RadioShack Corp. notified about 400 workers by e-mail that they were being dismissed immediately as part of planned job cuts. (http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.asp?Feed=AP&Date=20060830&ID=5983042)

hmm i think such serious messages should be delivered face to face.. thats way to impersonal..
-
Man, that is unheard of. It sucks to lose your job but would you want to work at a company like that?
-
Simple and efficient.
-
How nice of them.... :o
-
Getting fired via email wouldn't bother me... If they gonna fire me, it doesn't really matter if they say it face to face or via email or some another way. In a big business it isn't more honest or anything... Whoever made the decision isn't the guy who would tell it to the workers.
-
lol thats hilarious, 25% is watching porn and they open the mail "you're fired"
-
Happened right here in my city. Face it, Radio Shack Can't compete with Best Buy (Unless they start selling porn, and lots of it!)
-
I think it's so rude to fire someone by email. It's unprofessional and comes off as cowardly and/or stuck up. Like, "I'm too good to fire you face-to-face."
-
^ I think it's more cowardly than stuck up..
-
Would you like to tell 400 people that they're fired to their face - Imagine all the people gunning for your ass after that~

My point was that the people who make the decision to fire someone, aren't the same ones, who actually tell employees that they're fired.

Its a respect factor though. If there are that many people that are gonna get fired, employers are gonna know well in advance. As well as the employees should have some sort of clue. As long as they get their severence packages, they should be fine though. Not like someone ratted them out for sexual harassment or anything.
-
That's a shame. I say e-mail is better then showing up and getting fired on the spot. This way it kind saves them from feeling bad in front of other people.
-
I think this was a discrete and efficient way of mass firing over 400 people. But personally I think it sucks :)

i would be so pissed off if they fired me by email. dont they have some damn balls? why cant they be professional when it comes to these things. wrong!
