It was a cozy and pleasant afternoon at the Maeda household.
When suddenly…
“I’m borrowing Kai for a week!”
“Sure.”
Eeeeeeeh?
This guy in front of me, Atsuko’s older brother, Atsushi Maeda, pulled me away from Atsuko’s side forcefully without him even asking if it was ok with me. And Atsuko didn’t even bother to have any second thought and agreed easily. He ordered one of my cousins, his personal butler to come and be a substitute butler of me to Atsuko. After that, Atsushi ordered me to get ready and prepare his own red Lamborghini car and told me were going to have a very important thing to do.
I don’t know the reason why, but I prepared myself and Atsushi’s car immediately as he told me. His car inside is full of emergency oxygen tanks, oxygen masks and medicine which makes me feel like there something bad going to happen sooner or later. As Atsushi returned, he arrived with a big bag pack behind him. He grinned and taps my shoulder one at a time.
“We’re going to have some fun!”
A devilish smile can be seen across his face. I really sense some weird and bad thing going to happen. Not to mention, he once said before that he’s borrowing me for a week! I could only response with a I-don’t-like-what-is-going-to-happen-look. And Atsushi had read what I was thinking. He took a deep breath and exhales it as his face turned serious.
“If you love HER, then come with me.”
‘If you love her, then come with me.’ His word echoes inside my mind. If I love her? If I love who?
Atsuko’s smiling face flash inside my mind. A smile full of happiness. Her smile that… I last saw… Before the unexpected event happened months ago… I shook my head. How could I forget that? Since then, everything went fast before me. I remain quiet of everything that’s happening in the past months until now. And because of that, an invisible wall has been built bit by bit between me and Atsuko until everything became complicated and unsure of our relationship.
We never talked about what happened. We pretended that nothing happens between us. I tried to forget everything, but some part of me says that I still love her.
Kai, you love her and you know that.
The more I try to forget her, the more she pops inside my mind.
“Oiii! Stop daydreaming, you midget! Get in the car!” Atsushi’s voice snapped me back to present as he ordered me to drive his car.
It bothers me that Atsushi knows my relationship with Atsuko. I asked him why, how and when did he know about it. And It surprised me that he knows everything, from the day we confess to each other down to our silly childish wish. He told me that he always keep an eye to both of us from child till the present. Although, he said that he wasn’t expecting that the fall of his father’s company will led to Atsuko’s fix marriage.
“I’m not doing this for you midget, but for my sister.”
“Thank you, Atsushi-dono.”
“I’m just doing my job as Atsuko’s older brother. I want to change her view to me. I want her to see me as her caring older brother not a burden weakling brother. This is the only thing I could do to build a new and better sibling relationship to Atsuko. But of course, I can’t do that without the help from you, her real lover.” He smiled and tapped both of my shoulders. “To bring back our brother and sister relationship, I’m going to need you and to make both of your wishes come true, you’re going to need my help! So prepare yourself! We only have 5 days and 7 hours left!”
I nodded and smiled in response. Atsushi really care about Atsuko, but he never had the chance to show it to her. Atsuko in the other hand, has this tsundere characteristic, she never show any sign of caring but deep inside her I know she really care about her brother. Both Atsuko and Atsushi are having difficulties in communicating to each other since young, because of the comparison made by the people around them.
The first 2 days of our trip, was nothing but to stalk this Oshima guy. From where he lives, to where his office located and when he finally go home. Atsushi have all the personal data regarding to Oshima Yuu, including his habits and daily routines every day. According to Atsushi’s research, Yuu has a girlfriend. He was not sure if it was true for he don’t have any data regarding the girl. But Atsushi is confident that Oshima really has a girlfriend. He said that, they were once caught dating in the public by his fans. Oshima Yuu is one popular young-looking businessman and mostly featured in business magazines so he really does have lots of fans. Apparently, a group of paparazzi had seen them and took photos of them dating. Atsushi who really wants to investigate the girl had paid the paparazzi half a million just for the picture.
