The whatnow?

Thought I'd do a little rehaul on my old birthday countdown site and it got a little out of hand...

The scale grew from H!P/SNSD chicks to... everyone! In addition to the birthdates we can now store
a whole bunch of information and apply it to different forum-related things. It's no wikipedia, but it's pretty
handy for storing basic info, links, pics and stuff like that.

Anyway, go take a look around the site, click stuff, enjoy.



The people

There are a lot of different people in the database. Basically the people included can be anyone we talk about or oogle at
here in the forums in the various sub-sections and threads.

People are separated first into large umbrella categories, that currently are:

Actor - Actors/actresses of all kinds, TV/Movie/Stage etc
AKB48 - Everyone belonging to the AKB48verse and affiliates
Athlete - Athletes of all sports and kinds
Hello! Project - Current and former H!P and affiliates (Nice Girl Project, Tsunku & co, etc)
Idoling!!! - Idoling and affiliates
J-pop - J-pop artists and rest of the idols
Johnny's - Johnny's Entertainment dudes
K-pop - K-pop artists and idols
Model - Everyone who mainly poses in front of a camera, Gravure, Supermodel, Race Queen, etc
Musician - Musicians, that do not fit in k-pop or j-pop
RLD - Short for Red Light District, in short, porn! Fully clothed, however xD

Then people can have any number of tags that separate them into smaller groups.



The feedback

I'd be interested in all of your comments, feedback and suggestions for improvement. Just make a
post or if you want, toss me a pm. If you find some massive bug better just pm me first. xD

Take note that that site is under constant development. This means you should double-check all the errors you get,
and also that a lot of the information, especially descriptions and tag info, is just not "there yet".

Stay tuned for an update to the picroda within a few days.

- the good old personal counters
- search functions
- some forum integration
- support for "just birthdate, no year known"

:lol: For some reason when I read this thread earlier I really didn't understand what the site was about and I was going to be like "Oh, could help deft with kpop maybe if needed??" but now I see...
(I wouldn't be very helpful/more helpful that current Hipstaz helping out when it comes to birthdays! D: )

Maybe some RSS feeds either for groups or even individual ones (user can select a couple groups) would be a nice addition in the future.

Few changes to the editor:

1. You now have an option to specify a title for a person's forum link for clarification.



2. You can now add links (official sites, twitters, blogs etc) to group tags and categories with the tag editor.

I updated Team K, Team S, Team KII and added the Team Z and Not Yet tags.

If anyone is bored: Team E, SKE48 Kenkuusei, AKB48 kenkyuusei, NMB48 and SDN48 second gen members are still left to complete :nervous  :lol:
I'd really like to see Team E complete, so SKE48 will have it's 48 regular members.

edit: oh and Team Dragon tags could be useful for future reference.

Speaking of bugs. When I checked the Birthday counter today, one of the girls had her age in red.

This is what it looked like on the main page:

I tried to frefresh, but it was still there.

I checked the AKB48 category, to see if it was like that in there, too. And it was:

I didn't really care about this small detail, but I guess Stryfe does.

Edit:
The reason why I chose to include three bars in each picture was to show that the colour on their ages were different.

18's a critical age, if you catch my drift. :P

Regarding the slight sorting peculiarities, it's caused by leap years. I'll add a workaround sort soonish.

Something I noticed:

On the main page under "People by Category" it lists 243 people for AKB48. When you click AKB48 it lists 242!

It says there is one girl with an SDN48 tag but that's not correct. It should be zero. When you click it it links back to the main page.
Does this mean there's an empty/faulty entry somewhere? I wanna get rid of it.  :lol:

edit: thanks! That also explains one of the missing countries. Still two more to locate  :panic:

If there's no birthday set for the person, he/she won't show in the birthday listing, just on the info page.

Edit:
The first picture is from the main page under "Tomorrow's birthdays", and the second picture was when I clicked on her name to see her Bday profile. I was  wondering if it was possible to hide age.

Anyways, birth dates without birth years aren't supported, yet. That's why most of the Afilia Saga chicks don't show in the countdown, etc. Birthdates without birth years should be just added to the comments, for now.

She has the AeLL tag, but AeLL is listed under J-Pop: http://bday.jphip.com/bday.php?categ=J-pop&group_tag=AeLL (http://bday.jphip.com/bday.php?categ=J-pop&group_tag=AeLL)

I guess it's because she had an extensive modeling/gravure career before she joined the J-Pop scene.

Added a simple free text search to the countdown page. You can also specify the search category.

Things checked in the search:
- Names, nicknames, artist names - full or partial, in both western and family-first order
- Groups or group tags
- Birthplace (town, country, etc)
- Birthdate (for now, with the syntax YYYY-MM-DD only, or parts of it... for example 1979 would work)

DB editors can now use a new feature I added for cropping 100x100 px portraits from large images.

So no need for photoshop/gimp/mspaint hassle anymore, just find a good picture, upload it via the editor (new button below the old one), select the area you want as a portrait and click save.

Adding and modifying people is simple with the web interface. For new people, you need a birthdate, a picture and preferably a little bit of information.

Any category or all of them are fine. I can also help or assign people to add if you so wish.

Also did some minor fixes and additions to info pages, regarding ex-members and such.

Maybe some advanced search functionality next... the text search is actually pretty clever already but many features are hidden from view.

This kinda got stuck in "development hell" but thought I'd put the ranker site back up:

It uses the birthday countdown data so as long as that's up to date, this is... you can also combine groups, ex-groups, whatever.

I stopped developing it at some point ages ago and it's a little rough layout-wise in places but should work at least.

Plenty of options for generating different looking lists in the end, as well. Might still work on it at some point to add stuff.
