She was influenced at an early age by Whitney Houston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitney_Houston)'s singing and Michael Jackson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jackson)'s dancing. In her second year of junior high school, she submitted a demo tape to the GIZA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIZA_studio) recording label and won a contract. She debuted in the United States in 1999 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999) with the song "Baby I Like," recorded under the pseudonym Mai K. Her first Japanese single, "Love, Day After Tomorrow," was released later in the year. It became a big hit in Japan and sold about a million copies. Kuraki now holds the record of having all 27 of her singles in the top-ten since her debut according to the Oricon's female artists ranking record.
Kuraki's career has been somewhat overshadowed by that of her slightly younger contemporary, Utada Hikaru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utada_Hikaru). Despite this, Kuraki's album Delicious Way sold more than 3 million copies and became the best selling album of 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000) in Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan), cementing her status with singers like Ayumi Hamasaki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayumi_Hamasaki) and Utada Hikaru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utada_Hikaru). Her second album, Perfect Crime, sold more than 1 million copies in 2001 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001).

I always liked Mai Kuraki~ But I lost track of her over the years XD I didn't really think Perfect Crime was all that great, and the last album I bought of hers, Fairy Tale, was just okay XD I haven't heard any of her new stuff though~ It's nice to see she is still making music though! :heart:

kuraki mai has good songs... man stay by my side is a good song. Its soo good Ive bought her album twice... hehe by losing the second one

yeah i know what you mean she's not so diverse. Her music is too simular. But she will always be my first favorite. I'll give the new single a try.

I used to be a big fan but yeah she has gone downhill and all. I thought Fuse of Love wasn't too bad but she mentions "I Love You" like in almost every song on that album and it just got annoying. Her Diamond Wave album was also a step down because all the album tracks sounded alike. As for her last single released late last year, it was just boring. Bleh.
