Well...if Yossie is really graduating, then technically she's the next from Rika, I think. They didn't mention anything about Yaguchi's graduation at all, just her resigning.
Maybe Yagu was fed up with the group and wanted to go solo, so she set up this whole thing. :P

Thank you for always supporting morning musume. Today concerning morning musume there is an important announcment. As of today, 2005 April 14 (thursday) morning musume's leader yaguchi mari, will quit and go onto solo activities.
April 15, 2005 (friday) will be the sale of the picture weekly, "friday" containg a report on yaguchi mari. This article containg a photograph of the night of April 10, 2005 has come to the attention of this orginization. Concerning this, yaguchi herself has reported this to this company and there has been many countless meetings. In these meetings, the group morning musume which has the love of many fans, have supported this growth as an idol group.
With in morning musume, there are minors and ones behavior must be concerned. And as a leader of morning musume, one must be self concious.
Yaguchi Mari must live as an indivisual 22 year old. And in the core of this there was a serious talk. With in these talks, Yaguchi mari, looks back as an idol, and with the thoughts of the supporting fans, and thinking of taking responibility of herself, the result was a dissapointing result for all. As leader of morning musume, she no longer has the qualitifications. Futher more she will no longer stand in front of the fans as a member of morning musume. She said "please let me resign from morning musume" IN these words, activities as a talent is also open to resignation.
However, yaguchi mari, entering as second generation member, has tried more than others for 7 years, always looking foward, always diligent to fill the stage with energy.
Again appearing alone on shows, seeing her large personality as a talent. Further more, in this event much consideration has been put forth. And from this event forth, as a member of this company yaguchi mari will go forth in solo activities, she has ackknoleged this. Though it is a horribly dissapointing thing, everyone forgive us, and please watch over yaguchi mari warmly.
At this time, her future activities are not decided. HOever it is sad, yaguchi mari will refuse all concert from April 14, 2005. Please accept this situation. Further more, from now on the leader will be Yoshizawa Hitomi.

To the always always, intensly supporting fans, im very sorry. I have always been trying my hardest these 7 years. From the time i knew nothing, till today as a leader, I have never been lost on stage. With the graduations of seniors, and the self of now, there are many times i have felt i have become an adult. There are members of morning musume.And they are called idols. And we have stood in front of the fans many times.. All of this i have pride in, I think of this as a present from god.
This time's disturbance, i think has been a betrayal to my idol self. Again My qualification as a leader again has been lost, i think. For this reason i cannot continue on in this situation, i have decided to take responibility and quit morning musume. The result is i will continue with solo activities.
I have many feeling of remorse to all the people who support morning musume. Yaguchi mari will one more time repair things. Please look at yaguchi mari as one who has become an adult. Please look favorably on me.
Well that was shocking and dissapointing i wont see her at the concert.... messed up man even the aya incident was smothed over. I guess UFA doesnt have the pull it had before... oh well there are many mistakes on this thing but i dunno translating this which is rather formal and with like 10 ways to say im sorry (seriously one sentence was like saying super please sorry about this) and i cut out some of that really repetitive stuff. I dunno yaguchi has never been a favorite but seeing her gone ill miss her much more than probaly all the other girls who have graduaed up to this point.
edit, attempted to fix some of the more horrible spelling mistakes...yeah shouldnt spend half an hour doing this with profreading >< there are still mistakes but im sure there will be better translations comeing along soon, this news has now come out on all the major boards.

On JPM, I joked that she was missing Kaori. But in reality, I wonder if there's something more ominous going on. I mean, why does she have to quit because she was seen on a date? That could be her cousin, or bodyguard or whatever -- It's not like they're kissing or holding hands...they could easily come up with some explanation if they wanted to. It seems to me that either SHE wanted to quit in the first place or, UFA wanted her out. It just seems too much of a coincidence that of all the members, the oldest one gets forced out. The question is, was it just her desire to quit, or is there some kind of shake up taking place at UFA, maybe they're trying to force out all the older members one by one. (Or in Nacchi's case, she's made to endure public humiliation and probably permanently reduced status in H!P)
Obviously, none of us are insiders and any conclusions will be speculative. But still, what do y'all think?

Yikes dunno about this, i mean yoshizawa was the one who said that once yaguchi decides upon something there is nothing that can change her mind. Shes the type whos really gung ho about her decisions, i think she thought alot about this and this was her decision. I mean matsuura rided out her scandal pretty well and i think mari couldve as well, i think she feels this is something she needs to do. It does suck though...... and my god i fear for rika please oh god friday wait till she graduates :cry:
Man 2 am, my typing errors become worse than normal... i should sleep, but no. Oh there could always be the pregnancy rumors, this guy is married?, Who knows but as it says in the article her "solo" carrer is not set in stone, and in her declaration she was open to a retirment from all activities. I fear she is going to be another kei, who may appear even less. I think though if she becomes a full idol and rides this out well than itll probaly be something she was wanting to this and this was just a catalyst. I guess time will kinda tell...

That's what I'm wondering, too. Didn't BUBKA published a pic of her and some dude smooching years ago? No one did anything about that. This whole thing is just too weird, but we'll never get to know the truth anyway.
To be honest, I can't see her having a solo singing career. I meam, yeah, she can sing, but she looks more like a group person to me. But she won't just "disappear" like Kei. Even if she won't sing, she'll have TV jobs, I'm sure. She's too big of a money maker for UFA to drop her. I think she'll lay low for a big while (dunno what's gonna happen with Yaguchi Hitori, tho), possibly even longer than Nacchi since it looks it's so sudden, so they probably haven't planned anything for her.
I just thought about when Kaori was on Matthew's show and she said there were 5 girls that she thought hold the key to H!P's future; Yaguchi, Goto, Rika, Miki and Matsuura. Two down, three to go.

When I first read through the article, I thought the photos were going to be way worse than that...but it seemed quite lame for evidence that would end Mari's MM career.
Maybe it was her decision and not the UFW's...at this stage, I think she's just fed up, maybe the UFW wanted her to do something that she didn't want to do...Dunno, but this was way lame compare to the 'kissing photos'
It's a sahme that one of the hardest-working members of MM doesn't get to have a proper farewell...

Mari was one of the backbones of Morning Musume and what will happen to MM now when Rika is leaving soon? Tsunku should start looking for girls with great personalities instead of just one ace for MM.
I agree that Mari feels more like a group person. And even though she is funny and got a great personality I also have hard seeing her as a solo singer. At least she wouldn't be one of H!P's top album or single sellers. I think she would do much better with TV jobs. Her interview with Nicolas Cage was one of the funniest H!P moments I've ever seen. :D

I gotta admit that these guys are good. The leader of Morning Musume was taken down two weeks before their new single and in the middle of Rika's graduation tour. Aya got Friday'd right before her best of album and Nacchi's scandal saw the light of day right before H!P Allstars. And wasn's she supposed to have a Hawaii tour and get a new single? Fo real it can't be a coincidence. I'm afraid that Rika will be the next victim. If those rumoured dating pics really exist they will be released either right before her graduation concert or before the new Viyuden single/tour. This shit is getting more and more fucked up. Tsunku should just stop looking for the new ace and disband the group. To be brutally honest I will never support Morning Musume if Yossi is the leader. This truely is the beginning of a very horrible end. Morning Musume without Mari and Rika will flop miserably.
The funny thing is that Rika's graduation tour suddenly became Mari's grad tour too and Mari ain't getting a concert. Unfortunately this scandal will fuck up Rika's concert too :(

Okay, I don't think her resignation has that much to do with paparazzi shots. Tama-chan mentioned years ago when Bubka came out with a picture of her kissing some dude with an afro and an article about him "orally stimulating her clitoris." Seriously. Maybe, if she was already unhappy, something like that could've pushed her over the edge. But I seriously doubt that it was just this one thing.
In my opinion, this was a long time coming. The difference, in age alone, between Mari and the other girls in the group is a big deal. But this is not some snap decision. I think Mari is too smart for that. There is either something going on that we don't know about and may or may not ever hear about at all or this was a decision that she's been considering for a very long time. Maybe both.
Someone joked that she was pregnant on JPM and that was deemed inappropriate. But something like that really wouldn't surprise me in this situation. Who else has left H!P as suddenly as this? Rinne, Michiyo, Rika Ishii and maybe those Sheki-dol girls are the only ones I can think of. But this is Mari. You'd think they'd at least try to capitalize on her leaving with a big grad concert and some other crap. Maybe she's not pregnant or something that's such a big deal but I don't think that this is just some temper tantrum over a tabloid.

While I don't think the tabloid's the cause of this, it just doesn't seem it's long planned neither. I mean, why now? why now? Right before Rika grads? The only ones that can hold on MoMusu are Yaguchi and Yossi. Assuming 7th gen has less of an effect than Goto did when she joined, MM will surely collapse.