“Here’s the picture I got from the paparazzi.” Atsushi handed the photo and I took it. It was kind of blurred. The picture was taken outside a small café and the girl which Yuu’s dating has a long hair. That is all I can distinguished in the photo. “The paparazzi told me they often go to that café but never told where it was located.” Atsushi said as he removes his oxygen mask that is both covering his mouth and nose. I search unto the photo once again to find any clue regarding the café, but I didn’t find any clue to locate it.
“Kai! Look! Yuu is departing! I repeat, Yuu is departing!” Atsushi again removed his oxygen mask and panic as soon as he saw Yuu who’s simply walking out of his house.
“Shhhh, Calm down Atsushi-dono!” I put hi oxygen mask back to his mouth and nose. “If you make noise he may hear us.” Atsushi calm down as soon as I put the mask back, but he made an annoyed childish face. We watched Yuu as he start to ride his car then when he finally moved, we follow him in a distance. We would occasionally stop or sometimes use different route but still keep an eye on him, so he’ll never notice us.
It’s almost quarter to 9 in the evening! Where the hell is this Yuu guy going? Atsushi shouted in frustration. We’ve been following him for more than 30 minutes now. We haven’t eaten dinner and our stomach is already begging for food. ‘I’m hungry…” Atsushi complained. I didn’t utter a word instead focus on my driving and keeping an eye to Yuu’s car.
Another 30 minutes have passed. Our growling stomach stopped begging for food. Atsushi fall asleep while I keeps on fighting for drowsiness and still focusing on driving. Yuu haven’t reached his destination and so we are. We’ve been following him unto this endless road. Until we finally reach an intersection, Yuu take the right way, but when it’s my turn to take the right way, the traffic light turns red. Stop. I feel annoyed. So this is what it feels when your following someone and then the traffic light turns red before you could cross.
After 2 minutes of endlessly tapping of my index finger unto the steering wheel, finally the traffic light turns green. Quickly, I press the accelerator pedal with my right feet and steer the steering wheel to the right way. Since I can no longer see Yuu’s car, I decided to just follow the straight road. It was 10 pm in the evening. The whole place looks unfamiliar to me; I can no longer see any lights other than our car’s front light. It was like I entered a deep wood.
A little while later, I exited the quiet area and now entered to a place where I never been to. It was a small and countryside-like place. I first stop at a gasoline station I could see, to refill our gas tank. While waiting, I decided to roam around the area a little, leaving Atsushi asleep inside the car.
“A café.” I muttered to myself. In front of me lies a familiar small old-fashioned café. I immediately took the photo out of my pocket, the one that Atsushi gave before. I move it closer to my face, look at the café in front of me then back again at the photo. It is exactly the café in the photo, the one we’ve trying to locate.
“TAKAHASHI!” I turn around and found Atsushi running toward me with an oxygen mask by his right hand and a mini oxygen tank behind him. “YOU BLONDE MIDGET! How dare you leave me behind at the gasoline station? ...” He talks faster that I couldn’t understand what his talking about. He’s complaining that’s the only thing I could tell. “T-then a gasoline-guy pops in front of me asking for the payment! My heart almost jumps away from surprise! Can you just--”
“The café.” I pointed in front of us, before he could complain more.
“Oh my gosh! Food! Finally we could eat! I want a beefsteak!” Atsushi eyes widen and stopped complaining. He seems to forget what we’re after.
“No, I mean the café from the picture.” I handed the photo to him and he started to compare it. “See what I mean?”I explain it to him.
“Then, Yuu is just around here?”
“I’m not sure, we lost track of him.”
Since it was almost late at the evening, Atsushi and I decided to suspend our activity for today and decided to stay at a hotel we could find at the place. Atsushi went first inside the hotel and I first park the car in the hotel’s parking lot. When I finished parking the car and before I could walk back to the hotel, a dark blue car caught my eye. It was none but Yuu’s car. Immediately I walked straight inside the hotel, found Atsushi munching bananas.
