My parents just told me about this.  I may have to look around for some more information about the new series.  So this is the 9th Doctor, huh?  It's been a while since I've seen any Doctor Who shows, but I remember there was a movie after the TV series.  Is this Doctor following from the movie one, or from the last TV one?  I think the movie Doctor was the 8th, but I forget.  It seems kind of a shame to "waste" one incarnation on only one movie though.  Well, I'm looking forward to seeing the new episodes.  It should be interesting (if only it didn't conflict with WWE Smackdown).

I'm not sure, but I dont think its gonna follow that movie. They'd have to add that asian kid if they did. But, i'm looking forward to this. And I feel your Smackdown delima! Thank goodness for video tape.
BTW nice to see you here. I hadn't known you fallen to the dark side...lol Welcome, mate!

I don't really remember the movie that well.  I suppose they could figure out a way to to make this series follow the movie.  I don't know if they really intended for the movie to be part of the standard continuity though.  The premiere episode is often twice as long as the normal show though, so it's possible that the regular air time will be 10pm, after Smackdown finishes.  I guess we'll find out soon enough.  If it does continue to overlap, I'll tape it.

I don't know about this being "the dark side", but it seemed worth checking out.  Since some sections are restricted though, I think I'll need to get access to them before I can decide what I think about the board as a whole.

Maybe not the "dark side", but compared to the OTHER Japanese Music forum (who shall remain nameless), we're definitely more relaxed/easygoing. For example, here you can SWEAR!!  :yay:

I just checked out the first two eps. The first ep was pretty lame plot wise, even by DW standards, but the chracter development was really nice. I really like this version of the Doctor; very funny, but can be very serious too. And like the other Dr.s, he aint no pretty boy. The acter fits in to this role quite well. As for his assistant, Rose: OMG what a hottie. I'm so in love. Billi Piper, is cute, funny, smart and stacked! There's a good chemistry here I hope it continues throught the series.
The second ep was much better. The plot was so typical DW, I almost feel it was ripped from an earlier show. Its very traditional.
I like this series and I hope it continues for a while. If your a fan of the old series I think you'll enjoy this version, just struggle through the first episode (which is easy if you focus on Rose   )
New Episiodes next Fri...can't wait!!  :w00t:

Yeah, I caught the episodes late last night when they replayed them.  The first episode was a little hard to get through, but as a newspaper article my parents sent me said, that's almost unavoidable when they're trying to introduce so many new characters.  The second one was better though, because it seemed to be a more typical story show.  I'm curious to see how things are going to play out, especially given this Doctor's circumstances.  I don't want to spoil things for others who may not have seen it, but if you did see the show, hopefully you can guess what I'm talking about here.

I've been watching the second season of the new Doctor Who on a regular basis  (every Saturday after it's aired in Britain), and enjoying it immensely.  I was surprised that there was no active Doctor Who thread here.

I know Sexy Beam has to be up to date with the second season episodes, but for Jab, Dronak, and whoever else, have you caught up with Season One on Sci-Fi yet?

A nice self-contained episode to follow an alright-to-mediocre two-parter.  There were same lame bits, and I'm still missing good Rose-Doctor quips, but it was a fun watch nonetheless.

This one was buried 5 pages deep.

Dr. Who's 2 hour season finale on Friday, and it looks like changes gonna happen.
Daleks and Cybermen in this one, also.

I like to have my own Dalek in my house (in Dalek voice)"Exterminate!" I wouldn't mind for a Cyberman as well.

I like the Ninth and Tenth Doctors so far. Just wish they kept Billie Piper, it would be cool. Here's a site I go to frequently for Doctor Who, if nobody has put it here yet.

We should make a poll question here: Who's your favorite Doctor, young or old?

In reality though, even though I like them all to some extent, Hartnell pwns the others all to hell. :D

Went to the SciFi channel site and found out that it'll be in June when the 3rd season of Dr, Who will start up.

