I'm playing Okami (http://ww2.capcom.com/okami/) right now and loving it. I can see why all the reviewers were falling all over themselves to praise this game. If you have a PS2 and haven't picked up a copy yet, I highly recommend it -- especially if you have any love for Nihongo culture.
Anybody else here playing it/played it? I'd love to hear what you think.
Here's a link to the review on Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/okami/review.html) (including a video review) if you're interested.

i thought this game won't come out til december 06?
-
Nope. It's been out for a while now.
I've wanted this game ever since I've heard of it months ago, but I think I'm going to wait and try to ask for it for Christmas.
-
i've only played the demo - i didn't play for very long, but it seemed pretty awesome
-
played it, loved it, highly recommended for everyone. this game has the ability to actually make u feel sorry for certain characters in the game (not many games can do that). even though its unlikely, i do hope they'll create a sequel for the game.
-
This games seems awesome!!!
I might have to get it...
-
so what is the story of the game?
-
Have no PS2
Is there a PC version too?
Read in the News, Capcom closes Clover, the developer of Okami.
-
i just finished the game. omg there are so many things to do that it's so hard to stop playing once you start. i thought it's just a short game but it's now over 40 hours and i still havent completed some of the really hidden sidequests.. great game..
anyone know how to break one of those really hard rocks/crystals in order to reach some treasure chests? i have no idea how to get that ability..
-
I want to play it

theres places where u can dig a hole and be dropped down into certain areas, in those areas, theres a fountain, donate the maximum amount possible 3 times and u'll get lvl2/3 of the original ability. sry if my explaination is a bit vague, just woke up =D

I finished the game at 60hrs in my opinion its waay too short I expected 80hrs at least. I got misled just by looking at the world map and thought I was far from the end. For breaking the iron rocks you need to buy the hardhead skill from the dojo which is further down the game. And good luck with the last blockhead of the game in getting one of the abilities. The fishing game rocked.

ahh.. thanks i'll try that. i was wondering what the fountains were for.

i've already beaten the last boss because i wanna see the ending but now i'm playing again to collect everything that i've missed. bought the blockhead skill but can't break the iron rocks. have to level it up somehow. maybe by doing what the fountain thing..
i kinda cheated with the last blockhead. i took a video of the blockhead sequence using my digicam and then just watched the vid to watch the weakness points XD
anyway anyone managed to buy the 2,000,000 yen skill from the dojo? any idea what it is?