“Oh… Your back… Here’s your room key.” Atsushi handed me the silver key. We then proceed at the hotel’s night bar to have a very late dinner. I didn’t bother telling him about Yuu being here, staying at the hotel, because if I let him know, he would hunt Yuu and will not rest which is bad for his health. I make sure he would rest and stay by his room door until he sleeps. After that, I went down to the first floor, over the counter and ask some of the workers a few questions.
“Good evening, sir. How may I help you?”
“Oh... Good evening. I was just wondering if there is a guy named Oshima Yuu staying here. Was there any?”
“Yes sir. He’s a regular customer here. Would you like me to arrange a meeting for you?”
“No… No… It’s alright. Maybe, next time.”
After asking few more question, I learned that he’s staying at room 202 and that he always stays here at the hotel every weekends. I asked why and the bellboy told me that Oshima often visit a girl with the named Kojima Haruna.
“Is she an acquaintance of Oshima?”
“I don’t know anything of that, sir. But I believe that there’s a rumor from before that they were dating.”
“Oh… Do you know anything about the girl? Where she lives? Something likes that.”
The bellboy told me everything about Kojima Haruna. And the girl seems quite popular around this area. He told me that she’s easy to indentify. The bellboy told me that, she lives in an orphanage house outskirts the town, she have long dark brown hair and has a nice and cheerful personality.
After our little chit-chat, I bid him a goodnight and gave him a small tip for giving me some useful info about Kojima Haruna and then went straight to my room to have a peaceful sleep.
Day 3
(3 days and 8 hour left.)
The next day, sun’s bright ray wakes me. Change into casual attire, did my morning tooth brushing and then went out of my room. I knocked on Atsushi’s room but he didn’t response, so without having his permission, I went and open his door, only to find him still in deep slumber. I didn’t wake him, hence I let him continue his sleep and wrote a short note in piece of paper and put it above the small table besides his bed.

After leaving Atsushi’s room, I went down at the lobby and ask again the bellboy from yesterday night if Oshima has gone out of his room.
“Yes, sir. I believe he’ll be going to a mini market near the gasoline station.”
“I see. Thanks again.”
Since it was a small town and almost all of the establishments were just near to each other, I decided to just walk to the said market instead of using a car.
As the bellboy told me, Yuu is indeed on the mini market, picking up some grocery bags and he put it behind his car’s storage room. Shortly after that, he made a short stop in front of the café and when he comes back, he’s with a girl. And I believe it was none other than Kojima Haruna. I’ve come to think of it as their meeting place. Surely, their next stop is in the orphanage house. Thank goodness, the gasoline seller was kind enough to let me rent his mountain bike and I was able to follow both Yu und Haruna.
I hide in the bushes a few meters away from them. When they arrived, they were welcomed by a group of children, holding a long banner that has a ‘Happy Birthday’ print on it, others were holding balloons. It must be the girl’s birthday for she’s wearing red dress. Yuu then handed a bouquet flower to Haruna and hugs her. Seeing those scenery made me enrage and wants to punch Oshima Yuu’s face. Why? He’s engage yet he’s still dating someone else! If he loves Kojima then why can’t he just say it?
Damn to the people who invented fix marriage or contract marriage!
I took a deep breath and slowly depart away from my hiding place. I could feel my eyes start to burn, strange feelings of anxiety start to spread throughout my body. My eyesight starts to blurred, as tears start to form in my eyes. And my brain starts to think of its own, asking lots of questions.
Why am I born as a butler?
Why am I not born like Oshima Yuu?
Shiririririri bum bum THUDUMP!!
Blank.
Everything became blank…
“Tsk… Tsk… Someone faint in the middle of nowhere, ee?”

Day 4
(2 days and 6 hours left)
I woke up and find myself to an unfamiliar place. I lift up my upper body as I realize what just happened before. I fainted in the outskirts of the town.
“Oh! Ohayou! I see you’re awake!” Someone unknown greeted me, it was a girl. “You fainted at the outskirts of the town yesterday. I couldn’t bring you back to the hotel, so I decided to just bring you to my home since it was more nearer.”