Damn, still got plenty of time to wait before the new season starts.

Not bad, that's a lot better than the 1yr+ wait we had for season 1 to make it over here.  Season 2 was better, it finished in June last year and then came to SciFi in either September or October.  From what you've said, they'll probably have just finished showing them in the UK when they debut over here.

Fantastic! :D

Just finished watching the first part of the 2 part season 4 finale.
Everyone's thrown in the mix for this one, seeing as its also Russell T. Davis' finale as well, since he's leaving the Dr. Who series, which is a real shame, but at least he's going out with a BANG!!

Gotta wait til next Saturday for the final part, meaning wait til it shows up for download, which isn't really a long wait, thankfully.

Hmm, gotta wonder who's gonna be the Doctor now, since he was just beginning to regenerate at the end of the ep.

The week can't go by quick enough.

I haven't followed Dr Who much. Only scraped 4th-7th doctor a little when I was a kid, so my impression of Dr Who is mainly of the 4th Doctor.
But Tennant really pulled me in to watch it these few years. His Doctor has really left an impression on how I picture Dr Who should be.

Preview at the end of ep01 = mind blown~~ :on lol:

Doctor Who regeneration was 'modelled on LSD trips'

Doctor Who's regenerations were modelled on bad LSD trips, internal BBC memos have revealed.

The Doctor's transformations were meant to convey the "hell and dank horror" of the hallucinogenic drug, according to papers published on the BBC Archive.

Regenerations were introduced in 1966 to allow writers to replace the lead actor. New Doctor Matt Smith is the 11th Time Lord.

The papers also reveal the difficulties of bedding in a new Doctor.

In an internal memo dating from 1966, producers outlined how the original Doctor, William Hartnell, would be transformed for his successor Patrick Troughton. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8616413.stm)

Okay wow, so what are your thoughts on this new series so far? I personally think that the Moffat team has not only outdone themselves, but also every effort R.T Davies ever put into the show xD All the Moffat episodes makes Davies' stuff look silly.

The last two-parter has perhaps been the weakest part of the new series so far, but the twist and cliffhanger at the end made it all worth it @_@ omfg. Also loving the look of the next episode. Vincent van Gogh! Omg, yes! :D I love his paintings! Will be fun to see how they'll portray him in the show *art geek* XD

So, the Vincent van Gogh episode ;_;! Most brilliant thing ever, oh my god. I guess it does help that I love impressionism and van Gogh's art. I was at the Musee d'Orsay last summer, and the impressionism section just blew me away. I could have spent days there

It really annoyed me that they kept pronouncing Gogh as "Goth", but that's a minor detail, really. Haha. The proper Dutch sounds are kind of unpleasant anyway

I liked that we got to befriend a new (?) gadget~ and there were so many geeky references to Gogh's art. HIS BEDROOM fffff. That's my favourite painting ever, I love the story behind it, and the composition is really wonderful

I just caught up with yesterdays episode. IT WAS BRILLIANT, BUT WTF @_@ Hoooow are they going to get out of that situation?

.... trying to keep my comments here spoiler-free xD

I absolutely adore Steven Moffat's storytelling. The way he's made this season finale big and epic, yet secretive and something the audience gets to share with the Doctor and his companion (without having hordes of humans running around in the background going "OH MY GOD, THERE ARE SPACE SHIPS IN THE SKY, AND WHAT ARE THESE THINGS CALLED YOU SAY... DALEKS? OH MY, AREN'T WE ALL LUCKY YOU CAME TO TOWN, DOCTOR?") is amazing and beautiful. I love how they've managed to keep the fairytale theme throughout this series. And of course, focusing on mystery and adventure rather than PERSONAL DRAMA (although there is an added touch of that as well), good, good stuff!. Really looking forward to the big finale next Saturday! @_@!! Can't believe this series is almost ending already @_@;! That went by fast.

Does feel fast. This is the first time I followed a season of Doctor Who so closely. And a great season its been.

