If you’re an anime fan, this is some real interesting piece of news for you! I’m absolutely convinced that most of you have seen the movie Nausicaa. In this movie, the princess Nausicaa uses some sort of flying wing to travel. Once again, our Japanese friends are giving life to what used to be fiction, and created some kind of glider designed exactly like Nausicaa’s flying wing. This is the OpenSky 2.0 project jointly developed with NTT. Cool, eh? (http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/en/news-12983-Kaze+no+Tani+no+Nausicaa%E2%80%A6+for+real%3F.html)
Sounds cool, but I'd like it to undergo severe testing before I ever took it for a spin. It's the whole, jet engine strapped onto wings whilst standing on it part that does it for me.

Looks cool....I wonder if they'll add an engine to it for power one of these years.....?
-
that's pretty awesome...now we just need real-life gundams XD

what about this? http://bitter.swee.to/gundam.html

Woooaahhh does the gundam fly?! :D
And that plane thing's really amazing looking!! I've never seen the anime or anything but it looks cool!

Just pray that scientists don't get any further ideas from the anime and try to breed a new species of giant insects :P

They're a loooong way away from a working Mehve, although I admire the designers for their dedication. For one thing, the Mehve was made of ceramics, where OpenSky is made mostly of high-tech composites. Mehve was capable of V/STOL, while OpenSky is designed to be towed (I think). Several times in the manga and anime, the Mehve was flying upside-down, which I can't imagine happening in real life. I'm interested in whether they'll end up need computers in it to stabilize it during flight. Flying wing designs can be a bit tricky.

I wouldn't have the guts to ride on that, though it looks really cool :) I wonder who would, though?

hopefully they can make a real life totoro.
would be hella creepy though