“Thank you…. Hmmmm? Wait a minute! How’d you know I was staying in the hotel?”
She sighed and walked behind a door, grabbing something. When she returns, I totally freak out. She’s actually the ‘bellboy’ from the hotel I was staying!
“The name is Kasai Tomomi. I know you’re in deep confusion right now. I work on the hotel as a bellboy, but no one knows that I’m actually a girl except you in the hotel.
“Eh? But why? Would it be dangerous for a girl like you to have a job that is only suitable for males? I looked at her from top to bottom; indeed it was her without fail.
“It was a very loooooooong story.”
“Well, I have time to spare. I smiled at her.
“Ok then Mr. persistent-guy, ready your ears.” Kasai ordered as she went back again behind the door to remove her bellboy uniform and put it back. Then she returns, sat on the chair and began her story.
“There is this someone who ‘almost’ has the same name as me. His name is Itano Tomo. We share the same hobby and interest and gets along very well. We were called the wTomo by our friends; Haruna and Yuu are the one who came up with that idea.” I was surprised to know that she knows Yuu and Haruna personally; I bumped to the right person.
“Yes, I know them personally. We’re all childhood friend who grew up in this place. Both of us, I, Haruna and Tomo lives in the orphanage house while Yuu lives with her grandmother. It was a month before Christmas, a man visited the orphanage, he stated that he’s a cousin of Tomo’s late father and wants to have Tomo with him. The orphanage can’t do anything about it for he has supporting documents regarding it. All of us were sad about the departing of Tomo. That’s when Yuu introduce as to a silly Seashell Wishing.” I laughed a little when Kasai said that, because I did that together with someone too.

“It was a silly thing to do, but the 4 of us went to a beach nearby to collect seashells. I could remember all of our wishes correctly.” Kasai paused for a second and laughed. She told me, Yuu wished first but it doesn’t really sounds like a wish but a promise to Haruna. “Yuu wished to marry Haruna in the future. Tomo, in the other hand, doesn’t want to be defeated, he also wished the same; he wished to marry me someday. A month later, Tomo went away with his uncle. He sends as letter every month, until one day he stopped. At the same time, an unexpected sad situation came to Yuu, his grandmother died and was forced to go lived with her parents in the city. “Haruna and I were left, but Yuu promised to send as letter and will not stop not unlike Tomo do.”
Kasai’s story is making me cry.
“5 years later, I heard that Tomo went back here with his uncle and opened the hotel business. I and Haruna went over the town to see his comings, he grew handsome and cool, but he didn’t recognize us when we greeted him. We asked his uncle, he told us that Tomo got in an accident and apparently lost his memory temporarily. That’s when I pretend to be a guy and applied for job in the hotel just to teach that Tomo a lesson because he forgot us!”
The story ends unexpectedly, Kasai starts to release dark aura around her and start murmuring… Chiyuus?
“In order to punish that Tomo, I beg you not telling anyone in the hotel that I’m a girl.”
“Of course, I wouldn’t.” Who would try not to obey her if she’s releasing this kind of dark atmosphere around her?
“So tell me, what’s your relation to Yuu?” She finally asked me.
“Like yours, it’s a very long story too.”
“My ears are ready.” She pointed both of her index fingers in her ears and chuckled.
Since she’s all persistent, I gave up and tell her all.
“T- That’s h- heart-breaking!” Her eyes were all teary and red. She cried in the entire time when I told her the reasons. “Why didn’t Yuu-idiot tell me about this? Why did he agree in the fix marriage? He’s dating Haruna! I need to teach Yuu a lesson too! ”She’s about to go out of her house and grabbed a hammer, looking for Yuu and wants to hit him with it. I grasp her shoulder tight to stop her until she calmed down.
“Kasai-san! Stop! We’ve already have plans for that.”
“Plans?”
“Yes.”
Day 5
(1 Day left.)
“WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GO, LEAVING ME 2 DAYS HERE?”
