The lawyer of an Israeli couple who won the right to use their dead son's sperm to inseminate a woman he never met says the case is a boost for family rights. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6279061.stm)

That's... somewhat disturbing.
I'm not sure what to think of this one.

Well, we only have the claims of the parents that the son wanted to have kids. At the risk of sounding overly cynical and cold-hearted, it's definitely possible that they're doing this because they want a grandchild so that they can have something to remember their son by. It's somewhat touching and all, but still disturbing. What I want to know is, how did they actually convince a total stranger (since the article said the son was single) to agree to carry the fetus? More importantly, what if they pregnancy doesn't take? What will they do then? Just keep trying until it "works"?

I'm thinking they got a woman who wants a baby. People donate sperm and women get babies, so this might not be that different. Except that it's from a dead guy...

Family rights!!!! Sort of like a fucked up twist on the terri schiavo thing

I wonder if the woman that will be inseminated by the son will allow the parents to have paternal rights? This is such a weird situation for the kid.
