Here's some interesting news I thought I'd share. The Hollywood version of my favorite movie of all fuckin' time has chosen one of the actresses to play one of the two main roles.
http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=12197 (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=12197)
What do you think? I absolutely LOVE Jeon Ji Hyun, but I think it'll be interesting to see how Elisha does in this. What do you guys think?
-
I loved My Sassy Girl, but I've never seen this girl in anything, so I can't say for sure, but that look looks good to me!
-
She was in The Girl Next Door, as well as 24 the tv series. Going back a few years, she was also in Popular Mechanics for Kids.
-
HOT DAMN! :canada: Elisha Cuthbert is totally crazy in TV interviews, she's perfect for the role!
-
I think she'll do fine. She's capable of playing both bitchy and cutesy characters, which suits the role perfectly.
-
Elisha :jerk:
and yes, she's a good cast.
-
wow, finally some news. there was actually word that the movie wasnt going to be made afterall. and i wish that were still true...
anyway, cuthbert eh? i suppose she'll be okay :o
-
girl next door was AWESOME!! wahahah!! i ahvent seen my sassy girl yet.. gta get tenkei to upload it sometime..
-
i think the movie's gonna be so different from the original that the only similarity is the title.. my sassy girl was so great and so korean :P
-
let see let see, mostly re'directed films sucks

That´s so true, man. I loved My Sassy Girl, such a nice movie. About the remake, i don´t even know if i want to see the remake. Hollywood-remakes of popular asian films sucks, mostly.
Lets hope that this doesnt
-
well yeah maybe it sucks man... but for elisha cuthbert i would love to see this remake!!!
-
i really can't see elisha cuthbert in a bitchy role. i've seen her in The Girl Next Door, House of Wax, and 24(only the first two seasons). Annoying? maybe. Bitchy? no. It will be interesting to watch. She probably can pull it off, but its really hard to imagine her in Jeon Ji Hyun's role
-
Yeah...Jeon Ji Hyun is good..i'm interested in this..hehe..
-
Whoa...I'm going to watch this regardless hehe.
My SassyGirl was too good but if Elisha Cuthbert is for the role that Jeon took then so be ut :ONcool1: :ONwriggly:

The resurrection of this thread reminds me that I watched The Lake House at work last week - for the sake of comparison to Il Mare. It was.... alright.
-
yeah, i recently watched the american version of Il Mare... i'm not sure if i liked it XD
to be honest, im quite skeptical about how this is going to turn out... korean and american culture is so different that i think they are going to have to change a lot of the comedy parts and what not. im not sure about this one.... >_< i loved MSG (not monosodium glutamate XD) so much
-
OHH!! My korean friend just told me about it today!!
Looking forward to seeing it!! I heard they were orginally going to cast Angelian Jolie for it...it's a shame they didn't though!
-
It'd be interesting to see it.. but may end up being a disappointment to all the people out there who loved the original...
Why can't Hollywood think up new ideas instead of remaking movie/series from years ago or from other countries?
-
No...this won't work. They'd be better off dubbing it. -.-
-
I agree with all of the negative posts here, hollywood has never impressed me with many movies, I've basicaly given up on western entertainment with a few exceptions. I believe this movie will be nothing compared to the original.
-
I'm sure it will be a good movie on it's own merit, but for FANS of the original, it will never live up.
much like THE DEPARTED ... it was a decent movie on it's own, but since i was comparing it to Infernal Affairs, which is *MY* favorite movie of all time, it wasn't nearly as good.
Elisha is a good choice though:) i've loved her since PMK :) the director will have a huge role in a movie like this.
-
I just wonder if it's gonna be as good as the original. Well we don't know yet but i think the original is better. cuz that how it is most of the time when they tried stuff like this. The loved the original, the story, the acting, the comedy, the actress and the sad part. it's all great.
Hollywood has really been copying off alot from asian cinema in my opinion. some are good, some are not so good when compared to the original.
It's the same with the "Departed" and "Infernal Affairs". to me, the Departed is good in it's own way, but compared to the original, it's okay cuz Infernal Affairs is such a masterpiece, i loved that movie, and the theme song. it had an all-star cast as well. some of them my heroes of sorts, like tony leung and andy lau.
Anyway it's just my opinion i'll make the comparision when it comes out.
-
I think Hollywood might actually manage to pull this one off. MSG is such a crazy film that I think it could be put into any culture and somehow work. Elisha Cuthbert is a good choice, a much better choice than they could have made anyway. I probably won't bother seeing this until it shows up on TV but I'll be interested to hear what people think of it.
-
my sassy girl was a great movie ..hope hollywood doesnt screw it
-
GOD helps us ........... no Hollywood version please
still an useless adaptation and without interest .........
-
My Sassy Girl is one of the best movies ever made ....... hope they won't mess it up >_< """"" .........
-
arghhh they will mess it T_T but i will watch it coz elisa cuthbert is the only reason :)
-
I think it will have a diff feeling, just like "The Departed"...
-
ehhhhhhhhhh. i'm only interested b/c its elisha cuthbert. haha i personally think i may prefer the original version. but we'll see.
-
if it is not elisha cuthbert i beg to disagree...
but since elisha cuthbert will play the role of sassy girl well all i want to say HELL YEAH!!!
-
My Sassy Girl was one of the first korean movies i watched, loved it so, i started watching several others. basically it was the one that started it all with me and korean cinema. full of romance and comedy...
but anywayz....
even though i wonder how the remake would be, i'm not entirely all for it. There has been several hollywood remake of spectacular asian films... and for me, the original one is better. and other than remaking it. i'm all for the idea of showing asian cinema more into American mainstream media. the general public needs to know how great the Asian cinema is instead of taking their ideas and turn it hollywood style.
I would also like to point out another korean masterpiece turned hollywood, The lake house, a remake of Il Mare, also starring Jun ji-hyun. Il Mare was a great movie, and although i never actually watch the Lake house myself, i heard there were many negative reviews of it. it just strengthens my point... keep the original.

