A significant portion of North Korea's electricity comes from China.  When China was cracking down on domestic gambling and wanted to shut down casinos on the PDRK-side of the border (which basically served Chinese people), it basically threatened to shut down the North's electricity supply.  The casinos were shut down immediately.

That's pretty sad.
When people said things like "It's easy to find NK at night" (meaning because it's dark), I thought they were joking... :o

Maybe they are just better in preventing light pollution? :)

South Korean astronomers should build observatories and hold star gazing sessions on the north side of the border...  It must really be great to see the Milky Way and stuff without any light pollution.