I love this game! This is probably the closest thing you can get to Zelda on a PS2. The graphics are beautiful and the story is awesome. I highly recommend it to everyone to at least try it out.
-
i want to play it but can't my ps2 is out of service
-
I started playing it last week. The games is far better than I expected. I loved the brush tool, the way you can cut everything, the graphics, overall the game is great.
-
This game is the greatness! :D
I'm stuck in this one spot though...
-
expect no less from the developer of viewtiful joe and god hand. i really enjoy this game for it's free roaming and funny jokes
-
only thing i didnt like was the voices or rather lack of. but i cant wait to see if an updated ps3 can scale this game.
-
playing it right now. I'm totally amazed by the visuals of this game. Pure art in motion.
-
Finished it Saturday just gone, it was truly amazing! :tfr9a7wg:
Pretty much everything about it was brilliant, the graphics, the character design, the music, the level desgin, all of it.
My only criticism is that it was a little easy.
I would have also liked it to be longer, but with that extra length comes more chances to mess it up, so i guess its just right (i clocked it in 42hrs).
:ONglasses:
-
okami is teh sex - I beat it like 2 times.
Awesome game.
-
I have Okami artbook and it is a art piece , wonderful draws, wonderful desings, everything about this game seems great.
But the game isnt out on spain yet :/
-
sorry to revive this old topic, but I just got the game. I'm now 3:30 into it and loving every minute of it. It's not that difficult, but that's great for player like me who don't have much expierence with these types of games.
The only downside is the lack of vocals.. it would be much better if all the written text was spoken in Japanese (or perhaps English) instead of this mumbling.
-
I don't mind the mumbling so much. And English dialog would completely ruin the illusion of the game for me IMO. I'm about 30+ hours into it and still playing, though I don't think I have much left to do, maybe. But I love it.
-
yeah the mumbling isn't so bad.. I'm now 8 hours into it and it's very addicting.
In most reviews I read, they say it's too easy. That might be so, but for noobs like me it's just perfect. I like a game in which I can make progress steadily and not have to look hours for some item or something..
The controls are also great.. auto aiming in the battle screens and the fact that you can use the map while walking are very handy.
-
Yeah that 'it's too easy' criticism is a bit silly. Zelda games get the same criticism but that doesn't take away from the fact that they're brilliant games too. Besides, there's a few bosses I've encountered that are actually quite challenging.
-
I just finished the game! It took me 34 hours (in 13 days).
Some things:
1. If the game ended at 40%, after the first killing of Orochi it would've been enough. I didn't care so much for the coastal area, Sei-An city and the north..
2. The bosses being recycled at the end was kinda unnecessary and the final boss looked kinda stupid..
3. I wish I could roam the lands after finishing to look for the missing clovers, stray beads, wanted lists and animals... I know I can start over with my inventory intact, but still.. it kinda sucks the option isn't there like it is in for instance GTA San Andreas.
4. Overal, still a very cool and original game which is in my top #3 fav games.
-
I played it for like 30 minutes and i couldn't take it anymore because of the dialog. It just gave me a headache.
-
The dialogue is annoying at first, but it kinda gets hypnotising after a while
-
Just completed it there now. Took me 40 hrs (in 6 months ) I agree with BarrieV, the recycled bosses at the end were unnecessary and the final boss, for all he was made out to be, was
a sphere and a hand
I agree that the story after Orochi was pretty unnecessary, but if it had ended at that point, you'd get a hell of a lot of people complaining about the games duration.
But still, it really rocked. One of the most beautiful games I'll ever play. One of the cutscenes before the fight with the final boss was quite touching and it's rare for a video game to do that to me. For those still wondering, it's this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AIer6R8sIQ) one.
Liked the song at the end too (the one with actual Japanese vocals lol). The presents from Issun unlockable was a very nice touch I thought. I find it interesting to view artwork of any game and for a game like Okami, it's extra sweet! What's the deal with these incarnations you unlock though?
-
They are like costumes.. you can get a fatter wolf, or one without red details, etc.. i think there are like 9 available depending how you did in the game (money recieved, praise received, times dying, things like that..)
I'm working on completing the fish tome, treasure tome and trying to find all the stray beads (which seems impossible, I'm not using any walktrough help).
-
This game is possibly the most awesome game for the PS2. It's just SO awesome.
It took me 70 hours to complete it, and every minute of it was worth it. I really enjoyed playing this game. I cried at the ending, and that is a very rare thing for me to do. XD; I really got attached to Issun, who was like my constant comfort throughout the whole game. I wasn't really satisfied with the ending, it made me sad even though it should have been happy. XD;
Overall, it was both easy and awesome at the same time . . a rare combination.
-
I own this game...I don't like it. Dialogue is annoying...art is nice...but I don't like the game play, though fighting some of the bosses was fun. I played through a lot, but I don't wanna finish it.
-
So, I'm about 55 hours in the game (completed the story mode once already, and I'm now just before entering the ark again), but there are still some things unclear to me. If anyone could help me with the following:
1. edit: *found it*
2. What do I have to do with the 5th vase you get over at Shinsu Field? I brought the previous 4 vases to the Guardian Statues, but I can't seem to find a fifth one?
3. When you check the logbook it says "journal", "?" and "Wanted Lists". What does the question mark stand for.. I still can't access that menu..?!

The rumours can be laid to rest. Okami's coming to the Wii (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=85578)
Now there's a no-brainer of a port if ever I saw one.
-
Edit: all problems solved *hooray*
4 stray beads to go..
-
finished this game a month ago. one of the best game ever.
-
Innovative, beautiful and playable heaven - On of the best games for PS2
-
yeah, the game is pretty great, but real easy.
Nothing really hard in the game.
-
^Stray Bead #78, #79 and #90 are pretty tricky.
But yeah overal it's not difficult, which is great because I suck at this sort of games
-
This game was beautiful to see. I really liked the whole feeling around it.
It is been rumored that the game will be remade / ported for wii :D
-
^ It's actually no longer a rumour, it is true! (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=85578)
Here's hoping the port gives it a new lease of life.
-
Okami really is a great game. Probably my favourite game of 2006, next to Final Fantasy XII. The graphics are wondrous, though the draw distance is terrible.
I'm kind of irked about the Wii port, as it's only adding Wii controls and nothing else. I'm going to end up buying it anyways, I know it.
-
I never got to play this game properly on the PS2 (just a demo) so when it comes out on the Wii I will definitely be buying it
-
Never played it...saw it in Game for 98p a couple of days ago though.
-
i'm gonna try to get it when it comes out on the wii. hopefully i wont be too busy with school then.
