Canadian scientists have found astonishing evidence that the lifelong use of two languages can help delay the onset of dementia symptoms by four years compared to people who are monolingual. (http://www.healthnews-stat.com/?id=358&keys=two-languages-alzheimers)

Well then... ill have less chance of gettin alzheimers XP i can speak chinese AND english! xD
-
How about those of us that speak three languages (spanish, english and italian) and are learning a fourth (japanese)? Yay!!!! No Alzheimer's in my future!!!!
-
Then there are those of us that can barely speak one language :P
I feel senile already.
-
Learning languages is great.. I can recommend it to everybody :)
-
Basically this goes with something else I heard about a few months ago: The more you learn, the more connections are made in your brain and the longer it takes for deterioration of the brain with age to result in alzheimers.
I can see why extra languages would help immensely because of just how much you need to learn to properly speak and even further, write, a new language properly.
-
Yeah!! I know quite a lot of languages :D
but some less than others of course ><"
(Japanese, English, Chinese, Mandrin, Little bit of French)
-
English fluently, Spanish fluently, a little Japanese and a little more Russian  And I hope to learn many more when collage comes around! :D I should be ok!
And like everyone else here, I strongly encourage being at least bi-lingual

This make sense. If you get Alzheimers in the English speaking part of your brain just jettison it off like a virus-filled space pod and only think in your other language.
Or maybe it doesn't work that way.
-
I guess Gackt definately won't be getting Alzheimers then. o_o

^ how many languages does Gackt know?
Is it Mandrin and Japanese??

From his wiki page:
Gackt M.S. Camui (ガクト, but most often written in the Latin alphabet, even in Japan, pronounced "ga-ku-to") is a song writer, vocalist, and instrumentalist (trumpet, tuba, horn, trombone, piano, guitar, drums, bass). He recieved national recognition upon joining Malice Mizer and now is extremely popular in Japan, although he has fans internationally whom he calls his "Dears." Gackt claims to be a vampire born in 1540, and has also starred in a vampire-based movie, Moon Child, alongwith singer and close friend Hyde.
Gackt can speak Japanese, French, English, Mandarin, and Korean.
8 musical instruments, 5 languages. @__@

^ Yeah thats pretty cool.. But I think he only knows a bit of everything (probably except for Japanese)
Because on a talk show long time ago, he was speaking it with a taiwanese artist Vivian Hsu, and he said he only understood a little
But its cool that he knows a bit of everything too.