I went back in the hotel together with Kasai. I face-palmed expecting this would happen. Atsushi complained again.
“I fainted in the outskirts. This bellboy took care of me.” I explained.
Atsushi bowed down in front of Kasai. “Thank you for taking care of my stupid bu— er.. I mean friend.”
“Stop acting like that.” I sighed. “We need to discuss something.”
I told Atsushi everything I have learned and introduce Kasai to him. At first he couldn’t believe it but then he created a plan for tomorrow’s big event. Atsushi and I fix our belongings and check out from the hotel after we discuss the plans. We’ve told Kasai to bring Haruna at exactly 12 am in the café by tomorrow, our meeting place. She agreed and gave us her contact number.
After that, we leaved the small town and then headed to my house, Takahashi house.
“Are you sure you would told them about this?” Atsushi asked me seriously as I parked our car in front of our house.
“Of course. I hoped they’ll understand me.”
We got out of the car and press the door bell. My mom opened it and was surprised by our unexpected visit.. Oka-san hurriedly takes us in the living room and called my dad out. As soon they were complete, I decided to start talk to them seriously but then Atsushi talked first making the atmosphere different. He acted like a child in front of my parents.
“Oba-san!! I miss you!! I miss your cooking!”
“Ah... Atsushi, you’ve grown tall not unlike our son, still midget!”
“Mom!” I shouted.
“He never drinks his milk, Oba-san.”
“How will Acchan like you if you never grew a little?” My father jokily said. It was supposed to be a joke my father made, but Atsushi and I fell in silence.
“Ehem.” I cleared my throat. “Otou-san and Oka-san I need to tell you something very importa--.”
“Did Acchan say ‘YES’?” My mom asked excitedly.
“Or Acchan is ‘PREGNANT’?! Son, we’re proud of you! Takahashi family rejoices! ” My father jokily said as he throw a thumbs-up on me. From surprise, I automatically smacked my father’s head. Atsushi only laugh while munching a food my mom cooked for him. We expect it to be serious discussion but it turn out in the comedic way.
“Can you guys let me finish first?” I sighed.
“Midg—er… I mean son, I and your mom trust you, and all of your decisions will be respect. If you love her, go get her! Don’t let her escape from you!”
“But I haven’t talked yet.”
“You’re my son and I know everything.” My father and my mom gave me a warm and supporting smile.
In this point, I have my mind on set now.
Maeda Atsuko.
The next morning, I woke up around 9 in the morning. Atsushi had to return to the Maeda household earlier for the event preparations, so when I woke up my father handed me a letter from Atsushi, telling me not to forget the plans.
I started to prepare myself and at exactly 10am I was on my way to the small town, but world sure loves mocking me. 1 hour has passed yet my car wasn’t able to move a bit from the heavy traffic. I only have 4 hours left. The heavy traffic continued for another hour but I was able to move after I crossed the intersection. I speed up in the woods not even bothering to obey the rules about safety driving.
I arrived safely in our meeting place. Haruna was clueless of what’s happening. All she knows is that Kasai invited her to meet up with me regarding the orphanage.
2 hours left.
“I’m sorry, I was late! Heavy traffic in the intersection.”
Kasai nodded and told Haruna to go inside the car. “Let’s get going we better not late.”
“What do you mean, Chiyuu?”
“No time for explanation!”
I nodded and start the engine of our car.
I receive a message from Atsushi, telling me to hurry up since the event is almost about to start and he need Haruna now. If I could teleport right now, I would do it. If only teleport things exist in this cruel world. The traffic isn’t different from before. I decided to make a detour and used other ways and successfully evaded the heavy traffic.
“Kai it’s 1:16pm!”
“Were almost near!” I shouted.
“Near where?” asked the clueless Haruna.
“I can’t see any church near!”
My forehead and my hands start to sweat and my heart starts to beat faster than its usual beat.
I want to be with Kai forever even if he’s a midget.
I love you Kai
….
I could hear those words being whisper in my mind. Atsuko, please one more minute! I wiped my sweat in my forehead and sped up to the church.
