Title: The Malay Music Thread
Post by: maliciel on December 13, 2006, 01:18:42 PM
Because Malay music is so awesome it deserves its own thread!

I am here to introduce to you one of the best singers to have ever graced the Malay pop music world. And it is none other than Siti Nurhaliza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siti_Nurhaliza). She's pretty, has an awesome voice, and (unfortunately) married :V

NONETHELESS!

She's great.

It's a collaboration between Siti Nurhaliza and Noraniza Idris. They're both good singers. It has a sorta traditional-ey feel. And stuff. Best album I've heard, lol.

PICS COME IN A BIT LOLZ

I'm not too sure about this, but a friend of mine told me she was on the same music competition as Ayaya in China(?) a while back. It was kinda like "The Best in Asia" thing and it was on TV. I didn't know anything about H!P then though.

UPDATE: I looked up her Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siti_Nurhaliza#International_Awards) page and I think it was the Voice Of Asia 2002 competition but on Ayaya's TV appearance page here (http://ayayatv.info/main.php?year=2002) it's called the Asia Music Festival so it could be wrong.

BUMPing the thread to see what you guys think of this band. It's one of the few bands that's caught my eyes recently. I've been to events where they've performed and I must say that I was impressed.

They're called Pesawat (which means Aircraft in Malay) and they're fairly new.

"Mirage"

"Excuse Me"

I'd also like you guys to check out my ex-classmate who is on her way to making it big in Malaysia.

I highly recommend "Dan Sebenarnya"  and "Rocket"

^ Hellz yeah. Some pimpin':

Flica
myspace (http://www.myspace.com/flicasound)

Quote
Reviving romanticism in the material world is a task often endured by musicians and artists. Doing so without the use of words or lyrics makes it all the more daunting for experimental soundscapist, Flica.

Flica aka Eu Seng Seto is an unassuming KL-based electro-acoustic outfit. At first glance, this shy and introverted character doesn’t strike as the passionate-type. But a closer look reveals his depths of emotion, much like his music. The 26 year old artist began his musical odyssey in 2005 with his first electronica project as duo Muxu, with former Citizens of Ice-Cream guitarist, Huat Liang. Soon, Flica realised the need to explore his own style and in early 2007, he began solely crafting his music in the solitude of his bedroom.

Armed with an arsenal of sound programmes, acoustic and electric guitars as well as pianos, Flica conquers ambient fields with concise arrangements. His live performances are spontaneous affairs, combining loop effects with organic on-the-fly programming and his admirable work-ethic has resulted in debut album, Windvane And Window. Released earlier this year, it saw him collaborate with famed Tokyo indie label mastermind Akira Kosemura and electro-acoustic musician Haruka Nakamura. His latest album, Nocturnal is another electro-ambient masterpiece.

But if Flica is a composer and musician by night, he’s talented graphic designer by day. He designs his own sleeves, album covers for Mu-nest Records releases. Escapism may be nothing more than dreaming, but Flica’s creative musings will surely help to easy the burden of a jaded Sandman.

(JUICE Malaysia)

What he said. Good shit.

I double-taked scrolling down the forum to my usual haunts below. (NO, not the pron section) I literally said out loud, "The *what* music thread?"

My contribution. Only because when in any other environment outside my own country and the internets (jphip is the only exception), I am proud to be a Malaysian.

Zee Avi - "Kantoi" Sing-Along (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOnoz-f43RI#)

They don't make voices like Zee anymore. Reminds me of the good old days when music meant something.

Following the previous posters, I also got wow-ed by the existence of this Malay music thread.

Speaking about a favorite, my friend in college recommended me this, and I love it so much.

Butterfingers : The Chemistry Between Us (HQ Audio) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QkIyEipx0k#ws)

:guitar: Good ol' grunge. :guitar:

So Malaysian friends, are there any current news about this band? I kinda lost track since their 'Kembali' (2008) album.