The more sober I am (from the shock and 'sadness'), the more I think something just ain't right with this whole incident. In the official announcement, it says that she felt responsible for this and decided to quit now? Or some say this is UFA's punishment and they fired her now? Why now? MM's new single is coming out soon, there are probably some tv shows that haven't been taped yet, and they're still on tour. Why can't they [UFA and Yaguchi] just wait for 3 more weeks to do this? This can't be in the best interest of the group. Everything is just so weird. I'm starting to think that she's getting married or something, but then again, 3 more weeks, why can't they wait?

I think they mean she'll be doing solo activities, not necessary having a solo singing career. Then, she'll be labelled as a Talent, not an Idol.

I don't think she's gonna be solo singer, like Maki or Nacchi, either, I hope she continues in Yaguchi Hitori or other TV shows... Even Kei is in Hello!Morning!

and she was the only reason why i got into this H!P in the first place. first saw her cute sexy face in the "ai araba" video on some internet TV stream (i've only known about MM since December). she is also the only reason why i watch H!M every weekend even though i don't understand one word they're saying..but i keep watching just to catch a glimpse of her. now i'm not too sure if i'll continue watching it...
to be honest, personally i could care less that she left MM - or maybe even H!P. i just really hope she doesn't leave the entertainment industry for good. this girl is what the entertainment industry needs - a person who always bring a smile to people's faces :)

Well, Namie is divorced AND a single mom, but with all due respects to her and her career, she's not doing as well as she did in her prime. Despite that, Utada and Amuro are bad examples to compare with Yaguchi because the former aren't "idols" in the same sense that Yaguchi and the other MM members are. I think their fanbase are a bit more mature and more diverse age wise, so I don't think that you'd see too many complaints in regards to them having relationships at this point.
The MM girls on the otherhand still have to cater to the fantasy that they are single, pure, and waiting for the right fanboy to sweep them off their feet. Granted, I seriously don't believe that all - or even MOST - MM fans in Japan still think this way, but I believe that the media over there does and could turn this into a nasty campaign against H!P if they wanted.
Overall, I think Yaguchi made the right decision, I just question the timing because of how out of the blue it really is. If we are to go by the belief that these photos in "Friday" aren't the only reason she decided to quit, then somebody out there in Japan must have had more information that has yet to be revealed. If that info is a pregnancy, marriage, or just something more personal, then she and UFA made the right decision.

Fuck that's right, we haven't really considered how this is gonna affect Yossi. At least with Yuuko and Kaori's grads, their successors had time to prepare themselves for the responsibilities of being leader. But Yossi is getting thrown in cold turkey. Yossi now has to be the main spokesperson for MM in interviews and what not. I hope that in upcoming interviews they don't bombard the girls (and Yossi in particular) with questions asking their opinions on Mari's actions. There's no need to prolong what's obviously a traumatic few days for them.

Its when in 2002 tsunku announced the graduation of maki, kei from mm, and the graduation of mari from mini moni and the complete restrcuturing of all the sub-groups stemming from morning musume. It was big news, i think it was at least a hundred pages 24 hours after first posted in JPM, but that was back before mm-bbs and JPM had split and membership was pretty high i think, and hell lets face it mm was just way more popular back then.

I must confess, even though I was really sad about the incident, I am now a bit pissed off at the decision. I don't know who made it and I'll most likely never know, but that doesn't matter. I still don't understand...this dicision was made in whose best interest? They're promoting the new single, some shows have already been taped but now I keep hearing that they're gonna cut the part where Yaguchi gave the bouquets to Rika off of Utaban and Music Fighter. And there are probably some shows thar haven't been taped yet. They're also still on tour and now they have to reassign the lines and rearrange the positions in the choreography. And this pretty much screwed up the PR for the grad concert, too. And what about Yossie? She suddenly becomes a leader. Is she ready? Can she deal with it? And what about the other girls? How bad they must be feeling now that they're losing 2 members that they rely on to? I fucking hate this.

what I find hardest to accept about all this is the suddeness of it all. It's like: strike 1 2 3 YOU'RE OUT!!!!
I realize that the fact that she's got a boyfriend was made public could have negative effect on MM, but it's not like she can change that now. Why not stay on for a few weeks more and do a double grad concert along with Rika?
As as big Mari fan I would find it much easier to accept.
Then she and the others would at least get to say their goodbyes, and she could continue on with H!P and on H!M. But because of the suddeness of it all, it feels like Tsunku just told her to get out of the house and never come back, and then burning all the stuff she leaves behind (removing her from already-taped shows).
I feel that I have something more to say, but I just can't find the right words at the moment, just writing these words has brought tears to my eyes :cry:

I hope she'll give out the speech in the noon concert (as well as the night), so that I'll have time to know about this before going home with no internet. :(
What is she gonna say? Will she cry? Will she have a mental breakdown in front of the audience? Will she tough it out? Will she just make some generic comments? Ahh... i hope there will be a concert rip.