1:20pm
As we arrived, I open the car’s door and quickly pulled Haruna from the back seat. The three of us quickly headed inside the church. We just arrived just in time. Atsuko just reached the altar and exchanging vows was not yet done.
“WAIT!” I shouted inside. The entire crowd were surprised by me. The playing piano stopped and so are the church’s choirs. Atsushi stood up together with his father, Atsuhiro. Atsuko’s gloomy face enlighten a little after she sees me and Yuu was also surprise when he sees me with Haruna.
“What’s the meaning of this?!” Atsuhiro asked me yet I didn’t bother answering him and continued walking in the aisle toward the church’s altar. Everyone is really surprised even Yuu’s family, that none of them was able to speak. Only Atsushi dare talked and give me a light punch on shoulder when I was close to the altar.
“You’re late.”
I only nodded and continue walking toward the altar with my eyes not looking anywhere but to Atsuko’s.
“I’m here taking what’s MINE and BRING what’s yours.” I shifted my eyes to Oshima and pointed at the church’s opening, where Haruna standing clueless with Kasai. Without waiting for his response I quickly grabbed Atsuko away from his side.
“I’m sorry for making you wait.” I smiled at Atsuko and kiss her almost-want-to-cry-face and then we run away from the altar smiling and ignoring the people who are in the aisle.
When we reach the church’s door, Atsuko stopped for a moment and made a little talk to Haruna.
“Here take this.” Atsuko handed her flower to Haruna. “It’s now officially your wedding not mine anymore.” Haruna didn’t take it at first but then Atsuko pointed at the altar. “Look at him, he’s waiting for you. Don’t let him wait.” Haruna’s tear start to roll to her cheeks and so was Kasai, she’s been crying since the beginning. Haruna then nodded and start walking at the aisle. Before we could continue to get away, Yuu called us.
“WAIT! Atsuko and Takahashi!” He bowed down at the altar and said, “Thank you very much for this!”
We only smiled and take our leave. The crowd only remain in silence even Atsuko’s father couldn’t do anything as we depart from the church. I can’t blame Oshima for this for he too was forced over this fix marriage made by their parents.
After driving away from the church, I stopped in front of the beach that holds a lot of memory and asked Atsuko few questions.
“Anywhere you want to go? My treat for making you wait long.” I smiled at her. Atsuko smiled and hugged me tightly and whispered,
“As long as I’m with you anywhere would be fine.”
“I love you Kai.”
“Yeah… I love you too Atsuko.”

A sigh escaped from the tall girl as she watched from a distance with her hands cupped over her cheeks and elbows resting on the window’s sill. She always has been watching him, since the beginning of their high school term until these present years. He was her unrequited love. She tried to write numerous love letters for him but none was given. She has no guts at all. He was not that popular. However, his simplicity and kindness attracted her when she first encountered him during the opening ceremony in their high school. ‘Guess it’s not my lucky day again.’ She thought to herself as she leaved her current place and goes to another place where she could fully have a nice view of him.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
It was her heavy footsteps. For the nth time she is again at the rooftop and watching his soccer practice. It was not really a good view for her to watch him from the rooftop. She believes that if she will watch near the soccer field there might a chance she will be hit by a ball, accidentally. Although, that was just an excuse she made. Watching him nearer would be weird once he caught her looking at him and she does not want to be called a stalker. Thus, she chose the rooftop. Binoculars are the only friends of her.
“When… Oh… When?” She clutches her fist and another sigh had escaped from her lips. Bringing down her binoculars she reached for her pocket and gets the white envelope, she always has with her. “I wonder when I will be able to give this to you…” She muttered, flipping the white envelope.
Whoosh.
A sudden strong wind came. It blew the white envelope away from her and fell off down to the grassy field of the ground floor. “Eh...?” She blinked several times as she realized what happened. The white envelope that contains the love letter had flown away from her. She immediately look from below to where it landed and somewhat felt relieve when she saw it landed to a less visible place. However, a shadow started to move closer to the place where the white envelope was. She wanted to shout that the white envelope belongs to her but; she could not do it as she saw who picked it up.