Story brainstorming for the finale must've been like "So what is the utter worst situation the Doctor can get himself into? Alright, let's do just that!"

Doctor Who Matt Smith 80s Retro Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vBdYB6HK8U#)

And crazy gossip papers are throwing out rumours about how Moffat has completely lost his one and only copy of the new Christmas Special script!

I highly doubt that it's true.

Quote from: Daily Star Celeb News
Filming for the DOCTOR WHO Christmas (10) special has been thrown into jeopardy after the top-secret script reportedly went missing.

Executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat is facing a race against time to create a new draft before filming commences next month (Jul10), according to Daily Star Sunday.
The writer reveals, "It's a flashback Christmas special."
Matt Smith currently stars at the Time Lord in the popular sci-fi show.

Well I've been trying to avoid Doctor Who cuz I don't want another show to watch (...), but yesterday someone was talking about the Weeping Angel mythology in the LJ poupeegirl community of all places (...) so I ended up watching episodes Blink, Time of Angels and the one after it. And I enjoyed all a lot  So frawk. I doubt I'll watch every episode but yeah, keeping my eyes open for more :P

Blink is perhaps the best episode of all the episodes Tennant did. I'd recommend you skip all of his stuff and start watching the last series (the one with Matt Smith as the Doctor). That entire series is written by the guy who wrote Blink, and is just... better than the series that came before XD;

Seriously, the series with Matt Smith made me regret getting all the previous New Who on DVD T_T; Russell T. Davies started out great (he brought the show back, after all), but his style got old really fast, and... I don't know. I tired of it. Moffat's writing jus suits the show better.

I've seen the first episode of the newest series at least five times. Probably more. It's just that magical  Should rewatch the entire thing before the Christmas special ^_____^!

Oh, and here's some sexy pics of Amy Pond.

Oh my god, the Christmas Special was amazing ;____;! I'm still completely in love with Moffat's writing.

It was just the right amount of Christmas-y, just the right amount of Doctor-y, and just the right amount of heartbreakingly sad ;___;

Such a beautiful episode, though. As in it was visually stunning. The colours, and the sets! *o* Will definitely watch this again, and can't wait to own it on blu ray 8]

Aaaaaand we're back. Wow, what a first episode @_@; Evil, evil to have the series start with a two-parter!

This episode really made me feel for River :/ I can't remember, though... did she die in the silent library episodes? adfgjafghjas it hasn't been that long since I re-watched all of the show, I should remember these things xD;

Anyway, great first episode! Loved the monsters. Moffat sure seems to love things that can only be seen "at the corner of your eye"

I haven't been amazed so far this year except for the pirate episode, which everyone but me hates!

He just seems to be out to shock, this year. I burst out laughing when they revealed the River Song twist. River Song just eats time to me.

I hope the 2nd half of the series is better.

Doctor is back again. Great episode with some important bits to the main story.

Kinda funny when it's called something so epic as Let's Kill Hitler when Hitler has such a small part in the episode. :D

Well, the story is slowly edging towards a conclusion.  :(

I am not impressed at all with what Doctor Who has become. It's not grimdark but it is out to shock. Next week looks a bit more interesting but too scary for kids, and it's not the kind of ''accidental'' too scary for kids.

I feel like Moffat has been making this story more and more about Amy and Rory and less about the Doctor himself. Also, why must he constantly try to mess with time? Sometimes I think he's trying too hard to make things complicated.

On the other hand, yesterday's episode made me feel really sad and depressed :(
Title: Re: The Doctor is in! New Doctor Who

 I hated that one. It was just so melodramatic. It's just Amy when she's older, for goodness sake.

The one with the cupboard actually wasn't so bad,it was a bit more exciting than the last time they did it.

Still remember Rory getting stuck in the Tardis corridor?
Kinda funny Amy gets in the same situation, but gets movies and gardens and stuff. Yet she still b@tches about it.
It wasn't real. But Rory was stuck in a corridor. dying of old age. in a corridor. Amy should've been happy. XD

It's such a shame the Sarah Jane Adventures is ending because that was really good. They're all good,sci-fi-ish actors and now they've gotta find something else to do.

Karen Gillan really is just completely gorgeous.

Too bad she and Rory aren't going to be the companions for the next season. I'll miss them! Although, I'm sort of glad that they're moving on from them. The Doctor's been too obsessed with them. Almost to the point where he's willing to sacrifice everything else in the universe just to keep them happy.

I agree on the Sarah Jane! Elisabeth Sladen's death was really a huge loss for the sci-fi community.

Kind of like Luke in the last couple of years of the Sarah Jane Adventures. It was a fantastic, brilliant programme. It was more like old Doctor Who. That last episode was just gold.  It was seriously hilarious in parts.

Doctor Who has just lost me. I tuned in cause it was James Corden, and enjoyed it,that was a good one,but I literally had no idea what had happened to Amy and Rory.

Well I did enjoy it. There were parts I thought were a bit weird, like the Doctor talking to Clara and them not noticing that snowman in front of them did look a bit weird.

I also thought the snowmen could have been in it more. The ending was good though.
Title: Re: The Doctor is in! New Doctor Who
Post by: Hart on December 30, 2012, 06:11:23 PM
First impressions on The Snowmen: Feels like a Doctor Who version of The Dark Knight Returns, what with The Doctor being "retired" after what happened to Amy and Rory; he stopped wearing a bowtie, becoming secluded up in the clouds, not caring about humanity or the universe. Only to come back when Clara shows up (he didn't realize he put on the bowtie).

I gotta say, that was a brilliant way to introduce the new companion. Great banter between them. Now I'm intrigued about the mystery behind Dalek Oswin Oswald/Victorian Clara Oswin Oswald/Modern Clara Oswald, how she/them are interconnected, and probably the 'Great Intelligence'.

Love the new interior of the TARDIS. Somewhat new yet familiar to past versions. Also love the new opening and a nod to the past with Matt Smith's face showing up. And love the new outfit. Traded the suspenders for a vest. Hope he keeps the reading glasses, probably to remember the Ponds by.  :(

Probably won't happen, like with Jenny (The Doctor's daughter), I want to see a spin-off with Madame Vastra, her wife Jenny (I knew there was something going on between them during A Good Man Goes to War), and Strax, who I thought was mortally wounded last time we saw him, in a steampunk-ish Victorian London. Hope to see them sometime later next year.

Royal Mail reveals Doctor Who stamps
25 December 2012 Last updated at 19:26 ET

Tom Baker, David Tennant and Patrick Troughton are to feature on a special set of Royal Mail stamps in 2013.

The collection marks the 50th anniversary of sci-fi show Doctor Who, with all 11 Doctors getting their own first class stamp.

Four of the show's most notorious villains, including the Daleks and the Cybermen, star on the second class set.

The show first ran from 1963 to 1989. A successful revival returned it to Saturday night schedules in 2005.

Andrew Hammond of the Royal Mail said the commemorative selection "pay tribute to the brilliant actors that have played the Doctor over the years, as well as the adversaries that helped make the show so popular".

The time travelling adventurer is currently played by Matt Smith.

Joining him for the 50th anniversary year is new co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman, who played Clara in the Christmas Day episode, and will be the Doctor's new companion in the 2013 series.

The show's head writer, Steven Moffat, has promised "tremendous surprises" for the golden anniversary, but says he will be keeping them under wraps.

"They wouldn't be surprises if I accidentally said them now, would they?" he said at a preview screening of the Christmas episode.

"But I promise you, we're going to take over television," he added.

The writer has even kept the secrets safe from his leading man.

"We're as much in the dark as the majority of other people," Smith told BBC Radio 1. "I imagine I'll get to read something in January, February time."

However, the actor promised: "We'll make it the biggest and the best year, hopefully in the show's history."

The Royal Mail stamps will be available in March.

The Xmas special was AWESOME  :w00t: I watched it with sister and I think it got her hooked on Dr Who even more  And now we're both looking forward to the series to continue!
I was a bit sad when I realized Amy won't be in the show anymore, but after seeing Clara.. I'm excited to see more of her  :w00t:

I should start watching the series of 10th doctor.. actually thinking of getting the DVD boxes (instead of downloading full seasons) * w*

You can get either the dvd or bluray online (http://www.bbcamericashop.com/dvd/doctor-who-series-7-part-1-16855.html). Or if you have BBC America, you might be able to catch an episode or two of season 7. Probably before new episodes air on March 30th.

I've heard about it. Within the story there's also the Fourth Doctor teaming up with Kirk and his crew battling the classic versions of the Cybermen.

Just watched it on iPlayer because my recording packed up. OMG. That was the best Doctor Who I have seen in years. It had Asians as good characters, it had bike riding like Jon Pertwee, the riding up the building scene made me think 'Yep, that's a tokusatsu', it was just amazing. Next week looks good. Finally it's getting interesting again. I knew this fresh start would do it good.

Imagine if there was an evil Wi-Fi thing! I'd just think 'Oh cool, a foreign language!'

Series 7 part 1 DONE!!  :D

'The Angels Take Manhattan' ep was a real good ep... and a very sad one at the end, as well.

Gets me all caught up now, so I'll prolly have to wait for the 2nd part to come out on dvd to see 'em, unless the eps show up on youtube.  ;)

Maybe I'll make one of those while watching the episode tonight.

I absolutely LOVED The Bells of Saint John. As expected, I just love Clara more than ever (she's just so cute I just can't) It reminded me of when Tennant was the Doctor, which was a bit refreshing. Dramatic, but with a lot of humor and fun! I also really liked the concept of evil wifi, hehe.

This could be the height of nerd-cool. At the very least, it could be a low-cost way of jazzing up a kitchen and/or being able to keep an older fridge that still functions well but that might look a little beat-up.  :thumbup

Quote
Customized refrigerator kit to turn your fridge into a very special Police Box. The skin is easy to apply to the doors, with a little care taken to cut out around the handles. The top section is a separate structure that includes the sign, the peak roof and a working beacon.

The skin integrates best with a French Door refrigerator, because of the way the fridge doors better match the Police Box. A single door, with or without a separate freezer, also looks cool; it just doesn't open in the manner of a Police Box.

There is the option of including a stiffened "little phone door" that can be adjusted to make it fit over the top of your ice maker, so the little door swings open to access the ice maker, but then closes the rest of the time.

There is also an audio module available that fits inside the fridge that can be programmed to play your favorite Police Box sounds whenever the doors open. I have mine set to play several sounds from one of my favorite TV shows, Doctor Who.
Order it here - http://glasssculpture.org/artglass/holiday/police-box.html (http://glasssculpture.org/artglass/holiday/police-box.html)

Breaking news: Matt Smith Leaving Doctor Who Next Year (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/Matt-Smith-to-leave-Doctor-Who)

Quote
Matt Smith says: "Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It's been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he's a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!

It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys. Matt."

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says : "Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he'd turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently. And even better than that, given the pressures of this extraordinary show, he is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him - sometimes literally - his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor.

But great actors always know when it's time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt - bow ties were never cooler.

Of course, this isn't the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who's about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again! After 50 years, that's still so exciting!"

 :(

I think I'll stop getting Doctor Who Magazine. You have these episodes that I like, and then in the letters page you have people saying why they didn't like it, and then the review one or two issues later says the exact same thing! What's the bloody point then?!  :banghead:  It's bad enough reading things on the internet I don't agree with without actually spending good money to read them! Most magazines will try and say that the views of the people don't match the views of the magazine, but they don't even bother with that now. I think magazines in general don't hold the excitement that they used to for me.

Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi revealed as 12th Doctor
4 August 2013 | Last updated at 20:47

Actor Peter Capaldi has been announced as the new star of BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who.

The 55-year-old Glasgow-born star will be the 12th actor to play the Doctor, replacing outgoing lead Matt Smith.

Capaldi is best known for his role as foul-mouthed spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker in the BBC series The Thick of It.

"It's so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it's been so fantastic," he said after the news was revealed on a live BBC One show.

The actor had been the bookmakers' favourite to take on the role, with betting on him becoming the next Doctor suspended on Friday.

It is not the first time Capaldi has appeared on the show - he played Roman merchant Caecilius in 2008 Doctor Who adventure The Fires of Pompeii.

At 55, he is the same age as William Hartnell when he was cast in the role as the first Doctor in 1963.

"Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can't wait to get started," he said.

Secret audition

Steven Moffat, the show's lead writer and executive producer, said casting Capaldi as the Doctor was an "incendiary combination".

"One of the most talented actors of his generation is about to play the best part on television."

Moffat said Capaldi had been cast after a secret audition at his house.

"We made a home video of [Capaldi] being the doctor and I showed it around and everyone said 'yes, that's the Doctor'.

Moffat added the actor had "briefly flicked through my mind" the last time he was casting the role, but he did not think he was right for the part, however "now that moment has arrived".

Capaldi said he downloaded old Doctor Who scripts from the internet and practiced the lines in front of a mirror to prepare for the audition.

He revealed he was filming a BBC adaptation of The Three Musketeers in Prague when he found out he got the part.

"I had my phone on silent so I missed the call," he said. "It was my agent and I rang her up and she said 'hello Doctor' - I haven't stopped laughing since."

'Incredible incarnation'

Outgoing Doctor Matt Smith welcomed Capaldi's casting, who pre-recorded a message for the new Time Lord.

"I wish my successor all the best and say good luck and good on you for getting it, because I know he's both a huge fan of the show and a really nice guy," he said.

"The casting made me ready excited and as a fan I think it's a canny choice. If I had to pick someone, I'd pick him because I think he's great. I'm excited because I know what's coming and he's going to have a blast."

Jenna Coleman, who stars as current Doctor Who companion Clara, said: "I'm so excited Peter Capaldi is the man taking on the challenge of becoming the 12th Doctor.

"With Steven's writing and his talent I know we'll be making an amazing show with an incredible incarnation of number 12. I can't wait to start this new adventure."

Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC Drama Commissioning said Capaldi was "an extraordinarily talented actor who can seemingly turn his hand to anything".

"We can't wait to premiere his unique take on the Doctor on Christmas Day and we are sure he's going to become one of the all-time classic Doctors."

Following the announcement, The Thick of It writer Armando Ianucci tweeted: "There can't be a funnier, wiser, more exciting Time Lord than Peter Capaldi. The universe is in great hands."

Capaldi will film his first scenes on the series this autumn.

The Pitch: London, 1963, and a gang of misfits – a Canadian, a young Indian, and a young woman – go into a buttoned-up BBC to develop a children’s show about history that nobody has any faith in. Their star is a cantankerous old so-and-so named William Hartnell who thinks he’s above it. Surely their programme, Doctor Who has no chance of succeeding… does it?
The Talent: David Bradley, the greatest Doctor we never had, gets his chance, portraying Hartnell. Professional Who fan Mark Gatiss wrote the script.
The Buzz: This 90-minute docu-drama about the origins of Doctor Who is the other cornerstone of November’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Fandom is already foaming at the mouth, but the untold story behind this British institution should be enough to excite the casual viewer as well.
The Broadcast: BBC Two, November.

New 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary Special Images Released
The Huffington Post  |  By Christopher Rudolph | Posted: 10/16/2013 9:58 am EDT

A few new images from the highly anticipated "Doctor Who" 50th anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor," have been released by the BBC.

While the photos don't reveal any new plot details, they do show the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors -- David Tennant and Matt Smith -- interacting with John Hurt who is rumored to be playing a previous more sinister incarnation of the Doctor.

Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor's current companion is featured in the released photos, but she will not be the only companion in the upcoming special. Billie Piper, who played the Tenth Doctor's companion, Rose will also be making a return appearance.

Aside from the title of the special and the 75-minute running time, not much is known about "The Day of the Doctor," but BBC America has said it will be "a celebration for long-time fans and an opportunity for those new to the series to jump onboard."

If various generations of the Doctor interacting weren't confusing enough, Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, recently dropped a hint that "Doctor Who" fans have missed something major about the number of the Doctor's regenerations, and how the upcoming regeneration (when Peter Capaldi steps in as the titular character) may not be his last.

"The Day of the Doctor" will air on November 23 at the same time in the UK, US and other countries to avoid spoilers.

Check out the recently released pictures in the slideshow linked below.

^ Same with BBC America. Although they say they're showing some BTS stuff. Probably video clips we've already seen online.

Also need to watch the rebroadcast of An Adventure in Space and Time. Completely forgot about it last night.  :nervous

Actually now that The End of Time is currently playing, I was wondering how that fit in with what happened in The Day of the Doctor. But then I forgot about the Time Lock. *facepalm

Still absorbing all of it, trying to make sense of what Moffat was thinking.

I think there was a Silence in the room when I was buying tickets. No Day of the Doctor in 3D for me.  :(

The Silence struck once again when the screen was frozen for about 15 minutes. Then another 15 for repeated ads. Not even a dozen sonic screwdrivers fixed the problem.  :smhid

Still had a good time listening to the reactions though.

^ It's rich what the English say about Japanese TV isn't it? The truth is I would love to see Jimmy Carr get shot, the truth hurts, but Graham Norton is increasingly irritating.

When the ITV regions went that was when British TV slowly went down the pan. It's only the odd programme that's good.

Catched it. Thanks Matt Smith. Definitely one of the most fun and memorable Doctors ever. :thumbsup

Just like all the other Christmas specials, the storyline flew right past me. I'll have to re-watch it to understand everything that happened.
"New Doctor" Peter Capaldi actually looks like how I think an older David Tennant would be. Maybe it's his 'wide-eyed staring' look. Him and Jenna will probably be doing that look together a lot in the future. :P

spoilers:
1. Funny how they actually did the Doctor number debate in the ending.
2. Also funny they have to end it with the most important question in all space and time. "Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?"

"New Doctor" Peter Capaldi actually looks like how I think an older David Tennant would be. Maybe it's his 'wide-eyed staring' look. Him and Jenna will probably be doing that look together a lot in the future. :P
For some reason, his expression post-regeneration makes me think he's going to be a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more high-strung/nervous incarnation.
:P

spoilers:
1. Funny how they actually did the Doctor number debate in the ending.
Something tells me Moffatt did that intentionally to set up/allow for the series to "break the limits" how how long the series can go (based on the number of the Doctor's regenerations) in the future.

spoilers:
2. Also funny they have to end it with the most important question in all space and time. "Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?"
Well, in "Day of The Doctor", 10 does say that regeneration's a bit of a gamble, right? ^_^

Obviously, the next question is...were the other Time Lords able to grant the Doctor just 1 extra regeneration, or were they able to grant him a new full set of 12? I'm guessing it's probably the latter, as only giving 1 extra one doesn't sound like something Moffatt would do. LOL.

Only God knows how much I'm going to miss Eleven but... I'm really looking forward to what The New Doctor is going to bring to the table. This is going to be super interesting. And since Peter Capaldi is a really great actor it can be nothing BUT interesting!

CROSS-POSTING!!!

On it's own, the genre of Japanese tokusatsu (i.e. shows that have/feature the use of "special effects") is cool. On it's new, the long-standing British TV series Doctor Who is cool. However, putting the two together?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I'm going to say "no" to that one after seeing that.

Doctor Who World Tour Live Streams Coming Soon! - Doctor Who (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FQh7ulGKu4#ws)

According to the site, Peter Capaldi, Jenna Louise Coleman, and Steven Moffat will be in New York.....on the 13th. Still no details yet on where the event is taking place.

Also bought tickets to see the Season 8 premiere on the 25th at a movie theater in the city.  :cow:

Thought about going to the NYC screening + Q&A this Thursday, but by the time I found the link to where I'm supposed to buy tickets, they were unavailable as soon as they were on sale.  :(

At least there will be a livestream.

Anyway, the latest trailer that was released recently:

Looks like they stopped all plans for any livestreams. Only highlights of the Q&As. Probably didn't want to spoil anything about the season premiere. Hope they at least put them up after the episode airs.

Peter Capaldi turned down Doctor Who TV movie audition
Pete Dillon-Trenchard | 11/18/2014 at 8:22AM

Had things gone differently, Peter Capaldi could have played the Doctor instead of Paul McGann all the way back in 1996...

Peter Capaldi has revealed that he turned down the chance to audition for the role of the Doctor back in 1996.

Speaking at a London event celebrating next week’s launch of Doctor Who Series 8 on DVD, Capaldi told interviewer Frank Skinner and an audience of fans:

“I knew I wouldn’t get it. I loved the show so much that I didn’t want to have anything to do with it unless it was going to be me. I didn’t want to have the disappointment and go through all the palaver of jumping through hoops for something that I would never get. Because I knew it was an American pilot, and I knew they would go for somebody who was well-known - which Paul was, and he was fantastic. So I didn’t go along for the audition. I said to my agent ‘Thank you very much, but I don’t want to go along.’”

Upon learning this fact, Skinner quipped “Think of the amount of Big Finish you would’ve done by now!”

It’s unlikely that an eighth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi would have reversed the fortunes of the doomed pilot - Paul McGann’s portrayal of the role is considered to be one of the film’s few saving graces - but it’s fascinating to think that somewhere out there in a parallel universe there’s an episode of Doctor Who in which Peter Capaldi’s Doctor snogs Daphne Ashbrook against a tree and rides a motorcycle through San Francisco. And who knows - perhaps in that same universe Paul McGann is busy launching the DVD for his acclaimed first series as the twelfth Doctor...

Next question is, are they going to establish who the next/new companion will be before the end of this series (Rigsy?), or will they wait until Series 10?

Speaking personally, I've grown to really like Capaldi's sassy, smartass, sarcastic, "don't give a fuck" interpretation/version of the Doctor.  Fans say this all the time, especially with regards to the actors that portray the Doctor, but even with knowing that the role is still his at least until the end of 2017, it feels like it's too soon.

And as for Steven Moffatt, whether one loves or loathes what he's done during his tenure as showrunner, one cannot deny that Doctor Who has enjoyed tremendous mainstream popularity while he's been at the helm. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to the show when he and Capaldi leave the franchise.

Pearl Mackie Is The Doctor's New Companion

We’ve known for a little while that The Doctor’s next companion has been cast. Now, the BBC has officially revealed who it is: Pearl Mackie.

The BBC made the announcement with a short scene from the upcoming season, introducing Mackie as Bill:

Mackie’s acting resume is light, currently performing in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for the National Theatre, and has appeared on a television show called Doctors, and in 2013's Svengali.

And behind the scenes (you can pretty much stop after the 02:25 mark, as it's about a totally different series)...

Season 10 over. It was a pretty mixed bag. I guess I just don't like how they always seem to pull an OP win out of the hat in the last minutes of each episode.
But I really liked the episodes with Missy, as the perfect rival and friend of Capaldi's Doctor.

Need to wait half a year for the Christmas SP again. :panic:
Then the next Doctor will be stepping in.

Unlike with Capaldi, Jodie Foster will apparently be getting a brand new sonic screwdriver right away.