Considering the sacrifice that she made, he'd BETTER make her happy. He indirectly proclaimed that he loved her in that clip Philosoranter provided here (from Hello! Tracker):

SHE WAS A HO AND EVERYBODY KNEW!!!! (while she was married and had a child she still went out with other men) the only time ppl really got upset what when she had an affair with her rival's (akina nakamori) boyfriend and akina tried to kill herself because of it. Now if mari did something like that then yeah, she needs to leave but all mari did was get caught walking (not even kissing or hugging) with her b/f. It's alright mari. all i can say is that she needs to do what makes her feel happy.

Some highlights:
They didn't show the opening video; instead, Yossi came up and made the speech. The audience paid serious attention. Konno cried.
Basically her parts are divided between Ogawa and Kamei. Opening MC started with Miki. Miki's speech was somethng about thanking God...? Anyway.
Takahashi got Mari's part in Love&Peace (Manpower c/w). Love Machine's line were given to Ogawa. Kamei's the MC of the quiz part. Takahashi introduced Osaka Koi no Uta.
They stopped selling Mari's pass (what the heck is that anyway).

Yea, somehow her speech made me less worried now. It's really great and touching... I feel she's more like Nakazawa than Kaori, who managed to find the balance between getting all serious and having fun with members. :)

I'm little disappointed, because I thought Yossi would give something new information about Yaguchi, but instead she said less than we already know. But of course the concert isn't the right place to chew over Yaguchi case.

I didn't hear a single person shout Mari's name, so fan co-operation seems to have worked. I'm sure they'd have cried if people would have started a Mari chant.
It's the same as earlier setlists except Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari 2 has been replaced by Osaka Koi no Uta.
I was expecting them to sing JKM2 and wondering how it'd sound with Mari's verse cut out, but that song has been replaced by the new single. It'd have been a nice gesture if they'd done JKM2 just one last time and played the recorded vocals for Mari's verse.

Some of this has been mentioned already, but here is a summary of the articles linked on Centuryland published after the concert:
- Rehearsal before the concert ran 4 hours, twice normal, in order to re-form the dances, etc.
- The afternoon show opened about 30 minutes late.
- Approximate attendance of that show: 2000
- According to Sanspo (http://www.sanspo.com/geino/top/gt200504/gt2005041701.html), there was only one request for a refund. The ten tickets to be sold on-site were distributed by raffle to the first 50 to arrive. There were no scalpers (visible).
- The usual member introduction was skipped.
- After Yossi's line, "Yaguchi is not at today's performance. We are very sorry," the members bowed.
- At least Konno and Reina were crying at this point.
- In an unprecedented happening, about 1000 fans without tickets came from across the country and gathered outside the event to show their support for Yaguchi's return.
- A petition was begun outside the concert hall, requesting Yaguchi's return. This is a good example of how much MM fans care about the girls. While here a "western" audience would have immediately started a "We want Mari" chant, the Japanese fans know how upsetting that would be for the girls, especially the younger/more emotional ones. They had the self-discipline to control themselves so as to let the girls get through the show.
I think they were right to remove JKM2. If they HAD chosen to keep it in they should've removed Mari's part. You read how upset Konkon and Reina were during Yossi's opening speech. If they had done JKM2 and had to hear Mari's voice in the playback, many of the girls could have/would have lost it right there on stage...concert be damned.

They let Rika graduate and then they announce that Mari is forming a new subgroup with older H!P members, who can date guys and have boyfriends. And the media goes crazy and everyone is rushing to buy their records. At least this is what I'm hoping for... or dreaming of :D

Does it affect which syllables are emphasized? For example, in the first one it could be pronounced YOSHI-zawa, where the emphasis is on the first two syllables. Yeah I noticed her improv at the beginning of Haru no Uta was a little messy. But she did the "du du du da du du du" part so well! And her Osaka monologue was adorable. Siiigh.

