Fan Death is the belief that if someone is sleeping in a sealed room (windows and doors are closed) with an electric fan on, they could die. (http://www.fandeath.net/)
-
.....o_O Skeptical. I've slept in my room with the fan on with doors/windows closed plenty of times.
-
It's a pretty widespread myth in Korean culture. It was even told to me by my mom. xD
-
Well I never slept in a sealed room with the fan on, but I stay in one pretty much everyday (I turn on the airconditioner when going to sleep). Both windows and doors closed, and the fan almost right beside me.
-
I have a box fan going while I sleep. Blocks out any noise outside my room, and the sound helps me sleep quite a bit. Door closed, windows closed. Been at it for as long I can remember, and I'm still here.
-
Ah, but unless you're Korean, the whole being-alive thing is moot, isn't it?
(lol)
-
I have to ask about this my korean neighbors :)
-
Seems pretty farfetched to me.
-
What's the reasoning behind it...?
-
I know I can't sleep at night without a fan running, it blocks any noise that might keep you from falling asleep. For me, it's been a habit for a few years now, hehe.
-
weird, I thought this was gonna detail someone with the phobia of Fans...and how to cure it...but yea...didn't expect this... lol
-
Silly Korean urban myth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_death).
Bullcrap about the electric motor burning all the oxygen, or the air motion creating a partial vacuum, or the fan blades chopping up the O2 (oxygen) into O (ozone).
Probably something thought up by makers of air-conditioners.
-
...That is some crack-head stuff right there.
-
Only reason I could possibly come up with was a possible electrical shortage and the government wanting the people to turn off the damned fans. Of course, I'm paranoid like that.
