Title: Junji Ito (Horror manga, anyone?)
Post by: Ayabie on December 25, 2006, 07:30:52 PM
I'm sure a lot of you have heard of him. If you haven't, it's about time you did. ;)

The Wiki says it all. Here's a sample:

Ah, I haven't found any copies of the DVD. Not even torrents, or at least not seeded ones. Meh.

Anyway, here's Uzumaki (http://www.sendspace.com/file/oay15i).

To be honest, Ito is the only horror author I know. No one seems to be recommending any others.

Have you read Gyo? I prefer Uzumaki over it, but it's still awesome.

never read Gyo. jisatsu circle for the manga is way more disturbing than the movie itself. Homunculus is pretty good too. its about this guy who had a trepania for some money and he see some weird shit after

just finished reading uzumaki. whats with the ending?? BOOOO

Ito never really ends his manga happily. That's why I want to see the movie since it wasn't completely faithful to the manga, and it has a different ending.

I can upload Gyo, too, if you're interested. While I liked Uzumaki better because of the storyline, Gyo is creepier.

Ah, I managed to find the movie. All I can say is... what the fuck? I don't know what made the movie as bad as it was. The confusion about what was happening. the bad acting, the lack of horror, the crappy conclusion?

Argh, I think my expectations were set too high. You can't really expect a movie adaption of a Ito Junji manga to turn out good, I guess... >_>

That'd be "Voices in the Dark". That pic freaks me out. Anyway, I don't think a translated version exists.

i love his twisted style of drawing and story. i've only read a couple tomie mangas though (the translated ones are pretty expensive)..

the ones which were adapted to movies that i've watched..

kakashi, tomie, uzumaki.. are there any others?

anyway the uzumaki movie can be downloaded at shareparadise.net on megaupload if anyone's interested in watching it..

He seems like one of the greats, even though I've only read Uzumaki. Great, great artist! Thanks for the link.

That's why there's the internet! I could upload the rest if you're interested.

Also, copy-pasta from Wikipedia.

The second volume of Tomie is better than the first one. You can obviously see how Ito's style of drawing has changed.