The trailer
-
looks fun.
Still thinks the original is better though. kinda not fair to judge it now without even watching, rite? but knowing hollywood remakes of Asian cinemas......
i'll probably still watches it though.
now, in the trailer, i saw alot of familiar scenes. watching it really makes me think of the original, especially the squash scenes and the kendo which is hilarious. maybe i'll watch the original again tonight. that movie never gets old...
-
I don't know ........ Hollywood remakes are usually sucks ............
and the trailer sucks ..... she's NOT sassy at all !!!!!
if that's sassy, then ALL girls I know are !!!
-
knowing hollywood, they gonna fuck up the ending and make it all happy again
-
EPIC FAIL!
-
they need a girl who can portray both dark and the light parts of a character, and i'm afraid Elisha just can't bring them out. It doesn't help as well when the original movie is such a big hit.
-
The songs they chose makes me hate it already.
this version looks be totally americanized, and I usually don't like hollywood romantic comedies. I love asian ones though. There are a bunch of moments in the original that I wonder how they will adapt to this or if they even will.
-
Maybe unfair to judge but I don't really care, I hate the lok of this. Seriously the original is one of my favourite films and I was annoyed when I first heard about this, now I've seen taht trailer I'm even more annoyed. Maybe it's just me but almost every thing in there made me cringe and the acting from Elisha seemed completely wooden as hell. Not happy about this...
-
Gonna Suck. it's like fate.
-
Not really on topic since this is supposed to be about the hollywood version, but anyone watching the Japanese drama remake of it?
Just watched the first episode and have to say it's not bad, though the acting can get a little over the top sometimes, but that's typical of Japanese comedy style. It was pretty funny though. Sorta wish they got someone else other than that SMAP guy to play the lead >_> But I think Rena Tanaka isn't bad. They made some interesting plot changes already. I really don't know what to think about them right now, but we'll see how that works out later on.
-
My sassy girl goes direct to video August. (http://www.varietyasiaonline.com/kaijushakedown/MY-SASSY-GIRL-GOES-DIRECT-TO-VIDEO)
-
You know, it doesn't look that bad, I gotta admit. But the straight to video thing does make sense, I think it wouldn't have done well in theatres. No offense to Elisha Cuthbert and Jess Bradford, but they don't carry the star power that this film now deserves. I'll probably buy it just cuz I'm a nerd that way, and I actually love Elisha Cuthbert.
-
Direct to video and obscurity. Maybe they can remake "The Host" while they're at it.
-
anyone seen it yet? I just watched it last night
Elisha Cuthbert was actually quite good in this and made the film bearable i think. Jesse Bradford was fail from the start. They did a good job transplanting the story from Korea to NYC and were pretty faithful to all the epic scenes we love (the only one they left out that I was waiting for was the scene where he chases her down the street and hits on her, not knowing its his GF). It wasn't butchered as badly as I had feared, but I would still say it didn't need to be made. The addition of the random friend the guy has was an odd touch. Overall, not horrible so see it if you wanna know what's up, but totally skipable.