It was none other than him. Watanabe Mayu-kun. Her unrequited love.
He picked it up and was surprised to see his name written over the white envelope. He looked from his left and then right side to search the one who accidentally dropped it. On the other hand, back to the rooftop, she ducked down as soon as she saw him picked the white envelope. She felt her stomach filled with butterflies, nervous. “Kashiwagi Yuki, what to do now?” She continuously repeated to herself.
That night, Yuki could not sleep well because of what happened. Questions filled her head of ‘what ifs’. What if he turned me down? What if he already has someone he likes? And so on…
“I’m so doomed.”
Morning has come. Yuki only slept for 3 hours. The blackish colors below her eyes are the proofs of her lack in sleep. What is more a bad news to her? Their section is having a new seating arrangement. She was seated right beside Mayu-kun. She did not like it but she kind of like it. What is actually happening? Her thoughts where rumbled. She could not focus. She wished that she were a ninja that can hide or disappear in a matter of second just because of embarrassment.
“Kashiwagi-san glad to be your seatmate for this new semester.” Mayu-kun lightly smiled at her, making Yuki redden and only response with a nod. The entire school hours made Yuki unfocused. She cupped her face with her hands so no one can see how red her face was. Although, there is a certain time that Mayu-kun would look at her. He noticed that she is acting a bit strange. He wanted to ask if Yuki is feeling ill but when he is about to try, Yuki intentionally move her hands a bit to make her pencil fell on the floor and reach for it. She did that on purpose, trying not to have any conversation or interaction with Mayu-kun. However, Mayu-kun is somewhat persistent person and still asked her, anyhow.
“Kashiwagi-san, are you by a chance not feeling well?” He whispered and had those concerned yet calming expression.
“Yes… I mean… No… I’m alright.” Yuki responded in a not-so believable manner. Mayu-kun only smiled and raised his hand.
“Sensei! Excuse me I need to go to clinic with Kashiwagi-san. She’s feeling ill.” He had read her. Yuki was surprised and cannot utter a single word.
“Ah… Please do so.” The sensei gave them the permission.
Mayu-kun escorted Yuki to the school’s clinic and let her stay on the bed while he tried to find the medicines and thermometer.
“Hmm… You really have a fever Kashiwagi-san. The thermometer says 37.5 Degree Celsius. You better rest and drink this.” Mayu-kun took some medicine in the medical kit and handed the medicines to Yuki.
“But why are you helping me?” Yuki asked.
“Rest and drink this medicine and you will be fine.” Mayu-kun smiled. He just ignored her question. “I will be back now I still have soccer practice. See you around later.”
For the second time around, Yuki fell in love to this person. She cannot believe that he would figure that she is feeling ill. It somewhat made her happy. She clearly had forgotten about the white envelope. Feeling all tired she fell asleep for an hour and a half.
Tick-tock. Tick-tock.
It was 2 o’clock in the afternoon when Yuki woke up. At first, she lightly opens her eyes. Then realizing the time, she thought about Mayu-kun’s soccer practice. She jumps out of the bed, “Ah! Mayu-kun’s soccer practice will start now! – Oh…. Ouch… My head...” From the great force she used, her head came dizzy and automatically fell down on the floor.
“A-no… Kashiwagi-san daijoubu?”
Shhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrr…
The white curtains in the school’s clinic opened, revealing Mayu-kun holding a glass of water and a pitcher. He lay down the glass of water and the pitcher down to the table next to the bed and walks to where Yuki is. She was sitting in a terribly position on the floor with her face buried on the bed’s cover sheets and hands resting on top of her head. “Kashiwagi-san?” A voice again followed.
‘A voice? Mayu-kun is here?’ Yuki thought herself. She lightly bites her lips. She could not believe it. “How long have you been here?” She asked yet still did not move from her current position.
“Hmmm... About 2 hours… I think.”
