Manabu Oshio arrested for drugs, linked to woman's death

Tue, August 4, 2009 (2:47am EDT)

On Monday, Avex announced that it had dismissed actor/musician Manabu Oshio (31) for "violating his contract," but being let go by his agency is currently the least of his worries. Oshio was arrested on the same day for illegal drug use and is currently under investigation for his connection to the death of a woman.

At close to 9:30pm on Sunday night, the Azabu police department received a call from a man reporting that he had discovered a body. A woman, in her 30s, was found dead and naked in a bed at the Roppongi Hills Residences B, a high-class apartment building. It was determined that she had been dead for about 10 hours. She showed no external wounds, and the specific cause of death is expected to be identified within a couple weeks.

Oshio was apparently in the room with the woman at one point. He called his manager, saying that he felt something had gone wrong, but he left the apartment after that. Surveillance cameras showed that Oshio and the woman had entered the building separately that night.

On Monday afternoon, police called Oshio in for questioning. While listening to his story, they noticed that his hands were shaking and his face was pale. Suspecting drug poisoning, they gave him a urine test, which turned up positive for MDMA (also known as ecstasy). As a result, he was placed under arrest for violation of drug control laws. In his defense, Oshio claimed that he had taken some pills he received from a friend, not knowing it was an illegal substance.

Police are still investigating the case, searching Oshio's home and trying to identify the woman's cause of death and the source of Oshio's drugs.

The good-looking Oshio began acting in 1998, but was absent from the screen after leaving his agency Ken-on in 2005 until he signed with Avex in May 2008. He picked up a role in Spanish director Isabel Coixet's "Map of the Sounds of Tokyo," as well as Hideo Sakaki's "Yuukai Rhapsody" and Eiji Uchida's "Dakara Oretachi wa, Asa wo Matteita." Coixet's film already screened at Cannes in May, but has not yet opened in Japan. The other two movies are scheduled to open in December and February, respectively. However, Oshio's scandal threatens to affect the releases of all three pictures.

Oshio is also the leader of rock band LIV, which debuted in 2002. The group went inactive in 2007, but last August he declared that he was reviving the band with the addition of two members. They were reportedly working on material in preparation for a new album later this year.

Aside from his acting and singing careers, Oshio is also known for marrying actress Akiko Yada (30) in 2006. Yada gave birth to a son in November 2007. But in light of this incident, it is being revealed that Oshio and Yada have been living separately for several months, with little communication between them. Yada, who achieved her own return to acting earlier this year, now seems likely to move for an official divorce. (

Actress-singer Noriko Sakai missing since husband's arrest

Tuesday 04th August, 08:07 PM JST

TOKYO — Actress-singer Noriko Sakai has been missing since Monday, when her husband was arrested for allegedly possessing illegal stimulant drugs, her management office said Tuesday. ‘‘Please do not take on this burden all by yourself and contact us,’’ said Masahisa Aizawa, president of Sun Music Production, in his message to Sakai given out during a press conference, adding that her mother-in-law asked the police to search for the 38-year-old actress earlier in the day.

Her husband Yuichi Takaso, 41, was arrested early Monday after a police officer became suspicious about the self-claimed professional surfer when he was walking alone in Tokyo’s Shibuya district. The officer physically searched Takaso and found a plastic bag containing stimulant drugs in his underwear.

Takaso later told investigators the drugs were for his personal use, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

According to Sun Music, Sakai has not answered calls to her home phone and mobile phone since the arrest, and that the management office last saw her in mid-July.

Sakai and Takaso got married in 1998. (

Takako Matsu returns with new single

Thu, August 20, 2009 (4:34am EDT)

Actress Takako Matsu has set a date for her first single in over two and a half years. "Kimi to Nara" will go on sale October 21, becoming her 22nd single. Her last CD single was "Minna Hitori" in November 2006. In May 2007, she released the digital-only single "Ashita, Haru ga Kitara 97-07," commemorating the 10th anniversary of her debut song. Matsu has been busy with several acting roles on stage and in film, but she made time in her schedule to record "Kimi to Nara" at a studio in Los Angeles. In addition to the title track, the single includes "Kitto Tsutaete" (the current ending theme song of the anime series "Kemono no Souja Erin") and a Japanese version of Hedy West's "500 Miles" with lyrics written by the late Kiyoshiro Imawano. Both "Kimi to Nara" and "Kitto Tsutaete" were written and composed by Matsu herself. (

Tue, December 29, 2009 (2:02am EST)

Singer Crystal Kay (23) has been given her first regular role in a television drama series. She will appear in NTV's "Hidarime Tantei EYE," which is scheduled to premiere on January 23. "Hidarime Tantei EYE" started out as a one-episode special in October, but the network decided to develop it into a complete series for this winter. The show stars 16-year-old Hey! Say! JUMP member Ryosuke Yamada as a junior high student who begins seeing visions after a corneal transplant, leading him to fight against a criminal organization. Crystal Kay will play the part of Akira Kokusho, a genius hacker living in confinement. She already made her acting debut in Naoto Takenaka's movie "Yamagata Scream" earlier this year, but this will be her first time acting on the small screen. (

This thread has been quiet for a while. I did not find a "Globe" thread, but they have been inactive for a while.
This is about singer KEIKO (Keiko Komura), 39, being released from the hospital on December 9- (she had been rushed to the hospital for surgery back on October 24, after suffering subarachnoid hemorrhage- which is one type of stroke, and very serious. Speech and / or motor abilities are nearly always affected, and rehabilitation exercises are necessary for those who survive this often fatal form of stroke )
Attached here is  a link to a TokyoHive story, and below is a press conference that her husband, music producter Tetsuya Komura, 53, just held.
In the story, Komura is quoted as saying:....[ “When I heard it was a subarachnoid hemorrhage, I felt like crying. I was shocked.” However, he was soon encouraged by KEIKO’s recovery and positive spirit. “When she was in the ICU, she was singing songs. As a singer, she cares about whether she can sing or not. She sang globe’s “FACE” at first. She remember lyrics as well.”]...... (

小室哲哉、KEIKOの退院を報告 {with thanks to JIJIPRESS }

Wishing the best for Keiko, a truly talented and unique singer- a favourite performer of mine and many fans. (