This didn't even come to mind... But it's a possibility. But then UFA would be the real evil villain motherfucker in this case. I mean, that would mean they just don't have to keep their boyfriends secret, but also they're not allowed to have any boyfriends at all.

I'm thinking it's about image. Not only can the girls be role models for other Japanese girls in general, but they're obviously got a MAJOR fanboy following. TPTB probably fear losing the fanboys if they find out their favorite MM member has a boyfriend. Unfair? Yes. Stupid? Yes. Unwarrented? Definitely. But unfortunately I've heard it's happened before. I only wish I knew to whom it's happened.

one can see that something is amiss.
for example, right at the beginning the girls were polled and Yaguchi indicated that she was feeling ill at ease, that she would sigh a lot, that she had nightmares... whereupon she commented that there was a lot of pressure as very important things were happening.
the younger girls look shocked and unhappy.. the older ones seemed more pensive.. no one laughed it off as Yaguchi was trying to...

Heh, she spoke formally enough for me to understand her :P. As you could probably tell from the clip she mistakenly introduced herself as Morning Musume at first, which was as funny as it was sad :cry:. From what I remember she that she had been thinking and worrying about her position as leader, and that she decided to take responsability for her actions. She said that she thought that some people were worried and bothered by her decision, but because she wants to continuing doing her best, she asked for their support. She then went on to talk about how grateful she was for what Utaban had done for her, and said that Taka-san was like a father to MM, which freaked him out :lol:. But, she teased Nakai and said that since the begining there's been a distance between him and her, so she didn't have any memories of him :lol:.
Overall she actually seemed like she was doing pretty well and in a good mood.

Having seen the ep now, I agree that she came across pretty well.
Another interesting tidbit from an analogous situation, Ken Miyake (of V6) was apparently dating Namie Amuro, and refused to break it off when told to do so by his agency. No word of him getting offed for it yet though.

Well its been a year since Mari left Morning Musume. I for one feel her absence strongly. MM has taken a something of a low dip after her leaving, imo (not that I'm knocking Yossi's leadership skillsat all. I think she's doing great!).
Mari is still doing things like dramas, FCs and TV shows, but I still want to see her back in the H!P spotlight. What really makes me sad tho, is she'll never get her grad concert. That makes me want to cry when I think about it. After all she's done, like Tanpopo, Minimoni, ZYX and such, she'll never get the ultimate recognition. That's just plain wrong.
But that's just me. How do you guys feel about Mari's lack of presence in H!P? And how has it effected you?

Definitely not just you. I'm totally not an MM fan as of lately b/c their songs just don't appeal to me at all. Everyone seemed to love Sexy Boy and Iroppoi. I found both.. not so pleasing.
The last single I really liked by MM and still listen to constantly is Osaka Koi no Uta, so I definitely agree things have been majorly lacking without Mari's personality in the group as well as Rika's. Two major personalities leaving the group at the same time was quite destructive on how the group works as of now, both within the group as well as with management (imo!).
I really want to hear Yaguchi singing on CDs again (Berryz didn't count b/c she didn't sing by herself!). I mean, she still seems quite popular, I think, so I don't see any reason why she couldn't release something like a Folk Songs album, or even a cover album (of H!P songs) with another person who's awesome, but not doing anything (aka Kei, and I know she's in that play now, but that doesn't quite count!)

Morning Musume had been going down in my eyes already when Yaguchi suddenly left. And it surely didn't help the group.
It would be nice if they let her sing again, after all she's not a bad singer. But I guess she has been busy with her TV show and dramas. I wouldn't mind if she would act more in the future.

She has her own page on helloproject.com now. Click on schedule, then click on tour. Each artist/group has their own page and Mari was recently added. At the moment it just has an entry for a couple of shows where she's MC. She's been MC before so why does she get her own page now. Hopefully it's a sign that she might get to sing soon.

I think it's rather naive to think that H!P girls can do what they want and they'll always get support from the management. They do what they are told to do. The girls are just tools for making money.

Well, I for one thinks the senior members have some kind of control to what they want to do. Why would they force Yaguchi to quit, knowing that she was a popular and significant member of MM then? And if they forced her to quit, why would it be so sudden?
I think she's better off doing shows on her own than to sing. She's more like a talent than an idol now. Her CDs won't sell anyway.

Agreed, and depending on how the wotas are doing with Mari's relationship, she has a better chance doing better than some of the other girls because of the TV shows she's on and co-hosting, so more people probably know of her... Maybe?

I agree, H!P has potential in older members, who actually do nothing now.