“How about your soccer practice?”
“I skipped it.”
“Eh, why?”
“There’s more important to that.”
“And that is what?”
“You.”
Yuki did not utter a word and an awkward silence came.
“Yuki? Stand up… You’ll catch colds if you will stay on the floor longer.”
“Hai…” Yuki responded but she still did not stand or moves even an inch.
Mayu-kun shook his head. He bends his knees down and he moved his face closer to Yuki’s ear. “Psst… Yuki, suki dayo.”
“……”
Goodness…. Just what on the world is going on? Yuki’s heart may explode any minute. Although, Yuki pretended not to hear what he said. “What?” Yuki asked as she finally revealed her red as tomato face she got from fever and embarrassment to Mayu-kun.
“Kashiwagi Yuki su-ki da-yo!” Mayu-kun happily said as he poked Yuki’s red nose. “I like you ever since.”
“You probably had read the letter, don’t you?” Yuki shyly asked.
“Ehh? What do you mean? What letter?” Mayu-kun grabbed something inside his pocket and showed it to Yuki. “Do you probably mean this? I never opened it, actually…” It was the white envelope.
All this time, the white envelope that contains the love letter that gives Yuki a trouble and a headache was just useless. All of her worries were just useless. Mayu-kun never actually opened it. His reason is that there is no name of who made the letter. It was a silly reason. It made Yuki somewhat bad but happy at the same time. Yuki only laugh loud as she realized it by now. Mayu-kun on the other hand, stared at Yuki and asked her why.
“Nee… Mayu-kun, do you know, that white envelope is the actually the cause of my fever?”
“Eh..? Why?”
“It’s a looooong story...but still…”
“Suki dayo… Baka!”
It was not unrequited love after all.

Under the blue sky and grassy field, I sleep. The cool spring wind blows through my sleeping face. The flowers and trees dances in harmony. Behind the tall tree is where she secretly hides. I could imagine her heartwarming laughs as she peeks on me. Bit by bit, she started to move and go to where I am sleeping. I pretended that I did not notice her. After a few seconds, she caressed my face and gave me a surprise kiss. I giggled a little. When I opened my eyes, I had seen her again, smiling and never aged.
‘Did my voice reach you?’
She lightly tilted her head and smiled again.
How much time has passed? It is been three years since we last met.
She held my hand and lay besides me. I could do nothing but just stare at her beauty, wanting to cherish every seconds we still have. I smiled when our eyes met. She poked my nose and giggled soundless. I never return her poke. I am afraid. Afraid of¬ – I do not even know.
She suddenly pinched my cheeks forceless and gave me a bored face. She draws an imaginary curve line in my face, telling me to smile.
‘Ah, I’m sorry’ and I smiled again.
It is just that… It is sad knowing our time will probably end soon.
She smiled again and gave me thumbs up sign. After that, she stretched her hands up and faced the sky and I continued to watch her in daze.
Tap. I felt numerous light taps in my shoulder.
‘Hmm?’ I mumbled. She pointed above the sky. I looked up. The blue sky was now filled with beautiful cottony clouds. Sunset was getting near.
‘You have been there, right? Can you see me from there?’
She nodded a bit sad. It must be very lonely, but it is lonelier here.
The sky starts changing into reddish orange. The sun is setting. Our time ends here
Tap. Another tap from her. This time it was different tap. It was a goodbye.
‘Are you going now?’
She nodded.
‘Well then… Take care.’ Tears were forming in my eyes but I force myself to smile before she goes away.
She nodded again. She draws an imaginary curve line again, telling me to be always happy. Then she waves her hands to me, her final goodbye.
‘I love you’ those words echoes as the wind breezes after she vanished.
‘I still love you. Forever.’ I whispered.
…
It was night now and the sky was littered with beautiful stars.
I wonder was it just a dream? It feels real. I felt sad and happy. Happy, because we met again. Sad, well of course because she returns above.
Real or not, I am thankful to see her again.
‘Thank you for letting her reached my voice.’
