British holidaymakers staged an unprecedented mutiny - refusing to allow their flight to take off until two men they feared were terrorists were forcibly removed. Patrick Mercer, the Tory Homeland Security spokesman, said last night: "This is a victory for terrorists. These people on the flight have been terrorised into behaving irrationally.
"For those unfortunate two men to be victimised because of the colour of their skin is just nonsense."
That basically sums up my feelings on the subject. Stupid paranoid non-visible minority passengers. :fuckyou: :x

I feel sorry for those two men. To be forced off the plane just because the passengers "thought" they were speaking an Arabic language. :kmad:
-
The guys were acting pretty suspiciously.
Good for the passengers. If it had been my family or my children, I wouldn't have taken any chances either.
two British citizens in their 20s waited in the departure lounge to board the pre-dawn flight and were heard talking what passengers took to be Arabic. Worries spread after a female passenger said she had heard something that alarmed her. Passengers noticed that, despite the heat, the pair were wearing leather jackets and thick jumpers and were regularly checking their watches.
While we were waiting, everyone agreed the men looked dodgy.

The question then is, what constitutes "acting suspiciously", and how much does the paranoia and fear of the other passengers play into/influence that?
While we were waiting, everyone agreed the men looked dodgy.
That's what they said. I wouldn't be surprised if what they were really thinking was "While we were waiting, everyone agreed the men looked Asian."

That "something" could have just been the simple fact that there were people speaking a language that sounded Arabic.

The clothes could just be chalked up to their personal style. And the watch thing could just be chalked up to they're checking to make sure the flight was boarding/leaving on time.
I'm Asian. I check my watch at least every 5 min when I go out. Does that make my behaviour "dodgy"? Don't get me wrong, I can understand the concern of the other passengers. If it was my family I probably wouldn't have taken any chances either. What I don't like is the way that they expressed that concern. There is such a thing known as "being discreet" and "being tactful". Making a scene like the way that they did just shows how easily they can be scared into doing something potentially stupid and embarrassing.

It's sad that people don't bother to think, that 1 in every 6 people (roughly) that they meet could be a Muslim. Comparative Religions needs to be a mandatory class in school it seems. The article doesn't say if the passangers were indeed speaking Arabic. Possible yes, but doubtful. Those people are probably more familiar with Manx Gaelic.

At least no-one was shot in the head this time.

Omgass it's the IRA!!! They've broken the ceasefire!

"For those unfortunate two men to be victimised because of the colour of their skin is just nonsense."
I agree

That's weird. Lots of arabic/north-african/middle-eastern/pakistani people live in England. If this were to happen with any frequency, the English transport system would completely break down.

There's an entertaining (and IMO correct) rant about this incident by a British blogger here (http://www.qwghlm.co.uk/blog/?p=907). be warned: language alert in the linked post!

The next thing they'll do is to group people according to their race and religion on different flights yay!!
