The popular video-sharing site YouTube deleted nearly 30,000 files after a Japanese entertainment group complained of copyright infringement. (http://www.forbes.com/technology/ebusiness/feeds/ap/2006/10/20/ap3107702.html)

wow.. thats alot. now i see why my playlists/favorites with like 300 files or so, and all are removed due to terms of service. Japan is trying to fight the internet eh?
-
Yeah, nearly all the japanese YouTube videos I had on my favorites were taken down and the users who posted them suspended. Sucks
-
Yeah, I think we all noticed that
crazy...

YouTube has been asked to remove almost 30,000 videos from their site, according to reports. The Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) found 29,549 videos on the site that had materials contained in them that where not authorized by rights holders. From the article, 'A spokesperson for that organization said that they were considering petitioning YouTube for a better screening process. Although YouTube is legally obligated to remove infringing material when notified, some copyright holders have expressed irritation at the notion that they need to police YouTube themselves.' Now that Google's is attached to the site, will events like this become more commonplace? (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061020-8038.html)

That's bad news! Those were some of my fav videos. Hmmm.
-
bad bad news, i'm almost lucky to not to have only home-made videos @ youtube O__O
-
i didn't know they were suspending the uploaders...either way that sux for us
-
Some people get a warning (so they can delete their videos but keep their account), other people just get their accounts deleted with no warning. It's always a good idea to download the videos you like using this site (http://keepvid.com/) in case they get deleted later.
-
*checks his videos*
Looks like they haven't spotted mine yet. :P
-
The only Japanese vid I've got on there is one Rika vid. When the crackdown started a month or 2 ago I went and deleted the name of the tv show to make it harder for the Japanese TV people to find.
-
that sucks man!!! tha'ts why some of my favorite japanese videos in youtube had gone... do you know any site that contains jap videos like youtube please post it... thanks
-
yeah very odd and random at a time like this, now most of the stuff i wanted to check out is not there anymore =(
-
So, that's it. A few of my friends had their accounts bust. But there are still plenty of Jpop stuff on the site. Are they going to do more to clean up more I wonder.
-
I always download any videos off youtube that I really like. Good job I do, one guy had about 90 videos taken off but luckily I'd finished downloading them all just hours earlier.
-
youtube used to be my main source of finding H!P related videos. it really sucks that they've taken so much down. even my account got suspended despite the fact i only had like 6 videos. i cant imagine the people who got over 100 video deleted.
there was actually a thread about this earlier on JPM.
either way, doesn't seem like the popularity of YT is dwindling much.
-
not only has it removed large numbers of files after complaints by the rights holders, YouTube has also been voluntarily providing user details (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/technology/archives/2006/10/23/youtube_shared_user_data_with_studio_lawyers.html) to those rights holders if they wish to pursue legal action against uploaders. woops.
from the original article, linked to in the post above:
Its prompt legal capitulation suggests that YouTube users who post copyrighted material should not expect the company to protect them from media-business lawsuits.
-
for people like us, who don't have easy access to international entertainment, youtube was THE place where you could find almost anything... now that you can't that really sucks. i really hope they won't be getting rid of all the tv shows and dramas.

Thank you so so much for the link to this site! I never knew about it and it'll really help me!:otomerika:
I've known this has been going on and I too think it's unfair because we have no legal access to these things.

what is interesting is that these companies complaining never noticed something: their video in YouTube is just... free advertising.
I'm relatively new to the MM and H!P world (even more considering some of you guys xD) by where did I discovered MM? in YouTube!:ONbigdeal:
Now I'm an active consumer of H!P products and it's all thanks to the fans that posted videos.
I wonder how many potential fans and consumers they are loosing doing this...:ONdunno:
