Title: [ALBUM] SMAP 'Pop Up! SMAP' Album : 26 July 2006 [DL Page 2]
Post by: suki* on July 10, 2006, 12:55:40 PM
As Takuya had promised not too long ago on 'What's Up SMAP', SMAP's new album will be hitting the shelves just before their tour starts at the end of July.

Regular edition album includes 2 discs of songs ( assumably following SMAP's norm of having all the solo ones in a second disc ). :P

Limited edition album is the same as above except that it includes a special enlarged jacket design (191mm x 143mm x 9mm).

There's no tracklist as yet but SMAP's now conforming to what seems to be the current JE trend of having more than one edition of the album. There might be special tracks available in the regular edition so watch this thread for future developments. :)

Talk about a last minute scheduling of a release!  On a day when a KinKi Kids single is released too.  Poor fans are going to be broke after the 26th! XD

I look forward to future details on this breaking news, Commander Suki*.

Hee! It always happens really. The album gets released just before the concerts come along. XDDD

I've yet to watch the last SMAP concert. :P It's still wrapped in the HMV plastic wrap and sitting somewhere under my rubble. XDDD I SOOOOOOO need to get organised. :P

Naahh... Think YOU Commander Chatin, might get to the new before me.  Hee! If you do, you can update me! Ne?

*hee!*

Some interesting track names (TOKIO?), and really interesting collaborations on songs!  I'm definately interested.

And hopefully, someone (like Suki*), can check to make sure all the song titles look right. :P

CD-Japan seems to have beat the pack in getting some cover art up.. at least for the Limited Edition.

I hope they do some interesting things with this theme.  I just saw the newspaper theme that the fourth LEAD album took, and it was really, really cool.

You said it girl!! But too bad... He's married... :x

Takkun's wedding announcement before the SMAP concert started back in 2000. I've yet to see someone look less happy about getting married. >_<

The album is now up on the JPopSuki tracker.  After I get a chance to listen through the songs, I'll be giving my thoughts here.  If you didn't grab it already, I suggest to go and do that.  (Or even better, go order it from CDJapan. ;) )
Title: Chatin's Pop Up! Review
Post by: Chatin on July 25, 2006, 08:22:14 PM
(http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/2488/covercl1.th.jpg) (http://img130.imageshack.us/my.php?image=covercl1.jpg)

01. Theme of 018
This is the funkiest, greatest opening track for an album ever.  Without being a "real song", it is definately something I want to listen to again.  Great!

02. TAKE OFF
This song begins by continuing the funkiness of the previous track. The song sounds like it'd be great in karaoke, but I can't see any exciting choreography or anything for this. XD

03. Nai Yai Yai
This wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.  Kind of forgettable.

04. Simple
This song has a very sweet sound to it.  Very uplifting sound.  I actually think this could have been used with a great PV.

05. paripia!
This song is... wiiiierd. :sweatdrop:  At one  point I felt like I was listening to SOUL'D OUT or m-flo, so I guess it isn't that bad.  I feel this song will grow on me.

06. Triangle
Didn't care much for this song when it came out as a single.  Still don't care much for it.

07. モアイ (Moai)
This song is sort of boring too.  :sweatdrop:  The hawaiian twist makes me feel like the song is supposed to be called Maui.

08. Call Your Number
XD It's hilarious to hear them say the numbers.  However, it makes me feel like I'm listening to a children's song about counting.  I don't think I'll ever be able to take this song seriously. XD

09. 星空の下で (Hoshizora no shita de)
The song is neat, but it's a little too mellow for me. XD

10. だいじょうぶ (Daijoubu)
This is like.. reggae... ska.. I don't know. :sweatdrop:  I can see this being a great energy song at concerts, but right now I don't know if it does enough for me.

11. STAY
This song is very boyband-ish.  But it sounds good.. except for a couple solo lines by people who should NEVER get solo lines! XD

12. Dear WOMAN
Parts of this song I liked.. parts I didn't.  I think I would have liked this song more if it were sung by a different group. :sweatdrop: I actually never got around to listening to this song when it debuted as a single.

01. 女の子とLOVE SONG (Onna no ko to LOVE SONG)
At first I went "Who is singing so high?!?!" XD  I don't know why, but I didn't expect a woman in the song. The song was kind of boring, unfortunately.  Imagine that... a boring seven minute and fourty-eight second song.   The hard beat through the middle of the song was better, but the song is still wayyyyyy too long.

02. 君がいる (Kimi ga Iru)
This song is sooooo painfully slow.  If you want to do a ballad, do one with emotion.  This was hell to listen to.  I'm not exaggerating!  This song gives the same sort of feeling as when you feel absolutely terrible and you try to fall asleep, but you can't because the conditions are just so terrible.  So you're stuck between total exhaustion and the sickening conditions.  To the point where you start to sweat, and you rock in place trying to comfort yourself.. but the hell goes on.  And every second feels like an eternity.

That is this song.

03. L-O-V-E
I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!
This is a great cover! XD I actually can see myself listening to this more.
Then Goro sings about himself.. rofl!  It's great.  I recommend this track on everyone for a good-hearted laugh! XD

04. TOKIO
This song is actually very, very good.  It could be a single.  Hopefully Suki* doesn't have time to play this on her show, because I wouldn't mind being the first to play it on mine tomorrow! :sweatdrop:

05. Everybody
This is one of those tracks that I felt that I would have liked more if the guys were better singers. XD  The only parts I liked were the parts without SMAP. :sweatdrop:

Overall, at this point I'll give the album 9 / 17 Pairs of 3D Glasses!

It passes the test this time, though just barely.  Hopefully repeated listening will bring the score up, rather than lower it!

tenkei happened to ask me who had which solo on 018 so here it is! ^o^

Onna no Ko to Love Song : Nakai Masahiro
Kimi ga Iru : Kimura Takuya
L-O-V-E : Inagaki Goro
Tokio : Kusanagi Tsuyoshi ( Tsuyopon penned this himself!! ^o^ )
Everybody : Katori Shingo

Hee! Should have expected it to be in 'rank', i.e. leader goes first then comes the rest. XD

Pop Up! SMAP was No. 1 for last week on the Oricon, with sales of 320912. Today, it's still holding on at No. 5 and after some of the new albums fall down the charts, maybe we'll see a super high ranking for it again this week!

In it's third week on the market, SMAP comes up at No. 11 on the Oricon Weekly Charts.

1st Week Sales: 320912 units sold
2nd Week Sales: 55570 units sold
3rd Week Sales: 23224 units sold
Total Sales Thus Far: 399706

Next week they'll be breaking 400,000k for sure!! They probably already did that yesterday.  Only the daily charts, SMAP is sitting at No. 14.

I should think so. XD People going to the concerts will be listening to ALL the new stuff as well as the classics and they're gonna be going "oooohh~!! that's nice!!" and then they'll go buy! XD

Nice marketing tactics Kitagawa! Release the album barely a week before the concert tour starts and everyone will be scrambling to be on their toes so they can sing along during the concert!!

Four weeks on the Oricon charts, and Pop Up! SMAP still finished with a weekly chart position of 14th.

1st Week Sales: 320912 units sold
2nd Week Sales: 55570 units sold
3rd Week Sales: 23224 units sold
4th Week Sales: 13632 units sold
Total Sales Thus Far: 413338 units sold

SMAP's new album passed the 400k mark, of course, and it will be interesting to see how much further it can go.  Today, the album is no longer ranked in the top twenty on the Oricon daily charts.
